Dreamhunter's Quest Chapter 1 [A Warrior Cats Fan Series]
A fan fiction I'm writing based of the "Warriors" series by Erin Hunter. I plan to make it an animated YouTube series :)
MAJOR DISCLAIMER: I do not own or claim to own the original Warrior Cats Series. That is owned by Erin hunter. Erin Hunter also owns Thunderclan, Riverclan, Shadowclan, Windclan, and Starclan. Also, the warrior cats concept and the set up and functioning of warrior clans. This is simply a fan fiction that takes place in the same setting as the first Warrior Cats series. Erin Hunter also owns the concept of Riverclan and Thunderclan's constant battle over Sunning Rocks. All I own are the characters and the story line.
Three kits crouched behind the root of a willow tree and watched in terror as their clan fought to drive away the invading Thunderclan warriors.
"I gotta fight," Insisted Larkkit for the second time and made a leap for it.
"No!" his sister, Dreamkit, lunged forward, caught him by his scruff and dragged him deep into the crevice where the root met the tree. "You gotta calm down, Larkkit. They'll drive em' off. Mom and dad are great fighters. You know that!"
Larkkit looked disappointed, "I just... don't like feeling so useless... and Thunderclan has no right to invade us! If I was a full grown warrior, I'd skin every one of them alive!"
"Any of us would," Graykit chimed in, "but none of us have enough training and like Dreamkit said, mom and dad and the rest of warriors will drive them out."
Just as Graykit finished talking, their father Snowflight appeared behind them.
"Are you guys okay?" He asked, "What's wrong, Larkkit?"
"He wants to fight," Dreamkit explained.
Snowflight shook his head, "Larkkit, someday you're going to be a great warrior. You're going to fight in every battle, and you may even win Riverclan some victories..."
Larkkit's eyes brightened at the words and he puffed out his chest with pride.
"... but right now you need to stay behind this root. You haven't grown enough to fight, and for Starclan's sake, Larkkit, you're only three moons old! If you go out and try to fight now, you will get hurt! I don't want to see you ruining your chances of becoming a warrior by crippling yourself."
"But dad...," Larkkit's voice broke, "I... I'm strong enough! I know I am!"
Snowflight let out a long breath, "Larkkit... imagine how useless you'll feel if you have to spend your whole life in the medicine den..."
Larkkit's eyes narrowed and his ears drooped, "whatever...." He curled up against the root with his ears against his head and wallowed in his self pity.
"At least we've got him to stay," Graykit meowed.
"Yeah," agreed Snowflight, "but he's still mad at me. I hate having to point out how week he is, but he is only a kit. Guess I'll just have to trust that he'll understand when he's older."
A loud battle cry jerked him back to the situation, "I gotta get back to the battle. You guys watch Larkkit. Make sure he doesn't do anything to get himself hurt."
"mmkay," Dreamkit replied and Snowflight launched himself back into the swarming mass of claws and fur.
A howl of pain came from a familiar voice that dropped a rock in Dreamkit's stomach. Larkkit popped his head up in surprise and Graykit had a facial expression that expressed Dreamkit's exact feelings.
"Mom!" Larkkit yelped and clawed his way on top of the root.
Dreamkit once again got him by the scruff and dragged him off the root. "You idiot," she hissed, "Did you not just here what dad said to you? Stay low!"
She peered over the root and could easily see her mother, Thunderblaze, struggling under the claws of the lean Thunderclan warrior, Hazelwind. Hazelwind had a smirk on his face that Dreamkit would have loved to wipe away by clawing his eyes out.
"Do you know how serious about this we are now?" Hazelwind growled to Thunderblaze, "After this night, Sunning Rocks will belong to Thunderclan. And we will have taught Riverclan how serious we are about it. The war over it ends tonight, because now we have taught you Riverclan fleabags not to try and take it from us."
Dreamkit had to dig her claws deep into the roots to keep even herself from lunging at the Thunderclan mouse brained idiot. It was a huge relief that Larkkit was doing the same and not already pelting into the fight.
Before any of the three kits knew it, Hazelwind was digging his teeth into Thunderblaze's neck.
"Okay, she's had enough!" Dreamkit thought silently, "you've won. You can let her go now!"
But Hazelwind kept his teeth firmly in Thunderblaze's neck. And then there was blood... and Dreamkit watched in utter horror as the life drained from her mother's eyes.
