Feyrahl - Introducing The Commanders
Welcome to part three of the character introductions! With my patrons on Patreon putting the final touches to the various cast of characters, I'd like to take this time to introduce you to the two Commanders of the stories-- one for SF and one for FA:
Joren the Rhino will be the Commander of the Feyrahl Empire's military on SF and Victor will be the Commander FA. As a reminder, each story will be self-contained and neither affect not be affected by the other; they are two completely separate tales!
Keep your eyes open for more characters over the rest of this week!
Feyrahl - The Commander (SF), Joren "Stonewall"
The Feyrahlian Empire's military has a number of military leaders but, at the end of the day, they all reprot to Commander Joren Stonewall. An imposing Rhino who can be both intimidating and reassuring (sometimes inexplicably at the same time), he is the second tallest presence in the throne room, second only to the Emperor himself. Joren stands an impressive 7'10" (about 7.4 meters) tall and weighs approximately 780 lbs (close to 354 kg). The Rhino has served the Empire for most of his life as a warrior but only ascended to the role of Commander shortly after the Emperor gained the throne (they were childhood friends and remains clearly trusted by Caldif to this day). His massive height is equaled by his broad build, which is further enhanced by his incredible musculature and is a warrior focused more on sheer strength than agility or speed.
Joren's hide is slate gray in color and he has sparse, black hair on his body, most prominent in his arm pits, groin, and at the end of his tail. Most who see him from afar say that the Commander's eyes are jet black but, up close or in bright light they are distinctly a deep red in color with black scalera. Joren favors lose, non-restrictive clothing even when appearing in court. Whenever on duty the Rhino favors a mail shirt and bracers along with an oval-shaped body shield with a notch at the top where he can position his spear while in a defensive stance. On the rare occasion his body is visible, Joren has a collection of battle scars across his spear arm and shoulder; he also has a large number of cleanly carved ritual scars creating a tapestry across his back-- there are no battle scars because he always faces his enemies and never retreats. He has a single tattoo on his shield arm: a serpent encircling his bicep, biting its own tail.
Although Joren was once a member of a noble family, he is the last surviving member; his parents died in a tragic accident along with his baby sister while his elder sister and brother passed some time ago under circumstances he does not discuss. Since pledging himself to the royal house, Joren was forced to surrender his title, thus ending his family line. Regardless, the Rhino is often considered a member of the royal household due to his close friendship with the Emperor and he has a room all his own at the castle. Having little time for romance, Joren has no love interest, and, despite quite a few potential paramours, he has declined all advances since attaining his current rank, considering himself married to his job.
A true retainer to the Emperor, it is said that Joren would not dare die unless explicitly permitted by Caldif. He takes no days off unless ordered to and is never out of step with his duties. Rumors abound that the Rhino does not take ill and, on numerous occasions when fighting wild monsters, he has taken blows that could kill a lesser man and, in some cases, completely ignored the effects of poison that should have felled him. A veritable font of health, the Rhino has been a dependable retainer since attaining his rank, and likely will remain so for quite some time to come.
Joren's role is not as easy as it sounds, however, since he has to work twice as hard at it; most military roles call for capacity to use magic and, despite having an affinity for Earth Magic, the Rhino is not a skilled caster. Barely capable of using anything beyond a few basic cantrips, it took years for him to learn to manipulate even the faintest bit of Force aspect magic to empower his strikes and protect himself (and others) from injury. He takes a very real honest look at his limitations and, despite it being hard for him to accept, he is neither too conceited nor uptight to accept aid from his subordinates to help supplement his shortcomings in the magic department.
While Joren lives a very work-focused lifestyle he was not always so one-note. Early on in his life had had the opportunity to live a little more freely, which he did in moderation. He has known the touch of both women and men, and is no stranger to relationships, but he believes strongly that romance must be cultivated and effort needs to be put forth toward it; since attaining his role as the Commander there has been no time and no energy to focus on that end and so he believes that he is doing himself (and any potential love interest) a favor by not wasting anyone's time. That does not mean, however, that he is hopeless or that he cannot be encouraged to see the joys of having someone in his life-- if Mac seeks such an outcome with the Rhino it WILL have to be on the Commander's terms, and it will be slow going.
As far as a potential love interest, Joren will always be respectful and attentive, especially as he carries himself as a knight. Finding a way to spend more time with him both on and off duty may be complicated, but familiarity in this case will breed the opposite of contempt-- Jaren needs to see how enjoyable it can be to have someone to care about and who cares about him. If/when Joren begins realizing that he is interested in someone he will begin to show it, but it will be a gradual process as he is a naturally cautious and composed individual; he is also obvious, however, so the signs should not be easy to miss. It is important for him to be in control of the progress though, and should not be rushed... but, for the right person, he can relinquish control and happily go along for the ride.
Joren will refer to Mac as "Knave" if he actively dislikes him.
Joren will refer to Mac as "Human" if he doesn't like him.
Joren will respond to Mac as "Sir" if he is only willing to put up with him.
Joren will respond to Mac as "Mr. Millman" if he tolerates him.
Joren will respond to Mac as "Master Millman" if he views him neutrally.
If Joren regards Mac positively he will refer to him as "Millman".
Joren will respond to Mac as "MacKenzie" if he appreciates him.
Joren will call Mac "Mac" and occasionally "my friend" if he likes him.
