After some stories in the works I decided to write a practical guide than what some stories have. Adult for some sections and the index is not that important so I skipped it. This is my idea of a decent guide and the things a new trainer should know and pan-dimensional bags do not exist. This story is not perfect and I have to cancel finishing it but it is mostly done.

Beginners' pokémon guide

In the world of pokémon there are many types. This world is dangerous and pokémon you have are needed to protect you. Firearms are illegal in some towns pokémon are not. This is your basic guide. There are four books to complete. They are the breeding guide and various league regulations, Real monsters of the pokémon world.

Chapter one Catching pokémon and raising them Chapter two Poké ball types Chapter three Unintended dangers Chapter four What to look for in pokémon Chapter five Breeding and reproduction control, care and necessities Chapter six Legal requirements Chapter seven Things to consider to pack Chapter eight Legends and rumors Chapter nine Required basic skills Index

Chapter one: Catching and raising your pokémon Pokémon come in all shapes and sizes. They each have different abilities some are based on gender or type. Sometimes it is not a good idea to try to catch pokémon to train. Live born pokémon are rare in many regions. This is due to older types of poké balls, this will be explained in later chapters. Live born tend to be hybrids that are easily identifiable. It is harder if the parents are the same species. They tend to be shiny or do better in shows and live longer. They have fewer offspring that are generally smaller that the pokédex data has. If they are a pack species, you must be carful. Live born parents are very protective of their young and one is usually on watch. It you wish to catch the young, you need to isolate them and catch them. If they are a pack species, they have more than one set of eyes on you at all times. If you think you are being watched, assume you are and avoid the capture through battle. The better method is to let the parent give you the young. If the young are really sick, take it to the pokémon center and then, capture it after it is treated. If you cannot convince them, run and try for another day. If you catch the young, they may kill you and release the party for food or new mates to increase the pack size. Hatched pokémon are less defensive over their young. They tend to run and have more offspring that are weaker and easier to capture. Pack mentality is less important due to the life span and numbers of young will overwhelm the food supply if they did not flee. Battling is the way to get the pokémon stronger. Some may die and medical supplies reduce that. When they reach a certain level, they evolve to their evolution. They are bigger and stronger than their previous forms. Injuries do recover during evolution. Lost eyes and limbs can grow back, this my scare them. If the wound they are full healed, they may not need time to recover. The stronger they are the less they are likely to die. Trust can be earned or forced on. The poké ball does give some control but the food gives them some trust and you control the food. Some blends contain chemicals that are addicting, but others try for taste. Providing a regular supply of food is a great way to keep them. Most will obey you if you provide adequate food and treats they like. They may not become full dependant on you and that is based on the personality of the pokémon. If they are stubborn, control is harder. The more docile the pokémon, the easier it is to train. Live born are hard to train and force is not recommenced. They are more wild than hatched pokémon of the same species. They like to fight back and will run if you force them too much. They have heightened senses to the opposite gender. Instincts are heightened and tend to run for a mate. You may lose your powerhouse over a mate. If this is the case, leave an empty space and capture the pokémon they are infatuated with. Pregnant females are terrifying to most males. She will be moody for the first few weeks of pregnancy. This will be placed in chapter three and five. The males will skip eating and give it to the female mate. Provide adequate food and none will skip eating. To conclude, catching is not as simple as some believe. It is an art and only experience is your tool. Live born maybe desirable but hatched are safer. Training makes them stronger and trusting you more if they win battles.

Chapter two poké balls and their types. Poké balls are tools like collars and tags. In older times other methods were used that will be discussed in other chapters. They work as a backup tactic. Some models are illegal to use in some regions for the main reason of live born females. Older poké balls could capture all pokémon however, live born females that gave birth to live young would lose the offspring early in pregnancy. They tended to run away or ignore orders just to die. This behavior was eliminated with the mark two and multi code balls. Mark two scan the females and if they do have live pups, the traits that are detected. The poké ball will not function. Multi-code poké balls can hold up to ten genetic codes at once. They work on all pokémon. The different strengths are used and speciality models are used. Most new trainers cannot afford these models and are given mark two's or multi code balls. In some regions they are the only models available. Other models are for the various pokémon types and locations. Some reserves allow capture with special poké balls for a fee. These areas allow the rest of the reserve to stay funded. Mark one poké balls will capture any pokémon however, if the female has the traits of giving live birth they will lose their offspring. Depending on the region, they do not allow these models. If a female is captured and was pregnant, they will not fight. They just take hits until they die or they run. In some cases they kill themselves. The theory is, they are manically depressed and want to die. Mark two poké balls can scan the pokémon and will not operate with females with the live birth trait, capture with a different ball or method. Multi code poké balls can keep up to ten genetic codes in the storage. If the female is in labor, the ball opens automatically. This is a function that is essential for reproduction. After they are born, the mother can only enter the poké ball. Keep a lot of mark two's models and multi code models in stock. Test with a mark two model and see if the female offspring will have live young or eggs. Some will some will not. This is a recessive trait and by luck you can get females with that trait. Specialty poké balls come in all types and in various models. Some models are rarer than others. Reserve balls only work in capture sections of parks, the reserves are large and only allow capture in a small area. This area funds the rest of the park and prevents over catching of anyone species. There are many different models and types of poké balls. Some are legal and some are not in many regions. It depends on the diversity of the regions' pokémon. A poké ball is a tool and older method's still work but, relying on one method is not a good idea. You need a backup like collars and tags. Have extra for when you need then for unexpected events.

