Spyro & the Sun God: Chapter 13 (FINALLY!!!)
"Nngggghh..." The purple dragon groaned, his eyes slowly opening but his sight still fuzzy and blurry, although he could make out something big and orange-yellow nearby. "Whereee...am I...??"
"Whoa, slow down buddy. Stay down." Hunter warned. "You're still weak. The Prof. wants you to rest."
"Buutt...I've gotta save...Ember...I'm trying to fight this guy..." the dragon mumbled, lifting his head up and looking around, finally realizing he was in the lab's medical wing. "Whaa? How'd I get here...?"
"Dude, don't know if you know but...a week's passed since you were fighting anyone. And you were sleepin' like a lion cub the whole time!" Hunter explained with a soft chuckle.
"A WEEK?!" Spyro gasped, eyes widening as he sat up, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're kidding, right?"
"He kids you not." A familiar voice answered, a small penguin walked up to Spyro, wearing an army helmet marked "SGT. BYRD" and two little metal cylinders on his shoulders. "You were out for a week after Agent 9 broke you out of that frenzy you were in, soldier." "A...week... and what's happened while I was asleep?" The dragon asked, sliding off the table he was sleeping on, and giving his aching muscles a good flex, the numbness keeping him tired.
"Well, from what my unit has reported, lots of components have been stripped from this laboratory, and according to the professor, each of them could be used in conjunction to make a laser ray of some sort." The penguin explained, adjusting his helmet slightly. "All they're missing is a power source, apparently."
"The orb..." Spyro thought to himself, nodding. "I see. Thank you for the report."
"Hey, look who finally decided to wake up!" Sparx exclaimed as he flew into the room, buzzing around Spyro. "Yeah, we were attacked and stuff, but I showed them my mantis style. Hyaaah!" Sparx did some motions with his hands, grinning arrogantly, before continuing, "...and they ran away before faster than an egg-thief! Of course, I could've..." "
"Now's not the time, Sparx." Spyro said in a dull tone, flatstaring at the dragonfly. "We need to get those machine parts back." "It's never a good time!" The dragonfly grumbled, flying off with his arms folded as Flame walked in.
"Hey, Spyro. Nice to see you're well...!" He said as he approached the sore purple dragon, whose face lifted up to greet the red whelp. Content with Spyro's attention, Flame continued, "Sorry to bother you so soon but, Prof.'s asked for you!"
"He...did?" Spyro asked, looking at the red dragon intently.
"Yes, yes, he did. C'mon, the old mole guy wants to see you, the others can stay here." Flame explained before turning towards the door and heading out, Spyro eagerly following.
"You wanted to see me, Professor?" Spyro asked as he walked in and sat down on one of the bean bag chairs in the room.
"Oh, yes, Spyro. I wanted to explain to you what had gone on while you were asleep." The Professor started, turning around in his chair. "When you were fighting Blue, Agent 9 had to stop you, and he did that by using one of my special tranquilizer marbles on you. But because you were in your powered-up state, it had nearly quadrupled the normal effects, thus leaving you unconscious for a week." He rambled, Spyro nodding. "And as you may have heard, the laboratory was robbed because of our lack of defense, and all that was stolen could be used together to make a VERY powerful laser gun, much like the one I had invented. Luckily, the only thing strong enough to power it is in your belly, so no need to panic Spyro." The purple dragon nodded again, giving a slight yawn. "Mm hmm. So what are we going to do?" Spyro asked, getting a nudge from Flame, who was besides him.
"Oh, Flame... do you have anything you'd like to share?" The scientist asked, Flame nodding to Spyro.
"Got something to talk to you about," Flame said to Spyro, pointing with his head towards the door, "In private."
"Certainly!" The mole said, turning in his chair to face the computer once again, "I will be revising the data on the energy within your body Spyro, when you're done you should come back!"
"Got it. See you later Professor." Spyro added, before getting up and leaving the room, Flame still hanging outside the door. "Let's go out."
Once outside, the red dragon confronted Spyro, his tail swishing in the air as he spoke out before Spyro could ask, "I think I have a good lead on where they've got Ember."
Spyro's heart skipped a beat as he jumped with his eyes widened, "What?! Tell me!" he demanded, Flame ushering into complying.
"In the last assault I was able to see and track one of those big dragons. If I'm not wrong, they were headed for the Netherpeak Mountain." This made Spyro grin, full of hope. "Sweet! We gotta tell the others, let's," but before Spyro could finish, Flame stopped him.
