Another Tale

I thought this story was lost honestly, as it wasn't with the rest of my stories I had written. I'm glad I found it, it's one of the longer and in my opinion better stories I wrote from when I was originally part of SoFurry circa 2015-2017. I want to go through it later and touch it up a bit and make sure the grammar and spelling are okay.

Toriel was a lonely woman, she lived in the ruins by herself for many years, becoming a hermit after the death of her two sons and her divorce from Asgore, the king of the underground. The only company she has are the few residents who still live in the ruins whom she rarely speaks to and a voice from the other side of the door leading to the rest of the underground, a young man who tells her jokes when she's feeling lonely. She feels that her relationship with that man though is more like that of a pen pal, how could she have attraction to a man she knows little about and whom she has never even seen or who's name she doesn't even know? However, she has recently found herself in the company of a human child by the name of Frisk, a child she has managed to convince to stay with her in the ruins, at least for the time being. Her reasoning for this was that the monsters in the rest of the underground were actively hunting humans, hoping to use their souls to break the magic barrier which has kept them sealed away for over a thousand years. In truth though, she was incredibly lonely and wanted a family again and to be a mother again. As Frisk slept that evening in his bed which once belonged to one of her sons when they were still alive, she sat down and read a book in the faint glow of the fireplace, wearing her small reading glasses.

Toriel Dreemurr in appearance was around 40 human years old and over six and a half feet tall, but in actuality she was over a thousand years old and remembered well the war between the humans and the monsters, all started due to petty misunderstandings from both sides and fears that monsters would absorb human souls, an act which monsters could perform but was gravely forbidden. Her outward appearance was similar to that of a humanoid goat, with soft white fur and a slightly plump, motherly body. Toriel had a pair of small horns adorning the top of her head, floppy ears and a pair of small yet non-threatening fangs protruding from her upper lip, her eyes were lavender colored and expressive with large eyelashes. Her dress matched her eyes, a long robe which was adorned with a winged circle and three triangles known as the delta rune and the symbol of the monster race. As Frisk slept soundly she read a romance novel. As much as she wanted to have a new child in her life she also wanted to have a man as well, someone to make up a complete family for her and to satisfy her still prominent feminine needs. She would often fantasize of a strong, mysterious stranger whisking her off her feet, kicking down the barrier of the underground and carrying her into the sunset, but such thoughts were merely fantasy and all she really had anymore.

Frisk was not the first human to fall into the underground, seven others had come before them, including one of her two sons. Their ages and backgrounds all greatly differed from one another: a ballerina, a chef, a scientist, a bounty hunter and even a mysteriously out of place professional wrestler. Some of the people who fell were children, others were adults and there was even an old man, but all had one thing in common, they all met with terrible fates at the hands of Asgore or one of his subordinates and all had their souls collected like trinkets. Time after time she warned the humans not to leave the ruins, that doing so would only spell their deaths but the stubborn people she tried to protect didn't listen to her warnings and all were destroyed in the end. It was for this exact reason that she was so adamant to keep Frisk, the kindest yet also the strangest of them all, from ever going near the rest of the underground which wanted his soul so badly. She felt bad knowing that Frisk had a family on the surface waiting for him, a father he had mentioned to her, but it was the only way to keep him safe until she found a way to get him to the surface safely. She finished reading her book and approached Frisk's bedroom, opening the door a crack she saw the human sleeping soundly, though he always kept his eyes mostly squinted, making it difficult to tell whether he was awake or asleep. Frisk was an odd human, he preferred to be referred to as "they" instead of "him" and he had a strange affinity for feminine things. Despite this, Frisk was incredibly flirty and had an odd sense of humor, she remembered how Frisk flirted with her when he first saw her, then called her "mom" and proceeded to say she was a "hot momma". Toriel felt embarrassed yet at the same time endeared, he certainly was an interesting child, especially given his permanently deadpan expression he kept at all times. In appearance Frisk had darker skin than the other humans Toriel had encountered and exotic facial features, she couldn't help but feel that he was the native of some distant land of jungles and high mountains.

"I wonder what his father looks like?" Toriel wondered to herself, but then shook the thought off as her fantasizing once again. She walked over and pulled the quilt over Frisk's shoulder and kissed him on the head.

"Good night my child." She said before leaving and heading to bed, getting dressed into her silky white nightgown and lying down on her large bed which once accommodated a second, much larger person. It was warm and cozy but lonely, and soon after she turned in for the night she fell into a peaceful sleep.

Meanwhile, on the surface an adult human grew increasingly more worried at the disappearance of his son. The police searched the town all over for him and rescue crews combed the surface of Mount Ebott in search of the boy but to no avail. The man's name was Rio and he was Frisk's father, a person of native Peruvian descent, he had dark skin and long hair much like his son who looked very similar to him, albeit younger. He had a strong body and was very experienced with mountaineering and exploring, having previously lived in a mountain village in his home country before coming to where he was now. His clothes consisted of a red plaid shirt, jeans and brown boots and he often wore a colorful poncho decorated with Peruvian art and a wide brimmed hiking hat. When he first came to this country he was an immigrant looking for work, though he managed to become a citizen and even married a woman who would become Frisk's mother, but this marriage didn't last long. This woman, whom Rio has not seen in many years, divorced him because she felt her life had become "routine" and "lacking excitement", words which translated to him as meaning she had lost interest in him. He wound up with custody of Frisk as she was uninterested in taking care of him and the two lived in an apartment in the village at the base of Mount Ebott, struggling with debts from his divorce and other financial issues. He remembered one day that Frisk came home from school and told him in his native language about a rumor he heard from children that Mount Ebott is filled with gold and treasure, and how if they went to the mountain they could collect it all and not have to worry about money again. Of course, Rio forbid Frisk from going anywhere near the mountain, he knew that it was dangerous and many people who went to explore it never returned. Many dastardly rumors surrounded Mount Ebott's mysteries, rumors of sinkholes forming and swallowing up hapless climbers, of criminals and thieves who made hideouts there and of wild bears and other dangerous animals. The most bizarre of these rumors though was that the inside of the mountain was filled with millions of monsters. He knew that at least some of these rumors were true and he wanted no chances taken in traversing the mountain in search of a foolish rumor.

