The place and time is set in the dragon realms just after Red and his minions were defeated the first time by Spyro. The professor is currently in his lab, working on the machine he had used to shrink and grow Red and the Gnorcs.
"Just have to add this final screw..." the Professor said to himself, putting a very small screw into a spherical device, and twisting it in. "Finished! Now to test it out...I'll bring Spyro over so he can see, too." He happily chimed, quickly scribbling a note and attaching it to a bird-like machine, which flew out of a small hole drilled in the wall.
Meanwhile, our purple hero was at the beach, enjoying some well-deserved R&R. He was laying on one side, with a pair of shades on, Sparx, Spyro's best buddy, laying on his own miniature towel next to Spyro's.
The machine came flapping down, on the brink of cracking and breaking down. The machine smoked heavily and made lots of clanking and squeaking noises, probably from lack of adjustments. "Nice sky, nice sun, nice no-villain-in-particular day... " Sparx sighed, putting his arms behind his head, "This is the perfect holidays!" but then he noticed the descending machine, Spyro seemingly was too busy snoring to notice."What's a bird doing here?" Sparx said to himself, lifting the small sunnies over his eyes, looking up at the flying bird.
It didn't take long for the small machine to start making weird noises such as the heavy creaking that grew louder with each passing second "What is that?" Sparx buzzed up in the air, "Oh! Now this explains everything. No bird would smoke like that, not even one on the grill. Oh, here's the problem" he said, hovering in front of the descending gadget, "I can recognize this design everywhere. It's one of the professor's inventions" he claimed, before he looked at the damaged machine falling down to the sand, "Only his would break down like that!" he chuckled. "Hey, Spyro, I think the professor sent somthin' for ya buddy!"
"What..?" Spyro blinked his eyes open, having been asleep, and turned over, looking at Sparx. "What was that? I was having a nice dream and," "Well forget about Ember for a sec, I'm sure this is important! Looks like the professor sent ya a letter!" Sparx replied, pointing up at the flying machine, which was gradually getting lower to the ground.
"Yep, that was definitely made by him" the purple dragon said, getting up and jumping up into the air, flapping his wings and hovering up some more, before grasping the machine in his teeth, and landing back on his towel. He then grasped the note attached to it, and began to read it out loud.
"Dear Spyro, I've invented a wonderful machine! It's a re-worked version of that old size changing machine that I used on Red. Please come to my volcano laboratory right away! And bring some ice cream! I'm afraid the one I told Flame to deliver already melted! -The Professor"
"Well, looks like the old mole wants us to see his new invention. Let's get our stuff together." Spyro said as he folded the note up again, and attached it to the flying machine, which had completely broken down now, and rolled his towel up, hanging it on his back. The two soon left the beach, and headed towards a teleporting device. But someone had been watching them. A dark blue-scaled dragon approached the flying machine from a hiding spot behind some rocks and trees, and picked up the note, reading it all.
"A booster machine, huh? Sounds interesting..." the figure showed fangs, grinning while grasping the note tightly in his claw, before taking flight towards the volcano as well.
Spyro and Sparx teleported out of the receptor inside the professor's lab, and were both greeted warmly by the scientist mole.
"You know I never get used to matter transportation" Sparx commented, putting a hand next to his mouth mockingly.
"Sparx. You know the professor is doing whatever he can to finish his transportation device and make it nifty like Moneybags, it's not like he'll be finished so soon without the cash,"
"Ahem! Nice to see you again Spyro, Sparx! Glad you could make it!" the Professor said, shaking Spyro's claw excitedly. "I've recently finished my greatest invention yet!" "I heard. And I'm glad!" Spyro said with a smile.
Sparx shook his head a bit and eyed the mole with glasses, "Yeah, your latest greatest invention is now molten scrap heap on the beach."
Spyro stared daggers at Sparx.
"Hey! It's true. I saw it melting with my own eyes!"
"Oh anyways. This is far greater than any bird messenger! Come, its right this way." The genius mole ushered the two through his laboratory, soon coming to a room with a large laser gun-type machine, and beside it in a case was a clear, light-blue orb with lots of wiring and such inside it.
"That's the machine you used? Wow...didn't think it could be made into something that small." Spyro blinked seeing the supposed shrink ray being a small orb.
