“Thanks for the ride,” says Ivy as she gives the taxicab driver a tip. The two-toned red fire shark with strong amber eyes and flowing red hair turns towards the rundown apartment complex. Dressed in a military uniform, and with a green duffle bag tossed over her shoulder as she takes a deep breath, “I’ve been gone for four years and this is the last address he gave me. I wonder if he’s still even here?” she thinks as she goes inside.

The apartment complex has seen better days and even those days were long ago. Grunge looking tenants pass her well-kept and toned body. She simply walks by them towards the elevator which has a ‘out of order’ sign on it and below it scribbled the words “forever”.

“I should have called and let them know I was coming… But what if he doesn’t remember me? Probably be for the best though. He loves that other girl. She’s everything I couldn’t be. Sweet, kind, a gentle person who needs protection, and even his own species. How could I compete with that? I couldn’t just butt in, if only I said something sooner, or went to the beach with him that day things would have been different,” Ivy thinks as she continues up the flight of stairs. Her heavy boots tapping hard on the metal stairs.

“No, I would have been just a third wheel. If I’d stayed I couldn’t have ruined a good thing with him and her. How am I to judge what’s best for him? And her? She took him away from me but… not like she purposely did it. She lost everything, I… why am I thinking about this? Why am I even here? If I haven’t heard from them it's because they moved on… yet I’m here.”

Ivy makes her way to the floor of her friend; she opens the door to the worn down hallway with chipping paint and peeling wallpaper. A third of the lights aren’t even working as she makes it towards the door down the hall. Each step adding weight to her body, her heart pounding faster as she takes slow deep breaths.

“No, I will not give in. I am better than that. He’s happy with her and that is what is important. His happiness is everything to me. What kind of person would I be if I jeopardize it? Not the person I want to be. Then why am I here? Ivy Cross why are you here visiting him and his girl? You know the mere sight of her is going to fill you with rage. A reminder of… my own failure. Tell me Ivy, why are you here? You know seeing him with her and what that will do. You left so he could be happy, so you could get away, and now you are selfish enough to ruin all of that by paying a visit.”

Ivy closes her eyes as she turns towards the door as she continues to think just as she raises her hand to knock, “Why am I here then? Because no matter how much it hurts to see him. No matter how I feel when I see her. I love him. I want to see him happy above everything else and… I want to be there to see it happen,” she thinks as she feels a plastic hit against her knuckles as she knocks.

“Huh?” she remarks as she opens her eyes and sees police tape criss crossing the door. A cold chill runs down her spine, freezing her tail in place as she reaches for the door handle and finds the door is locked.

“No, no, no. Mizu…” she says softly as she takes a step back and with one heavy kick breaks open the door. With a quick glance down the hallway she makes her way inside, closing the best she can the now busted door behind her.

The smell of rotten food his her nostrils causing them to flair as she sees a pair of gold groceries on the counter. Her eyes dart around as she takes in the scene, broken glass still lies across the floor as a warm breeze from the summer’s air blows into the room. Stepping deeper in she catches signs of a struggle. Thrown photographs all over the place. Reaching down she picks one up, a picture of Mizu and Sri’iea at the beach. Ivy grips the broken picture tightly as her hand shakes. She looks up and looks around as she places the photograph off to the side before heading into the bedroom where she sees the broken window.

“Glass is on the inside… whatever happened they came in and attacked from several floors up with no fire escape… Whoever did this is going to pay,” remarks as Ivy pulls out a cell phone and quickly calls a contact.

“Hey it’s me, I have a job for you. I want you to out anything and everything you can about Mizu Rose…. Yes I know it won’t be easy. Give me everything you can, e-mails, anything you can find and I want it done as soon as possible… good,” Ivy says as she hangs up the phone.

