Lucas starts his journey discovering what he wants to do in life.

My name is Lucas and I've just turned ten years old and that means I am now old enough to start journeying across the entire Pokemon world, from Kanto all the way to Paldea if I so choose. However, as of this very moment, you wouldn't have expected me to actually be going on a journey. Simply because I was still sleeping even though I should be leaving soon.

Thankfully, my mother, who was downstairs had noticed that I still hadn't woken up. She sighed in amusement and gestured towards her Pokemon partner, a lively Raichu. "Dear Raichu why don't you go and wake up Lucas?"

That Raichu of hers was a seriously mischievous Pokemon, that loved to mess with me, but in a playful way. I guess he had been around with me for many years so probably saw me as a brother figure.

Meanwhile in my room, I was still sleeping comfortably, dreaming off amazing Pokemon I might one day catch. I could see a Dragonite, flying above me in a battle against a unknown trainer. I thought though I could hear the door to my room opening, but shrugged it off.

I regretted the decision quite quickly when I heard the familiar voice of Raichu unleashing a Thunderbolt upon me. I shot up out of bed with a start looking over at Raichu who was sniggering enjoying my reaction. I grumbled annoyed and got out of bed gesturing for Raichu to go get some breakfast. He disappeared out of my room like nothing had happened.

That's when like another Thunderbolt had hit me I realised what day it was. I was supposed to go to Professor Oak's lab and go get my very first Pokemon. I dashed around and grabbed my clothes and got dressed. Then I did my morning routine as quick as I could. Heading downstairs I almost barrelled into my mum but put the brakes on just in time.

"Good morning dear. You must have slept quite well, to be full of energy this morning." My mother spoke and I nodded. "Well today is the day I get to go and get a Pokemon from Professor Oak."

"Have you decided which Pokemon you'll choose as your starter Pokemon?" Mum asked me while she prepared some breakfast and I pondered that in my head. First there was Bulbasaur a Grass and Poison Type Pokemon. I'd heard that Bulbasaur was considered a good starter Pokemon since it was easy to raise and wasn't rather temperamental either. Then there was Squirtle the Water Type, Squirtle were somewhat considered a middle ground, they also were pretty cool when they were fully evolved too as a Blastoise. Finally there was Charmander considered the most difficult to raise. Specifically because usually in their middle stage, Charmeleon could sometimes find their trainer to be too weak. Then Charizard was definitely a fearsome Pokemon that when loyal was incredibly powerful.

I again considered everything imagining each of the Pokemon right beside me. Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander. But the answer was eluding me, I honestly didn't have a clue as to what Pokemon I would choose as my starter. "I honestly don't know right now. I thought I would know but deep down I find the decision almost impossible." I explained and my mum nodded sagely.

"Well of course. You'll be choosing your very first Pokemon companion to join you on your journey across the Kanto Region. Many trainers go through the same conundrum as you are right now. Remember Ash who used to be our neighbour before he left on a journey a while ago? I heard from Delia that Ash slept in and that meant he started out with his Pikachu. Delia likes to say it was fate."

I nodded in understanding. Then remembered Ash Ketchum who was very well considered to be the worlds strongest trainer. Ever since he won the masters tournament not too long ago. He defeated Steven the Hoenn Region champion, Cynthia the Sinnoh Region champion and even Leon the Galar Champion and the previous unbeatable world champion monarch. I remembered watching the final battle on the TV. Seeing Ash's Pikachu eventually defeat Leon's Charizard, now that was a exciting and jaw dropping battle.

I shook my head trying to focus and began eating my breakfast quickly. Deep down I knew I'd know which Pokemon I'd choose when I met them. Something told me, that the first meeting would be the way to know.

At that I finished my breakfast and was about to begin packing but my mother put her hand up. "Now wait right there. You go off and go choose your very first Pokemon. By the time you come back I'll have packed your bag with everything you need, and as an added bonus. Here, I'll give you some Potions and Poke balls I bought for you."

"You didn't have to do that mum. But thank you very much for that, it means a lot to me." My mum nodded and she almost looked like she was about to cry, but quickly stopped herself. I knew she'd miss me greatly when I left home and I promised myself I would remain in touch.

"Before you go, do you have your phone? You'll need that to contact myself, or the Professor if you need any help in your journey." I grinned, holding up my red phone, "Already way ahead of you mum."