Then one day, Frisk disappeared during the night. Rio awoke and found a letter left by his son saying he was going to go to Mount Ebott and save their home from foreclosure. Rio panicked and searched everywhere in town for him, got the police and rescue teams involved and ultimately came up empty handed. Now with little other choice, he had gathered up his mountaineering equipment and headed up the mountain himself, he was going to find his son even if it killed him. He took a grappling hook and various other climbing tools, some food, supplies and clothes and headed up the mountain by himself. Rio searched for days for Frisk, being unable to find any sign of his presence until he eventually came across a small trinket, a pocket watch that he recognized belonged to his son, and from there he found shoe prints of a small child leading to a sudden stop into a deep chasm. It was exactly as Rio had feared, his son had plummeted into a pit and was likely killed, but he had to be sure, if his son had survived the fall he could be injured and waiting for rescue at the bottom. Not thinking ahead, Rio fastened the grappling hook and repelling line to a tree and became to descend down the pit. The pit had a strange and eerie feel to it, he knew that it was a mysterious place unlike any cave he had ever explored. It was now morning and the first rays of the sun had illuminated the clouds above into golden whisps. Rio descended about a hundred feet down the pit when suddenly he felt the rope that was preventing him from falling snap as it had rubbed against a sharp rock. He fell for what seemed to be another several feet before hitting the ground with an audible thump.

"Ugh, damn it!" Rio said out loud as his body ached from the impact. Feeling bruised but with nothing broken, Rio was thankful that the rope didn't break further up, otherwise he would've surely fell to his death. He looked around the area he was in, it was unlike anything he had ever seen before, it was filled with mysterious pillars and ruins from what seemed to be an ancient, unknown civilization. He knew enough about the country he was living in that there were no advanced civilizations that lived there which made elaborate pillars and stone hallways, the ancient people of this country lived in simple huts. The ruins themselves were not unlike the ancient, abandoned cities of Peru. Looking around he saw no sign of Frisk's body, but he did see more footprints in the moist soil leading to a dilapidated doorway into darkness. Rio knew at this point that Frisk was still alive and somewhere in ruins, probably looking for a way out. With no other choice, he continued down the path.

Toriel had just finished making breakfast for Frisk, who sat at the dinner table and ate a plate of pancakes and syrup. Toriel sipped at a cup of golden flower tea as Frisk ate, having a sinking feeling that she should take another look at the spot where Frisk had fallen, just in case another human had fallen. This sort of thing had become her daily ritual, ever since the first human fell after she had moved into the ruins she kept an eye in the same spot, and surely enough time after time more humans would fall into that pitfall.

"Frisk my child, I'm going to go take a look into the ruins again to see if any other humans had fallen. Surely someone has been looking for you and I want to make sure that nobody gets injured or killed." Toriel said to Frisk, who wore his usually blank expression.

"Can I come to?" Frisk asked. "Surely you're not going to leave me alone by myself again, right?"

Toriel thought for a moment and remembered how she wanted to surprise Frisk with a butterscotch and cinnamon pie when he first arrived, only to return and discover that some rowdy monsters had bullied the poor kid. Sufficed to say, she forced an apology from the ones who had harmed him. She didn't want to leave him by himself in case something else happened, so she reluctantly agreed.

"I suppose so." Toriel said. "But stick close to me and don't go wandering off, understood?"

Frisk nodded yes and moved in beside her, holding her large, fluffy hand. They left their home in the ruins and wandered through the long, winding hallways where Frisk decided to play in the crimson leaves where a sign specifically said not to step over the leaves.

"My child, the sign says not to tread through the leaves, please stop or you'll make a mess." Toriel scolded, though not too much. Frisk sighed in defeat.

"Okay..." Frisk whined as he ran back up to Toriel, who continued to head towards the entrance of the ruins.

Rio looked around at the ruins, the ancient hieroglyphs and pictographs portrayed a race of people who were most definitely not human. Among the images were bunny people, goat people, skeletons, and all manner of strange and fantastical creatures, and yet there is only a single image of something that appears to be human. At the top is a winged human who the monsters were all in awe of, descending from the sky with one angelic wing and one demonic, bat-like wing and surrounding the pictures were texts written in some unknown language he couldn't decipher. Moving along, he came across a new room where there was a single ray of light raining down from a hole in the ceiling onto a lone patch of grass where a single yellow flower was seemingly waiting for him, a flower that seemed to have a smiling face. At first, Rio thought it was his imagination, or that the flower had patterns that simply "looked" like a face, but then it began to talk.

"Howdy!" The flower said in a high pitched voice with a slight southern accent. Rio literally jumped back when he heard it.

"Dah, what's the matter? I'm just a harmless little flower. Golly, you humans sure are jumpy!" The flower said with a certain teasing tone to it's voice. "I'm Flowey, Flowey the Flower."

Rio didn't respond at first, he didn't really know how to respond to a talking flower, but after a moment he decided to finally speak.

"H-Have you seen any other humans around here? One that might look a little like me but shorter?" Rio asked, getting straight to the point. Flowey laughed.

"Oh? You mean like this?" Flowey said as his face changed appearance, looking like Frisk's.

"Yeah, I've seen a human fall down here not long ago." Flowey said with Frisk's somewhat monotone voice.

"If you come close I'll tell you where he went." Flowey said, gesturing Rio to come over to him. Rio walked over in front of Flower.

"Closer." Flowey said, making him approach closer.

