Rescuer?
Authors Note: Sorry it's been so damn long since I've uploaded. I actually have up to chapter 10 finished, I just have to edit them. If you have any suggestions just leave a comment, I'll be sure to read it. Enjoy this chapter!
When they were done Nick changed into his old trainer outfit and Ember took off her new clothes, so that they wouldn't ruin them. Once Nick and Ember had decided what the ring was, he looked at Kyla.
"Can you be ref again?" Nick asked, and Kyla nodded happily. Nick looked at Ember and smiled before throwing his knife to the side. "The first move's yours." Nick yelled, and Ember grinned.
Ember charged at Nick with Quick Attack and tried to hit him with a Close Combat, but Nick dogged and shot a playful burst of water at the back of Embers head. Ember spun around and shot a Flamethrower at Nick, but he dogged it and threw a small aura sphere at her, and Ember just barely dogged it causing a small explosion. Ember tackled Nick and tried to hit him with a Fire Punch, but Nick dogged it easily and hit her with an Aqua Jet. Ember spun around to attack Nick, but she couldn't find him. She started looking for him, and Nick tapped her on her shoulder, and Ember spun around, only to be hit with a Hydro Cannon. Ember was laying on the ground. Nick waited, but she didn't get up. Nick looked over at Kyla, and she nodded with a concerned look on her face. Nick ran over to Ember and saw that she was unconscious, but she was ok. Nick picked her up, wrapped her in a blanket, and placed her next to the fire, so that she could dry off and warm up. "Don't worry. She's ok, just unconscious. Other than that she's unharmed. I did my best to use attacks that wouldn't injure her." Nick said as he sat down beside Kyla, who was staring at Ember. She looked at Nick.
_"Thank you for not hurting her." _Kyla said, and Nick smiled at the Ralts. Nick put his arm around her and pulled her closer.
"I did my best to ensure her safety. I even made sure the Aura Sphere was small enough to not seriously hurt her." Nick said with a small smile. Kyla nodded and rested her head on Nick's side and watched as her friend slept.
Half an hour later Ember's eyes shot open and she jumped up, getting into a fighting stance while staring at Nick. Ember's eyes locked onto Kyla, who was sleeping beside Nick. Ember looked at Nick before tackling him, causing Nick to shout in surprise, which startled Kyla, who jumped up. Once Nick was laying on his back Ember tried to punch him, but Nick dogged it and rolled on top of her, holding her arms still and staring into her eyes.
"Ember, snap out of it!" Nick yelled at Ember, who started squirming underneath him. Nick sprayed her with water. Ember stopped squirming and looked at Nick, a confused look on her face.
"Nick, why are you holding me down?" She asked, and Nick let her up.
"You woke up and attacked me. Is something wrong?" Nick asked as Ember sat up. She shook her head before looking at Nick.
"I didn't hurt you did I?" She asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
"No, I'm ok. I stopped you pretty quickly." Nick said as he hugged Ember. Ember looked at Kyla, who was starring at her with a scarred look on her face. Nick also looked at Kyla, before waving her over. Kyla slowly walked over to her friends, before being brought into a group hug.
"I'm sorry you guys." Ember said, and Nick started stroking her head.
"It's ok. I could tell that it was because of your past. Am I right?" Nick asked, and Ember nodded.
"Ya. Normally when I was unconscious as soon as I woke up I was beaten severely, so when I woke up my natural instinct was to defend myself." Ember said sadly.
"Alright. I don't think any differently of you. But I must asked you one thing." Nick said, and both females looked up at him. "Did I hurt you when we fought?" He asked in a concerned voice.
"No, you just surprised me with your attacks." Ember reassured him. Nick smiled a little.
"Good." He said simply before another boy walked slowly into the clearing. The boy was wearing a brown cowboy hat, blue jeans, a black t-shirt, and worn out sneakers. Nick turned around and smiled as he stood up. "Hey Jack. What's up?" Nick asked as Jack walked over to them.
"Ruby wanted me to come and find you. She said that you were closer to me than I knew. Do you know what she means?" Jack asked, before noticing Ember. He gave a little wave to the females, who waved back. Nick smiled.
"Yes I do." He said happily. "She means your my half-brother. We have the same dad." He said. "You can understand Pokémon. I can use almost any attack." Nick said as Kyla and Ember slowly walked foreword.
_"Where is Ruby?" _Kyla asked.
"She's taking care of our son." Jack said, a hint of pride in his voice.
"Congratulations." Nick said happily. "Oh, Jack, this is Ember. We found her shortly after we met you." Nick looked at Ember. "This is Jack. He's my brother. We have the same dad." Nick said happily.
"It's nice to meet you." Ember said politely, and Jack smiled a little.
"It's nice to meet you to. I hope my brother has been treating you nicely?" Jack asked, and Ember nodded. "And how have you been Kyla?" He asked, and Kyla smiled a little.
"I've been well." Kyla said in everyone's mind. "Good. Oh, and Nick, Ruby wanted me to give you this." Jack said as he reached into his backpack and pulled out a small envelope and gave it to Nick. Nick slowly opened it and pulled out a blank piece of paper. He looked at Jack with a confused look. "She didn't tell me what was in it." Jack said before Nick looked in the envelope and saw a note. He pulled it out and read it out loud. _"Nick. I have told Jack to give you this because your mom has passed away. I included a blank piece of paper in case you wanted to write something to me." _The note said, and a tear formed in Nick's eye. Nick looked at Jack.
