Chapter 17: Engagement

---Previously:

David held one of Alex's paw for a while, then got on one knee "Alex"

Alex froze at this action, not speaking or talking, just wide-eyed.

David gently rubbed the paw of Alex he held "You're the most precious thing in my life love, you know that right?" he paused "Even before I got to know you better, I knew you were someone special in my life"

Alex remained frozen; also Sam, Jeff, Nikki and Daren were secretly watching. They had come to the spot to find the two, but had hidden and just watched after David got on his knee.

David went on "I know we've only been together for 6 months and that's kind of short but" he kissed the paw "I want to make sure I stay with you for much, much longer than that."

Alex had started to tear again, keeping still and blushing like mad.

David reached into his pocket and took out a small box, which he opened, revealing a diamond wedding ring "Alex...will you marry me?" Starting earnest into Alex's eyes.

For David, this was a moment that should be captured in time. Though he was a bit worried.

For Alex, time had just stopped completely. Marriage was a serious deal. It's -supposed- to bond two furs together forever until they die. The mouse's head was spinning like crazy...was he really ready for marriage?

He only had two choices...Yes...or...No....

There was a long silence, nothing moved, David just stared into Alex's eyes gently while Alex did the same to David.

David was starting to regret his move. Maybe he was going a bit too fast? He did want to marry Alex very dearly...but what if Alex said no? They were only reaching their adult status.

-From a distance

"What are you waiting for you stupid mouse, just say yes already!" Jeff whispered

Nicholas whispered, "Can Alex really handle it?"

Daren frowned a bit "He must be thinking really hard..."

Sam took a better grip on the tree he and the others were hiding behind "Come on Alex, just say it, you can do it, we know you can, just open up your muzzle and say it for pities sake..."

Alex's head was really in a whirl. Should he say no? Why? What would no do? All it would do it break them apart. David believed in him, he loved him and he wouldn't do anything to hurt him...

'Why am I hesitating? So what if were a bit underage...we can make it work...I know we can...just me and him...and all my friends to support us...yea' Alex thought to himself.

Alex looked down slightly, eyeing the ring for a bit. David's nerves were a complete wreck now and was really getting nervous now 'I blew it, I just know I blew it..."

Alex then looked straight into David's eyes and smiled a weak, yet overwhelmed smile. He had no breath to speak. So he did the only thing he could. Slowly...he nodded.

At that very moment, David's face lit up with a bright, broad smile. His heart was jumping at his ribcage and he was trying all he could to keep his coo from melting. The paw he held, he slowly slid the ring onto Alex's ring finger and kissed it once it was on. Alex slowly lifted that paw up and stared at the ring once more, enchanted by its dazzle and its glimmer in the sunlight.

David slowly got off his knee and just stood like that, he could find no words to say, he was too overjoyed and he was still trying as hard as he could not to just totally loose his composure. Right now, he wanted to pounce Alex, give him one big kiss and hold him tightly, but that seemed like it would ruin the mood.

It was Alex who made the first move. He quickly wrapped his arms around David, hugging him tightly, letting his forgotten tears flow down his cheeks freely "Oh David...I can't believe you really asked me...and I'm so glad and happy you did...I love you so much..." He didn't care how dumb he looked or anything else; all that he wanted to do was what he was doing now, hugging the wonderful male bat he called his mate...no, not just his mate anymore...his fiancé.

David was crying more than letting tears escape. He held his mouse so tight to him. No word created would express the pure shear joy that was overwhelming him right now. He looked up 'thank you, whatever is was that brought us together...thank you' praising something, anything and shortly after whispered into Alex's ear "Alex........I love you too...So much...." He found that his muzzle was edging close to Alex's very slowly.

Alex was doing the exact same thing, till eventually their noses bumped against one another. Alex slowly tipped his muzzle upward, resulting in his lips coming into contact with David's. They kissed, one of the most passionate and affectionate kisses they had ever had as a couple. Their paws completely latched onto each other, keeping them together as they should be.

-As the kiss progressed

"Yes! They did it!" Sam said excitedly

"They're getting married!" Jeff sounded just as excited

"Wow, they going through with it..." Daren was smiling broadly, he was happy for Alex

" It must be a nice feeling, knowing your going to marry someone" Nicholas smiled

All four of them ran out from the tree and towards the kissing couple.