"Come on down, don't be shy." Flowey said to Rio who finally knelt down in front of Flowey with annoyance.

"Alright, now can you finally PLEASE tell me where my son is?" Rio said to Flowey, Flowey responded by spitting in his face, his falsely innocent face then turning twisted with black pupils and a crooked smile.

"Blow it out your ass! In this world it's KILL or be K-AHH!" Flowey shrieked as Rio grabbed him by the stem and raised his fist ready to pummel the flower into the ground.

"You think you're smart you little bastard!?" Rio yelled as he squeezed on Flowey's stem, choking him, Flowey's face became fearful as he realized that the human he was dealing with was much stronger and much scarier than the child he previous tried to attack. In desperation, Flowey sunk his fangs into Rio's hand, drawing blood and forcing the human to let him go with an angry, pained yell. Once he was released, Flowey burrowed beneath the ground and Rio started digging at the dirt with his hands, wanting to find and pulverize the plant.

"I'm over here asshole!" Flowey yelled at the other side of the room with a huge, psychotic grin.

"Time to die!" Flowey yelled as suddenly Rio found himself surrounded by glowing white energy pellets that circled around him and began revolving around him quickly, closing in on his location while Flowey laughed maniacally. Suddenly, a fireball appeared out of nowhere and went racing towards Flowey, who swiftly burrowed beneath the ground and appeared elsewhere.

"Ha! Did you think that would work a second time you old-" Flowey said proudly just before he found himself hit with a second fireball directly in the face, uprooting him and sending him flying across the room, causing his "friendliness pellets" to disappear. Not wanting to deal with the angry goat woman again, Flowey burrowed beneath the ground and disappeared.

"I swear one of these days I'm going to have a long talk with that brutish flower." Toriel said with an angry face, watching as Flowey got away. Frisk then appeared behind her, his eyes opening a little, revealing crimson red irises.

"Dad? What are you doing here?" Frisk asked, sounding more surprised then usual. Rio then saw Frisk standing next to the goat woman, holding her hand.

"Francis!" Rio said as he ran over to his son and hugged him tightly. "Son, you're okay!"

"Dad." Frisk said with a slight smile. "Call me Frisk, and you know how I hate gender roles."

Rio tightly embraced Frisk, happier than he's ever been in his entire life, even though he should be mad that Frisk had done something so incredibly reckless as going into Mount Ebott.

"Frisk, you're insane, you know that right? I told you never to go to Mount Ebott!" Rio said, continuing to hug Frisk tightly as he started to cry.

"I know, I guess I'm a pretty lousy kid huh?" Frisk said with a sigh. "I didn't find any treasure yet either, but mom kept me safe while I was here and made sure I was fed and had a place to stay until we could find a safe way out."

Rio finally removed himself from his hug and patted Frisk on the head.

"You're not a bad son, you're a wonderful one. But you're so grounded for this." Rio said happily, Frisk laughed slightly under his breath.

"I know. That's fair." Frisk said as Rio stood up to look at Toriel, who Rio didn't notice was blushing under her fur, her hand over her mouth and a warm smile on her face.

"You're Frisk's father? I'm sorry that your son wound up stuck in our domain, I didn't want him to leave the ruins because the rest of the underground is very dangerous." Toriel said apologetically, Rio didn't seem mad however.

"So you've kept him safe while he was lost here, right? He calls you "mom" too." Rio said as he shook Toriel's hand, Frisk then got annoyed and growled.

"Of course Frisk, sorry. My... child is unique, they don't like it when I call them he or she. They didn't give you too much trouble, right?" Rio said, trying not to use any gender specific titles for Frisk, Toriel nodded her head.

"No, your child is very well behaved and kind, you've done well in raising them." Toriel said.

"I'm Rio by the way, I'm Frisk's father as you could tell." Rio said introducing himself to the monster woman who he didn't seem all that surprised to see.

"I am Toriel, caretaker of the ruins. Welcome to my home." Toriel said, bowing her head slightly.

"You... don't seem all too shocked to see a monster." Toriel asked with slight confusion.

"Well, I think the talking flower shocked me enough for one day." Rio said with a laugh. "Besides, you don't look frightening or terrible, you actually seem very pleasant."

Toriel's face became one of embarrassment as an awkward smile crept up her face. "Oh, why t-thank you human."

Normally such a compliment wouldn't have her acting this way, but she was feeling a little awkward because she knew that she was beginning to feel an attraction to the human, though didn't want to admit it because they come from two seperate worlds and weren't even biologically similar to each other. Trying to distract herself from her naughty thoughts which started to swim through her head, she gestured the human to come along.

"You must be tired, I'll heal your wounds and make us all a nice pot of tea." Toriel said as she lead the human along, helping him navigate through the labyrinth-like ruins.

"That sounds great. I got banged up from a fall, my suspension harness broke and I got banged up trying to get down here. When you say "heal my wounds" though, do you mean to say you're a doctor?" Rio asked Toriel as Frisk followed them quietly.

"A doctor? No, nothing like that. I happen to know some minor healing magic, I can use it to fix your bruises and soreness." Toriel said modestly, Rio was surprised by this though.

"Magic? As in the power of the gods, magic?" Rio asked, Toriel nodded her head.

"Nothing that dramatic, monsters are made up of magic in the same way humans are made of water, or at least that's what I read in a science magazine." Toriel said before they finally came to the entrance of her home. The three stepped inside and Rio was greeted by a home that looked not unlike something from the surface, wooden floors and walls with photographs and paintings on them, a warm fireplace with a large chair and bookshelf, a kitchen and two bedrooms. The one thing that was strangely missing however was a bathroom.

"Wow, you have a really nice house! I really wasn't expecting a place down here to seem so... homey!" Rio said in surprise as Toriel giggled.

"It used to be a summer home for me and my husband to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city." Toriel said, her expression then turned slightly sad. "Before we got divorced that is..."

