A Different Kind of Babysitter - Part 8
#8 of A Different Kind of Babysitter
"The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponents, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters." - Cus D'Amato (1908-1985) legendary trainer of two time heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson, Light heavyweight champion Jose Torres, and youngest heavyweight champion ever, Mike Tyson.
Little Martin never needed to be roused from sleep. The young folf had often gotten up early, attempting to accompany his father on his morning runs. Bradley always found it amusing that his son was showing so much drive to work hard at a young age, especially in an age where it seemed like more and more kids were getting lazier and so easily distracted by digital devices. Not little Martin! The folf was always begging his father to teach him boxing moves and showed tremendous prowess in hitting the speed bag.
"Morning Mommy! Morning Daddy!" exclaimed the folf as he ran out from his bedroom into the living room where his parents were watching the morning news. Martin jumped onto his father's lap and was soundly tickled by the heavyweight champion of the world.
"Morning, little champ!" said Bradley as he tickled his son. Tori gave her husband a shove.
"Bradley! Stop that! You're going to make him wet himself!" ordered the vixen. Bradley stopped his tickling assault, seeing his little boy panting from laughing so hard.
"You need your diaper changed?" joked Bradley. Little Martin's jaw dropped, indignant from his father's question.
"Daddy! I don't wear diapers anymore!" he protested, shoving his father.
"Your future little brother or sister will," said Bradley. Little Martin wagged his tail at the mention of the sibling that he would one day have.
"What do you want, Martin?" asked Tori. "Do you want a brother or a sister?"
"Brother!" said Martin without hesitation.
"Of course," grumbled Tori, shaking her head.
"Mommy's just upset because the boys outnumber the girls in this house," Bradley informed his son. "She wants the teams to be an even number."
Tori shook her head at her husband's absurd notion. "How about you get into your school clothes and Daddy I will drive you to school, okay?"
Martin nodded his head before darting back to his room to get ready for another day of school. Bradley put his arm around his wife as they waited for Martin to get changed. "I hope our next one will be as sweet as him," said Tori.
"Of course he'll be as sweet as Martin," stated Bradley.
"Oh, I see," grumbled the vixen again. "You're wanting a boy too, right?"
"I'll take whatever we get," said Bradley.
"That's good," said Tori, a smile returning to her face.
"Providing that I'm the father, that is," joked Bradley. His remark was met with his wife twisting his right ear and making him yelp. The vixen shoved him as he rubbed his injured ear.
"Ha! Letting yourself get beat up by a girl!" she joked. "Some heavyweight champion you are, you big pussy!"
"Woman, don't make me take the back of my paw to you!" teased Bradley. The silly couple wrestled around on the couch until Bradley pinned her down. The vixen smiled up at him.
"What would I do without you?" asked Bradley.
"Probably go insane," observed Tori. "You know you couldn't handle life without me."
"You're right," said Bradley, leaning down and kissing her. "I can't wait to see what our next cub is going to look like."
"Hopefully like me," said Tori. "I'm the pretty one of the couple."
"No argument here!" said Bradley in total agreement.
Little Martin had gotten up early enough to make it possible for Bradley and Tori to take him to a local diner for breakfast. The folf ordered his favorite breakfast dish, banana nut Belgian waffles with butter and hot syrup. As Martin ate, he showed his parents that he'd completed his homework that he had to turn in that day. Bradley looked over it, making sure that his son had done an acceptable job, which of course, he had. Bradley and Tori wee very pleased with their son's progress in first grade, with Martin's teacher calling them and informing the couple that he was reading at a much higher level than the other students. Tori and Bradley had read to their son almost obsessively from an early age, and Tori had even managed to teach her son some basic reading before he was in kindergarten. The pleased parents wondered if their son might end up skipping a grade he was so far ahead of the other first graders. After breakfast, Tori and Bradley drove their son to school, telling him that they loved him and would pick him up after school. The happy folf ran into school, ready to start another day.
Martin had already enjoyed school, but it got even better when Oliver and Olivia McCallister were enrolled in his class. The McCallisters had relocated to the area due to Will's exclusive training of Bradley. Despite Martin's initial reluctance to be around Olivia after she kept trying to kiss him, the two eventually became good friends. The trio of Martin, Oliver and Olivia were seldom apart in school.
This school day was just like any other, with the teacher going from one subject to another throughout the day. Martin always paid close attention in class, loving to learn about everything he possibly could. Not only was Martin an exemplary student, he was well liked by all the kids in his class.
Well, not quite everyone . . . .
Martin had lunch with Oliver and Olivia before the three friends went outside for recess. Martin, like most students, absolutely loved recess and playing outside. He was very quick and agile, even at a young age, and was always playing on the jungle gym and monkey bars. Today was no exception. The young folf was going back and forth on the monkey bars, trying to see if he could break his speed record. He yelled over to Oliver, who'd brought a stop watch to time him.
"How'd I do?" asked Martin, jumping down from the bars.
"Almost beat it!" said Oliver with a smile. "I bet you can do it next time."
"Yeah, you can do it!" agreed Olivia.
