Never lose hope part 7
#7 of Never lose hope story
Hello all ^^ That chapter is a little bit shorter than what I'm use to, but I'm going to do a part 7,5 with more 'fun' in it. :P So hope you're going to enjoy that first part of chapter 7 ;)
Good read!
My eyes opened wide and I turned my head towards Jude who was grunting in his sleep. For the last few days, my sleep has been very lighted. Maybe I was asking too much of myself? I've always been good to help and resolve other's problems, but when it was coming to mine...
The unresolved case of my father, my brother's suicide and on top of that, my poor mother who didn't give me any signs of life since I came here, which is about a month ago. And today, it was even more stressful, because it was the last day before Christmas vacations. I didn't even dare to call her to announce that Jude was going to come with Blake and I back to Brimfield...
But looking at the beautiful dozing red wolf on the other bed was making me smile gently. We learned to know each other pretty well in a whole month; we were even telling jokes to the other with our mind. At the beginning, the eight others of our crew were looking at the one who was laughing alone pretty strangely, but they knew quite quickly that we could communicate by thoughts. With that strong link that was connecting between Jude and I, I got scared that Blake could start to become jealous, but he stayed loyal to me. However, I could feel that this growing relationship was slowly starting to disturb the shepherd.
Blake, on the other hand, became a lot closer with Brody that I would have thought a month ago. In fact, when he came back from his visit to his grand-father, he started to talk on a more regular basis, he was even joking sometimes. Noah and I went to him to apology for being mean to him and he forgave us without hesitation. If I was chatting with him frankly, Noah was reluctant and was looking uneasy when he was near him. He even told me some times that he still couldn't stand close to him without being mad.
I closed my eyes again to find some rest, but my mind was still wandering. So, I tried to concentrate on not asking myself questions, but it was worse than earlier. After what looked like hours, I opened my eyes again and rapidly stared at the alarm. Realizing that only a minute had passed, I sighed heavily and locked my eyes on the ceiling. Another wailing grunt brought my glare back on the tall wolf.
'At least he can sleep...' I pulled the sheets off and sat on the side of my bed. I ran my hand through my hair and got up. I walked the couple of steps separating our beds and I kneeled next to Jude's peaceful and asleep face. I stayed like that for a couple of minutes, only admiring the red wolf sleeping; his muzzle and his ears were very agitated, indicating that he was having an eventful dream. 'Wondering what he's dreaming of.' I smiled and placed my hand on his shoulder under the covers. He immediately stopped his agitated movements and seemed to calm down.
My smile widened to become craftier as I got up. I gave him a last amused look and suddenly, jumped on him; my knees ending on the sides of his hips. "WAKE UP LIL' BRO, WAKE UP!!!" I shouted and shook his shoulders.
"WHAT, WHAT, WHA-" His eyes had opened wide open and his body crisped; the adrenaline flooding his veins. Then he realised that he was pinned down to his bed by a heavy mass. He looked up at me and encountered my mocking smile. His whole body relaxed instantly and his ears folded back. "You..." He pouted and sighed. "...will I be able to afford a complete night of sleep someday? He smiled faintly.
"Maybe? Maybe not." I chuckled as Jude rolled his eyes.
"What time is it?" He yawned; the adrenaline rush slowly fading away.
"It's 1:38 a.m." My smile broadened as the lupine whined.
"I already told you that you're going to pay for that!" He said with a half-smile and a mischievous look.
"And I'm still waiting for that." I retorted with a defying glare. Then, I slowly lifted myself from Jude's body. "Well, I didn't woke you for noth-" I tried to get up but something was holding me.
"Where you think you're going?" Jude smiled toothily as he had grabbed my waist.
"Taking a piss?" I replied and tried to free me, but the red wolf didn't want to let me go.
"Wrong answer!" He then pulled me closer with some strength and I yipped in surprise. I ended up on top of him, chest to chest and our eyes met. We just stayed there, staring at each other sight; the awkward silence going on and on.
"And what I should have answered?" I spoke softly.
"Nowhere..." He smiled fondly and closed his eyes.