For the next month Ivy was a shark on a mission, a quest, to get to the bottom of what happened, but that was far more difficult than what she initially expected. Even with her contacts please reports said practically nothing about the break in. Chalking it up to drugs or something related to the sort. Mizu Rose was after all a nobody and in life the world does not care about nobody but to Ivy, Mizu was not a nobody he is a somebody, a piece of her world that she’s hidden away in a drawer, but now that he’s missing?

“How could he just disappear!” screams Ivy from a rented out flat. Papers lay all over the place, a billboard with pinned up notes, sticky notes and scribblings of information, thoughts and ideas, a jungle of thoughts.

“What’s worse it's not like he disappeared too, she did as well! Did they fake it and run off somewhere?” Ivy says as she paces back and forth, her mind racing a mile a minute as her tail flicks.

“Maybe they ran away together, to get away from it all… but that doesn’t make sense. Neither seem like the type… but. Could this be my fault? Maybe if I didn’t run away. If I was there to be the friend I was supposed to be this wouldn’t of happened. For so long we had just each other and the first sign he found happiness I split. How could I be so stupid!” she screams as she picks up and throws the TV remote causing it to flicker on.

“Social unrest abroad continues to be on the rise. Foreign governments continue to blame company’s like S. Tech, a supplier of bio rubber drones and military grade weapons as sources for their problems. They claim that the cybernetic super soldiers made by S. Tech are used illegally within their borders to cause problems for them to be solved. S. Tech’s CEO Sheeza Soulscar who has yet to make a public appearance after the attack made on her life six months ago had this to say…”

“S. Tech? Why does that sound so familiar….” Ivy remarks as she starts to comb through her papers till she lands upon the one she’s looking for. An email from an S. Tech recruiter wanting to meet with Mizu for an interview.

“Maybe…” she remarks to herself as she rushes to her computer and starts to search for anything and everything about the company. As she searched she came across blurred and hazy images, most of them just caches of the original image, “It's like all important information about the company is no longer around. Images about these cybernetic things are blurred, limited. I’ve heard about these things near the end of the time, these MQ units. What if Mizu discovered something during the interview? It seems he disappeared around that time… why has no one put this together yet?” she remarks as she continues to browse eventually stopping on one of the few ‘official release’ images of MQ units, shown off as “Defenders of World Peace”

“No…” she says as she sees an image of MQ-7. A sleek black and blue cybernetic sergal, described as a ‘volunteer criminal’ and nothing else. But as Ivy stared closely at the image, the soft blue and black fur, she’d recognize that arm and hand anywhere, “What did they do to you Mizu? A volunteer criminal? Hardly… that other one next to him. MQ-8. That all metal wonder… that thing must of done something, must have been the one that attacked him and turned him into that thing he is now. But how am I going to get him and that thing away… and where?” she asks herself as she starts a new search, and over the next several days a plan starts to formulate.

Down in the underbelly of the city down an alleyway and down a set of stairs is a shop known to only those who know not even to speak of it. A shop known only those who already know of it and can only be found only if you already know where it is.

A turtle behind a thick metal door opens a thin slot and peaks through, “What’s the password?” he asks as he looks into Ivy’s amber eyes. He eyes the unfamiliar face as she gives a toothy grin before kicking the door open pinning the turtle behind the door and the wall. Three guards rush to the door and but stop in their tracks when they see the shark holding a grenade in her hand, pin pulled as it dangles from her sharp shark teeth.

“I’m here to speak with the shopkeeper. I have some business with him.”

“What makes you think you can barge in here and speak with the shopkeeper unannounced and live?” asks one of the guards, a buff Tiger who keeps his weapon trained on her.

“Because this grenade is set to blow the moment I release it and packed with specialized high grade explosives that will blow this entire shop up including yourselves. Now if you don’t want the establishment to be blown sky high, I will want to speak with him to make some purchases.”

“What kind of purchases would you like to make?” asks a female voice. Ivy glances over and sees a well-dressed anthropomorphic blue jay step into the room.

“M’lady please stay back its dang--,” warns the Tiger before she holds up her hand.

“I’m sorry who makes decisions here?”

“You do M’lady.”

