Climate and geography

The planet Valentia is an M class planet similar in temperature and climate to Earth. Valentia's axis has been altered by an asteroid impact combined with its eccentric orbit, temperatures are fairly constant.

Valentia features a single large continent with a variety of climates.

The north of the planted is cold and inhospitable with vast forests and regular snows and frequent mountain ranges.

While the south is temperate and milder, while it's mostly open plains there are area's of concentrated wetlands and desert, There are fewer mountain ranges in the south due to higher weathering, but there are still plenty of tall hills and mini mountains left over from periods of major tectonic activity.

Inhabitants

Valentia is inhabited by four sentient species and a vast number of non-sentient creatures.

The inhospitable Northlands belong to the bears. having evolved short legs and large paws for easy navigation of the snow, while their thick fur protects them from the biting cold. The forests are filled with game for the carnivorous bears to survive on. The influx of opportunistic creatures when the snow melts provides a nice treat and change of eating for the bears. The bears have always been a united people, knowing that to survive in the harsh North teamwork would be required. Their society is similar to communism, Their government is known as the UPR (Ursine People's Republic)

More recently to increase their territory to help cope with their increasing population the Bears have declared war on the Avians and Canines. They are doing this out of need because neither the Canines or Avians will give up their territory or food to aid the bears.

The south lands belong to the canines. Who show a much greater genetic diversity than the Bears due to the more varied terrain, which has lead to a more specialised society. The canine nations only united recently to put an end to the wars between the various species for whatever pointless reasons.

This union of species has lead to a more democratic style of nation. Where each species get's a representative on the national board. the head of the board changes every year and is randomly selected from those on the board. In times of war, military leaders are granted a place on the board which is then kept in constant session.

In reaction the UPR's highly militarised behaviour the Canines joined forces with the Avians for assistance. Forming the DULS (democratic Union of Land and Sky) Expanding the board to include the avians.

The mountains and skies belong to the avians in their secluded mountain eyries. After a UPR assault caught them off guard taking their great cities in the northern mountains they joined forces with the canines, gaining seats on the Canine nation's governing body (the board). The avians are some of the DULS's most determined fighters. Most of them fighting to reclaim their homes or avenged loved ones murdered in their nests.

The ocean is inhabited by the peaceful sharks. Due to their location underwater they haven't developed technologically. Keeping them at a tribal monarchy stage. Until recently they've been left alone, apart from the occasional DULS scientific team or ship wreckage from an accident they've been relatively undisturbed by modern life.

Unfortunately, the sharks have become unintended casualties in the war. The colonies near land have been decimated in places and wiped out in others. The destruction was caused by large scale naval engagements between the two main powers. Toxic chemicals from sunken ships and inaccurate weapons fire along with falling wreckage are the main cause.

Technology

Technology in Valentia can be approximated to be the equivalent of the 90's. Although certain technologies have been developed more so on this planet due to the species differentation.