"But I really need to take a piss!" I pleaded calmly. He opened his eyes again and disappointment was easily readable. He then loosened his grip and I succeeded to get back on my feet. After a couple of steps, I turned back to Jude who already closed his eyes. "Hey! Don't go back to sleep, I'm not done with you!" His eyes stayed closed but his ears perked up in my direction which made me giggle.
I came back two minutes later, my urge now gone, and walked next to the red wolf who was looking at me uncertainly. "What do you have in mind?" He said, but I kept walking towards him. "I know that look..."
"And what do you know about that look?" I took the same exact position as we were a moment earlier; our faces now inches away from the other.
"You have something to ask me!" He smiled and couldn't resist wrapping his arms around my waist.
"You want to come with me and investigate in General Matters' office?" I said as serious as I could be.
"What??" He lost his smile. "When??"
"Right now!" I said imperturbably. Looking at his puzzling face, I couldn't avoid half-smiling. "Come on Jude, I need you on that one!"
"But I'm so good in here at the moment with you, can we do that another day. "He whined softly and tried to tighten the hug.
"Remember that you're coming to my house for our ten Christmas vacation days, we'll have plenty of time for that." I smiled to him. "So, do you come? PLEEEAASE!!" He raised his eyes to the skies and sighed.
"I can't resist to you when you're begging like that... Alright, I'll come!"
"YAY! Thank you!" I approached his face and gave him a quick kiss on the tip of his wet muzzle, before getting up. "Let's not waste any time, I'll explain everything to you while we get to the B-House!" I rapidly dressed and went to the door. "Hey, what are you doing?" My hand was already on the knob, ready to go outside.
"Ehh, yeah, coming!" The wolf got out of his sudden stupor and jumped off his bed, grabbing some clothes on the way.
************************Change of view*****************************
"...so, that's my plan, is it ok for you?" Vince asked me as we were getting closer of the B-House.
"Yeah, yeah... Anyway I'm the actor here!" I retorted sarcastically and glared with the corner of my eye at Vince who stung me his tongue in return.
'Well we're there, so I'm going to hide there while you work for your Oscar.' Vince told me by thoughts and placed his hand in front of his mouth to avoid laughing.
'You're the only one laughing to your own jokes..." I quickly looked at him and shook my head. 'Well, I'll go, but you own me one!' I pointed him with a finger and Vince simply nodded. We were on the side of the B-House, so I quickly walked behind the building and get on the other side of our target. Then, I casually started to walk towards the entrance where a large bear was guarding. "Excuse me!" I approached him.
"What do you want?" He rapidly checked his watch. "It's late; you should be in your dorm by now." He dryly added.
"I know, I know, but I was walking near here 45 minutes ago and I think I lost my iPod... and that's the only way I have to wake up in time for tomorrow morning..." I looked at him with pleading eyes, but he didn't seem to cooperate.
"And your partner?" He folded his arms.
"We were both relying on my iPod..." I dropped my shoulders and sighed.
"Well that's too bad for both of you!"
"Please, could you at least gimme five minutes of your time, you're the only one with a flash light and we can't see a damn thing here..." I still looked at him with pleading eyes and he seemed to soften a bit. "Come on..." I took a chance. "...it's 2 in the morning, there are no possibilities that someone could get inside within five minutes." He sighed heavily and looked at me suspiciously.
"Alright..." He gritted his teeth. "5 minutes!! And not even an extra second!"
"Thank you so much!!" My tail wagged a bit.
"Yeah... Lead the way!" He ordered and we started to walk away from his guard spot. A couple of meters further, I discreetly turned my head to have a look behind me and saw Vince stealthily walking on his tiptoes towards the entry.
'Good luck, you bastard!' I simply smiled to myself.
************************Change of view*****************************
I watched Jude and the guard leave the entry and slowly started to walk along the wall. Once they were far enough from sight, I quickly went in front of the door. Of course, the door was locked and could only be unlocked by an authorized staff member code. Approaching the keyboard with a trembling hand, I held my breath and composed the six digits. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth when the little screen turned green with the inscription 'Access granted'. I carefully looked all around me and made my way inside the B-House.