“Then why did you feel it necessary to tell me what to do?”

“I’m sorry M’lady I meant nothing by it.”

“If you weren’t so good at your job I’d have you castrated on the spot. Now… when a lady comes in here with such gusto and determination, managing to even break down my expensive door… next time I’ll get one resistant to acid,” she states as she looks at the melted down locks of the door, “Tell me what you need.”

“I need an arsenal big enough for a one woman army to start and finish a way in a single day.”

“Quite a tall order, what country are you planning to invade?”

“I’m not planning to invade, I am going to make them come to me.”

“And who is this?”

“The S. Tech MQ units,” she states with a toothy grin.

The blue jay lets out a laugh, “You’re going to need a lot of fun toys…” the blue jay replies with a grin.

Several more days pass as Ivy prepares for coming battle. An old abandoned mining town several hours outside of the city was the perfect place for this show down. A showdown that she had to win, the only problem left was how to get S. Tech to send someone and better yet how to get them to send MQ-7 and MQ-8? It was a simple plan, one she hoped would work but doubted it would. She sent an encrypted email to the company stating this.

“I know what you did to Mizu Rose. I have all the evidence I need to expose your wrong doings and bring down the company. If you return him to me, I’ll look over your other transgressions. Your company’s future for Mizu, I think that’s a fair trade right? Miss Sheeza Soulscar.”

For the next few days she waited… patiently, waiting for something to happen till suddenly…

MQ-7 and MQ-8 free fall down towards the town after being airdropped via helicopter.

“No signs of any life but don’t let your guard down. This person called out to me specifically. Loose ends need to be tied but we need to know how far this goes, proceed with caution,” MQ-7 states as a few moments later he and MQ-8 land with a heavy thud in the center of town. Their energy jets having slowed down their fall to within safety parameters.

Their landings leave deep impression of their feet into the cracked and old pavement. The two units look around them at the boarded up buildings, the faint sound of birds in the background. Their glass domed covered heads reflect the midday sun. MQ-8’s heavy blue metal and synthetic armor which covers a most of her body shines as brightly as MQ-7’s darker, blacker armor which covers about a third less than his partner’s.

Just as MQ-8 is taking her first step, a whistle is heard as a bullet hits and ricochets off of her helmet but not before leaving a deep scratch in the dome. MQ-8 disappears and releases the mini cameras as she runs off to the side with MQ-7 dashing in a different direction launching his cameras and going invisible for a few moments as he finds some cover below an abandoned grocery store awning. The two reappear in their new spots as MQ-8 turns to look at MQ-7.

“Could be multiple snipers. I heard a few shots come from a few directions. Stay sharp. You scout the north end of town I’ll scout the south,” MQ-7 commands as MQ-8 silently nods as they separate.

Ivy watches from her hiding spot as she thinks to herself, “Only two came? There probably be more, must not let my guard down. But it's good they split up, now I can take care of that thing.”

MQ-7’s feet crunch glass and small rocks under his feet as he moves alongside the building. His cameras hovering and looking all directions feeding into his HUD system as he and MQ-8 work to scour the town for the assailant.

“Out of the way, abandoned down, not witnesses. What is this person planning to do?” MQ-7 thinks he hears a noise, a voice he’s heard before.

“Mizu… Mizu… Mizu…”

“My old name? Who is this person?” he thinks as he moves towards the sound of the voice. Slowly he moves into a broken down two story tall hotel. Level three stealth mode initiating as he approaches the voice that claws at the back of his mind.

“Mizu… Mizu… Mizu Rose. What is there to tell you? Except I am sorry. Sorry for running away like I did. Sorry not being there and see yourself be your joyful self. Sorry for not being there when you needed me the most. But what I am most sorry of all….” the voice says as Mizu stealthy approaches the center of the room dust filled room. In the center of the room is walkie talkie. Mizu approaches it as his stealth turns as he reaches for it.