"Oh that's not the whole machine, Spyro. It's a catalyst for this laser gun." The professor explained, patting the laser machine. "With it, I can control any living organism pituitary gland and various other organs, by stimulating them, to modify their hormone production rates and thus process their growth, tissue healing or cell production at any time! Plus, it also works on vegetables! Think of the ability to boost crops or animals in the farms! This version of the raw is made to be fail proof, and it's much more stable than the old one. But, if it gets damaged or broken open, the results will be disastrous!" "Well, why is it the greatest invention yet? You had already invented it before, now it's just smaller." Spyro looked confusedly at the mole.
"Ah, I see your point. But this one is portable!" The professor walked over to the wall and pushed a button, the machine lifting up, and four wheels being attached to the bottom. "I can take it anywhere, and use it to help the world with any size-related problems!"
"Maybe you could change my size with it?" Sparx asked, grinning as he thought of the possibilities. "I would like to be at least a LITTLE bigger!"
"No, no, I've yet to test it, Sparx. That's what I brought you two here for."
"You're using US to test it?!" Sparx shouted, buzzing loudly "I ain't being no Guinea Pig!" he shouted, freaked. "Spyro. You do it."
The dragon blinked in surprise, alternating looks between Sparx and the Professor. "Huh?"
"Oh good heavens no! I just invited you two over to see!" The professor chuckled to himself. "I'm using another guinea pig to test it." he continued, walking to the other side of the machine and opening a cage, taking the pig out and placing it in front of the laser. "A real guinea pig, Sparx." Just as he was about to turn the machine on, the doorbell rang. "Get that, will you Spyro?" Professor asked, taking the orb out of the protective case.
"Alright..." Spyro and Sparx stared towards the main entrance of the lab, and upon reaching it, pressed a button near it, making the large door open, revealing the same dark blue dragon from before. "Who are you?"
"That doesn't matter; I'm just here to take the machine." The dragon growled, before spreading his wings and flying into the lab.
"HEY! Get back here! Jeez...just when I thought I was done with this stuff." Spyro sighed, spreading his wings out and taking off after the newcomer, who was flying quickly through the lab, searching for the orb, and destroying things as he did.
"Spyro? What's going on out there?" The mole asked, stepping out of the room with the blue orb in his hands.
"The device! Give it to me!" The blue dragon roared, charging at the professor.
"No! It's my invention! You can't have it!" The professor cried out, running into the room and closing the metal door behind him. "You want that orb? You'll have to go through me, first." Spyro growled as he dashed out in front of the door, standing his ground.
"Oh please. Like I'm supposed to be scared of a small purple whelping?" The large dragon roared with laughter, holding his stomach.
Spyro sighed. "Again with the "small" thing...well, you asked for it!" the purple dragon spread his wings once more, and charged for the larger dragon, who quieted down to a chuckle, but readied himself for battle.
Spyro charged through the air, his horns out in front of him, but the larger dragon easily stopped him, grasping both horns.
"Hah, pathetic." He grinned, spinning Spyro around a few times, before letting go, the purple whelping getting sent across the lab and crashing through one of the walls, breaking it completely from the force of the impact.
"Grrhhh..." Spyro growled, slowly getting up, and rubbing his sore head with a claw. Shaking it off, he took flight again, flying towards the dragon, and blasting two fire balls from his mouth.
"Come on...I can't believe Red was defeated by this!" The dragon taunted, bringing his wings out in front of his body and shielding himself, the two fireballs exploding on impact with the wings, but not seeming to have any effect. "Enough! Time to end this." He growled, flying up and grasping Spyro in his claw, and hurling him down at the ground, the purple dragon smacking into the hard metal with a loud thud. He awoke about 45 minutes later, being repeatedly nudged by Sparx. "Come on, Spyro!! Wake up already!"
"Sparx...? What happened?" the dragon asked, weakly turning his head towards the dragonfly.
"Oh nothing" Sparx buzzed, shrugging, "You just received a beating and that guy has already broken into the Professor's safe area. But I think he'll be alright if we stay nappy-happy here."
"Oh no. Damn! I gotta catch up with him!" Spyro weakly stood up, but he was slowly regaining his strength. He walked into the room where the laser was, and found it completely wrecked, but he saw the case laying on the floor in the middle of the room. "It's...still here?" he said to himself after opening it, seeing the orb inside it, in perfect condition.
"So THAT'S the machine!" The dragon said out loud, seeing Spyro opening the case through the broken wall. "Give me that device!" He roared, running towards Spyro, his arms outstretched towards the case.