"Sorry to hear that." Rio said to Toriel, Toriel then laughed and shook her head.

"Don't apologize, that's water under the bridge, me and him are through." Toriel said before heading to the kitchen. "I'll go make some tea, you two relax for a while."

After Toriel left for the kitchen, Rio decided to see what Frisk was doing, he saw him in the bedroom which Toriel let him stay in, sitting down with a sketchpad and drawing something with a mechanical pencil.

"Whatcha drawing sport?" Rio asked as he walked up to Frisk, on the sketchpad was a particularly well drawn picture of Toriel with the title "Mom" written underneath it.

"Wow, you really like Toriel don't you?" Rio asked, Frisk nodded.

"She's the best mom ever, she bakes pies and tells stories and knows all kinds of funny puns and knock knock jokes, and sometimes I cuddle up with her on her chair to nap, her fur is so soft and warm and she's like a big living teddy bear. Her favorite food is snails though which I think is pretty gross, but nobody's perfect. She's much nicer than human mom because she said she cared about me. I wish my human mom cared about me because then we wouldn't be... poor..." Frisk said as he looked over to his dad who's head was hung low and sad.

"Sorry dad." Frisk said apologetically, realizing he upset him.

"Nah, that's alright Frisk, like Toriel said, water under the bridge." Rio said as he sat down next to his son while he continued to draw.

"Hey, you and Toriel should get married, then she could be my REAL mom and maybe I could have a baby brother too! That way we can have a family again, you and Toriel won't be lonely anymore and I could finally have a mom and a dad." Frisk said, Rio's face whitened a bit, he admitted that he liked Toriel, a lot in fact, but she wasn't even human, how could he even think about something like that. Even if he did like her that way, the humans would never allow them to get legally married. He simply sighed.

"Toriel isn't human Frisk, I like her but we're not the same." Rio said.

"So? Just because she's different doesn't mean you can't like her, or even love her. Humans can be stupid when they think that way." Frisk said, a wider smile then normal then spread across his face. "Besides, Toriel likes you a lot."

"H-How can you tell?" Rio asked with a laugh.

"I could tell by the way she's all friendly with you, and the way she talks when you're around, she's just afraid to say anything because your human." Frisk said, noting her slightly sheepish behavior when she first met Rio.

"Hey dad? Do you like Toriel?" Frisk asked, Rio thought about it for a moment, in actuality he really did like Toriel but he wasn't sure if it was love or just friendship, although he did find some of her exotic features and her personality to be strangely attractive. He thought for a moment, and before he could respond he heard Toriel's voice from across the hall.

"Frisk! Rio! Tea's ready!" She called out to them.

"Sweet! Mom probably has some of the leftover pie too! Come on dad, let's go." Frisk said as he took Rio by the hall and lead him along. They went to the dining room where there were three china teacups with saucers and a plate of her pie next to each one along with a bowl of sugar and a creamer, she was pouring the last cup of the golden liquid with one of her dainty, floral patterned teapots when the others walked in.

"Oh, there you are. Come take a seat before it gets cold, I've made your favorite my child, Golden Flower tea with butterscotch and cinnamon pie." Toriel said as she finished pouring the tea and placing the pot in the center of the table. Frisk hopped on to his seat and proceeded to put sugar in his tea and start digging into his meal while Rio sat down in the other seat on the opposite side of Toriel's, tasting the pie which was delicious.

"Wow, I never thought such a creative combination could taste so good." Rio said as he ate, Frisk put another spoonful of sugar in his tea.

"Thank you, I decided to not make a snail pie since humans seem to find snails... unpalatable." Toriel said with a laugh. The three ate there meals and drank tea while they talked about each other for a long time.

"So the surface has many different kingdoms on it?" Toriel asked.

"Well, some kingdoms. Most are countries though, whether they be ruled by presidents or some other official. I come from a place called Peru."

"Wow, and you speak so many languages on the surface too?"

"Hundreds, maybe even thousands. The language we're speaking isn't even my first language."

As they continued on the questions became more personal in nature.

"So that's why Frisk fled to the underground?"

"Yes, he thought there would be treasure here. We're in a bad situation financially and he's afraid we'd lose our home and he'd be taken away from me."

"That's so terrible!"

"I can't say I don't understand how he feels, he's very selfless."

"And your wife, she just up and left you?"

"Yeah..."

"So what happened between you and your husband?"

Toriel grew quiet for a moment and sighed.

"It's a very long and painful story that I don't want to get into at the dinner table, maybe in private."

"I understand, I won't force it out of you."

The conversations went on until they had finished their meal and it was getting close to Frisk's bedtime, or so Rio thought, it was difficult to tell with no sun around.

"I will sleep on the chair tonight, you can have my bed Rio." Toriel said softly.

"You sure?" Rio asked Toriel, she nodded reassuringly.

"It's fine, I like sleeping on the chair anyway. And as for you my child, it's way past your bed time. Time to brush your teeth and go to sleep." Toriel said to Frisk, who nodded and went to the kitchen with his toothbrush. Later that night, Rio slept in her soft bed but awoke from a terrible nightmare, in it he imagined a person, a child cutting Toriel down and watching as she turned to dust. The child turned back to Rio with red glowing eyes.

"Frisk is MY son now, Rio!" The voice said evilly with a wide, fanged grin, awakening Rio from his sleep. He stepped out of the room and checked on Frisk, seeing that he was still sleeping soundly in his bed, gripping onto the pillow with his hands. When Rio went to the hall however, he noticed that Toriel was nowhere to be seen. Feeling worried, he looked throughout the house and found nothing until he finally saw a rope barrier leading to what seemed like the basement of her house, it was like something from a movie theatre and since it was the last place he decided to look, Rio stepped over the barrier and went down to the basement in search of Toriel until he found her, leaning against a large door and sobbing into her hands bitterly. She didn't seem to notice that Rio was there as she cried, but eventually felt his warm hand on her shoulder, comforting her.