"Tell Ruby I said thanks." Nick said before smiling. "I can't believe she sent you to give me this." Nick said as he set the blank paper and the envelope on the ground. Nick looked at the note and burnt it, using a flame thrower attack. Jack gave him a confused look.
"Aren't you at least a little sad?" He asked, and Nick shook his head.
"She beat me every time she saw me. But she didn't know I could use Pokémon attacks, so I didn't fight back. So, no, I'm not sad." Nick said.
"Ok, well, I need to go. Remember, stop by any time." Jack said before walking swiftly into the forest
_"Nick, I'm sorry. I didn't know you had such a painful past." _Kyla said sadly, and Nick shook his head.
"No, compared to you two, my past was nothing." Nick said reassuringly. Ember looked at Nick.
"Nick, why did you save me?" She asked, and Nick sat down beside them, and they sat as well.
"I saved you because I felt bad for you. And when I saw that you were Kyla's friend, I couldn't let you be alone. And I knew if you were left by someone, you would have trust issues like Kyla. And I felt glad that there was someone from Kyla's past that she trusted." Nick said happily.
Ember stared at him before feeling a drip of water falling onto her forehead. Nick looked up as it started to rain. The three of them entered the tent and got ready for bed. Nick took off his shirt, shoes, and pants before climbing into the sleeping bag, with Kyla snuggling to his right side, Ember snuggling to his left side. Nick put an arm around both females and the three fell asleep.
Nick woke a few hours later to a masculine voice calling his name in his mind. When Nick opened his eyes he saw a small pink Pokémon floating in front of his face. When Nick's vision cleared completely he smiled. The pink Pokémon was a mew.
"Hi dad. What's up?" Nick asked sleepily as he sat up.
_"Well son, I came to check up on you. And I'm a little surprised that you became a trainer. You always seemed to want to take care of Pokémon, not battle them." _Nick's dad said in Nick's mind. Nick smiled.
"I'm not a trainer. The Ralts was my starter, but she had severe trust issues. And I saved the charmander from death. So now I'm a Pokémon rescuer, not a trainer." Nick told his father, some pride in his voice. Mew nodded.
_"Good. I'm proud of you Nick." _Mew smiled.
"Thanks dad. Oh, and I met my half-brother." Nick said, and mew gave him a confused look. "His name's Jack. He can understand pokespeak." Nick said, and his dad nodded slowly.
_"I'll go visit him then. I just wanted to check up on you." _Mew said before he teleported away. Nick looked at his watch. It was 4:00am. Nick laid back down and fell back asleep.
2 hours later Nick awoke again, this time to a much more depressing sound. Nick opened his eyes to the sound of the tent opening, but he could feel that his two companions were still asleep. Nick got up, put on his pants, grabbed his knife, and opened the tent. When he opened the tent he saw a lucario standing in front of him, completely soaked. Nick waved the wet lucario in, and the lucario nervously entered the tent. Nick grabbed a towel and started to dry off the lucario. Once the lucario was dry Nick sat down, and motioned the lucario to do the same. When they were both sitting they starred at each other. After a moment Nick spoke. "Do you have a name?" He asked, and the lucario shook it's head. "Did you only come here to escape the rain?" He asked, and the lucario nodded. "Do you have a family or trainer?" Nick earned another head shake. "You should leave. I'm sorry, but I have a strong feeling that someone is coming to attack me again. I don't want you to be in danger. Please, leave." Nick begged, and the lucario gave him a sad nod. The lucario left, and the same boy from the previous day barged threw the tent door, and Nick grabbed his knife and lunged at him, tearing a hole in the tent and waking the two sleeping females. The boy pulled out a gun and aimed at Kyla. But when the boy pulled the trigger Nick aimed the gun at his own left shoulder, receiving the bullet. Nick winced, but still put his knife into the boy's stomach, before pulling it out. Nick watched as the boy died, clearly still weak from the day before. Nick kneeled beside the boy and said a small prayer before turning to the tent. Nick got up, picked up a towel, covered the boy's dead body up, and walked back into the tent, covered in blood, sweat, and rain water. Nick sat down in the corner on the tent, leaned against the side, and closed his eyes. Ember and Kyla slowly walked over to him. Ember grabbed Nick's first aid kit and walked over to his wounded shoulder. Kyla walked to Nick's right side and hugged him. Nick kept his eyes closed but put his right arm around her. Nick winced and Ember slowly pulled the bullet out of his shoulder.
_"Nick, why did you take the bullet? Why did you put your life at risk for me?" _She asked.
"Kyla, I will die before I let either of you get hurt. And if I do die, I want you two to go and live with Jack, ok?" Nick asked, and Kyla nodded slowly.
_"Ok Nick. And thank you." _Kyla said sadly, and Nick opened his eyes and looked down at her.
"Don't be so sad little one, I'm not dead yet." Nick said, trying to make her feel better. Ember had finished with Nick's shoulder and gave him a light hug. "Thanks Nick" She said, and Nick painfully wrapped his left arm around Ember. "Thanks for fixing me up." Nick said as he looked out of the hole in the tent. "I just wish I didn't need to kill him." Nick said sadly. The two female Pokémon snuggled as closely to Nick as they could, and they fell back asleep.