“Is what I am about to do to you.” the voice continues asa net pulls up from underneath Mizu’s body hoisting him up to the ceiling before an electrical current runs through the metal netting shocking Mizu’s body, causing his HUD to go fuzzy as his body twitches constantly from the flow of electricity.

MQ-8 is halfway across town by the time she detects something is wrong with MQ-7. She turns his general direction when a bullet hits her in the shoulder piercing through her armor as if it wasn’t even there.

Blood and silver liquid flows from the round as she activates her level three stealth, her body disappears completely from view but not before another shot rings through the air this time hitting her in the left leg piercing through metal, flesh and bone as appears the bleeding appears seeming from nowhere as MQ-8 takes cover.

She peers from her hiding spot looking in the direction of the shots but sees nothing to tell her where the assailant is coming from. She replays the attack via her HUD three times trying to figure the direction but each shot was slightly different from the last.

“Either more than one attacker or someone is quick on their feet,” MQ-8 thinks as she once again deactivates her high level stealth. MQ-8 springs across the street as two more shots come for her, one misses but the other hits and lodges itself into one of her back vents.

Each shot though gives MQ-8 more information for her systems to calculate, to process and give a general direction of the attacks. Using cover she moves towards the attackers.

Eventually she’s led towards an abandoned gas station, a few rusted out automobiles and a tanker truck lay parked nearby. MQ-8 spreads her cameras out releasing all of them as she moves and gets behind one of the vehicles. Her ears twitch listening to the sound of a buzz. She turns her head in the direction and zooms in. There she sees an automated sniper’s nest, fit with high powered anti-tank sniper rifle with remote controlled fire mechanism and camera, all of which is placed at the water tower a several yards behind the gas station.

“They could be anywhere. This is delaying me from MQ-7. I have to see if he’s okay. I don’t want to lose him to some terrorist,” she thinks as she hears a click.

MQ-8 turns to see down the street a good twenty yards away is a red female shark dressed in thick black body armor, protect headgear, a pull down visor, and enough ammunition strapped to her person to take on two… maybe three MQ units. Her face covered in a rubber gas mask hiding most of her face from MQ-8’s view.

“You are going to burn in hell for what you’ve done to Mizu. He was a sweet lovely person that anyone should be so lucky to even meet in their life let alone be with and you took him away and made him into a monster!” exclaims Ivy, her voice muffled by the mask as she fires her strange looking weapon. The bullet slams into MQ-8’s chest but instead of feeling a piercing pain from a bullet she feels a heavy thud that almost knocks her back. She looks down to see a cylindrical device attached to her armor chest plate and just as she moves to grab it it releases a powerful shock causing her body to twitch and squirm, her HUD turning hazy as she’s hit then with another and another. Each one adding to the electrical current coursing through her body.

MQ-8’s body twitches in pain as she tries to take a step forward. Ivy appears and disappears in the sea of static. She falls to one knee as Ivy pulls out a different weapon and takes aim at the nearby tanker, “Burn in hell,” Ivy states as she fires the shot the tanker exploding a sea of fire and petrol. A large ball of fire billows up into the sky as pieces of twisted metal fly all over the place. MQ-8’s flies through the air, her fur burning as she is slammed into a nearby building. Ivy watches from a safe distance as she sees the affect. She pulls out a small tablet and runs her fingers across the screen quickly bringing up the building MQ-8 was just blown into and with a flick of a thumb, the building itself explodes and the rubble falls down onto her.

“That should get rid of the competition,” she remarks as she heads back to where Mizu was captured, “This was too easy I should be on the lookout for more,” she thinks as she flips through the dozens of cameras she has installed throughout the town finding nothing in any of them till she gets to the camera where Mizu is being held and finds the netting has been cut and he’s gone.

“Shit where did he go?” she remarks as she flips through more cameras till her nostrils flair. She tenses as a familiar scent followed by the smell of ozone and metal hits her nostrils. She ducks just as silver wrist blades swing over her head. Leaping back she just manages to dodge Mizu’s bladed tail strike as the attack kicks up dirt and dust.