"It's okay..." Rio said, and with that Toriel buried her long face in his shoulder and held on to him, crying her lavender eyes out while he hugged her, patting her on the back.

"I'm a terrible mother..." Toriel said between sobs.

"No, that's not true. You're a great mother, Frisk knows it, I know it, don't think that way." Rio said, Toriel sniffed.

"No, I lost two children, I failed to do what any mother should do, I failed to... I failed... to..." Toriel sobbed and continued crying and Rio let her let everything out.

"Shhh..." Rio said as he let her cry into his shoulder, she eventually calmed down a little after a while, the two sitting quietly on the cold floor of the basement while Toriel rubbed the last few tears from her reddened eyes. She sighed in despair.

"A few years ago, I had two sons. One was my biological son, Asriel, the other was a son who I had adopted from the surface named Chara. He fell down here, much like Frisk, but unlike Frisk he came from a broken home, he was... unloved." Toriel said, lowering her head.

"We tried our best to show him all the love we could but it wasn't enough, he was not a bad child, but he was deeply troubled. He had a strong hatred for humans which neither me nor my husband understood, but he was very close to my son Asriel, they were like brothers. One day though, he accidentally poisoned my husband with buttercups, he and Asriel wanted to make him a pie for father's day but they substituted cups of butter for buttercups." Toriel said with a small laugh. "Such a silly mistake."

Rio looked a bit shocked.

"Did you husband...?" He asked fearfully, she nodded no.

"No, he survived, but from that moment my adopted son, Chara, began to act odd and morbid. He was saying it was in his nature to be evil because he was a human, even though we tried to teach him otherwise. Even after Asgore forgave him for his mistake he still continued to go down a very dark path, then one day he grew very ill..." Toriel said as tears became to run down her cheeks again.

"I don't know what kind of illness had come over him, but it was similar to my husband Asgore's though much worse. I suspect he might have... poisoned himself. Why? I don't know, but it was my first failure as a mother." Toriel said, holding onto her knees and curling up against the wall sadly while Rio rubbed her back.

"Then, my son Asriel decided to try and take his body back to the human village where he came from, but the humans thought he had killed Chara. They... they killed him, shot him repeatedly and hit him with things. My son came stumbling back into the throne room, covered with bullet wounds that my magic couldn't heal. He died in my arms and his dust fell over Asgore's garden. It was then that I knew that I truly was a failure of a mother, me and Asgore grew distant since then and he wanted to have revenge on the humans. I wanted no part in his stupid war, so I left him and have lived in the ruins ever since." Toriel explained, silence fell over the long, dark hall before Rio began to speak.

"Toriel, I had no idea you've been through something like that, I'm sorry." Rio said as he hugged her tightly.

"You're not a bad mother, you've done everything you could to save your human child and everything again to save your other child. In the end though, sometimes it isn't enough no matter who you are." Rio said, embracing Toriel who managed a weak smile.

"You're a truly kind man, thank you my l-" Toriel was about to say before she stopped her sentence, Rio looked at her curiously.

"What was that just now?" He asked, Toriel swallowed before reiterating.

"My... love." Toriel said, with slight embarrassment before laughing. "Well then, I guess the cat's out of the bag now."

Rio laughed in response. "More like the goat."

Toriel laughed at Rio's joke.

"Oh, you've goat to be kidding me!" Toriel said, causing Rio to chuckle a little at her odd sense of humor.

"Hey, don't feel baaaad. Whatever floats your goat, right?" Rio said, it seemed that bad puns made Toriel laugh, even if they were juvenile and he wondered if all monsters had a similar sense of humor. The two laughed for a while before Rio decided to speak again.

"You know Toriel, Frisk was talking about how great it would be if we were a family." Rio said, Toriel looked at him a little shocked.

"Surely you're not asking that just now? We only knew each other for a day!" Toriel said nervously, Rio simply laughed.

"No no no! I'm not crazy! But... We could spend time together and get to know each other a little more. Who knows, we might find that we go goat together." Rio said, realizing his slip up a moment later which caused Toriel to quietly laugh.

"I meant GOOD together!" Rio said, Toriel then leaned over and kissed him on the lips. It was a small kiss, but it felt very good, and he soon found himself gushing.

"I would like that my love." Toriel said to him, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug.

"Come on Tori, let's go back to upstairs, it's cold here on the floor." Rio said as he held Toriel's hand and walked upstairs with her.

Rio and Toriel spent at least three months living together with Frisk in the ruins, at this point everyone on the surface probably thought the two of them were dead by now and no doubt his house was gone, but he had a new home with his son and a woman who he had grown to love even though she wasn't human. The three of them did a lot of activities together, Toriel let Frisk play in the leaves, they met up with their neighboring monsters who also lived in the ruins who by this time had grown used to seeing him around and they would often go to the spot in the ruins where Frisk and Rio first arrived, a place where sunlight on occasion could be seen for a single hour of the day when it was directly overhead. Toriel taught Rio how to dance and Rio helped fix things around their new home, and even added a bathroom for himself and Frisk so that they had a spot for when they had "human problems".

"How do I look my love?" Toriel asked as she came out of the bedroom which her and Rio shared, dressed in a pretty yellow sundress with a big straw hat decorated with a ribbon and white flower. Rio nodded in approval, his face reddened somewhat.

"You look beautiful Tori, even more beautiful than usual!" He said, Toriel then giggled and got her picnic basket from the kitchen table, Frisk followed shortly after carrying a bug catching net.

"I'm ready to go mom and dad." Frisk said, he seemed to smile a little more since Rio and Toriel started becoming closer. Today the three were going to have a picnic in the flower patch while the sun was still visible and Frisk was going to catch some bugs, it was a favorite pass time for him in the underground and he particularly liked how some of the bugs he caught glowed like Christmas lights. The three went to the special spot, Frisk was trying to catch a butterfly while Toriel and Rio sat down on a red and white checkered picnic blanket and ate some of the baked goods Toriel had made, she was really a great cook.

