The Summer of a life time: Chapter 1 - The Move
It was finally morning on the day every young teenaged wolf like James wanted it to be, the start of the summer. This meant plenty of late nights, parties, hanging out with friends, with not a care in the world. But this summer was going to be completely different, this summer was going to be entirely new. The wolf was a young teen called James; he was about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and had an average body type for a young wolf of his age. He wasn't the smartest kid in school, and he wasn't the toughest, but he was very popular with quite a few good friends and a couple of great ones, but this year, that was all going to change. He'd always lived with his dad after the big fight, his mum left and was never heard or seen of again. But it was time to move on from what had happened, his dad wanted to start fresh. He recently got offered a job in the city, and they needed to move away from there home if he was going to be able to work. He wasn't going to move into the center of the city because of the crowd's of furs and all the noise of the heavy traffic. Although he didn't have to because he had found a house in a small little neighbourhood near the city, but not in the city it's self. It was apparently quite peaceful there and had lots of friendly people. And a very nice school, which meant that there would be plenty of teens around the area for James to make friends with. His dad was a bit of a busy guy and didn't have time to spend looking after his son. Most of the time he wasn't even in the house, and if he ever was, he would be in bed. James basically just relied on him self, being left alone at his age wasn't a common thing for a teenager. But his friends where always there for him, although now it just seemed like he was alone again. But he would make new friends, well he hoped anyway. It was 9:00am and they had both been up for three hours before finishing packing and getting ready to leave, and having breakfast of Corse. They were ready to leave just before James's Best friend showed up to say goodbye. It was sad having to leave your best friend like that. They were so alike people sometime's confused them to be brothers. At one point of talking to him before he said goodbye, he thought he could see a tear in the young wolf's eyes. Then climbing in the car and waving good bye, he suddenly felt a sadness well up inside. They would probably never see each other again. It was hard having to push away the thought that he may never see his best and closest friend again, but he managed to do so after about 10 minutes of sobbing quietly to himself. He was extremely upset about moving away, but he didn't bother arguing, he had learnt that arguing never got him anywhere. His best friend, His closest friend, the one who he could always talk to when ever he was sad or lonely, was gone. But there was nothing he could do about it, other than hope for a friend just as great where he was heading. It was a long drive through the morning; it was about 4 o'clock when they arrived, and then began unpacking the car when the neighbor's came over to say hello. James's dad was talking to them for about 5 minutes before there were other people walking by saying there friendly welcomes and hellos. After they had unpacked the car they began moving there stuff inside the house. "Hey James, there's a lot of stuff to bring in and it's going to be a while till I'm done, so why don't you go look around the area?" "Ok dad, I'll be back later." "Ok then, and don't get your self into any trouble." His dad shouted as James quickly scampered off. "Hmmm....... where should I go?" the young enthusiastic wolf quietly thought to him self as he quietly walked off into the distance of the house following the footpath carefully. Before he knew it, he was walking directly into the neighbourhood town center. Looking around the shops began bore him, so he decided to walk off towards a different part of the neighbourhood, when suddenly something caught his eye. It was a group of furs, gathered around a fountain that was in the center of a grass area surrounded by a display of beautiful flower gardens and flowerbeds. He walked over to the group of furs standing around the fountain as the sun shone over head. He was being over looked by everyone there, but in the end they all smiled at him and he was kindly accepted into the group with generous arms. Not moments before he had finished walking over one of the furs stood up. It was another wolf; he was about 6 feet tall, had a Dark blue shade of eyes, dark grey and some bluish fur. He seemed well built and was quite toned up. The Dark shirt he wore that was skin tight and faintly showing a toned slender body, you could tell he worked out a bit, but not too much. "Hey there, I'm Drake" He said, extending his arm to shake paws with the wolf. "You must be the new guy who just moved here? Is that right?" "Uhh.... Yea, I'm James" He said with a nervous look and tone of voice as he slowly reached out and shook paws with the wolf that was stood before him. They broke off from the paw shake and then the wolf began pointing out to the other furs, and began introducing them one by one. Making sure to be as friendly as possible to the new comer as he did so. "This is my friend Tom, who's well known for his sense of humor." He said pointing to an all white tiger; He had beautiful white fur all over his body and icy blue eyes. His cloths were sliming and showed off his muscles very well. He just nodded and shot him a smile, as James didn't hesitate he smiled back at him almost instantly. "This is Laura" He pointed at an artic fox who was sitting on the ground with an mp3 player listening to some sort of music whilst resting back up against a bench. She looked at him and then smiled as Drake said her name before closing her eyes and resting back again, enjoying the cool afternoon breeze. "And those two over there are Steven, ohh and that's Cody, my little brother. Well, half brother actually, but I treat him like he's more than just family. And I can't remember a time when he was this happy." As he said, pointing out to a dark black wolf who had strong golden eyes. He just sat there and stared at James for a moment, then looked back down at the small silvery grayish husky who was playing on some sort of