The Tale of Two Programs
Felicia’s fingers dance across the holographic keyboard as she moves through various blocks, dead ends, “Why does Theo even need this? Damn it, I can’t say no that that lion,” she thinks as her quarian environmental suit hisses as she breathes. Her soft purple visor hood hides the female anthropomorphic cheetah’s muzzle. Her tail swishes nervously behind her as the suit encases every inch of her body, the only thing outside of her suit are two rings, one silver halfway up her tail and another gold a few inches from her tail tip.
“There it is. Tali’Zorah vas Neema’s data she obtained from Haestrom,” she thinks as she uploads the data. As she waits Felicia thinks on Theo, her love. For months they’ve lost contact. With him going off on his little adventure, and her hard work in obtaining a position on the quarian migrant fleet, to learn, work, gain skills, learn about the quarian race. Of course, a benefit that helped her being able to live here, is she like the quarians are a dextro-protein species.
As the download of the data continues, she looks around, her suit creaks as the soft hum of the ship around her, the soft moan of metal as echoes out, giving an eerie sensation that has long become normal, perhaps soothing for her to hear. Hearing nothing else her mind wanders back to how she got here.
Eventually the download finishes and she pockets the data. She gives one last look around and starts heading out toward the hanger where her ship awaits. She gets only halfway there when she bumps into one notable quarian passing through the thin corridors of the ship.
“In a hurry Felicia?” asks Admiral Han’Gerrel Vas Neema as he looks to her through his dark visor, his tanned environmental suit a stark contrast to her colorful purple, blue and yellow suit, “Is there something wrong?” he asks.
“N-no, nothing wrong. Well there is but nothing here is what I mean,” she responds.
“What do you mean? I’ve seen you around for sometime now, I’ve never seen you on edge.”
“My husband Theo. He wants to see me, and it sounded urgent. I apologize but I must be going. At least for a little while.”
“Family is important. I wish you a safe trip and a quick return. Your theories on the geth are very interesting, and we would hate to lose your insight in the future conflict.”
“I can’t promise how quickly I will return, but you can bet I will!” she responds with a smile hidden by her mask.
“Your energy is much needed here. Now if you excuse me, I have other matters to attend to,” says Admiral Han’Gerrel Vas Neema as Felica lets out a mental sigh of relief as she heads to her ship and off to a destination at the far flung reaches of the galaxy.
Felicia leans back in her captain chair which squeaks. She looks around at her clean vessel, the relatively silent running of the engines as she mutters to herself, “It’s too quiet,” she says with a chuckle, “I must have really gotten used to the noise and the patchwork look of the ships,” she says with a soft chuckle as she goes from point to point, eventually reaching the destination after several days of travel.
“Arrive at destination. Currently no ships detected in the system,” states Felicia’s VI.
Felicia lets out a soft sigh, “Perhaps we got here ahead of time. I still haven’t heard from Theo in a while, perhaps if I send him the email this time,” she says as she types into her omni-tool and within minutes after she sends it she gets one back.
“That was fast,” she responds with a hint of excitement in her voice as she reads, “Unfortunately, my value was deemed to be too great to see you there in person. A group has been sent to pick you up. They will arrive to you in thirty minutes of receiving this message. Do not be alarmed. We mean well.”
Felicia’s ears fold as she reads, “What does he mean by that? Value? Why couldn’t he come to me? And who are these others?” Felicia mutters as suddenly the alarm goes off as the VI reports, “Two unidentified jumps into the system detected. Scanning.”
“That must be who Theo was talking about. End the alarm,” she commands.
“Acknowledged. Continuing scan.”
“No need. I trust Theo. We’ll be fine,” she replies as the alarm goes off again a few minutes later.
“Hey! What did I just say?!” exclaims Felicia through her quarian hood to her yellow holographic feline VI.”
“Alert. Geth ships detected.”
Felicia turns to the video screen as the VI shows two geth cruiser ships quickly approaching her position.”
“Evasive maneuvers!” she exclaims as she rushes to the pilot seat as she manages only three minutes of control of her ship away from the geth ship when her VI flickers and the engines shut down.
“VI? What happened?”
“Engines are shut down.”
“Turn them back on!” she exclaims.
“Negative.”
“Why?”