Joren will refer to Mac as "Brother" if he regards him affectionately.
If Joren sees Mac as a potential lover, he will refer to him as "Beloved".
Feyrahl - The Commander (FA), Victor "the Heart Breaker"
Considered by many to be yet another one of the Emperor's poor decisions, Commander Victor serves as the military leader for the Feyrahlian Empire. The youngest Commander in history, the Raccoon is widely considered to be more suited to serve as a jester than a commander; he appears to be somewhere in his early 20s, and half the age of a good military leader). He is much smaller than most of his warriors, standing at only 6'3" (1.9 meters), and weighs about 220 lbs (almost 100kg), which is relatively small for an imperial soldier. Although he is a military man, whenever he is not on duty he always wears the finest clothing he can afford and makes certain that it is of the latest fashion; he also chooses styles that are easy to take off, and shows as much fur as is appropriate without upsetting sensitive sensibilities, unless he is not in court, in which case all bets are off. His body is in good condition, and his fur is always meticulously kept.
As a Raccoon, Victor has the standard gray-and-black coloration with thick fur all over his body. He has white fur above the 'mask' around his eyes and also toward the end of his nose ad under his chin, and a lighter shade of gray fur runs down his neck, chest, abdomen, and groin. Victor's fur is shaggy and rich all over his body, making it hard to see his extensive muscle definition, but he doesn't mind having potential love interests come closer to feel it. Despite being a warrior, Victor is largely devoid of scars or other signs of injury, preferring to have his occasional wounds healed magically to avoid messing with his 'perfect' fur. When battle-ready he wears no jewelry but, when in casual company he wears several rings and has one loop and one studded earring in each ear, and, when in the presence of a possible fling, he also brings up another piercing that he promises them they'll get a chance to see.
Unlike many other courtiers in the Emperor's court, Victor is not of noble birth and is often poorly regarded by most in attendance during events he is expected to attend. He has had to learn tact but is still only mediocre when it comes to manners; being particularly outspoken and energetic, the Raccoon has trouble "reeling it in" and has absolutely zero problem with telling people what he really thinks. Recently, however, he has taken some 'minor coaching' to heart from well-meaning associates and has learned that being polite will keep him from gaining the wrath of even more nobles, which is an important component to a long and successful life in the role he occupies. This has led to him perfecting the perfect things to say to get himself out of trouble, and he is well-known for having a Silver Tongue.
Little is known about Victor's family since he was born a commoner and he is not very quick to offer up information, though there are rumors that he takes occasional days off away from the palace, presumably to visit younger siblings, but those have not been substantiated. What IS known about Victor, however, is that he is a playboy; he greatly enjoys carnal interactions with men and women alike, wasting little to no time in courting potential partners and rarely spending more than a night with any given one. Despite his crassness, those who are wooed by his wiles often make more out of it than Victor does, and it has earned him the nickname "The Heart Breaker", and he has no long-term prospects for a lasting relationship, which suits him just fine.
Embodying the Fire Affinity of magic, Victor is as skilled with spells as with his sword, utilizing both in service to the Empire. He is capable with Ember aspect, but tends to focus far more on the aspect of Destruction, utilizing offensive magic in a variety of ways to improve his combat capabilities. He is also a wily tactician, often employing unique, novel, and unorthodox battle plans-- usually to great effect. His daring, radical, and revolutionary way of looking at the battlefield is one of the reasons why the Emperor elevated him to his role, but it was hardly expected that the Raccoon's outlook would also carry over to other parts of his role.
An absolute Rake, Victor is often obsessed with excess. While it has not (yet) affected his ability to serve, the Raccoon rarely has a sober day off and, on a few occasions, he also partakes when he is off-duty between shifts. Wine, women (and men), and song are his favorite ways to fill his spare time, and he also partakes of other substances that affect him in a variety of ways. He likes to nap whenever possible, and prefers to spend at least 12 hours in bed on his days off (not SPECIFICALLY sleeping, but sleeping is good too).
As far as a potential love interest, Victor will be a difficult one to create a lasing relationship, but will be an incredibly easy partner with whom to pursue a physical tryst. Paying close attention to him to understand as much about what he's NOT saying as what he is will be imperative when it comes to building a friendship (and something more). While it may seem counter-intuitive, Victor will start pushing Kenzie for sex LESS the more he likes her until, ultimately, he may come to realize that there could be something more to her than the source of a prospective quickie. Giving into his wiles before he has a chance to build a rapport will be a great way to put an end to a prospective relationship as he'll quickly lose interest if he gets the milk without the cow; it'll take a lot to unlock his heart.
Victor will refer to Kenzie as "Kitten" if he has absolutely no regard for her.
Victor will call Kenzie "Girlie" he doesn't particularly like her.
Victor will respond to Kenzie as "Human" if he only puts up with her.
Victor will respond to Kenzie as "Ma'am" he only tolerates her.
Victor will respond to Kenzie by calling her "Lady Fuller" if he considers her neutrally.
Victor will call Kenzie "My Lady" if he regards her positively.
Victor will finally start calling Kenzie "Mistress" once he appreciates her.
If Victor likes Kenzie he will maintain honorifics but also joke by calling her "Kitten".
If Victor starts regarding Kenzie affectionately he start to clam up and be overtly polite.
Should Victor see Kenzie as a potential lover he may start referring to her as "Smith". It'll make sense if/when it happens.