Both of them turned their heads as they heard "CONGRADULATIONS!!!" coming from the two canines.

Once in range, Sam shouting, "I can't believe you two are tying the knot!"

Jeff shouted after "Its so romantic!"

"Wow dudes, I hope you two are happy together" Nicholas spoke up and looked at Daren with a hidden smile

Daren grinned, "Yea, but we all know you two will be"

Both mouse and bat looked at the little group, then at each other with a deep blush, Alex's being redder as he spoke "Um... you saw all that?"

Everyone nodded affirmatively "You can't hide anything from us!" Sam and Jeff said together.

David narrowed his eyes "Some things are supposed to be private..."

Jeff smirked "But we'd notice anyway, I mean really, you give him a engagement ring for pities sake, its kind of a obvious thing"

Alex buried his face into David's chest in an attempt to hide his face. David smiled and rubbed the back of the mouse's head "Um...do you guys mind...leaving...I kind of want to be alone with Alex right now"

Nicholas nodded "Yea, we understand, this is a very special time for both of you"

Daren looked at the two canines "Isn't that right Jeff, Sam?"

Both of them whined "But why, we have to celebrate!"

Daren and Nicholas began dragging the two dalmations away, turning and waving at the two "This is why you two should stop being such noisy furs and know when to leave people alone!" Daren sounded somewhat annoyed

Nicholas just kept waving "We'll see you later guys"

Alex watched the two drag the other two away, eventually vanishing into the distance. He then turned his head toward David "Wow..."

David also turned his head back "Hmm?"

Alex took a breath "We're...actually getting married..."

David blushed a bit at that "Yea...we are..." he scratched the back of his head "For a moment there, I though you were going to say no..."

Alex looked down "I was...thinking about it...but...I don't have a reason to say no...marrying you is...one of the most wonderful choices I can make...and I'm proud of it...being you fiancé" he blushed brightly at that last word.

David didn't speak; he just rewrapped his arms around Alex and held him again "Wait till my family gets a load of this..."

Alex blinked "Oh yea, oh boy, what will my parents think?" he had a worried tone to his voice. David rubbed his back supportively "I'm sure they'll be happy for you love..."

Alex sighed "Still...I can't help worry...I mean, getting boyfriend is one thing, getting married in the same year...can be a bit of a shocker"

David frowned a bit "Want me to come with you for a little support?"

Alex thought, then nodded slowly "Yea, that'd be nice..."

They stayed like this for a while, just holding each other. Nothing else was around, besides maybe the wind blowing the leaves on the trees and other faint sounds of nature. Besides that, it was almost silence.

Alex sighed, "We should go"

David nodded in agreement "How bout...we talk home today?"

Alex thought about that "Sure, I really don't feel like flying...and we aren't in a real rush"

David nodded again and they started making their way off campus and headed for Alex's home. The walk was silent since neither of them spoke over it. One paw on each fur gripped the other tightly as they walked side by side over the pavement.

Alex's head was focused between forward and downward, apparently thinking.

David turned his head slightly "Everything alright?"

Alex turned his head too "Yea I'm fine...its just..."

David frowned a bit "You really are worried huh?"

Alex waited a few seconds before nodding gently.

The bat moved the paw that was holding Alex's to his back and rubbed it supportively "Hon, you parents are very understanding, they didn't mind you being gay, you didn't mind you getting a boyfriend, I don't think they mind THAT much if we got married..."

Alex nodded slowly again "I know..."

David moved his paw again so his arm was around Alex's shoulder "You'll see love, everything's going to work out"

Alex felt content with that, David always had a way to calm him down and make him feel better. David gave him hope and warmth inside; there was without a doubt no reason why he should not get married to him.

A smile worked its way onto the black and white mouse's muzzle as they walked the rest of the way. Eventually they reached Alex's home and walked inside, Alex having to unlock the door.

Alex called out "Mom? Dad? You guys home?"... No answer. He sighed, "Guess not..."

David looked around a bit "You hungry?"