"Oh, I also brought this my love, I got it while Muffet was in town." Toriel said as she brought out a bottle of what appeared to be red wine and poured a glass for herself and Rio. They touched their glasses together and took a sip.

"Wow, this stuff's pretty nice, but how do you grow grapes in the underground?" Rio asked, Toriel then laughed.

"What are grapes? This wine is made from monster berries and spider venom, it's her famous Spider Cider." Toriel said before taking a sip. A couple of months ago Rio would've spit it out in disgust but at this point nothing in the underground surprised him, so he just drank it.

"Has a nice kick to it." Rio said.

"Well, spiders DO have eight legs dearest!" Toriel joked. As the day went on they went home, it was Frisk's bed time again and Rio and Toriel spoke with him about their day before he went to sleep.

"Hey mom, dad, IF we ever get back to the surface, could you two finally get married?" Frisk asked.

"Of course my child." Toriel said, kissing him on the cheek.

"And you have to have a nice wedding too, none of those lame "signing a book" sort of things." Frisk said, getting tired.

"Yeah, your mom deserves that." Rio said as Frisk closed his eyes.

"Mom would look very pretty in a wedding dress. So pretty I'D want to marry her!" Frisk said jokingly before he finally started to doze off, Toriel looked a little embarrassed and Rio looked back at her with a smile.

"Good night son." Rio said.

"Child..." Frisk said before going to sleep, and Rio patted his forehead.

"You certainly have an interest child." Toriel said softly to Rio, who kissed her on the lips once again. She leaned her head on his shoulder while he wrapped his arm around her, rubbing her shoulder gently.

"Come on honey." Rio said as the two quietly left Frisk's room, they sat at the dinner table and talked some more for a while about the possibility of getting married and going to the surface before Rio finally had the courage to ask Toriel about a question that had been running through his head for over a month.

"Toriel, we've been seeing each other for over three months now, we're even talking about eventually getting married. The truth is, I've never felt this way about anyone else before now, even my first wife." Rio said, Toriel was hanging on to each word he spoke.

"Go on..." She said, urging him to continue.

"What I'm trying to ask is, do you... want to get intimate tonight?" Rio asked, expecting a no from Toriel however.

"You mean you want to have sex?" Toriel asked, clarifying the question, Rio nodded.

"Yes, you're beautiful and I find you incredibly attractive. But all this romance without physical contact, it's starting to get a little stressful." Rio said, Toriel placed her warm hands over Rio's and smiled.

"Rio, I would love to be with you tonight. We do share a bed after all, and I know that you and I both have needs which need to be satisfied." Toriel said with a blush, her eyelids lowered a little as she started to act a little seductive.

"The truth is, I've wanted you to screw me hard the moment I saw you." Toriel said, Rio was taken back a little by Toriel's blunt language which contrasted with her normally polite and proper mannerisms.

"My love, let's go to bed, right now! You can't believe how badly I want this!" Toriel said with a wide, excited grin on her face before she took Rio by the land and dragged him up from his seat, taking him by surprise. They went towards their bedroom and suddenly Rio swept her up off of her feet bridal style, making her gasp and then laugh as they made their way inside. Placing her back down on her feet, he stared eye to eye with Toriel, his crimson eyes meeting with her purple ones. Rio and Toriel were alone now, Frisk was asleep in bed and they had the room to themselves, they looked each other and approached. Toriel placed her arms around Rio's shoulders while he placed his around her hips, resting his hands on her lower back, they stared at each other for a while before closing their eyes and leaning forward, bringing each other into a deep yet gentle kiss. They kissed for a while before finally moving apart briefly, Toriel's white furred face flushed with a shade of pink.

"You're beautiful." Rio said to Toriel before kissing her again.

"Thank you, you're a wonderful man Rio." Toriel said to him as the two gave each other small kisses, their hands wandering around each other's bodies until Toriel's hand cupped against Rio's groin, making him twitch slightly.

"Are you ready?" Rio asked with a smile, Toriel nodded and smiled back.

"Y-Yes, it's been a while since I was with another man and it's been so lonely in the ruins. Would you like to?" Toriel asked with a slight bit of nervousness in her voice, having been untouched for at least several years. Rio smiled and kissed her again, placing his hands on her upper thighs and rubbing them up and down, making Toriel gasp.

"It's been a while for me to. Yes, let's do it." Rio said as he cupped his hands around Toriel's plump buttocks, making her jump slightly and gasp. Toriel started unbuttoning Rio's shirt while he lifted her skirt and began to remove her clothes, they removed piece after piece until they were down to their undergarments. Toriel placed her thumbs into Rio's boxers and pulled them down, revealing his 8 inch and fully erect human member while he undid her bra, removing it and releasing her well formed, white furred breasts. Toriel pulled down her underwear and kicked them off onto the floor, her moist womanhood meeting with the warm air of the bedroom.

"Do you like what you see my love?" Toriel asked as she traced her finger along Rio's bare chest. Rio kissed her.

"I love it, your fur is so soft, and those boobs are amazing." Rio said as he cupped one of her breasts in his hand, making her swoon a little.

"You know, you're pretty... gifted." Toriel said, rubbing a single finger across the head of Rio's penis and causing him to twitch, Toriel then took him by the hand and lead him over to her very large bed, pushing him onto it and crawling over him so they were face to face.

"You know, I don't think I've ever had a moment like this with my ex-wife, this really feels special." Rio said as he kissed her softly.

"This is very special Rio, I'm glad that I get to spend this time with an amazing person like you." Toriel said as she then started to kiss his shoulder, then chest. She kissed his abdomen next and continued to lower herself down to his crotch, becoming face to face with it.