Chapter three unintended dangers Some dangers are unexpected and others will need some preparation. Not everything is safe and harmless. The local pokémon and the environment are a battle on their own. The road ahead is an adventure. Traveling on marked paths is safer but, less powerful pokémon can be found with few strong one's available. Unmarked paths can get through private property and are more dangerous. Look for signs when traveling on the paths and read them. Some signs say, "Trespasser will be shot on site." High cliffs, fallen trees and the chance you start a forest fire is just a start. There are more powerful pokémon in greater numbers. Only experienced trainers should travel on these paths. Wild pokémon in that area are less aware of humans as companions. They will kill you for food or you invaded their territory and they feel you are a threat. Keep a female in heat out to prevent most dangers from males, if you have one. The males are more interested in your female than you unless you are a girl which male pokémon have the same interest in you. Give her a contraceptive food blend a week before heat and during to prevent eggs or pregnancy. Her body wants to reproduce and her mind tends to be overwhelmed by it. The females will try to mate with the trainers just to solve this urge. Allow her to mate with other pokémon and they tend to allow you in their territory after all the males are satisfied in that group. Some males just fallow you as your legal party is full. You can also add one to your party by this. These are willing males who want to have young with your female. If you forgot to change the blend and your female is not spayed you will soon have a vicious female who cares for lots of food and her mate. The mated pair makes a strong double battle fighters. There are many areas that are mapped and unmarked paths can vary in danger. The newer the map, the safer it is. Some areas are uncharted completely and you need to chart them on map paper to travel back on the paths. Only the most well equipped trainers travel on these paths, climbing gear, ropes, a machete, a hatchet, water purification, extra food; lots of first aid is needed. The climbing gear must have a helmet, harness, clips, a knife, spikes; a small saw. If you anticipate climbing a tree, gaffes which are metal suppers with long spikes to dig into the tree are strapped to your legs. Find the easiest path to get there or the safest. Going off the marked paths is vary expensive and heavy. When traveling weight is an issue for everything and plan how to pack. Having a pokémon that can carry heavy loads is useful and get a pack saddle for them. Keep the area clean at the campsite. It is for fire safety and the environment. Other humans can also be a danger. It is a dangerous world with rapist, kidnappers, homeless, murders, thieves, and crazy individuals. Your pokémon can only protect you up to a point. Use some common sense or wait to get older. You are then smarter and can carry more weight safely. Pack condoms for this danger, especially for girls and women. Picking food from the area is great on a slim budget but you need a picture guide to pick what is safe to eat. Seventy Five% of all plants are toxic to you and knowing what they are is needed, if you try one piece and get sick keep a sample for the doctors. They can then give you the right treatment. Spoiled meat is a danger as is under cooked meat. Your carnivorous pokémon can handle it but, you can't. Starvation is a real risk and some trainers are so desperate they eat their pokémon. Your carnivorous pokémon will kill your herbivore pokémon or you. If a female has young, she will kill to let them live so have a small library of guides to stay safe.

