At Five Years End Finishes Yesterday
This is a poem about the passage of time and the things we let slip away from us. A bit of an abstract one with a theme that was and is still fitting because this year has flown by. For better and for worse. Originally posted in May 2024.
At Five Years End Finishes Yesterday
By: A.X. Bueno
It's been too long leaving your memory hazy with things so different now
Naturally too far removed from where you started to pick up where you left off last
It's been at least five years since this all got interrupted back in the past
An unexpected interruption but it's been five years since then
You got a free second shot, an apology, a shade of frustration along with some friends
You could have tried to see it again while it was all still fresh in your mind
Instead with the next opportunity you jump right into seeing something else
Another incident so you jump into and enjoy going into something else almost blind
Things happen you couldn't foresee and thus jumps forward time
And when you've exhausted other avenues and distractions sublime
There you are again sitting down for it once again
Not by yourself but also not with those same friends
You settle down in a whole new but very familiar place and start over
This one thing being part of a number of holdovers
From what feels like another lifetime but was only years ago
And with a gap as short as yesterday
So you bridge it finally with a pressing of play
Hoping to re-experience that lost flow