The atmosphere inside was heavy, silent; the white walls were looking at me menacingly and the sound of my steps on the ceramic floor were resonating through my eardrums, making me more and more insane. I nearly ran to the elevator and as soon as the doors closed behind me, my paranoia just stopped as fast as it began seconds ago. The elevator started to go down, but all of the sudden, it stopped abruptly, making me lose my balance. 'What the-?'
"Good evening Mr. Filiatrault." The voice came from the speaker above the door. "From the reaction you actually had, I guess you didn't expect that I would be here that late huh?" I rapidly scanned the elevator and found the little camera that was facing the speaker on the other side of the elevator. Realizing that I miserably failed in my attempt to be as furtive as I wanted, I glanced at the camera with a flippant look and waited. "In fact, I thought you'd come a little earlier than that!" I heard him chuckle and my eyebrow raised. "Anyway, I'm waiting for you in my office, see ya in a moment!"
I didn't have any time to add something that the elevator restarted to go down. A couple of seconds later, the descent came to an end and the door opened to the same huge room filled with computers. I walked past the numerous PC's and all the way, I could see that there were a lot of cameras all around the place. 'Damn, I couldn't have gone through all this without being spotted...' I was now randomly searching for General Matters' office when I heard him from far.
"Here Vince!" The black Labrador waved at me. I rolled my eyes, realizing again that I wasn't prepared at all for my investigation. I put a forced smile on my face and walk towards him. He let me in and closed the door behind him. "I see that you used Chuck's code to enter here..." He said as he walked to his chair. My blood froze in a split-second and my eyes only followed the Labrador who sat on his chair with a satisfied smile. "I'm curious. How did you get it from him?"
"Well..." I scratched the back of my head. "...I spied on him." I smiled foolishly and Grant's smile widened; he was still watching me patiently, indicating that I could pursue. "You probably know that he trust me a lot, so when he had to go in the B-House for any reasons, he would ask me to keep him company. So I took the opportunity to have a look on him when he was composing the digits and I found, to my surprise, that his code was my father's birthday date..." I softly smiled.
"And I also saw that you succeeded to distract the guard to get inside." He added a bit excited, which made me start to worry on his sanity. "Was your partner... Jude right?" I nodded. "Was Jude in the plan too?" He looked at me with big eyes.
"Huh yeah... Well, we can communicate by thoughts so-"
"FANTASTIC!!!" He jumped from his seat which made my shoulders jump from the unexpected reaction. "You definitely have a great military career in front of you Vince!" He looked at me with sparks in his eyes.
"If you say so Grant." I smiled uneasily.
"Well, I also guess that you didn't come here for my beautiful eyes huh?" The energetic dog joked and came close to me. "You want to know what happened to your father and Xander?" He placed a paw on my shoulder and became a bit more serious. I raised my eyes to encounter his. "Well, the least I can say to you is that they are not dead!"
"WHAT?!?" I couldn't believe what I just heard. "Do you have proofs of what you say?!" It was my turn to jump off my chair.
"No, I'm just telling you that for fun!" He sighed and shook his head. "Sure I have evidence of what I say, come with me." I followed him to the room next to his and my mouth dropped instantly to what I saw.
What instantly popped to my eyes was the huge map of Europe with a lot of x's near Belarus, Ukraine and Poland. A large table was centering the room with many files and documents higgledy-piggledy gathered. Two computers on a desk were filing the rest of the room. "Oh...!" Was all I could afford to say while advancing to the table.
"You see, each month, since 8 years, a couple of people reunites to talk and search your father and his partner..."
"But why did they send us a letter telling that they were dead? And in Iraq too when I know he disappeared in Latvia?"
"The US government don't want to inform everybody who's in the Special Forces, mainly for the soldier family member's safety. You know, to avoid retaliation and such... So they lied about Mark's death and the place where he had been assigned." He sighed and paused. "We found them four years ago near Braslav, Belarus!" He then opened one of the documents and took a photo. "Have a look at that." He handed me the picture.