Chapter four what to look for in pokémon Some pokémon chooses you but other you choose. If you are choosing be aware of what, you are picking in a pokémon. What is their health status and gender. How will you capture it and which method is safest? Catching strong pokémon is a quick and easy method, however, they may kill members of your party or are too stubborn to train. Catching weaker pokémon means you have time for them to trust and obey you. Live born pokémon may look strange but, they are stronger overall. If a male fallows you because of your female. That happens a lot, and you catch it. Your female may want to sit with them, and she may want him as a mate. If she has a litter on the way, capture the male and transfer both to research facility or your house. If they are pack pokémon, select the former leader or the lowest ranking member. They are less dangerous than the leader. Convince them to join first then use force. Attract them with perks like a regular meal and a mate with not major completion for them. Former leaders are strong and brave but; some female leaders leave to join trainers to provide for their offspring. When starting out any pokémon will do just do not specialize at an early stage of your journey. Most pokémon are health but there are sick individuals with dangerous diseases that can harm you. If the target looks sick, think first. Is it limping, frothing at the mouth, or near dead? In chapter five the diseases will be classified there is an entire section on this matter. Party members may die on you so, have a balance party with replacements. When in a gym rotate your party to give you the beast advantage to a gym. Extra powerhouses are very useful in that area. If you have face a water type gym, use electric and fire types. A flying gym you need dragon and ghost types to give you a chance. Steel type gyms are a bit harder to handle fire and electric work best but water is good against them. If you find a legendary that has some special ability to control the elements or the celestial bodies do not capture it or you could cause the mass extinction of everything! Experts may force a task on you but, think before you try. The professor may force you to complete a pokédex but do not. It is too much work to try. They should do that job but they want you to give you a reason to continue your journey. Picking pokémon is labor intensive and if you take too much out of the environment there is unbalance and that increased the danger to travelers.

Chapter five Breeding control and reproduction, care and necessities Caring for your pokémon is a major task. Reproduction is a constant for wild pokémon. Some get old and die. They get sick and die. Finally they are captured and they want to make the next generation. There are reasons to stop your pokémon from breeding. The first is there are too many mouths to feed and all your earning will disappear into a sea of debt. Separating males and females in breeding season is the basic idea. Feed them separately or they will mingle and if you are not paying attention they will breed. Castrating males is the next option but know when to do that. Spaying females is done at the pokémon center and it is free along with castrating males. *Castrate the males yourself at your own risk. Do not do it during or just after mating. The female will do the same to all males who did that to her mate! Wait for her to have eggs or get pregnant. This is usually a week after mating when you can find out. If the female is pregnant, special blends are available for them. This stabilizes their moods and they have a two to three month gestation period and in later during this period their poké ball cannot be used. When they give birth in battle, you must remove them from battle and the young are helpless for two weeks on average. They instinctively fallow the mother who provides milk to them or food to them. The mother only will trust the father and you, if she does trust you. Remember she is the boss when it comes to her young, and you are not. The party needs' regular food and carnivorous pokémon will actively hunt for food. Inadequate food can lead some pokémon to kill the trainer or the weakest member just to eat. Fruit and berries must be given with grain and protein like meat to keep the party healthy. Grass pokémon can all use photosynthesis up to a point. Your pokémon will not survive on potions alone. They need food and water to survive. Sick pokémon in your party need to be treated at the pokémon center. There are common diseases and rare ones.' Below are some diseased that are the most deadly. Poké virus is dangerous to only pokémon and gives them extra strength. It can be treated. Type one is a different story, it can be treated in the early stages but can infect humans by touch. Quarantine is required for two weeks for you and your whole party. In later stages it is more humane to put the pokémon down than to let it suffer. This disease kills in weeks if you are lucky; but, months of suffering if you are unlucky. If a pokémon survives it, they are immune. Stage one has these symptoms: They are dizziness, fatigue and a high fever. A rare symptom is on the skin. Touching them with gloves gives them incredible pain like they are on fire. Put the mother away before trying this. Her reaction will be to hurt you. In her mind you are making their child suffer when it is not your fault. Stage two has these symptoms: They are hair or fur loss, yellowing of the skin, then they cough up small amounts of blood. This is the last stage that can be treated. Stage three is best to put them down. The symptoms are: blindness, skin rotting, hyper sensitivity, and bleeding profusely. Death naturally occurs to hemorrhages, blood loss, and organ failure. Many trainers quite after seeing this; There is no vaccine to prevent this and the local CDC or (Center for Disease Control) will contain it for the most part. Rabies is deadly. It is easy to tell and fighting an infected pokémon is a bad idea. If you are allowed to have a firearm, then shoot them and call the local police. If not, call them to shoot it. This disease can kill in a week. The nervous system is affected first and they can hardly walk straight. Do not confuse this with drunk pokémon. Dunk pokémon will recover after a few hours or die, rabies is different. Soon they froth at the mouth and will bite anything. They are violent and crazy at that point. If you or your unvaccinated party members are bit, go to the hospital as fast as you can! The treatment is painful and expensive. Weeks of powerful and expensive medications are needed and that will drain your founds fast. If you party was bit and unvaccinated, put them down it is cheaper. To finish this section, some pokémon cannot be saved. Fixing males after mating yourself is a bad idea if you are a boy. Prevention is cheaper than the treatments mentioned in this chapter.