Unable to react fast enough, the dragon was struck hard, along with the case, which sent the orb rolling toward the edge of the destroyed floor, coming to a rest on the edge of lab's outer space, just where one of the volcano's cave was. "Why do scientists always pick the worst places to build their laboratories...?" Spyro groaned, getting back up, and trying his best to run for the orb. "Oh, no you don't!" The other dragon growled, dash-flying towards it, the racket his wings were making shook everything up and made the orb finally fall over the edge.
"Spyro!" the Professor came rushing from the confined place he was set in by the dark blue dragon, "Are you oka- OH NO!" he panicked as he looked at the balancing orb on the edge, "You mustn't let it fall! The Berserker Energy Orb is a very delicate container of fully condensed energy!"
"English?" both dragons stopped briefly, looking back at the mole.
"If it breaks from a fall it could create an explosion that will wipe out kilometers of land!"
"Oh great, this was just what I had planned for the end of my holidays: A thermal explosion with the capabilities to destroy the half of a country." Sparx grumbled, following Spyro like always on his side.
"Explosion? Kilometers!? What am I, Bruce Willis?!" Spyro cried as the orb rolled off the side, the purple whelping jumping off after it, spreading his wings.
"That's mine!!!" The blue dragon roared, flying down after Spyro. "Got to...get that...orb!" Spyro grunted, trying to grab at it, but not having his body totally developed as a pre-teen dragon, his short arms didn't reach the precious object. "This is one of the times that one of those grabbers would be nice..." He saw the other dragon coming up behind him, and stuck his foot out, kicking off the dragon's muzzle, and diving down at the orb, biting his fangs around it and securing it in his mouth.
"Ggrhh...You're going to give me that machine, little runt!" The dragon roared, swiping at Spyro, and sending him down even faster.
He fell and fell, until he hit the ground hard, the orb slipping from his fangs and sliding halfway down his throat, the dragon gagging and grasping at his neck, trying to get it out, but it just slid down further, and soon disappeared into his stomach.
"Damnit..." the other dragon cursed, his eyes narrowing. He then turned back around, and flew back out of the laboratory.
Spyro was still trying to cough it back up, but to no avail. He coughed harder, having a strong choking feeling. "I just hope I don't get indigestion from this." "Spyrooo!!" A voice called from above, revealing itself to be the professor. "Are you alright?"
"Despite having ingested a volatile machine with the power of an atomic bomb, yeah, I am." Spyro called back, lifting his wings and slowly flying back up to the lab.
"You what?!" The professor shouted dumbfounded by what Spyro had said. "You swallowed the Berserk Energy Orb??"
"What? Wasn't it edible?" Sparx added sarcastically.
"Yeah, I had it secured in my mouth, but I accidentally swallowed it when I hit the ground. This isn't going to do anything to me, is it?" Spyro explained and asked, landing on the edge of the lab floor.
"I don't know. I'll just run a few tests on you, just to make sure." The mole sighed, shaking his head. "Right this way, Spyro."
He led the dragon to his partly-destroyed medical wing, where most of the machines were still intact. He walked Spyro over to one of the machines, and measured his heart rate and pulse, which were both normal, then put him behind an X-ray screen.
"Ah, yes...it seems you did swallow it after all." The professor sighed, looking at the X-ray screen, and seeing the device at Spyro's stomach. "It seems to be having no adverse effects, though, so you can just stay here while I search for something to remove it from you." He said before turning and starting towards a large closet full of inventions. "Is this going to hurt? I don't know if using a machine to take it out is the best idea. I'm not super dragon, you know." Spyro said, looking over at the mole who was still rummaging through the closet.
"Nonsense, Spyro! It won't hurt a bit. Agh...I can't find the machine. Well, I'll call you back her later then, Spyro. But be warned, now that you have that inside you, a lot of the bad guys are going to be after you." The professor warned, turning towards Spyro again, "If that dragon wanted my invention, apparently there's somebody who knows about you, and the Orb too. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent in more hunters to try to... uhm... 'Retrieve' the orb..."
"Yeah, yeah, alright..." Suddenly Spyro remembered his date he had set up with Ember. "Augh! My date!" He hopped off the X-ray machine, and took off towards the main entrance of the lab.
"Spyro! Don't you want that thing taken out of you??" Sparx asked, flying quickly after his dragon friend.
"You heard the professor; it's not doing anything to me so it can wait." Spyro replied, exiting the lab and taking flight toward Star Hill, where he had told Ember to meet him. "Kids and their hormones" Sparx sighed, shaking his head as he followed Spyro in his flight.
The mole sighed, watching as the dragon dashed out of the lab, and noticing the energy readers on one of the machines going down as the dragon got further away.