I carefully looked to a really crowded picture. Of course, it was full of civilians; humans and furs mixed up. Since Dobermans are rarely seen in those locations, I scanned the picture and found a black Doberman standing in front of a store, surrounded by people who doesn't seemed to care about him. I immediately recognized Xander since he was a bit taller than everyone. He was looking to his right, so I followed where he was looking and fell on a guy who was looking back at Xander a couple of meters away from him. In fact, that guy was the only one glaring in Xander's direction. Focusing on his hidden face by local clothing, I recognized my father's face.
"So what happened?" A little smile crossed my face.
"Well when we were about to approach them, they suddenly disappeared into the crowd and we never found them back." Grant frowned a bit and I lost my smile. "They seem to regularly change their hiding spots... I don't know if they are enslaved or just completely free, but I can assure you that we will bring them back here even if they want it or not!"
"Have you seen them after that?"
"No solid proofs, only a couple of 'I think I saw them.', but no more, unfortunately..." He frowned and his ears dropped a bit.
"But why are you so determined to retrieve them? I mean, there must be a reason why you put so much effort in their rescue?" I asked, more and more curious.
"First of all, they are our friends, brothers of arms and key pieces of our lives." Grant said with his eyes shut and a content smile. "They are also very important guys for the US Army, because they were two of the best strategists I've ever known, that's also a reason their missions were always guaranteed of success."
"Well, one of them did not..."
"It was a trap!!" Grant barked, his fist hitting the table violently. He then looked at me with deep sorrow eyes. "It's all by my fault if your father and Xander disappeared." He coughed to hide his shaky voice tinged with emotion. "If I had taken the time to study and analyse the mission Ford confide me... Ford...!" He snarled with disdain. "If I ever get the chance to put my paw on him again, it won't be to pat his back!" He clenched his paw again.
"So, you share the same theory as Chuck?" I asked, trying to keep my cool.
"We all do! That motherfucker sent them away, pretending having a potential track on our target; The pacifier. Don't ask, I'll explain it to you in due time. Anyway, we think that Ford made a pact with him, we don't know the reasons, but he sold Mark and Xander to him. The results gave him six more years at the head of the US Army. We couldn't research on him when he was there, because after their disappearance, he was constantly watching our every move. And when he finally retired, every single document talking about that dick disappeared along with him."
"But why not prevent the White House instead of doing it in-house?"
"They want evidences of what we say... which we don't possess. But we're working hard on that, I can tell you!"
"I'm glad to hear that!" I smiled sincerely at the Labrador. "If I can help, in any possible way, just ask please!"
"Don't worry Vince, it could come sooner than you think!" He winked at me. I didn't react, but down inside, a part of me was intrigued by that little sentence. "Well, I won't hold you here longer, you still have a training tomorrow." He reminded me with a smile.
"Thank you so much Grant!" I hugged him without warning. A surprised yip escaped his muzzle, but he closed his arms around me. "It means a lot to me!" We quickly parted and smiled at him. "Well I gotta go, Merry Christmas General and see ya!" I started to walk away.
"Wait a moment Vince please!" I stopped and turned to a smiling dog. "What are you going to say to the guard when you'll get out?"
"Oh, that I simply had a meeting with you that took a couple of hours, so that's why he didn't saw me enter, because it was his colleague." I said matter-of-factly while shrugging my shoulders.
"Only a Filiatrault would have been able to answer as quickly as you did, I'm impressed! Merry Christmas to you also!" I started to walk to the door. "Oh and one last thing Vince." My hand was now on the knob. I slightly turned my head towards him. "Can you promise me that this conversation will stay between you and I?"
"Of course Grant!" I smiled to him before leaving the room.
"MY FATHER IS ALIVE!!!! HE'S ALIVE!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!!" I yelled while I was entering our dorm. I ran to Jude's bed, who was already back to sleep and jumped on top of him. In the excitation of the moment, I completely misjudged my jump and one of my knees landed on his solar plexus. On the impact, his eyes opened instantly and he lost his air. "Oh shit! Sorry Jude!!" I said worriedly as he was trying to catch his breath. "Fuck , are you alright lil' bro?" He nodded with difficulty, but soon his breath came back.
"My payback is going to be terrible!" We exchanged a cocky smile. "So, your father is still alive?" I frenetically nodded. "How did you discover it?"