"No." Flame hesitated, shaking his head, "I mean, the mountain can only be accessed really up high. I doubt the Sergeant, Agent 9 and Hunter, or even Sparx are strong enough to get there fast if you know what I mean" He said with a flap of his strong draconic wings "And we're probably running outta time. Not to mention they could be expecting you!"
"You're... right..." Spyro nodded his head, "Can't put them into danger! I'll go alone."
"Hey, I'm a dragon too, remember?" Flame said with a grin, "Maybe not as popular or strong as you are, but still! I'll go! I've trained enough!"
"Thanks Flame," Spyro nodded in acceptance yet again, "Alright, lead the way!" he said.
"Ready when you are!" The red whelp eagerly replied, spreading his wings and giving them a couple flaps before starting to walk again, both dragons heading out to the main exit of the laboratory before taking flight towards the mountain in question.
Back in the laboratory... "Netherpeak Mountain, eh?" Byrd rubbed his chin gently, nodding.
"Yep, that's what he said! Him and Spyro are going there, I think." Sparx explained, seemingly having over-heard everything Flame and Spyro had been discussing.
"I see, I see...well, can't have him going without any reinforcements." The penguin nodded again, before pressing a button on the side of his helmet, a speaker inside it turning on, and a little microphone coming down on the side of his beak. "Attention! Squadron 5, report to sector C-4 immediately!" he barked into the microphone.
Within ten seconds, five hummingbird soldiers zipped in front of him in a perfect line, all saluting in a perfect unison. "Sir!"
"Alright men! I have a mission for you all." Byrd started, pacing back and fourth in front of the line, Sparx playing the boot-camp tune with miniature-drums behind the Sergeant. "Master Spyro and Flame have gone to Netherpeak Mountain, to seek out the enemy. You five shall follow them, in case they are in need of assistance. Understand?" "Sir, yes sir!" The five birds said in perfect unison once again.
"Good. Now, move out!" Sgt. Byrd ordered, the five soldiers saluting once more before speeding out of the laboratory, in the direction of the mountain.
Closer to the mountain...
"You sure you saw one go here?" Spyro asked, flying alongside Flame as they were near to the top of the mountain, only about 2000 meters from it now.
"Yes, positive." Flame answered with a nod. "Trust me Spyro, I saw Red over here."
"Okay..." Spyro looked forward again as they were only 500m away now. A couple minutes later they landed at the top of a small bluff in the side of the mountain, a cave visible in the distance.
Flame spotted the cave, and pointed to it. "There, that's probably the entrance." He pointed out, before heading towards it. As they arrived at the mouth of the cave, Avalyn came out from behind a large rock, leering at the two whelps.
"I would say against entering this cave..." she stated, flaunting a stare at Flame who she had never seen before, although she could swear he could be Spyro's twin, only different in color."It's very dangerous." "Oh yeah? And why should we listen to you?" Flame shot back with a glare. "This is your hidden base and we know it!"
"Yeah, he's right. You almost killed me! Why should I believe you?" Spyro added, snarling a little bit.
"Fine. Don't believe me..." The dragoness huffed, stepping out of the way of the cave. "Hmph... men, all the same, always thinking they can rush things. I think all he needs is some incentive."
"You go on, Spyro...I'll deal with her if she tries anything funny." Flame growled, stepping closer to the dragoness, walking backwards ever so slowly. "I'll be right on your back..."
"Got it." Spyro nodded, taking another glance at the dragoness before walking into the cave, lighting a piece of wood with his fire breath, before picking it up in his maw, carrying it to light the way. As he walked further into the cave, he felt a slight rumble in the ground, stopping for a second. "What was that...?" he thought, looking around, but not seeing anything strange. "Huh. Oh well..." he kept walking, but only got a few more steps until there was a stronger rumble, some dirt and pebbles falling from the ceiling. "What is going on?" He asked to no one in particular, looking back only to see Flame running with a desperate expression on his face "SPYRO!!" Flame shouted as her charged through. "That chick went crazy and started bashing the ceiling! The cave's gonna- wooooah!" he nearly tripped, but maintained enough balance to stop only a few feet away from Spyro. "We gotta run for it!"
Spyro's eyes widened, it was true, and the way Flame had come through was rumbling dangerously, boulders were falling from the ceiling, blocking the path out. "Run!" The purple dragon cried, turning to Flame's direction as both of them started to speed up, the falling boulders closing in up on them. "Crap! It's falling apart too fast!" Spyro exclaimed, widening his eyes as they were closing in onto a curve.
"We'll never make it!" Flame said, barely able to make out light at the end of the pathway, but the boulders were too near! Both dragons jumped, trying to wall-jump on the wall met at the curve, the boulders crushing everything in their path.
"Wooooooooooaaah!"