game. They where sitting on a small section of wall where the two were having a small conversation with each other. But even from a distance you could tell that Cody wasn't really paying attention. "Steven is the dark one, with that angry (I'm Going To Kill You) expression on his face constantly, and Cody is the Small one who never stops playing that stupid thing that he holds in his paws" Tom spoke out to the wolf, chuckling slightly at what he had just said before smiling at the new member of there group for the second time in just under a minuet. James laughed slightly with what Tom had said and smiled back, again. "Hey, he's only nine years old, so stop taking the piss out of him." Drake growled to Tom under his breath so Cody wouldn't hear him, of Corse, he was too into his game to notice anything anyway, Steven was next to him and Cody probably couldn't hear him talking as he was so into his game. "Ohh, sorry Drake." Tom spoke out and began to pull an innocent face. Drake just sighed and placed his paw on his head shaking it, then decides to tackle Tom onto the grass playfully. They were rolling around on the ground play fighting before giving up and just staring up into the sky, there was silence for about a minute before Laura stood up and broke it. "Well I'm going to go now, my parents are Extremely fussy and want me in before it gets dark, so I'll see all you 'GUYS' tomorrow" Making sure to emphasize the word Guys' being the only Girl in there group. Laura then began to walk off, stopping for a moment to whisper something into James ear. "See you tomorrow Cutie." And before a word could be said back, she had gone and vanished into the distance leaving James with a blank expression on his face. "Ohh, Just ignore her, she flirts with everyone new, and she fancies all the good looking guys" Tom said to James who was blushing slightly trying to hide it with the fur that covered his face as he thought about what Tom had just said to him. He felt slightly confused about what he had heard, he then choose to ignore it, not to think about it until later. Then looking at his phone he realized how long it had been from the walk to the town and Thinking how long it would take to get back he thought he'd had better get going too. "Well its getting late, and I need to get home; I'll catch up with you guys tomorrow, It was nice meeting you all" James said to the other's as he was about to walk off he heard Tom get up quickly and jog over to where he was standing and then asked. "Hey, can I walk with you back to your's, my house is just up the road past your's so, if you don't mind?" "Of Corse not, I'd be happy for you to walk with me" "Really?" "Yea, that way I have someone to talk to on the way home." And so the conversation started and went on for about 20 minuets before they both got back to James's house, and the car was gone with a note left on the porch floor. James I Have unpacked everything and done the shopping But have been called out for a business meeting at work, then I will be introduced to the shift's I have to do, I wont be home until tomorrow at about lunch time, there's a pizza in the oven for you and plenty of food, and I have set up an extra bed in your room just incase a friend want's to stay over for the night, and remember to: Lock the back door, don't stay up too late, and for crying out loud don't eat all the food. This made James smile, suddenly he thought of a great idea. He looked at Tom with a wide grin on his face and stared at him for almost a minute still grinning, just before he noticed that Tom was getting worried from seeing the look on his face and so he decided to say something. "Hey my dad's gone for the night and won't be back until tomorrow, you wanna come in?" as he looked at Tom with a hopeful smile. "Sure, if you don't mind of Corse?" he said with slight nerves in his voice, James just nodded and politely led him in. They both walked into the house, both extremely excited like two kids at an amusement park' because it was all new to the both of them. They then began looking around, everything was all different, but James would soon get used to it eventually. After much of looking around the house, James and Tom were both in the kitchen, they had there eyes on the pizza left in the oven by James's dad. James walked over and switched it on, watching it heat up and begin to cook the pizza. Then he went into the fridge and was just about to make a drink for him and his new friend Tom, until Tom placed his hand on his shoulder and asked. "Hey, could I ring my dad off of your house phone to let him know where I am? I have no credit." "Ohhh, I've just switched on the cooker, if you want you could stay for dinner, and the phone is.... Uhh..... Wait, there it is." He said after a moment of searching the living room for the phone. He pointed out to the shelf in the corner next to the fire place where the cordless phone sat on charge. "Yea, I'll ask who ever pick's up if I can" Tom picked it up and dialled his house number James began waiting impatiently as he heard the phone connect then begin to ring. At this point all James could do is listen to his side of the conversation and try to make out through all the yes's and really's to figure out why it was taking so long and what they were actually talking about, or more to the point, Who he was talking too? "Well?" James asked as soon as Tom had hung up, wishing that it was good news, and that his new friend could stay round for a while so they could get to know each other a little better. "He said it'd be fine by him, because he'll let me do anything as long as it gets me out of the house" Tom said with slight laughter in his some what usual cheery tone. "That's great, so erm.... What do you want to do now?" "I don't know? I'm not really bothered what we do" "Wanna watch a movie?" "Sure" And with that, they wondered off towards the living room to pick out something to watch. After setting up the DVD Player and getting comfortable Tom making him self quite at home, James went back into the kitchen quickly to check on the pizza, as he left Tom to find something to watch. He was really hungry from the walk back, so he had put the settings on high so it'd cook much faster so he could eat. Little did he know that he'd be having company, so it was a good thing the pizza wasn't that small, not that