"General Matters told me." I giggled to the red wolf's puzzled face. "Yeah, he caught me while I was in the elevator..." I rolled my eyes.
"Does he ever sleep?" We both laugh, but soon we stopped and started to glare into each other eyes, again.
"I didn't thank you for helping me huh?" He shook his head slightly. "Well..." I closed the gap between our heads. "Thank you Jude!" I muttered smoothly and closed my eyes. Our heads continued to get closer until the moment our lips met. I felt like if a little electricity jolts was passing between both of us. When I first kissed Blake, it has been really special, but that particular one was completely on another level.
We both open our eyes at the same time and shared a shy smile. "It has been a real pleasure to help you big bro!" He whispered tenderly and gave a quick lap on my chin.
"If I sleep with you tonight, will it count for a little payback?" I said attractively while taking off my shirt and showing him my well defined six-pack.
"Yeah, yeah, sure!!!" He said pretty excitedly; his tail was thumping loudly on the mattress.
"Like what you see?" I giggled, while my pants were already down to my ankles. He was looking at me with an evident lust of being close to me. Now dressed with only my briefs, I slowly slipped under the covers, next to the pleased wolf who didn't waste a single second to wrap his arms around me into a really tight embrace.
"You won't regret trusting me Vince!" He murmured erotically and licked my ear-lap sensually which sent chills to my entire body. His paws playfully started to study my body; one of his paws rubbing my abs and his other was circling my nipple with a finger. His tongue was restlessly licking under my ear. A deep satisfied moan escaped me as I tilted my head closer of Jude. "Mmm, I love your scent!" He said, as he licked, once more my ear.
"Maybe you would love to taste something better?" With my hand, I guided his paw that was playing with my abs a little bit lower.
"I would love that!" He slipped his paw under my underwear and gave my love muscle a light and gentle squeeze.
"But you'll have to wait a bit more...!" I gently took off his paws from my underwear and brought it back on my chest.
"WHAT?!" I bit my upper lip to avoid guffawing. "You're one hell of a teaser!!" He added a bit frustrated.
"Oh come on!" I turned to face him. "You've been able to wait a month, so I think an extra day or two won't hurt you huh?" I winked. "Oh and one last thing..." I said with a more serious tone. "I'M the one spooning here, so turn around lil' bro!" I soothingly ordered.
"Who told you that I was the sub here?" He said a bit taken aback.
"Me!" I motioned him with my finger to turn around; he reluctantly did. It was now my turn to take him in a tight hug. "You know that the dom's role is to take care of his pup?" I softly kissed the back of his neck and my hand directly went down his waist. "Oh my, look at you! Already hard as a rock." I giggled and rubbed his urging member. He was already moaning and his muscles were getting more tensed. "Well, if we don't want to sleep in a pool of spooge..." I stopped caressing his member and approach my hips from his buttocks. I gave him a little thrust, which made him whimper a bit. "God, that week is going to be awesome! Good night Jude!"
"Good night Vince!" He faintly said.
"...Vincent...Vincent!" The low sweet voice was distant, but at the same time, so close. "Wake up..." It was now slowly approaching. My sight was fuzzy, but I was able to distinguish a mass into that thick fog. "You're going to be late, as always!" The distorted voice kindly laughed. I was trying to focus on that muddled form, but nothing could do it. "Come on now, wake up..." The fog was slowly dissipating and I saw that smile, the one I could recognized between a thousand. "... my son!"
"FOR FUCK SAKE VINCE, WAKE UP!" I jumped out from that white and grey dream and opened my eyes. "We have to be at our spot in five minutes!" Jude panicky shouted.
"What??" I threw the covers away and got up. "The alarm wasn't set or what??" I quickly grabbed some clothes and followed the red wolf.
"I thought it was your turn to set it..." We ran past the door and dashed for the stairs.
"Thursday is always your fucking day Jude!" We past the second floor and soon we were madly running in the streets. The edge of the forest finally came to our sights and we sprinted the last hundred meters like if our lives were depending on that. Chuck was clearly waiting for us, carefully watching his watch.
"S-Sorry...Chuck,... alarm... iss-issues..." We were both breathless.