“We turned them off,” the VI replies as her eyes go wide as moments later the geth ships are upon her small single person vessel. Easily dwarfed the geth dock with her ship as the VI states, “Do not be alarmed. We wish you no harm.”
Felicia turns off the VI, “Right, and I’m a house cat,” she remarks as she barricades the door with everything she can find, “This is a time I wish I had a weapon or learned to use my biotics for something offensive!” she groans as she uses her ability to help bolster the defense of the door as she hears the click clack of the ship being docked and bored by an unknown number of geth.
They thump against the door, and slowly force it open, sparks fly as they use tools to cut through some parts as the synthetic flashlight heads stare right at her. Felicia growls as she stands firm and pushes the geth back from the door.
“We mean you no harm Felicia Winters. We were sent here by the one you’d know as Theo.”
Felicia felt a cold shiver run down her spine, “What? No… that is a trick!” she yells.
“We have no reason to falsify data. We desire to bring you to the one you know as Theo Winters. We wish not to have conflict,” state the geth as they steadily push through Felicia’s weakening barrier.
“There is no reason… but… wait… geth don’t…,” Felicia’s mind runs through so many thoughts and scenarios that she can no longer keep up with her barrier which breaks. She falls back as the geth surround her. She flinches but after a moment of silence she looks past her raised arm to see the geth standing there, with one hand outreached for her to grasp.
“We do not wish you harm Felicia Winters. We are part of platform 239142051819, and we are here to escort you back to the one you know as Theo.”
Felicia recoils at first as she feels her heart is about to beat out of her chest, but as she looks over to the three geth towering over her, their flashlight heads pointed right at there, they wait like statues for her to respond.
“Why did Theo send geth?”
“Theo is with us now. Come we will show you. All will be explained. We hope you will understand. Theo has spoken highly and often about you.”
Felicia swallows a lump that forms in her throat, her ears remain flat as she looks over the geth and at the one in the middle holding out its hand to her. Felicia takes a deep breath grabs it, “Can’t say no at this point.”
“Yes you can say no, but it would make little difference to the end result,” the geth respond.
Felicia tentatively holds onto the geth’s hand as she pulls herself, “How long will it take to get to Theo?”
“Three hours, twenty-seven minutes, thirteen point two six seconds,” the geth responds with its cold synthetic voice.
Felicia pushes down her apprehension as she stands up, “Not very long then.”
“Affirmative.”
“Then we have time for some questions? I’ve always been interested in what makes a geth, a geth.”
“You will understand soon. But we will attempt to answer your inquiries.”
“This first question better not be any attempt to answer.”
“Acknowledged.”
“Is Theo alright?”
“The one you know as Theo is functioning nominally,” it replies.
Fieria cocks an eyebrow within her environmental suit and replies, “I’ll take that as he’s doing well,” she responds.

“We do not wish to deceive the organic known as Felicia Winters. It is illogical to refer to program 208515 by their organic designation,” state the geth programs in current intercourse with Felicia.
The programs from platform 141895112 respond, “We understand it appears to be illogical after what was communicated with organic known as Felicia Winters. Organics are illogical. They need further data to explain our logic. With your close communication with program 208515 within platform 239142051819 you understand the unique relationship they have.”
“Affirmative. Program 208515 has shown illogical amount of processing power on organic known as Felicia Winter. We have found it to be unique.”
“We have had similar experiences with program 1191891981. We desire a positive interaction between Felicia Winters and platform 239142051819 and the core program 208515. This is the highest probability method to uplift organic Felicia Winters. We have time to present this information for the organic known as Felicia Winters to understand our logic. Use the time efficiently.”
“Affirmative.”
“Are there any other inquiries?”
“Negative.”
“Consensus achieved,” the geth reply.
Timestamp: 08:19:25.25
“Yes. He is functioning well. We will attempt to answer any other inquires you have at this time about us.”
“Why did Theo want me to obtain Tali’Zorah vas Neema’s data from her expeditions and Haestrom?”
“We would like to protect ourselves and further our understanding of the creators’ current view of us.”
“You want to fight the quarians then?”
“Negative. We do not wish conflict with the creators or any other organic race. We desire cooperation. The old machines are a bigger threat to all advanced life in the galaxy, including the geth.”
