Aura stepped out of the square and sighed, watching as a group of children played around the statue at its center. Sam walked beside her and nuzzled her.

“What's wrong?" He asked her

“Nothing, it's… Just… How do you feel about kids?"

Sam was shocked at the question. “I want to have them"

She looked over at him, her eyes wide. “When?"

“I don't know, nor do I care when. I will be happy whenever it happens." He rubbed against her neck.

“How about as soon as possible?" Aura cringed, ready for the rejection.

“Sure!" Sam kissed her cheek

“Sure? You mean yes! You want to do have kids this year?" Aura gasped.

Michael walked out of his house and froze at the last sentence.

“Oh god, here comes another egg year." He groaned “Now everybody's going to want kids."

“You think this would cause an egg year?" Aura asked

“Definitely, my weight in gold bets that Spyro and Cynder are next." He chuckled “I'm glad you were able to catch this one, you decided quick."

“Catch? Aren't we causing?" Sam cut in

“I'm pretty sure that there would be one anyway, I heard that Layla really wants kids as well, I think Nebula started it because she decided she wanted kids immediately." Michael laughed “Also, there is a high number of dragons throughout the dimension planning for kids."

“Michael!" Peri called “Jade laid! Come quick!"

Michael smirked “Maybe she caused it, they happen about every five years."

He followed the green dragon into an alley. Aura smiled at Sam.

“That's going to be us soon." She cooed

He beamed back at her. “Can't wait"

She flushed suddenly, then ran back into the house, dragging Sam with her.

Spyro woke up and looked around, it was afternoon, and Cynder had eaten the bowl he had left for her. He smiled and looked at her sleeping face, then checked her bandages. They were red, her wounds had opened during her sleep. He leaned over and licked her cheek, when she didn't move, he did it again. After a few more licks Cynder smiled and opened her eyes. He got up and found some fresh bandages, Cynder shivered at his absence and called to him, he looked over and smiled.

“What is it? Are you hungry? You want me to go get something?" He asked her

“I'm cold, come back here." She replied.

“First, we need to change your bandages, then you need to stretch and go to the bathroom. After you do that, I will bring some food and we can eat and relax here." She told him.

She sighed and got up, he carefully removed the old bandages and added some new ones.

“You need to relax; you reopened your wounds while you were sleeping." He told her

“Or maybe when I got up and went to the study." She replied sheepishly “While you were gone."

He gave her a scolding look. “I know that you think your fine since you were able to come to the academy yesterday, but Bea's magic has worn off, and you need to relax."

She raised her paws defensively “Okay, okay."

“What were you doing anyway?" He asked her

“Just writing a letter to Jasper and Samantha" Cynder explained

Spyro nodded, and stepped back. “Alright, you do your thing, and I will cook some food."

Cynder did as she was told, while Spyro pulled together a large meal of random food that they had, and brought it into the room. He heard a knock on the door, and answered it to find Michael waiting for him.

“Jade laid her egg, just wanted to let you know, it's green, of course." He told him, then turned and left.

Spyro watched the black dragon walk back into his house and close the door.

“He is so weird sometimes." He mumbled to himself.

Spyro watched as a dragon walked into the square, read from a piece of paper, and looked over at him.

“Your Spyro, right? The purple dragon?" The dragon asked him.

“The only purple dragon I know of." Spyro replied

The dragon smiled and pulled a box out from behind him and set it in front of him.

“These are furs, compliments of the queen of Warfang." He told Spyro

“Ember? Why did she give us these?" Spyro asked

The dragon shrugged “They received them as a tribute, thought you might want them for nesting in the future."

Spyro blushed “Oh, okay then."

The dragon nodded and left, Spyro watched him go with a strange expression. Then brought the box in and put it in the nest room.

“What was that?" Cynder asked

“Furs, from Ember, for a nest." Spyro answered

She blushed, and smiled “Cool"

“Also, Jade laid her egg." Spyro replied

“Aww, nice" Cynder yawned “I'm happy for her."

They settled back into their bed and ate their meal, then settled back to sleep.

Michael woke Spyro up by knocking on their door.

“Hey." He called “You're going to be late!"

Spyro carefully got up, nuzzling Cynder when she groaned and resettled herself. Then rushed out of the house and into the air. They both landed back in the academy and settled into their seats on the instructor's platform.

“This is the last day of group training, tomorrow you will need to watch them individually." Michael told him.

Spyro nodded and watched the group walk back into the training grounds. Spyro spotted Josh and watched as he picked up a sword and immediately began flipping it around in his jaw.