She looks at the blue domed head. She can picture Mizu’s sweet face on the other side, hidden away from her. Tears swell in her eyes as she stares him down, “I don’t want to hurt you,” she says as she takes aim at him, “Come with me and we can do something to make this better.”

“All you’ve done was attacked and hurt me and my partner. I will not believe a word of what you say, but you are going to be coming with me,” Mizu replies as he attacks.

Ivy shoots off another specialized round that latches onto MQ-7’s belly and instantly sending shocks through his form causing his attack to miss. Ivy kicks under his legs causing him to fall flat onto his face as she shoots another disk into the small of his back causing the current to grow even stronger. This time though MQ-7 manages to flick his tail his blades cut across Ivy’s hand causing her to drop the weapon.

Before Ivy can react MQ-7 grabs and removes the disk from his belly before grabbing and throwing the weapon over and onto the ceiling of one of the nearby buildings. MQ-7 pulls to his feet as he looks at the masked shark person. Electricity runs through his body slowing his movements but all the while something claws in the back of his brain, something about this terrorist reminds him of something.

“I will find out who she is once this is over,” MQ-7 thinks as he launches another flurry of blows. Ivy pulls out a long foot long machete and parries the first two blows and dodges the others.

Blood drips from the top of Ivy’s hand as she eyes Mizu’s attacks, “No matter how good you tried you could never beat me in hand to hand. Don’t worry Miz I am going to save you. This is all for your own good,” Ivy says through the mask as the two continue to spar against one another. Ivy pulling a grenade out and tossing it off to the side near but not at Mizu as he easily dodges the explosions.

The fight continues into a nearby building as Mizu breaks through a wall and Ivy uses a door to dodge and block one his attacks. MQ-7 pulls the door from her hands as the blades are lodged into it. He looks and shakes his arm to try to remove the door when Ivy moves in and roundhouse kicks his legs from underneath him as his back vents land hard and lodge themselves into the floor pinning him to the ground.

“Why do you have to be such a hard head! Can you see I am trying to help you!” Ivy yells as she punches Mizu into the face, her hand aches as she pulls it back in pain.

“Now you literally have a hard head,” she remarks as she feels the throbbing pain, “I think I broke a few fingers in that hit, let's not do that again,” she thinks as she looks behind her and falls back into the next room just as MQ-7 pulls himself out of the floor breaking and shattering the wood. Pieces of wood remain lodged in his wrist blades before he plucks them out one by one as he resumes his pursuit.

MQ-7’s ears twitch as he hears his attack’s heavy breathing from behind a flipped table. Slowly Mizu approaches her his body tensing, his breathing heavy as he tries to focus, as he tries his best to keep his HUD clear of static from the pulsating electricity from the disk still lodged in his back.

“It is time we ended this,” MQ-7 states as he takes another step forward when suddenly he’s lifted up into the air, an electrified net wraps around his body shocking him once more as his wrist blades this time now pressed against his body rendering them useless.

“You fell for the same trap twice? You are as stubborn as ever Miz,” says Ivy as she stands up and walks over to her hanging friend, “Don’t you worry I know it hurts now but in the long run you will thank me. I just couldn’t let you go on like that. You have no idea what its like, its killing me. Not knowing where you were. Wondering if you were alive or dead. Questioning myself every single day if it was my fault. If there was something I could have done to adverted this. I felt such joy knowing you were alive but such sorrow at the life forced upon you. You are some cybernetic thing now. This is not the life I wanted for you when I left. I wanted you to be happy. And I want you to know…” she says as she looks at at Mizu as MQ-7 looks down at her, his vision even more blurred but his hearing is still crystal clear.

“I didn’t do this out of hatred, spite, or pity. Jealousy maybe but that is only natural. To be jealous over something you want so badly but can’t have. It pains me to see you like this Miz, and I am going to do everything I can, everything in my power to bring you back no matter how stubborn you are. No matter how much you try not to want it or see it,” she says as tears continue to swell up in her eyes. They roll down her cheeks over the rubber mask as she continues, “ It hurts I know. It hurts me too and that’s because I lov--,” Ivy says as her words are abruptly ended.