Chapter six, league types and their legal status. Some leagues are illegal in general. They are sometimes hard to spot and enforce. If you fight in these leagues, you can be in serous trouble with the law. Legal leagues have written rules and do not allow the pokémon to battle to the death on purpose. One good it is an accident and is accepted. They will force a loss if your pokémon is severely injured or near death. They use direct deposit often to reduce robbery when traveling and proper medical attention. Illegal leagues are far different. Proper medical attention is hard to come by and they only pay in cash with no trophies. They tend to battle to the death or the loser losses the pokémon they were battling to the winner. The battles are more violent and there is a danger. If the female has a male mate they can hold her down if she is pregnant and if her mate loses, they cut her open. Call the authorities when you find the site of these leagues' battles. A lot of rescue pokémon come from these leagues and have mental problems. Injuries are not treated as a forfeit, but a way to mark winners and losers. Rescues can be rewarding, they are strong and have experience but, baggage can be a problem. Some are still good for battling and other only as pets or breeding stock. Others are just too, damage and are put down. Using rescue pokémon from these leagues in legal leagues is a risk. They tend to be more violent and skittish. They are not scared but, have post traumatic stress disorder. It is also called Shell shock, PTSD, and the shakes. Use caution when battling with them and keep your rescue paperwork on hand at all times with a backup somewhere else like you pokédex memory card. They may have strange fears like if you raise your hand and they act violent or scared. Some hate belts, brooms, sticks, and bats just for some examples. Overall they were abused and have the scars to prove it. Some a physical but others are psychological and can never full heal. Some have lost limbs and lost their minds. They may need medication as multiple personality syndrom and schizophrenia is very common in rescues from illegal leagues. Many are just put down humanely due to no hope of any recovery. Treat them separately and do not pool them in one treatment. Females can be skiddiest with pregnancy and their young, more that expected. In some cases you cannot even be ten feet away without the mother will act aggressive toward you. Rescues are best just as pets rather then battling. Some are normal and just had their person die on them; they just need a home but, others had deeper problems. Read the files on each just to be safe. Overall, legal and illegal leagues are hard to discern sometimes and observation is key to that. Have your paperwork and look at what the prize is. Getting rescues is a risk that can be rewarding. Some are good for battle and others are not. Half the challenge is making them better.

Chapter seven, things to consider packing Essential supplies are poké balls, pokémon food and medicine, rope, can opener, medical supplies, a knife, extra clothes, a dry bag, solar power charger, maps, a decently made cooking set designed for camping, a lighter with extra fuel and flints, matches, gloves, spare clothing, cash, rain gear, and food. When you start on your quest learning quickly how to improvise is important.

Your journey will be long and weight is everything. You need some essentials like food, water, medical supplies, clothes, maps and guides. Others are regulation, poké balls, a debit card, cash, and credit cards if you can have them. Have a plan and travel with others is safer. Remember to pack light and ship things home to avoid weight issues. A bicycle might be faster but, all the stuff you need may not fit on. A cart is a better idea. Bagged food is bulky and canned food is heavy. Some trainers travel light on food by knowing what is edible and what is deadly to them. A cup of food a day for each pokémon with six pokémon will run out fast. If they have young with them, it goes faster. A cart is more practical than a bicycle. The average travel weight for supplies is about 300 pounds of gear and food. Foraging extends the supplies but, as mentioned earlier weight is everything. Unlike the TV shows you learned from, a backpack will not do. They have a truck full of supplies and you do not have a truck. A hiking frame backpack is a better choice. It can hold more and in a pinch can be used as half a stretcher for larger pokémon, lift basket, counterweight, table, and makeshift whelping (birthing) support to keep the newborns off the ground and warm. It has many more used than can be put in this book. A good length of sturdy rope is needed when traveling. Cut a short piece and break it apart and you have a temp leg brace for a broken leg. You can make a raft with it. Rope is an infinitely useful and climbing rope is the best choice. Keep some twisted hemp rope around for smaller jobs. Only three changes of clothes except for underwear and socks should be packed, underwear and sock you need six tops. Change your sock frequently when going through water. Water tight shoes are great but, the disease of trenchfoot is caused by having your feet constantly wet and not having dry socks, then fungus and molds live on your feet. Amputation is one of the few ways to treat it if it is sever. Dry shoes and sandals should be packed. Sandals can be used in warmer or extremely wet weather. Shoes are for the rest of the environment. Learning through experience is a great thing but being prepared is a life savor. Remember to pack light and have a basic plan. Beneath is an estimate on the weight of the items. Food and medical for yourself: 50 LB Pokémon food and medical:100 LB Rope: 5-10 LB Climbing gear: 15-40 LB Tree climbing gear: 15 LB Clothing: 8 Lb Miscellaneous supplies total: 30LB Bicycle: 10 LB Cart: 7LB Pack saddle: 15 LB Communications gear: 10 LB Frame backpack/ hiking pack: 6 LB To conclude, think what you are packing and the total weight. Planning is vital and if you are not ready you will die.