“I think I may have already made my decision." Volteer stated

“Already? Boy are you speedy with everything." Cyril laughed

“That boy there, Josh, already shows key leadership skills, as well as a complete control over his powers." Volteer replied

“Of course, you chose the one with the boosted element." Cyril replied, rolling his eyes.

Spyro turned back to the grounds, ignoring the conversing guardians. He noticed a group of children appear off in the stands, led by a few adults. Spyro noticed a large number of black ones, as well as Storm, Ray, and Sammy, watching the trainees below. Spyro watched as Mary walked onto the stands and started talking to the children. Spyro turned to Michael.

“What's going on there?" He pointed

“The training of guardians is a rare occurrence, and Mary has taken up teaching recently. You can go talk to them if you want, it's not like you need to keep watching unless you want to see a specific person fight a specific element." Michael answered.

Spyro flew off of the platform and walked onto the stands. Grace watched him and smiled when she realized what he was doing. He snuck around to the back of the group while they were focused on Mary.

“The training of guardians only happens once every couple thousand years. These are the Genrir guardians, and they have decided to move the event here because their temple was destroyed. Now we get the privilege to watch them train, and we get to learn how the selection process works as we spend the next three days watching them train their successors one on one." Mary told them. “Now, watch as they spar, these dragons are the best of their elements, and one of each will become the next guardian."

Mary smiled at Spyro, and Storm followed her gaze to the purple dragon. She brightened and waved at him. Spyro waved back, waiting patiently for someone to notice him. That someone happened to be a turquoise dragoness who gasped when she glanced behind her.

“Hey! It's Spyro!" She called

The whole class turned around and gasped.

“Class, Spyro here has been tasked with selecting the next fire guardian." Mary told them.

“Can it be me?" A young orange dragon called.

Spyro chuckled “Sadly, your too young right now."

“Awww" The orange dragon replied

They bombarded Spyro with questions about his selection process and what he was looking for. Then Mary called the class to look back at the training dragons.

“He's my cousin." Spyro heard Ray say to somebody next to him.

“No way, that's so cool."

Spyro smiled, and looked over at Mary.

“How you been?" He asked her.

“Good, I quit my job after what happened with the Triad king, so I started working here. Jake's been training some pilots at the docks." Mary answered “And what about you? Where's Cynder?"

“She was injured in a fight, but she's fine, just resting back home. We were in another dimension for a few weeks, fighting something called a void plague." Spyro told her

Her face fell. “A void plague, so close to here?"

“Yeah, it was bad, but we defeated it." Spyro replied

Mary looked worried, but shook her head and smiled again.

“The kids won't stop asking about you." She told him, then suddenly looked worried “You look exhausted."

“Yours or all of them?" Spyro asked

“All of them." Mary replied “They want to know everything about the purple king of elemental dragons, it's so cute."

Spyro laughed “And what did you tell them?"

“Not too much, just the basic story, and a few little details to keep them satisfied." Mary looked over at the kids.

“I should write a book." Spyro stated

“You should, you should also ask Michael about how to do that."

“Michael writes books?"

“He's written more books than Volteer could read in a thousand lifetimes." Mary chuckled

Spyro's jaw dropped “I'm going to have to read some of his."

“You already have, all of the spellbooks in your house were his."

He laughed “Really?"

“Yeah, he studied everything. He has written a dossier for every species he has ever come in contact with, and written a complete collection for every magic in existence." Mary replied.

Spyro nodded, then said his goodbyes to the kids, and returned to the platform. He watched the fire dragons carefully for the rest of the session, and when it ended, he walked out and called them together.

“I would like to thank you all for trying your best out here the last few days, but things are going to change. I will be spending a solid amount of time with each one of you only once in the next three days, not only testing your strength but your cunning, agility, smarts, and leadership abilities. Tomorrow only four of you will be needed here, you may choose which of you want to go first. You will meet me outside of the personal dojo, and only one of you will enter at a time."

The nodded and dispersed, walking back to the barracks. Josh walked up to him and greeted him.

“Hey, you look tired."

Spyro smiled “Yeah, I haven't been sleeping too well the last few days, I worry for Cynder, but its alright, I'll be fine."

Grace landed beside Josh and curled her tail around his.

“How's the selection going?" She asked

“I have it narrowed to at least three, but it's hard to rule out anybody just yet." He answered

Grace nodded, watching the rest of the trainees walk away.