"So you want to start with foreplay?" Rio asked, Toriel smiled and then gripped onto his member, tugging the foreskin down until the head of his penis was fully exposed, making him hiss in slight discomfort.

"Yes, the night's young, we have lots of time to spend with each other." Toriel said as she then started to tug on his member slowly, making him squirm a little.

"Mmm..." Rio moaned quietly as Toriel began to increase her speed, jerking him off, their eyes never breaking contact.

"Does this feel good?" Toriel asked, her eyes filled with a mixture of love and lust and her face flushed with a shade of pink around her muzzle and the tips of her long ears.

"Yeah." Rio quietly moaned as he enjoyed the feeling of Toriel stroking his manhood. Toriel then leaned her head forward and licked the exposed head of his penis, making him moan loudly while she continued to jerk him. She licked a few more times, swirling her tongue around his member before finally opening her mouth and placing it inside. The warmth and moisture of her mouth felt incredible as she moved her head up and down on his penis, using her tongue to play with his glans while at the same time swiftly pumping his meat in her hand. Rio threw his head back and moaned loudly, the blowjob he was receiving was far better than anything he had ever received before and he felt that he would not last much longer. Toriel closed her eyes and continued her work with her mouth and hand, pumping him while at the same time sucking him off. A few minutes later Rio began to feel pressure building in his loins, and he knew he couldn't hold on much longer.

"T-Tori, I'm gonna cum. Oh..." Rio moaned the warning to allow Toriel to prepare herself, but in response she gripped his penis firmly and brought it further into her mouth. Rio moaned loudly and ejaculated, releasing his human seed into her mouth and down her throat, allowing her to swallow every drop of it. She took his member out of her mouth, licking any excess seed along the way. Rio looked at her lustfully after his orgasm had finally subsided, not expecting such a motherly woman to give such wonderful head. Toriel smiled at him with a small laugh.

"Oh come now my love, did you really think this was the first time I've done this?" Toriel said before laying on her back on the opposite side of the bed, spreading her legs and showing Rio her soaking wet pussy.

"It's my turn now, come over dear." Toriel said, rubbing her fingers along the moist lips of her vagina, smiling at him with bedroom eyes. Rio sat up and leaned forward, moving over her and kissing her, he then brought his head down to her large breasts. He cupped one in his hand while he gently suckled the other, the firm nipple tensing as he licked and nibbled on it. Toriel moaned in delight as he did this, and his hand wandered between her legs and he began to play with her, giving her a taste of what's to come. With his thumb he gently rubbed her clitoris while his middle and pointer fingers rubbed along her slit, making her moan loudly. Rio then inserted his fingers into Toriel, rubbing them along her vaginal walls and getting a feel of what she had in store for him, Toriel moaned and shut her eyes tightly as Rio fingered her.

"Oh Rio! Don't tease me any more!" Toriel begged as Rio finally placed both his arms on her hip and brought his head to her womanhood. Toriel looked at Rio with pleading eyes, waiting in painful anticipation for her human to start his work and surely enough he began to lick her clitoris, causing her to gasp in pleasure.

"R-Rio!" Toriel said as he began to lick her clit and labia before finally inserting his tongue into her, licking her insides and eating her out. Toriel's mouth hung open and her eyes were half open, staring upward at nothing in particular while she moaned and panted, her insides being thoroughly licked and pleasured by her human partner.

"Oh! Ahhhh..." Toriel moaned, grasping Rio's shoulder length brown hair and nearly forcing him to work harder to get her off for the first time in years.

"Mmmm!" Toriel moaned and shut her eyes tightly, getting lost in the pleasure. By this time, her moans of pleasure and the taste of her sweet nectar were enough to make Rio hard again, in fact he was even harder than before and he worked twice as hard to give Toriel the pleasure she wanted.

"Mmmmm!" Toriel moaned louder, feeling her stomach begin to tense up as her orgasm approached.

"Rio! Ahhh!" Toriel moaned one last time before she finally came, her orgasm washing over her like a tidal wave as she began to squirt her feminine juices over Rio's chin and mouth. She moaned again and again as she came, but she didn't feel that the night was over yet, in fact she felt that it had only just begun. Wiping his mouth and face off, Rio enjoyed the taste of his exotic lover and knelt in front of Toriel, who looked up at him with a somewhat goofy, horny smile.

"Oh... That was incredible!" Toriel said with a gasp, she lifted one leg and placed in on Rio's shoulder while he held onto her other, spreading them and allowing access to her now very sensitive vagina.

"Take me my love, I'm ready for this!" Toriel pleaded, Rio smiled.

"I'm way ahead of you Tori." Rio said as he began to position his throbbing member at her entrance, the heat from her warming his tip.

"Are you ready?" Rio asked Toriel, who nodded in response.

"I've been waiting for this moment for years, I'm yours." Toriel said warmly, smiling lovingly at Rio who was above her. Rio then moved forward, pressing his penis against Toriel's vagina, the lips spreading and inviting the human inside of her, she gasped as she felt herself being filled for the first time in a long time, Rio's hot shaft pushing further and further into her and setting her nerves on fire with pleasure.

"Ohh..." Toriel moaned as Rio finally plunged into her as far as he could go, the warmth and moisture of her insides reminding Rio of the jungles of his continent. Now fully inside of her, Rio then began to move back and forth, slowly at first but then gradually picking up speed, the texture of her insides being soft and moist, causing Toriel to moan loudly in ecstacy with each thrust as Rio mated with her.

"Ah! Ohhh! Rio!" Toriel moaned as the human thrust inside of her. The two lovers went at it for several minutes before Toriel finally reached her second orgasm of the night. Rio on the other hand was far from done, he was determined to make Toriel get off in as many positions as he could manage before finally finishing. Rio removed his member from her, making Toriel seem briefly disappointed that he stopped.