Alex nodded "A little"

David smiled kindly "You go wait in your room, I'll get you something while we wait"

Alex looked at him "You don't have to"

David giggled "But I want to"

Alex smiled after that and obeyed "Whatever you say batboy" walking up the stairs and into his room. He flopped down onto the bed and stared at the ceiling in silence. He had a fairly boring ceiling, so Alex closed his eyes and just rested his mind from all thoughts, all worries and all troubles.

He had almost fallen asleep when David opened the door holding a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. He grinned at the half-asleep mouse and set the bowl on a pedestal near Alex's bed.

Alex sat up and sniffed lightly " Hey there...smells nice..."

David grinned and sat himself down next to his mate "If it smells nice, it's bound to taste better"

Alex smiled a bit and leaned against David "After we get married, if we live in a house on our own, you have to teach me how to cook all this stuff, otherwise you'll be doing all the work, and I won't have that"

David put an arm around Alex "Sure love, but I don't mind really..." he smirked "A house of our own...hmmm...we could make all the noise we want"

Alex blinked, then blushed "Oh, you'd like that wouldn't you, you horny bat"

David nodded sheepishly "Oh yes I would, you cute sexy mouse boy" he took the bowl and a fork he brought with, twisting some noodle around the prongs "Open wide"

Alex giggled and opened his muzzle while David started to feed him. It took a bit of a while to do so. Both of them took turns to eat it, so it was eaten 50/50. After it was all gone, Alex rubbed his stomach and smiled "Yummy"

David put the bowl aside again and smiled while he wrapped his arms around his fiancé "Glad you enjoyed it dear" moving his paws to roam over the other's body slowly, making Alex gently murr under the attention.

David leaned in for a deep kiss, worming his tongue into Alex's mouth and lapping at his teeth and gums a bit before rubbing against his tongue. Alex responded by doing the same, tilting his head a bit and making his tongue twist and dance inside the muzzle lock, getting both furs murring happily. Passion, love, affection, these are all words that could describe the kiss and feelings inside both furs. Paws roamed and explored without restrictions over one another's fur covered skin.

Slowly Alex pulled away, staring deeply into David's lovely pink eyes. There was no other place in the world he would have rather been right now. He would give up anything he for this. Only one person made him feel special anymore, and that was David, his sweet bat of happiness.

David simply stared back into Alex's eyes, finding a passionate flame in them, his own having a fairly wonderful sparkle to them. He moved a paw to grip onto Alex's paw, holding it tightly while using his other to keep Alex close to him.

Alex buried his muzzle into David's chest and kept it there, being able to smell David's scent quite clearly, which he gladly sniffed in and sighed happily. David rested his own head above Alex's, kissing it between the ears and whispering, "I love you..."

Alex's heart was beating fast like it had the first time he met David "I love you too..."

They stayed like this, in each other's loving embrace for what seemed like an infinite amount of time, actually being a couple of minutes before both of them heard a door opening and a pair of feet padding into the house and a door closing again.

"Your mom..." whispered David straight into Alex's ear

"How do you-" Alex started but trailed off, answering his own question "Never mind"

David licked the spot were he kissed a few minutes ago "Should we go tell her?"

Alex though about this and shook his head "Its easier if we tell both my parents"

Just then they heard the door open again and another pair of legs padding into the house and again the door closing "Well that didn't take long" said David in a joking tone.

Alex sighed, "Ok...lets go tell them," he breathed in.

David nodded and released the mouse from his grip, helping him off the bed and held his hand as they made their way out the room, down the stair and into the living room where his mother and father were sitting watching, his father reading the newspaper, his mother watching the actual news on TV.

Alex was hiding the paw with his engagement ring on behind his back. He coughed for attention "Um...mom...dad?"

Both parents turned their attention to the couple "Yes?" he father said after folding the front part of the newspaper down so face could come into view. He was wearing a cheery smile. His mother wore an identical smile, but she always smiled that way.

Alex looked down for a bit, then said, "Could you turn off the TV mom? I kind of want to talk to you guys about something"

She nodded and turned off the blaring sound and picture box "Of course dear, what do you want to talk about?"