he minded sharing with Tom of course. It was almost done at the temperature he'd began cooking it at, so decided to take it out and serve it up just in time for whatever movie they were going to watch. After cutting it into six separate pieces for them to share and readying it onto a fairly decent sized plate, he walked back into the living room to see if Tom had finally picked a movie for them to watch. "Did you find a movie you'd like to watch?" James asked with a friendly smile as he walked in and set the plate down on the coffee table. "I'm not sure, there's just too man.... Mmm..... Pizza." Tom quickly decided on what movie he wanted to watch just then, as he could never let a good looking pizza go cold and end up going to waste. Although in his mind, he was beginning to think that the pizza wasn't the only good looking thing there. After an awkward moment of silence, he shook his head of these thoughts and quickly looked away from him. Trying not to attract attention to him self, he looked back towards the DVD rack because he knew it instantly after getting lost in his thoughts he'd often zone out and begin staring. "What are you looking at?" "Uhh... nothing...... Just seeing what other movies you've got" Slowly his eyes began shifting around with his sudden nerves, he'd never felt this way before, he'd never really had thought's about a guy from this perspective. But this time, there was something different. "Are you ok? You don't seem like you're ol'cheery self?" Feeling concerned for his friend he moved closer, next to him, in an attempt to help him get comfortable and make thing's better. But this only made him made him feel even worse, until suddenly. He breathed out a long deep breath and began to relax again, ignoring all thoughts that came into his head. Pretending that nerves were just a figment of his own imagination, so he felt that he had no reason to be nervous. Then he just sat back, and fell into comfort as he relaxed into the softness of the sofa. "What was that all about?" James asked him, wondering what had just happened. "Sorry about that, the pizza's kinda hot." He exclaimed, using that as an excuse to cover up his ignored feelings. "Ohh, sorry, that's my fault, I put the settings on high so it'd cook quicker, sorry, I'll go get you a drink, I was going to make you one before, but you asked to use the phone and drink's just kind of slipped my mind, hang on." James went back into the kitchen and quickly poured out two glasses of coke for him and Tom. After taking them back into the living room he handed one to Tom and watched him drink it feeling concerned for him. After much time spent together they watched the movie Tom picked out, and finished off the pizza James had cooked. They were beginning to build a strong friendship together as they sat there chatting about, interests, music, and they even had an entire conversation related to food? "Haha, ohh, well, it's getting late, so i guess this is good bye then, unless I could, well...... Stay round for the night?" "Well, there is an extra bed for guests." "Really? Man, your dad must be over organized if he's already set up the guest bed and done the shopping then gone to work. Do you think he had time to cut the grass as well?" "Haha, Tom!!!, he is very organized, and knowing him, he probably has." "Wait, you say him, like he's just a guardian and not your real dad" "He's only a Father to me, not a dad, a dad would make as much effort to spend time with their son, not just leave him to fend for them self." "Ohh, I'm sorry, it sounds like you've had it rough." "Yea, it's not been all that good being me. Let's go up stairs and continue the conversation up there." And with that they cleared up the plate of what seemed to be very few crumbs, switched off everything downstairs and then quickly hasted up stairs to which ever room was James's. After going in and closing the door, James climbed over into his bed and Tom into the guest's one. After climbing in and going under the covers, they each began to strip down to there boxers, and begin to relax as they got comfortable and lied down, just staring up into the roof, quietly thinking to themselves. It was a long moment before either one of them said anything to each other. "Hey, uhh..... James, what do you think of me?" Tom asked with slight nerves and tension in his voice, as if though he was worried about it. And not wanting to hear the answer he thought he was going to get he quickly braced his mind for what was about to come. Or what he thought he was going to hear anyway. "Well, I think you're a cool, nice, and if I do say so, a very funny guy. I think your tones of fun, and have had a great time with you and everyone else today." "R... Really?" "Yea, it's been great, and to be honest, I didn't think I'd like it here when my dad told me we were moving." "Ohh.... And do you?" "Of Corse, I love it here. It's nice, peaceful, everyone's been nothing but friendly to me, and i think this could be one of the greatest summers of my life." "Yea, you're probably one the first thing's to show that this summers going to be a great one." "Ohh.... thanks." Even though Tom couldn't see it because the light was off, James was blushing with what he'd said. "Tom?" "Yea?" "What do you think of me?" James asked as he was still blushing which was hidden within the darkness. "I think you're amazing, and I'm happy that you came here. You're very friendly, you make me smile at times when I just don't want to, and when you joined our group in town today, you Really pissed Steven off somehow and I just couldn't help but laugh inside." "Haha, will you stop making jokes, you're making me laugh and it hurts" Whilst James continued giggling at what Tom said, even though he couldn't see it. Tom was smiling with this, and within that last few moments of the night catching up on them, there eyes fell very heavy as they both began to feel tired, they both silently slipped away, too sleep. End. * * *
Well, here it is. My first ever official story on this site. It's taken me a while to write it, but i think it's been worth it. I didn't put any yiff in this first chapter, just some romance and love, but if I get some good feed back then I'll think about writing more, hope to hear from you all. And remember: This is only my first, so please be nice with the constructive criticism.