The scent of burn fur and flesh fill the air as a loud hiss is heard from behind. Ivy feels a deep stabbing pain in her back as her entire body is frozen in place. Thud, thud, thud, the whirring of machinery is heard as MQ-8 most of her fur burned away, parts of her flesh showing second or third degree burns as her silver synthetic protective skin layer underneath becomes visible.

MQ-8 walks underneath the net and cuts it, catching MQ-7 as she tenses in pain.

“Love… how, you are badly hurt you need to rest, we’ll get you some medical attention immediately,” MQ-7 states as he moves onto his feet, MQ-8 moves behind him and quickly removes the disk from his back the moment she sees it. MQ-7 reaches and holds MQ-8 for a moment, “Let me handle this, you’ve done enough. I am so sorry I wasn’t there to help. It's my fault you were hurt,” he replies as Ivy stands there breathing slowly, deeply as the tears continue to stream.

MQ-7 faces Ivy stepping up to her as he says, “Now it's time to see who you are,” MQ-7 states as he pulls the mask away revealing Ivy’s face. MQ-7 stands there for a moment staring into it as a dribble of blood runs down her lips.

“M-m...izu,” Ivy manages to say as MQ-7 careful removes Ivy’s helmet revealing even more of her red skin and hair. Her amber eyes locked onto him as he feels a swell of emotions welling up inside of him. His back vents hiss loudly as he slowly breaths in the specialized gas calming him down.

“I’ve missed you Ivy… so very much. It pained me when you left. All I got was a note left on your pillow. I thought it was something that I’ve done that pushed you away. You were always so dear to me. My one true friend, companion through all those tough years of my life. I don’t think I could have made them without you… and now…” MQ-7 says in his cool smooth emotionless voice, two vents in his back open up as two silver metal spheres pop out and float around him and her, “You will support me now, during what is now the most difficult time in my life. I’ve always cared about you Ivy, and I hate to lose you again, and now I won’t.”

Ivy watches as the spheres start to hum and glow as they surround her. She watches as they start to shine a glowing light onto her body as a soft hiss is heard coming from them as countless nanites fly and latch onto Ivy’s body, starting her transformation into S. Tech’s newest MQ unit…

1 Week Later

“It’s finished, what you’ve always wanted,” MQ-7 states as a red and silver metal anthropomorphic shark stands in her charge stand. Her amber colored dome head turns to look at MQ-7, the base of her helmet where metal meets the dome glass is silver shark teeth perpetually keeping an eternal ‘shark smile’ on her face. Her vision tinted by amber focuses on MQ-7 as a surge of pleasure rushes through her body. Silver razor sharp shark fins just from her back starting large but slowly shrinking her tail. Her wrist blades curved in a similar fashion as her shark features were further enhanced by the cybernetic implants. Her right leg covered in metal armor as the left remained mostly untouched save for her foot which turns her toes into sharp claws and jet boosters built into the sole of her feet.

A light MQ unit by design, MQ-156 steps out of her alcove with a sense of glee as she was about to be better equipped to serve the company. Following MQ-7 she is led to the armory where laying on a table is an elegant blood red and black anti-tank rifle. Grooves built into the weapon were designed to fit her form and no one else. She runs her hands across once she gets close.

“This weapon is designed to only be able to be fired by MQ-156 and by her alone. Sensors in her fingertips send out a code to remove safety locks within the weapon allowing it to be fired,” explains a white coat scientist standing on the other side of the table presenting the weapon.

“What do you think MQ-156?”

MQ-156 turns her head to MQ-7 for a moment before reaching to pick up the larger than life weapon, “I’ve always said I’d do anything for you MQ-7. And with this weapon, I am now able to,” she replies her shark tooth grin hidden underneath her domed head.