"Alright, I'm going to do it!" said the confident folf. He was about to jump up and grab the bars, but he was blocked by a trio of cougars. This wasn't Martin's first interaction with the three male cougars. Conner, Cody and Caleb Callahan, three brothers who were known around the school for being trouble makers and bullies. It just so happened today that they had decided to bother little Martin, who was none to pleased to see them.
"What do you guys want?" asked the folf with a curled lip.
"We're gonna play on these!" said Conner, a fifth grader and the oldest of the brothers.
"Yeah," seconded the fourth grade Cody. "These are our monkey bars, and we don't allow freaks to play with them."
"No mutts allowed over here!" cackled the second grade Caleb.
"I'm not a freak!" said Martin, showing them no fear. The three brothers had called the folf all kinds of repugnant names before, and Martin had stood up to them on every occasion
"Leave him alone!" ordered Olivia, scowling hatefully at them.
"Shut up, bitch," ordered Conner, gnashing his teeth at the she wolf.
Oliver now felt the need to defend his sister's honor. "Don't you call my sister a bitch! Your mom is the one who's a bitch!"
"I'm gonna knock your teeth out for that, you little faggot!" yelled Cody.
While the kids were at school, Will was busy working out in the gym with Bradley and Johnna and Tori were socializing in the McGregor's living room. Tori had found a fast friend in the white she wolf, and hardly a day went by where the two friends didn't get together to do things. The vixen and she wolf went shopping together, got their nails done. Today the inseparable friends were busy preparing their husbands a late lunch.
"You think the boys will be in soon?" asked Johnna as she was mixing a vegetable salad.
"Maybe, but you never know. Those two seem to live out there," observed Tori as she was taking a freshly baked lasagna out of the oven. The vixen made the dish frequently, as it was her husband's favorite. Will had also developed quite a taste for it too.
"You know, Tori," said Johnna. "I have to tell you that I've really enjoyed living out here. Our kids are friends, Will and Brad are best pals, and you're my best friend."
Tori gave her friend a huge hug. "I know, and I love you sweetie."
The backdoor opened, and a very sweaty Bradley and Will walked into the kitchen to see their wives hugging. Both males couldn't resist making remarks about the scene.
"Oh wow," said Bradley. "Girl on girl action! Hot!"
"I'll go get the video camera," added Will.
"You two are pigs," scoffed Tori.
"Oink, oink!" snorted Bradley and Will together.
"Our husbands are idiots, aren't they, Tori?" stated Johnna.
"Yeah, maybe we should leave them and start a life together?" joked the vixen.
"Okay, seriously, you two need to either knock that off or get naked right now." said Bradley.
"Yeah, quit being cock teasers," ordered Will.
The two male wolves quickly found themselves pelted with cherry tomatoes from the salad Johnna had made. Tori even managed to bean her husband square on the nose with one of the diminutive tomatoes.
"Ouch!" yelled Bradley, rubbing his nose.
"That's twice today you've let a girl beat you up," teased the vixen. "You really are a pussy, aren't you?"
"You gonna let her talk to you like that?" asked Will, trying not to laugh.
"For now," said Bradley, going over and giving his wife a kiss. "After you guys leave, I'll give her a reason to take out a restraining order against me."
"Try it," said the vixen with a smug grin. "You've gotta sleep sometime, darling."
Will and Bradley were ordered to shower before they were allowed to eat their lunch. Tori and Johnna did a turnabout with their husbands earlier jokes, telling them that they wanted to see them showering together. Both males agreed that they would do that, but they first had to see the girls naked together. It was then that they realized they were at a stalemate with the situation, and headed to get clean up, showering separately of course.
The two couples were about to sit down for their lunch, when the house phone rang. Getting up from the table, Tori answered it.
Hello?" said the vixen. Bradley could tell something was wrong by the way his wife's facial expression changed. "What!?" said the vixen. "Okay, I'll be right there"What's wrong?" asked Bradley.
Tori hung up the phone. "We have to go down to the school. Martin got in a fight with three boys!"
"Is he okay?" asked a seriously concerned Bradley.
"I think so," said Tori. "Where are my car keys?"
"Right here," said Bradley, tossing the car keys to his wife. "I'm coming with you."
"Okay," said Tori, collecting her purse. "But let me go in and try to handle it. I don't want you getting upset."
"Deal," said Bradley. Already he could feel his temper flaring up. He'd have to control himself.
Tori and Bradley left the house and no more than a mile down the road were sent a text from the McCallisters saying that they had been requested to come to the school as well. Tori then realized that Oliver and Olivia must have been involved in the altercation, and wondered just how bad the situation was.
Once at the school, Tori reminded her husband that she wanted him to stay in the car unless she texted him otherwise. Bradley reluctantly agreed. He sat in the driver's seat, his temper getting worse by the second. He just knew that whatever had happened, Martin had not started the fight. Tori ran into the school and over to the principal's office. Johnna arrived soon after and the school secretary had them go into the principal's office. Walking into the administration office, Tori and Johnna saw three male cougars sitting down in the nurse's office. All three boys had there noses lifted into the air, blood coated the tissues they held against them.