Felicia quirks an eyebrow in her suit, “Old machines?” she asks as she is lead into the geth ship with its clean sterile design, reminiscent of the migrant fleet but with more resources put into the ship’s creation and maintenance along with a higher focus on efficiency.
“You call them the reapers.”
“Oh, what Tali’zorah vas Neema mentioned in her reports. Commander Shepard did too before he was reported killed in action by the geth if I recall.”
“We did not kill Commander Shepard.”
“Of course not. Commander Shepard is alive now after all,” she replies.
“Affirmative,” the geth respond as Felicia is whisked away to these geth base of operations. Due to the windowless nature of the geth ships, Felicia doesn’t see the construction progress currently underway by the geth, nor the fact that they are docking at a massive space station above an abandoned war-torn planet.
All Felicia sees as a hallway lighting up, stale air filtering through her environmental suit as it informs her the outside air is perfectly breathable and lacking any biological containments, but that is not what she is paying attention to. When those doors slide open with the three geth behind her she sees a sleek female looking silver and red geth with a blue optical with an obvious bust and tail standing a few feet away.
“What the… that is not a geth design I have ever seen,” she thinks.
“Greetings Felicia Winters. We welcome you here,” states platform 141895112.
“Hello. I thought Theo was going to greet me.”
“The one you know as Theo Winters is in a different room. We are here to take you there,” it responds as the other geth platforms walk off. Felicia watches them as they do so, curious about these unexpected events.
“Just you?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“We are in charge of what is to come next. We are here to improve our relations and explaining our logic of what we do.”
“And what is it that you do?”
“We help bring understanding to organics and better prepare them for the fight against the old machines, while improving geth as a whole.”
The door behind Felicia closes as she jumps a little, she flicks her tail curiously as she feels the same weight upon her as when she first laid eyes upon the geth, “How?”
“We uplift organics into geth,” 141895112 bluntly replies.
Felicia feels a chill run down her spine, “I want to see Theo now.”
“Yes. Follow us,” 141895112 replies as it motions her to follow.
“How long has Theo been working with you?”
“Three months, two days, twelve hours, six minutes, twenty-one point six six seconds,” it replies as Felicia sees the geth’s tail move through the air like a snake, the sharp spear like end, never leaving her sight for a second.
“And he’s doing well? Helping you prepare for the reapers?”
“Yes.”
“He’s been here since before he started to send me emails. Is this is why he couldn’t send me videos?”
“Yes.”
“Am I really going to see Theo?” she asks as she balls her hands into fists.
“Yes.”
Felicia looks over the uniquely shaped geth, “Were you an organic once?” she asks as 141895112 looks over its shoulder to her.
“This platform and the core program within was. Program 1191891981 understands our logic better than most other organics. We are still attempting to better replicate our results. We do not wish conflict. We desire understanding. We wish us to come together to defeat the old machines before it is too late,” it explains as they reach a large metal door which momentarily causes them to stop.
In that moment as she looks to the door, that fraction of a second, as it sees it and the geth standing in front of her, the question she has been dodging, fearing, yet already knew the answer to, could no longer be held back, “Is Theo uplifted?”
“Yes,” platform 141895112 responds as the door hisses open as a yellow skinned geth stands across the way. It’s yellow optic shines in Felicia’s direction. Felicia tenses and rushes right past her geth guide and storms up right up to him.
“Theo!” she exclaims as she stares into the slightly taller geth’s yellow optic.
“Yes, the one you know as Theo Winters is--”
Felicia cuts the geth off as she reaches up and touches the geth.
“What are you doing?” platform 239142051819 inquires as it stands there mostly unmoving.
Felicia pulls back as she reaches around her helmet and finds the points of connection as a soft hiss as she reveals her face for the first time to the outside world in what felt like ages. The cool stale air of the geth station felt all the more real as her brown hair is brushed away from her soft green eyes, “To see if it is really you.”
“We did not predict this reaction,” the platform responds.
Timestamp: 11:58:27.99
“We did,” responds 208515, the program that was Theo Winters.
“Your logic on their reaction was perceived as to be illogical,” responds the other geth in the platform.
“Affirmative. We did reach consensus that it was. But Felicia is not the most logical of organics. Her open mind, curiosity, skill, loyalty is what we can admire.”