Chapter eight, Legend and rumors Many regions have legends but a few are around the world. Vampire, immortal pokémon, ghosts of dead pokémon, and observers from the other side are a few examples. Others are creation's myths and the end of the world. This chapter will involve these rumors and legends. Death comes to everyone but some die twice or multiple times and are still not dead. Immortal and vampire pokémon are said to be hard to capture. Vampire pokémon cannot enter building and have no reflection. This is that legend. Immortal pokémon are just as it is stated in the legend and act like regular pokémon except they live of far longer than their contemporaries. You cannot kill them. Vampire pokémon can be killed with wooden stakes and human blood. The rumor is they can walk in the sunlight and their eyes can turn black with large fangs that come out. You may hear these stories in the pokémon center and not believe it. It is said that vampire pokémon cannot be seen on cameras or film. Some people believe these stories with the evidence of massacres where no victim had any blood left. There is not enough evidence to prove anything. Some believe that ghosts of dead pokémon become ghost type pokémon but that is not true. Ghost pokémon have eggs and a real ghost is dead. They can appear and disappear at will and often haunt a place after death. If a place looks haunted and there is no ghost pokémon it is likely haunted by a pokémon ghost. Ghost types are afraid of real ghosts, and their powers. Psychics and psychic pokémon fear them more. If a pokémon passes through them, they are dead pokémon that have not crossed over some can posses your living pokémon just to tell their story or for mating. That is a rumor from decades back. Some are said to haunt their old trainers after death. They do not want to cross over without them. Observers from the other side are a type of dead pokémon. They are rumored to have a physical body at will and are incredibly powerful. Rumors circulate around the world of two. It is good luck to see a ninetales and vary bad luck to see a houndoom. It is said to never tell anyone for a year and three days if you see them. Sometimes they are together based on some stories. The mightyena is a neutral observer who is rare to see. Only one region they seem to be fond of for the most part not one who believes seems to know why. It is believed they made it a home in the Five temples Region. Legend state there was a ninetales and mightyena as the founders of the society. There is a book only on this region. In Sinnoh there is polkia and dialga space time legend. In Kanto the Legend of Mew is common and of the three great birds. Most legends have a bit of truth but some are real. The legend of the first immortal is only know by a few humans and pokémon. This legend states that many pokémon came from the stars in a giant fireball. There is little to no evidence to this story. Vampire pokémon evidence is circumstantial and has little physical proof. There is real proof of dead pokémon in images. The trainers recognize the pokémon but they died recently. Other places are different and where a few pokémon centers have been abandoned due to the intermingling of the dead. Strange things happen when they are restored to modern use. Historical restorations also wake up the dead pokémon who resides there. Some say there are reaper pokémon who guides the dead to the other side. They cannot die and are undead. Not much is known about them. Legends and rumor are good stories with a bit of truth but some are real and some are not. Chapter Nine, required skills. Some skills are useful and other are vital. Cooking and cleaning are good skills to have. Medical and map reading are vital. If you can cook well, you can have travel companions but, getting lost is a bad idea in some areas. The worst places are mountains, deserts, arctic conditions, and large flat areas. G.P.S. can be useful to avoid this and reading a map is a great backup. First aid is a vital skill for treating you and your pokémon. It keeps them healthy or stable until you can get proper treatment. Foraging is a vital skill to extend you supplies and knowing what the uses are is a good skill to have. Cleaning is a skill to keeping your party health but clean is relative to the pokémon. In contest having clean pokémon is a great idea. In battle they will get dirty and clean them to keep infections low. Pokémon have a good immune system but others like hatched pokémon have a weaker immune system compared to live birth. Live birth gets milk from their mother which contains white blood cells that give them some immunity but, they are susceptible to more dangerous diseases until they are treated. Bookkeeping is a vital skill since you need to know what you have in stock and which females give live birth. Without this basic skill you will waste money and not have enough of one item and too much in another. This skill also keeps your paperwork organized and safe. Do not overlook this skill! To conclude, skills are developed on the journey are needed but, some are needed before you even start. Bookkeeping, map reading and basic medicine are so vital you need to have the working knowledge before you start. Cleaning and cooking can be improved on the trip.