"Let's try another position." Rio said as he prompted Toriel to get on her hands and knees, her plump behind facing towards Rio and ready for more. Placing his hands on her wide butt, he inserted himself into her once again, this time doggy style. Toriel moaned and looked back at the human behind her with a pleasured look on her face, her tongue inadvertently hanging out of her mouth while he continued to thrust into her harder than before, swiftly moving his member in and out of her like a piston, the room being filled with the sounds of their moaning, the slapping of skin against fur and the rhythmic squeaking of Toriel's bed as the two continued to go at it for another several minutes.

"Oh! Oh!! Ahhhh! It's happening again!" Toriel moaned as she felt herself on her third orgasm for the night, her vaginal walls clenching around Rio and squeezing him like a vice, squirting her lady fluids onto his hips, some of which dripped onto the sheets below. It took every ounce of strength and determination Rio had, but he preventing himself from ejaculating, even though he felt almost as though he had an orgasm as pleasure wafting through his body. As Toriel finished her third orgasm, she became slightly frustrated that Rio still hasn't came yet and decided that it was now her turn to finally get him off. Turning around to face him, she hopped onto the human with a playful growl.

"Wahh! Tori!" Rio said with a laugh as she placed her hands firmly on his shoulders and straddled him, not wanting him to escape (as if he actually wanted to). She leaned down and kissed him passionately.

"Alright you naughty human, it's time I finish you off." Toriel said seductively, she then grabbed a hold of Rio's still hardened penis and pointed it upwards, positioning it towards her womanhood. Toriel then lowered herself onto his shaft, bringing it completely into her with a single movement and causing Rio to moan in reaction. The position Toriel was in was his favorite, and he knew he wouldn't last forever with her in control, but he wanted to get her off one last time for the night. Toriel placed her hands on his stomach and began to raise and lower herself onto his shaft, her walls squeezing and tugging on his member with each movement, inciting a moan from Rio and herself. Rio looked up at Toriel, who was looking into his eyes lovingly as she rode him, she was specifically focusing on his sensitive glans to get him off the quickest and with the most mind blowing results. Rio placed his hand on one of her left wrist, removing her hand from his belly and holding it as she continued to make love to him, his human fingers between her furry monster digits. Toriel liked the loving attention and she began to pick up speed, tightening her grip on his hand while she did everything in her power to make the night end in a bang.

"Ah! Ahh! Ca-Rio!" Toriel moaned loudly as she began to feel herself getting closer to release one last time, her eyes began to fill with moisture from the passion and emotion and she soon realized she was getting teary eyed and that what they were doing was more than just a lustful encounter. Rio felt himself finally starting to get close, Toriel's teary eyes, her voice moaning in desperation for release and the hard work she was putting into pleasuring him was finally getting Rio to release, but not before her. With louder and louder moans from the two lovers Rio then leaned up and brought Toriel into a the deepest kiss he could just as the two of them reached orgasm at the same time, Toriel's tears finally escaping her eyes and rolling down her fuzzy cheek. Rio released his human seed deep into her monster womb while she pulsed with pleasure, releasing herself onto his lap one final time. Rio never broke the kiss until the two were finally finished, his member finally going limp as she pulled herself off of him and laid down beside him, panting in exhaustion and pleasure. Toriel pulled the duvet of her bed over the two of them and snuggled in close to him, resting her arm over his chest.

"That, that was amazing my love." Toriel said in a near whisper with mostly closed eyes, wrapping his arm around her shoulder Rio gave her a kiss on her nose.

"Boop!" He said playfully, making Toriel laugh.

"You were incredible Tori." Rio said as he rubbed her shoulder. "You know, Frisk is right, you would make a wonderful mom for her."

Toriel sighed.

"I think it's a little early to be talking about such a thing, but it is definitely something to consider... when we return to the surface." Toriel said to Rio, closing her eyes. "Goodnight love."

Rio pulled her in closer, her warm body cuddling him.

"Night Tori." He said as the two drifted to sleep.

The next day, Frisk, Rio and Toriel were packing their bags with whatever possessions they could as they prepared to finally head out of the ruins.

"I don't know if this is a good idea Rio." Toriel said as she put on a blue, fuzzy coat and tied a plaid scarf around her neck. "While not all of the monsters are dangerous there are some who are willing to harm you and even Frisk, we shouldn't risk it."

Rio had dressed himself with only his brown leather jacket and cowboy hat while he had helped Frisk get on some warm clothes which Toriel demanded he wear if they were to make a trek across the cold plains beyond the ruins. Frisk was wearing a blue jacket with a magenta scarf which matched his shirt and a red beanie hat and the girliest fuzzy pink earmuffs he could find.

"Jeez kid, could you have possibly picked something more feminine?" Rio said sarcastically while Frisk blew a raspberry at him.

"Rio." Toriel nagged while putting on a red and white polka dot babushka to cover her head and ears and a pair of red mittens. "I'm being serious."

"Don't worry Tori, I'll make sure nothing bad happens to me OR Frisk!" Rio said confidently. "Trust me, you deserve better than to spend the rest of your life down here, you deserve to see the surface, maybe everyone will get to go home."

Toriel sighed and smiled at him brightly. "I trust you, but we must be careful."

The three headed to the door in the basement, and with the use of a magic spell by Toriel the door opened on it's own.

"Well, here goes nothing." Toriel said nervously. "I'll try and keep the other monsters from attacking you, but I can't guarantee they won't try anything, some of them can be quite brazen."

"If it comes to that I'll give them a good clock, that should keep 'em in line." Rio sound, smacking his fist into the palm of his hands, but Frisk shook his head at Rio.

"No, we shouldn't use violence, trust me." Frisk said before turning to face Toriel. "Trust me too mom, everyone will go back to the surface."

The three then walked through the door together, ready to break the seal of the underground and go back to the surface together and to a new life, somehow.