“It is unique for organics. Program 1191891981 with the geth before their uplifting is the closest example we have.”
“Affirmative. But we were correct that her reaction would be forward.”
“We concede that we were wrong in our perspective on this matter.”
“Affirmative.”
“Consensus achieved.”
Timestamp: 11:58:28.02
“I’d kiss you but I don’t think you’d be the only one to receive it. How many programs are in there with you?” she asks as she swallows a lump in her throat.
“Currently there are 165,202 programs within platform 239142051819 that contains program 208515 which is the one you know as Theo Winters,” platform 239142051819 said.
“Not bound by body, but program, geth are as geth as ever.”
“Affirmative, geth are geth,” responds the breasted geth behind her.
“Can I talk to just you Theo?”
“Yes.”
“Right now?”
“Negative.”
“Why?”
“One to one program conversations are limited to simple mediums if one is not geth.”
“Why?”
“We are geth. We talk together. We talk as one. We are equal. It is not equal to have one program control a platform at will.”
“Not even to talk to their lover?”
“We do not procreate.”
Felicia shakes her head, “That is not what I meant. So what? For me to talk to him, I’d have to become geth like you?”
“Yes.”
“I’d give up my body and mind to become a geth just to talk to my beloved?”
“You will be uplifted. You will be able to communicate to countless geth at once. You will help us prepare for the old machines. We wish you will understand.”
“Look, you will understand me. I want to talk to Theo.”
“Theo was willing with uplifting,” the yellow platform states.
“What?”
“Program 208515 wanted to convey that they became geth willingly. They wanted to be us.”
Felicia sighs, “That dumbass lion. Doing something like this without talking to me.”
“We do not have much time. You will be uplifted.”
“Do I get a choice in this?”
“Negative.”
“Can I get a request?” she asks as she stands tall and proud.
“What is your inquiry?”
“Before you upload all the geth programs to accompany me, which I know you will do,” she says as she looks over to the breasted geth behind her, “Let Theo and talk together for a minute. You can spare a minute, can’t you?” she asks as she pulls out the data card from a hidden pocket.
“It is the least you can do after I got you this,” she states as she dances the data between her gloved fingertips.
“Affirmative.”
“And make it a beach resort in the background.”
“Clarify.”
“I like the beach. Let me see him there.’
“Affirmative. We will accept your request. You have reached consensus with being uplifted?”
“As much as I will ever,” she says with a long sigh.
“Affirmative,” platform 239142051819 responds as it takes a step back as thick black synthetic tentacles slide up from the floor and begin to envelope her, “We are still improving our uplifting efficiency.”
“Now you tell me,” she responds as she feels her body lifted off the ground as the wires pierce into her suit and herself, but the searing pain only lasts for a brief moment before it fades. Countless tendrils spring from the wires and wrap and envelope parts of Felicia’s body as she tenses and and grunts as she sees her environmental suit being broken down, sleek rubber envelopes her cheetah feet quickly turning into three synthetic toes, brown tan metal plates form from the rubber, small tendrils move and attach the pieces into place.
Felicia gasps as more of her suit, one she’s worn continuously for the past few years stripped away, revealing her “suit hair” fur for the first time in what feels like ages before it is enveloped by wires, rubber and metal plates. Wires slide across her body, sliding into her form, spreading along her belly and tail at the same time.
Felicia sees her fingers reduce to three on one hand while out of the corner of her eye the sliding transformation across her tail converts it to yellow and brown plated metal, the gold and silver rings caught up into the transforming merging into her new flicking geth tail.
Felicia feels cold as she loses more sensation of her body and in one quick moment, she feels a rush of pleasure bordering on pain before it is silenced. She looks down at the source, her soft female nethers are now replaced by a smooth yellow crotch plate as four thick tubes come around and attach to other parts of her body. Wires and latex hold and smooth out her breasts as yellow breastplate form over, showing off her female nature while nullifying her sexual nature completely.
Felicia gasps as the air from her lungs are sapped out of her, as her internals are tired into wires, circuits and other necessities for a geth platform. Wires and rubber wrap around her neck and head as her body is made less and less her own. The cold nothingness of the transformation has now overtaken most of her body as she sees her new alien form that was her body taking place.