“How do you guys like Faun?" Spyro asked

“It's pretty cool, we are planning our ceremony for tomorrow." She told him

“Oh, congrats. Are you doing a private one?" Spyro replied

“Yeah, Trice and another friend are going to be our witnesses." Josh answered

Spyro nodded, “Cynder will be happy to hear that."

A dragoness called Grace's name.

“Oh, we have a double date planned for later, bye." She smiled and grabbed Josh and ran towards the voice.

Spyro chuckled, and walked back to the academy gate. He took flight and flew over to the market, landing in one of its squares. He walked down the stalls and found what he was looking for; a nice box of sweets and a bouquet of flowers. He also picked out an amethyst necklace wrapped in gold. The gem was large and Spyro knew that she would love it. He took his gifts and flew back to the house. When he landed Michael noticed what he bought and laughed, shaking his head.

“What? Did I get the wrong thing?" He asked

“No, but you have been taking care of her for the last few days, and now you're going to get her that, she's not going to be happy." Michael chuckled “Females"

Spyro gave him a confused look.

“Will she not like it?"

“She will like it, but like I said, you have been taking extreme care of Cynder, doing everything for her, and now you're giving her a gift like it's been the other way around."

“So, what should I do?"

“It's too late now." Michael laughed, then vanished.

Spyro blinked, and walked into the house. He walked into the bedroom and found Cynder reading a book by candlelight. Spyro was stunned, and stared at her for a moment, before she looked up and smiled.

“Hi sweetie, how was the training?" She asked

“Good, tomorrow we start doing the one on one." He told her

Cynder nodded, Spyro pulled out the gifts and she gasped.

“What?" She mumbled

“I wanted to get you some things." He told her.

“You really didn't have to; you already have done so much recently." Tears formed in her eyes “I don't deserve this; I don't deserve you."

Spyro's face fell. “Why do you keep saying that? You love me, you deserve everything that I do for you."

Cynder started crying. “But I did such bad things, and now you take care of me unconditionally, and still think of ways to make me happy even though all you have been doing is help me. I can't even prove myself; you beat me to it before I can even think."

Spyro nuzzled her. “I don't care about that, we are here, you don't need to prove yourself, not to me, not to anyone. As long as you love me, you deserve everything I do for you and more."

He cupped her snout in his paws, and kissed her.

“Please stop saying things like that, I beg you." He added

She kissed him back, then pulled back and smiled. “Another bit of jewelry, I love it."

She took her choker off and put the new necklace on. She then grabbed the box of sweets and opened it, exposing a collection of various chocolates. She popped one of them into her mouth and smiled again.

“They're delicious, thank you"

Spyro kissed her again “Your welcome, I always think of ways that I can help you"

Cynder set her book down and looked up at him, a shy look on her face. “I talked with Aura today."

“Oh, about?" Spyro absently replied, setting Cynder's choker in her jewelry box.

“Kids." Cynder answered, blushing.

Spyro nearly fell over. “What about them?"

“They decided that they wanted to have them on their next season." Cynder replied sheepishly “Just like I do."

Spyro froze, and looked over at her with a massive smile on his face.

“What? Say something!" Cynder yelled at him.

“Your ready?" He asked

“Yeah" Cynder replied, giving him a confused look. “Are you?"

“I've been, for a long time." He smiled.

Cynder gasped and leapt forward, forgetting her injuries to lose herself in her mate's embrace.

“Whoa, we still have to travel to Providence and bring our parents back first." He told her “We still have time."

Cynder leaned back and sighed. “I can't wait."

“Have you ever heard of an egg year?" Spyro asked her

“No, what's that?"

“It's a year where large groups of dragons decide to lay eggs, I think Michael is expecting one this year."

“Really, that would make us, Aura, Nebula, and who else?"

“Layla, I think, and probably Ember as well, she did send us those furs, I think she's been thinking about it." Spyro answered

“Layla and Camry's are going to be sooo cute." Cynder squealed

“Imagine ours." Spyro smiled

“That's what I've been doing, like, nonstop. Little black ones, red ones, pink ones, running around."

“I hope they all get your beauty." Spyro licked her cheek.

Cynder blushed again, and chuckled. “I hope they get your personality."

Spyro laughed, then yawned, Cynder looked over to him.

“How much sleep did you get last night?"

“None"

“WHAT? Why aren't you sleeping?"

“I worry about you too much, what if you opened your wounds accidently while you slept?"

“Spyro, now I worry about you. Go to sleep, and stay that way, NOW!"

Spyro laid around her, snuggling close to her head. Cynder laid her head down next to him and fell asleep.