"You'll learn, gentlemen, that punctuality is one of the most fundamental quality you must have here." The Rottweiler emotionlessly said. "You can take that as a warning! Your punishment for coming three minutes late will be a hundred push-ups each!"
"YES SIR!" Jude and I energetically shouted at the same time and started to do our chastisement, facing the other.
'I ain't owe you anything now!' I annoyingly glared at him.
'Sorry...' He looked down with his ears completely flattened. We soon finished, not without difficulty though and started our routine run. Halfway through our run, Blake came and started to run along with me.
"You alright huh?" The shepherd threw me a worried side glance.
"I am, why?" I retorted, still looking in front of me.
"I don't know... you look preoccupied."
"Don't worry for me Ake, I'm fine." I lightly smiled back.
"You would tell me if something happened?" It was my turn to look at him worryingly.
"Of course Blake, I would!" I sincerely smiled at him. We both gestured our lips to say 'I love you' to the other and Blake went behind again to join Brody.
'Do you think he suspects something?' Jude asked me.
'I can tell he does!" I frowned. 'I'll need to have a discussion with him when we'll be in Brimfield.' The red wolf simply nodded as we continued to run into the forest. The rest of the day went pretty uneventful; we mainly spent the day on weapon handling and challenging the others to who was the quickest to assemble his M-16; Jay, the horse, won it pretty easily.
"Alright guys, it'll be enough for today." Chuck said as the sun was slowly setting. Everyone then gathered around him for our usual ending day chat. "Another great day, everyone's making good progress and I'm proud to have such a nice group as ours!" He said with enthusiasm.
"We wouldn't be the coolest group without the coolest captain!" I added and everyone laughed.
"I guess." The Rottweiler also laughed and scratched the back of his head. "Well a great ten days off is waiting for us, so I'm wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. So take the time to relax, because when we'll get back, it won't be easy I promise!" He smiled mischievously. We said goodbye to Chuck and made our way to the dorms to get our things ready. Jude couldn't avoid from jumping all around our room telling me how excited he was to go in Brimfield.
An hour or so later, Blake, Brody, Noah, Jude and I were in a bus leading us back to Boston. The trip remained pretty silent as I was sit next to Jude; Blake with Brody and Noah next to an annoying fat snoring guy...
After a 13 hours non-stop road trip, we finally arrived at the bus station. It was early in the morning; the chill wind was gently blowing on our skin and fur. We looked Noah take his own way, leaving the four of us standing in the middle of the sidewalk; waiting for our cab.
"Vince I have something to tell you." Blake broke the silence.
"What it is Blake?" I looked at him. The german shepherd took a deep breath and gathered his courage.
"Brody is coming home with me for the vacations." He announced and looked at me uncertainly.
"Oh!" A million questions were popping in my mind, but I decided not to investigate further. "Don't you have a family who will be waiting for you?" I turned towards the other human who was standing close beside Blake.
"I already asked my parents about it and they told me it was ok..." He retorted a bit too defensively for my taste.
"If you say so..." I shrugged. The cab finally arrived and the four of us jumped in it. The hour and half trip to Brimfield was, again, really silent, but as I saw the indication that we were entering the city of Brimfield, my stress seemed to jump of 200%. Looking out of the window, the thought of my mother made me start to lightly panic, but a soft paw placed on my shoulder made me snap back to reality.
'Hey, everything's gonna be alright!' Jude looked at me deeply with a comforting smile.
'Hope you're right...' I shyly smiled back to him. Our houses finally came into sight and the cab stopped at my driveway. We unpacked the trunk of our luggage and paid the driver.
"Good luck with your mother Vince!" Blake planted a small kiss on my cheek. "I'll call you later ok?"
"I'll be waiting for your call!" I kissed him back on his muzzle. Then, the pairs parted and Jude and I made our way to the door. It seemed so odd for me; it has been my home for the last 8 years and at the same time, I had the feeling that this house wasn't a part of my life anymore. I was so uncomfortable that I felt the need the knock on my own door... Taking a deep breath, I advanced on the porch and raised my hand.
*KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!!*
To be continued...