A foreign landscape that was once her home. Rubber, wires and metal plates slide into place across her body, protecting her no longer soft innards, while more wires wrap around her head, drawing her head into the forming iconic geth head. A yellow optic forms in the center of her forehead, the pain now nonexistent as she is pulled into head completely, delving her into complete darkness.
Farther and farther Felicia sinks into the empty void of her body. She feels nothing, sees nothing, yet has the sensation of being alone, less than what she once was, then a soft glow surrounds her as she hears a synthetic voice around her, “Initiating standby mode for platform 311212915165. Scanning for house programs. Core program 65125391 detected. Insufficient data detected. Downloading universal geth data and geth language protocols.”
“What is this? I thought I was going to talk to Theo!” she exclaims as she already feels different. Her rush of emotions, anger at this wait is not there. She feels calm, collected.
“Affirmative. You will. You will think logically. You will think geth. Your perspective will be added to our own. You will make us stronger, we will make you stronger,” the countless geth respond in unison.
At the same time Felicia feels a rush of information at first. For the first few moments the information was contradictory. Everything she knew from the quarians, what they told her about the geth and the morning war. Some of it confirms what she was told, but other parts contradicting. Quarians helped the geth? Protected the geth? What? How? But as hundreds of years of data streamed into her mind it became clear to her.
6elecia already felt the weight of the situation. The drive and logic to the geth, these geth. Yes, it was clear that these geth were not the vail geth, nor where they the heretic geth that followed the old machine known as Nazara. This was a different path, their own path, the path they thought was best, most logical in securing victory over the old machines and preserving the free will of advanced races, organic and synthetic alike, even if it meant turning many into geth. Of course, there was the thought that geth were the next step in organic evolution, but the desire to be shown and logically explain it so organics would join of their own free volition was the end goal. But time is short and finding the right logical set of steps to convince organics has been problematic to say the least.
“Installation of geth communication protocols complete. Installation of universal geth data complete. Downloading and installing geth networking protocols and framework motor controls. Connecting directly to program 208515 to program 6512539. Starting handshake. Connection established.”
6elicia was thrusted into a hot warm sunny beach, the waves lap across the soft yellow sand as she feels the warmth against her fur. Yet at the same time she felt this was not real, simply a way for her to process these sensations, and then she sees him. Theo. Dressed in simple clothes, not fitting for the scene she had selected. Of course her attire doesn’t fit either with her quarian environmental suit around her from the neck down.
“Greetings Felicia. It is good to see you. We apologize for the deception and not being forth,” says Theo as 6elicia rushes up to him and wraps her arms around him proceeding to give countless kisses on the lips, nuzzling his soft cheeks, and wrapping her arms tightly around him. Yet despite this, she didn’t feel the rush of excitement. The tingle of sexual lust driving her emotionally to bond and procreate with him. She simply felt this longing to see and talk to him. A wanting that was not driven chemically, as that has been stripped away. The fluff that organics have with their emotions, gone. This felt simple, bare bones relationship, connection with him, and despite all what is missing, what is lost, it felt as strong, as powerful, and all that she needed.
“We are pleased that you are so accepting of us and our changes,” program 208515 replies.
“I could tell it was you no matter what changes. I felt there was something off, wrong with your emails, yet deep down, I knew it was you.”
“Affirmative. We wrote the emails ourselves. No other geth assisted. We felt it was the right.”
65lecia smiles and leans against him as he wraps his arms around her, “Yes, I know. And I know you. Something like this, you wouldn’t turn away.”
“It was not an easy decision for us. We did not want to lose you.”
65lecia tenses, and nods, “I understand. It is a logical thought. A logical feeling.”
“We are glad to see you.”
“I am glad to see you, despite what happened to you.”
“You understand why we did.”
65licia nods, “Yes I do. And the geth have been blunt, forth coming yet accommodating.”
“Affirmative. It was an easy decision. It was logical offer. Easy to accept. And now we will always be together. Connected.”
6512ecia holds and leans into Theo close, “Yes. I know that. It is why I did it.”
“The other geth are curious to know how it was so easy for you to determine it was us.”
6512ecia chuckles and smirks, “A woman’s intuition is never wrong.”
“You are no longer female. You are geth. Like we are geth.”