Alex could not move, so David had to lead him to the couch where his mother was sitting, not sitting down themselves but so both parents eyes were on them properly as Alex spoke on "Um...its more of an announcement than a talk"

His father exchanged looks with his mother and he said, "Go ahead son, whatever it is, we're ready for it"

Alex looked down "Well..." he didn't know why this was so hard, maybe because he didn't want to anger or shock his parents, they were dear to him "The thing is..." he looked sideways toward David, who gave him a positive supportive smile and a little nod. That always did it for Alex "David...proposed to me"

Both parents' eyes went wide open and they looked at each other again. There was a brief pause before his mother spoke up "What do you say?"

"Um..." Alex moved the paw he was hiding out into view of the parents, exposing the ring, which pretty much answered the question.

Both parents looked somewhat surprised but not shocked surprised, just normal surprised. There was another short silence...

Then Alex's mother leapt up from the couch and hugged her son "Oh sweetie, that's wonderful!" sounding excited. Alex blinked at this, but smiled and hugged his mother back.

Alex's father rose from his chair slowly, walked over to David and shook his paw roughly "You my friend, or shall I say, my future son in law, have got backbone. We'd gladly welcome you to the family" David blushed a bit at being called 'son in law' and just shook back.

"I can't believe it, my baby is getting married!" Alex's mother exclaimed and kissed her son's cheek while examining the ring.

"Mom!" Alex blushed now; he didn't like being called baby by his parents.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Trout, but I'm the only one that can call Alex baby" David smirked at Alex.

This statement made both parents laugh "David!" Alex's blush didn't show any sign of fading.

David chuckled and hugged the mouse "See love? I told you there was nothing to worry about" he lifted Alex a bit and spun him around lightly.

Both parents watched their son and his mate in their happy state. It's something to be proud of, your offspring getting married.

A few months or so had passed since the day of Alex and David's engagement, David had asked the direct amount of time, and Alex, at that moment, had said "5 months, 15 days and 22 hours". This really made David laugh for some reason. Ever since then, they had been spending time together, but different time. They went on picnics and walks on the beach and through gardens, that kind of things. Everything or mostly everything was emotion when they were together. Not creepy emotional, but emotional non the less. They kissed and cuddled a lot together and all four of their friends said it looked major cute.THey kept this tied in with their school life and other important things. They also had not had sex since then, which is VERY odd for them. A lot of arrangements had been made on the wedding and all. Thankfully they live in a place that allowed homosexual marriage.

David's dads met Alex's parents for the first time in that month, and both parents seemed to get along with each other. Anthony was especially proud of his brother, but masked that with his normal teasing and brotherly antics.

But back to present day, and in present day two engaged male furs are lying on a bed.

David held his love close to him like he loved to do on top of him. Alex snuggled into David a bit, feeling warm and secure in the bat's arms. David would lick at Alex's nape gently from time to time, keeping Alex murring gently.

"Hon?" Alex looked up at David.

"Hmm?" David looked back.

"How did you get the money to buy me a ring?" Alex had pondered that for a bit.

"I didn't buy it, I made it" David grinned and rubbed Alex's belly.

Alex blinked at that "You made me a ring?"

David nodded with a little smile "Its not that big of a deal, I just transmuted some of my fur into gold and I got the diamond from a diamond mine"

Alex blinked again "You did all that...for me?"

David smiled brilliantly "Of course love, your worth it"

Alex smiled happily "Oh what did I ever do to deserve such a wonderful mate"

David just kept smiling while he tightened his grip around Alex "You made me the luckiest guy on the planet"

Alex blushed a bit "Hmm...love, why haven't we been having sex lately?"

David blinked at that question "Um...I honestly don't know love...it just seems like...we could be doing so much important things"

Alex slowly nodded in agreement "Yea...that sounds right...sex with you is heaven...but it does feel like its not as important as it used to be...what's more important...is that we have each other..."

David smiled "Yea..."

There was a moment of silence, silent caressing on a mouse's body and breathing being the only movement

Alex sighed happily "I can't believe its happening tomorrow"

David grinned, "Yea...can you believe it love? Tomorrow...we'll be married and husbands..."

That word...husbands...it sounded so thrilling to Alex. It excited him, compelled him to move forward in life, filled him with joy and a warm fuzzy feeling inside. He felt the love, the love being shared between him and the bat holding him. Nothing could dampen his mood...

'Tomorrow...I'll be married...' Alex thought...that thought...gave him the most joy he could ever have
