The Couch–Story 7 of 31

Dark, voluminous clouds filled the sky while the full moon briefly peaked its light through. Inside the old house on Snake Hill, all the lights had been extinguished. However, a cacophony of static blared out from a television. It’s static filled screen illuminating a coffee table and a couch. Already sitting, waiting, was Mango, a rather large Great Dane. He had already gotten comfortable, had a drink on the table and a bowl of popcorn waiting to be eaten.
“It’s movie night!” called a voice from the kitchen.
Mango grunted, tired of waiting for his partner, Judy, a Great Dane like himself. “Come on, what’s taking you so long?”
Judy’s sing song voice answered back, “Good things come to those who wait, dear!”
With a spinning flourish, Judy entered the room, a drink, a bowl of popcorn, and a bag of freshly baked cookies.
“Cookies…That’s what took you so long? Why’d you bake cookies?” Mango asked.
Judy frowned, her disappointment removing the smile she once wore. “I thought you’d like them. It’s been forever since we’ve been able to have a movie night. You’ve been working so much lately and I thought…”
“Honey, I love you and I know you’re just trying to do something special, but come on, this is my one night off. You know I gotta be back at the lumber mill tomorrow morning.” Mango said, trying to save himself from the rude comment that brought Judy’s mood down.
Judy made her way to the couch and quickly sat down, placing her things on the table. “I know, Mango. I just miss when we could do this on the regular.”
The male Great Dane put an arm around Judy, pulling her close before planting a kiss on her cheek. “You know, there’s another cookie I wouldn’t mind eating…”
“Mango!” Judy exclaimed. “You know we can’t do that right now, still gotta get back on the pill. Ain’t been easy to find a new doctor taking patients since we moved in.”
Mango reached over to the table and got a cookie out of the bag, and took a bite. “I know, Judy.” He let out a frustrated growl as he leaned back against the couch. “I’ll settle for these instead.”
“I promise I’ll do my best to find a doctor as soon as I can. You’re not the only one who’s pent up.” Judy waggled her eyebrows and seductively ran a finger down Mango’s chest. “My big, strong man. Working so hard to provide a house for us.”
Mango chuckled, “Well, at least that’s one benefit. We got a roof over our heads and a kitchen full of food.”
Judy leaned in and gave Mango a kiss and a quick lick at his muzzle. “Come on, let’s start the movie. Maybe I can help you get to sleep with mouth action after this.”
Again, Mango chuckled aloud, “Nobody says ‘mouth action’, Judy.”
“Oh, come on, I was just trying to be funny.” Judy said as she got up and started up the VCR.
They had rented the movie, “The Thing”, a story about an alien lifeform that had been found in the arctic that, once it was unfrozen, began to terrorize everyone at the arctic base.
Mango and Judy laid together on the couch, her laying against him, his arms wrapped around her body. The pair had met in High School and quickly fell in love. And though Mango was slated to become a collegiate athlete, he decided he couldn’t be apart from Judy, opting instead to go straight into the job market, eking out a life for the two of them. While it was hard work, the pair were making a little life for themselves.
Suddenly, Mango was awake, not realizing he had fallen asleep, when Judy started to get up from the couch.
“I’ll be right back, Mango. That soda must’ve gone right through me!”
Playfully, Mango squeezed Judy with a hug before releasing her. “Don’t take too long. Seems I’m more tired that I thought I was.”
The female Great Dane got up and sauntered over to the VCR, bending over playfully and wagged her rear end toward Mango as she stopped the film. “Don’t worry, big guy, I won’t. You just sit there for a minute and I’ll be right back.”
With a slow jog, Judy exited the room as Mango lay his head back on to the armrest of the couch. He closed his eyes and wiggled a bit to get more comfortable, his large frame sinking into the cushions.
“I’m a very lucky guy to have a gal like her,” Mango thought to himself.
Suddenly, he had an itch on his rump. Instead of reaching down to scratch it, he kept his arms crossed over his chest and wiggled back and forth, allowing the fabric of the couch to scratch it for him.
And then, another itch, this time on his back.
And again, the Great Dane’s body shifted back and forth, sinking him still further into the cushions.
“I don’t remember this thing being so itchy or soft. Thing might swallow me at this rate.” Mango thought to himself.
Then Mango began to fall.
His eyes popped open, darkness surrounding him completely. As he descended, he shouted, screaming at the top of his lungs, flailing his arms and legs for anything to grab on to. It was as if the world had vanished and he was swallowed by the abyss.
Then a voice called to him. “Mango! Mango! Wake up!”
Mango opened his eyes for a second time, having apparently fallen asleep again, and was experiencing a bad dream. He was startled, sitting up and staring at Judy, a bit of drool hanging from his muzzle. “What!? I’m…ok.”
Judy kneeled down beside the couch, grabbing Mango’s hand, “Yeah, you’re alright love. Another nightmare?”
Mango shook his head, trying to make the dream leave his mind. “Yeah…Was falling this time.”
“I’m worried about you, Mango. Ever since we moved in, you’ve been having those awful dreams.” Judy said, concern filling her words. “Maybe you’re working too hard and the stress is getting to you.”
Mango sat there staring at Judy, his eyes widening.
“Mango, what’s wrong? You look scared.”
Mango shifted a little, sitting up. “Judy, don’t move.”
Judy began to shake nervously. “You’re scaring me.”
Mango was looking past Judy into the darkness over her shoulder, his unblinking eye focused on whatever it was behind her.
Then, with a start, Mango yelled, “Boo!” and Judy screamed.
“That’s not funny, you dick!” Judy said as he slapped at Mango’s chest.
Mango laughed. “You should have seen the look on your face.”
Judy stood up, moved to the VCR, and started the movie once again. “Well, after that little stunt, you can forget getting a blowjob.”
“Oh, come on, Judy.” Replied Mango as he threw his hands up. “Was just having a little fun.”
Wordlessly, Judy came back to the couch, sitting down near Mango’s paws on the opposite side of the couch. “Let’s just finish this movie and go to bed.”
“Fine…” Mango answered, drawing his legs up to give Judy more room. He knew he had gone a bit too far this time.
The pair sat in silence for the remainder of the film, though Judy finally relaxed enough to put a hand on Mango’s leg. This comforted Mango, as he was afraid that she was going to be mad at him for much longer.
As the credits began to roll, Judy turned to Mango, saying cheerfully, “That was pretty good! Probably in my top ten movies list!”
Mango agreed. It had been a wonderful movie. “For sure. If we watch it again, maybe I…” Mango cut himself off and, again, stared toward Judy. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Maybe what?” Judy answered back.
“Judy, don’t move,” Mango said. This time, his voice was thick with fear.
Judy looked at Mango as if he had gone insane. “You dickhead. I’m not falling for that shit again,” and started to get off the couch.
However, with a lightning quick motion, a fleshy, tongue like tendril wrapped around both Judy and Mango and pulled them into the couch. Their yelps were quickly muffled by the cushions before silence filled the air.
The credits finished and the living room was bathed once again in the light of a static filled television.