Mr. Frank Weller, the rabbit principal of the school was sitting at his desk when Tori and Johnna walked in. The two females took notice of an older male cougar who was sitting across from him. The cougar, dressed in a dirty flannel shirt, an equally dirty white t-shirt and ball cap. The cougar had a considerable beer gut on him. He gave them a dirty look as they entered the office.
"Mr. Weller?" said Tori. "I'm Mrs. McGregor and this is Mrs. McCallister. Where are our children?"
"They're in another room. You can see them after we have a little talk," Mr. Weller informed her. "Please, have a seat."
Johnna and Tori sat down, but before Mr. Weller could explain what had transpired, the male cougar started in. "That little brat of yours beat up my three boys! I oughtta sue you!"
"Who are you?" asked Tori with a snarl.
"This is Mr. Callahan," said Mr. Weller. "Apparently your son Martin assaulted his three sons."
Tori wasn't unfamiliar with the name "Callahan". Martin had told both of his parents about how he was teased and bullied by the three brothers. Tori told her young folf to try and avoid contact with them if possible, and never start a fight.
"I know who he is," said Tori. "His three boys have been harassing my son for quite some time now."
"That's a lie!" growled Mr. Callahan. "Look at what your son did to my boys!"
"I'm sure he was just defending himself," Tori shot back. "He was probably sick and tired of being called a mutt, mongrel and freak by your boys."
"Please, everyone," said the principal, trying to calm the situation. "Let's be civil with one another."
"How are my children involved in this?" asked Johnna.
"Oliver and Olivia were present when the fight happened, Mrs. McCallister," said the rabbit. "They informed me that Mr. Callahan's sons confronted them and ordered them off the monkey bars. Olivia told them to leave them alone, Conner called her a vulgar name, and Oliver threw it back at them. That's when the physical altercation occurred."
"So, what are you going to do with our kids?" asked Tori.
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to suspend them, Mrs. McGregor. We don't tolerate fighting on school grounds."
"What?" said a flabbergasted Tori. "My son was just defending himself against those little monsters of his!"
"Hey, fuck you, lady," grwoled Mr. Callahan. "You shouldn't let that little freak of yours into this school anyway!"
"Mr. Callahan, please. That isn't productive," said the principal.
Tori had decided that she'd had enough of what was taking place. Getting out her phone, she texted Bradley to get into the office, and to bring Will with him.
"What are you doing, Mrs. McGregor?" asked the principal.
"Just telling my husband that he needs to deal with this," said the vixen.
"Go ahead," said Mr. Callahan as he rose to his feet. "I'm gonna sue both of you! I'm not gonna put up with some bitch of a vixen calling my kids . . ."
Mr. Callahan's attention was instantly diverted to the sight of two very large, and very angry male wolves storming into the office. The cougar's bravado suddenly vanished.
"Names," Mr. Callahan said, finishing his sentence in a meek tone.
"Bradley," said Tori, seeing the wrath in her husband's face. "This is the father of those three boys who've been harassing Martin."
Bradley walked up to Mr. Callahan, intentionally getting in his personal space. Will went to Bradley's side, backing up his friend.
"So," snarled Bradley. "Let me guess, you're little brats were bothering my son again, weren't they?"
"I . . . um," said Mr. Callahan, unable to find his words.
Bradley pointed his paw right at Mr. Callahan. "I saw your boys out there at the nurses station. Looks like they got more than they bargained for when they decided to pick a fight with Martin. Well, so have you."
"Mr. McGregor," said Mr. Weller. "If you hit that man, I'll have no choice but to call the police."
"Do it," said Bradley, still staring down the cougar. "And call an ambulance for this son of a bitch while you're at it."
"Ever been to intensive care, Mr. Callahan?" asked Will in an equally threatening tone.
Mr. Weller went to speak again, but Bradley was the one dominating the conversation now. "Let me tell you how this is gonna play out. My son is not going to be suspended for defending himself. You will suspend those little bastard cougars of this man's."
"I think we can arrange that," said a severely intimidated Mr. Weller.
"And," added Bradley, pointing his paw only an inch from the cougar's face. "You are going to tell your boys that if they even so much as look at my son the wrong way, Mr. McCallister and I are going to pay you a visit and I promise you that you'll get that ambulance ride, Mr. Callahan."
Mr. Callahan could barely stand, his knees were so wobbly. His throat was parched from the very real fear he was experiencing. The cougar was fat, out of shape, and was no match for a professional prize fighter, let alone two. He nodded his head in agreement.
"We'll be taking our children home now," said Bradley. "Good day to you, Mr. Weller."
"Good day to you too, Mr McGregor," uttered the rabbit.
"And you remember what I promised you, Mr. Callahan. Trust me, I'll give you something to sue me about if you don't keep up your end of the deal."
The two couples exited the principal's office, but Bradley couldn't help but stopping and watching the three bloody nosed cougars. He shook his head at them. The three boys, noses still bleeding looked at the large wolf as he spoke to them.
"The three of you beaten up by a little folf. How pathetic."
The two couples collected their kids and went home. Bradley couldn't help but feel some pride at how well his son had done against the three bullies. Perhaps he would become the greatest fighter in the McGregor line one day. Only time would tell.