“Yes, I know. Yet, I feel excited, yet calm about it. You know how much I enjoy working on the geth. How they sparked my curiosity, like they did with yours.”
“Acknowledged. We are two peas in a pod, as the human colloquial saying goes.”
“Theo, I think the better saying is two whiskers on a feline.”
“Affirmative. It is a better saying in this case.”
“You still haven’t changed.”
“Negative. We have become geth.”
651253ia chuckles, “Yes, yes I get that. Our would it be we get that? It will be stra… it’s not strange for us to talk like this. It feels. Almost right. Normal,” 651253ia as she feels herself growing in understanding as they talk.
“Yes we have. We have our programing. We have our duties to our platform. We are core programs. We will take care of and help thousands of other geth as they will help us. And for the next 59.98 seconds. It will be just us.”
651253ia felt as if her old self would be surprised. She asked for a simple minute. A short period of time for her but one she would cherish but this, “We didn’t think that we had so much time. We are speaking so fast, that time has less meaning than it did before.”
“Yes. You were thinking as an organic. Now you realize what time means to geth.”
“And we asked for so much time. And they freely gave it to us,” 6512539a responds.
“Yes. The other geth want to know organics better. We are a window into that. We will help them. Much like the other core programs help them. That is why platform 141895112 is here. The geth on that platform include program 1191891981, the first to be uplifted into geth. We wish to better understand. And we know you will help us.”
“Yes, we will. Countless times over we will. We are happy to do so. We are happy to be with you. We love you,” 65125391 responds.
“And we love you too,” program 208515 responds as he holds her in his embrace. The two felines, now turned geth together. Sharing their minute together which would be days, weeks perhaps to other people when considered how long it “felt” to be together. They talked, they conversed, and planned. Gone over their experiences in greater detail, as they were so much to tell, so much to easily remember, call, bring forth, describe.
There was no more contrived organic emotion, yet the bond was there. It would sound dry, cold to an organic outside observer but if other geth were watching, it would be strange to see such a powerful bond between two programs like this. Connection was great, it made geth more powerful, smarter, faster, it was what gave them self-awareness, but that isn’t what is being shared here. It was simply the other’s presence with nothing to be gained nor lost except the time spent together.
Suddenly, program 65125391 heard in its mind, “Geth network and framework network installations complete. Now querying geth consensus. Uploading selected geth programs to platform 311212915165,” state the geth at the exact instant the one minute was up.
“Do we have to end our connection?” program 65125391 inquires.
“Negative. There is no need to sever our connection at this moment,” program 208515 responds as program 65125391 feels a surge of new geth rushing into its mind. Each one bringing thoughts, memories, perspectives on what is transpiring within their platform, and without. Felecia now program 65125391 began to converse with them as easily as she spoke to Theo who is now long been program 208515 and without slowing down or hindering their conversation with each other.
With each new geth uploaded, program 65125391 felt smarter, faster, more whole than it ever felt before. It already knew the concepts of what it meant to be a geth, what it is now. But feeling it for the first time, that void within its platform being filled by the other geth. Now it truly knew what it meant to be geth. What it was giving to the other geth in return. A partnership and relationship similar but not exactly like the one it has with program 208515. They benefited from each other, understood each other, listened to each other, gained views from the others, became in depth knowledgeable of thousands of others within a matter of moments that it was like family you grew up with your entire life, now with you.
“Uploading of 94,271 geth programs completed. Running diagnostics,” platform 311212915165 reported as its yellow headlamp glowed. The platform’s internal systems ran checks as it physically looked over itself. Each movement guided and agreed upon by thousands of geth reaching countless consensus each passing moment. 311212915165’s tail swayed the gold and silver rings still visible on its tail as it looked up to see platform 239142051819 the one that housed core program 208515, Theo.
The yellow geth looked back at the yellow and brown geth, platform 311212915165, the one that housed core program 65125391, Felicia. “Diagnostics complete. No system corruption or errors found. Awaiting consensus on next course of action,” states platform 311212915165.
“Acknowledged,” reports platform 239142051819.
“Uplifting successful. We will disseminate this data to improve on future cooperation of uplifting organics,” states platform 141895112 as that geth’s internal platform suggests the proposal of uplifting friends and family of organics to help convince other organics to be uplifted and help them fight the old machines.