My mum nodded smiling before waving me off. "Now go on go choose your Pokemon, Pallet Town is rather small so it won't be dangerous to reach the laboratory." I nodded in agreement and opened the door waving goodbye before I began making my way to the Professor's laboratory.

The walk there may have been short, but it gave me some time to think about what I wanted to do on my journey. Did I want to become the worlds strongest and challenge Ash Ketchum to a battle? Or maybe I'd like to give it a go at being a coordinator but deep down I knew that wasn't my scene. Then again there was also trying to complete the Pokedex, that sounded like a fun challenge.

I looked over at the laboratory seeing the familiar windmill but noticed a few helicopters hovering around the lab. "That's strange, maybe there's some sort of news broadcast and those are news journalists getting aerial shots of something?" Deep down that didn't make sense, those helicopters looked dark in appearance and I couldn't see much at all.

Then what looked like a Energy Ball, smashed into one of the helicopters bringing it crashing down causing me to start panicking. Obviously something serious was happening. While running to the laboratory I grabbed my phone and began dialling Officer Jenny and informed her of the current situation, though I admitted I didn't have a clue as to what was actually happening.

I headed into the lab seeing nobody was around, there seemed to be no sign of a struggle or anything like that. Everything almost appeared to look like an ordinary lab. "Professor are you here? Is everything alright?" I shouted my voice echoing across the lab but nobody came or answered back.

I heard another explosion this time coming from outside and headed to the side door hoping Professor Oak didn't mind me barging in. When I looked outside I understood what was happening. I couldn't see the Professor or anyone else, but I could see, Team Rocket members trying to catch Pokemon here. They were armed with nets and Pokemon too.

I ducked down hoping to stay unobserved, but unfortunately I had been seen by a Team Rocket member who looked to be quite senior. "Well, well, here I thought we'd only have to deal with the meddlesome Professor and his assistant. At least that's what our intel suggested. However, looks like we have a little bystander caught up in our operation. We can't have that now can we?" He mockingly spoke gesturing to me as he held up a Pokeball.

"Now then kid, surrender and give us your Pokemon and we won't hurt you." I looked down, "I don't have any Pokemon, I came here to get my starter Pokemon today." The admin seemed unamused. "Kid, nice try but I'm not buying it. You have one more chance or else I'll sick my Arbok on you and believe me, he won't play nice kid."

I just stood there nervous and looked around hoping that someone might appear but the Pokemon were all occupied in a serious battle. "Kid you really need to learn how to pay attention. Go Arbok!" I turned around at that just barely seeing an Arbok slither up to me, wrapping me up tightly restraining me.

"Let go!" I struggled but the Arbok simply sneered, tongue flickering while tightening around me. However, from my vantage point I saw something that gave me hope. A Hawlucha and a Sceptile had spotted what was happening and nodded to each other before moving in. The admin and his Arbok had no time to react when the Hawlucha quickly used a Flying Press hitting Arbok right on the head. In that exact moment, the Arbok released me, groaning in pain.

The Sceptile quickly used a precise Leaf Blade to strike the Arbok and sent it flying into the admin who was surprised and furious but could do nothing. The Sceptile and Hawlucha stood right in front of me blocking my view, or rather blocking the admins view of me. "Men hurry up we're leaving. We need to regroup!" The admin spoke in his radio but it sure seemed like he wasn't going to get away.

Looking behind and around me I saw several grunts restrained by several Pokemon. A few were wrapped up in String Shot. Some were knocked out on the ground. The admin too saw the scene and realised it was game over. "Retreat immediately!" However, his command was stopped when an Infernape knocked him out with a surprise attack.

The commotion was soon interrupted once again by the sounds of two things. Number one, Professor Oak rushing towards my direction, panting. Secondly the sound of approaching sirens. Thanks to my efforts in calling Officer Jenny before I stepped inside.

"Lucas goodness me, I forgot you were coming today. Did you get hurt at all?" Professor Oak seemed worried but I shook my head. "No Professor I'm all good thanks to those three." I pointed at the Hawlucha, Sceptile and Infernape.

The three Pokemon looked relaxed now as they observed the police officers begin arresting and transporting the grunts away in handcuffs. "That's a relief, Team Rocket tried to steal all the Pokemon I've been looking after but thankfully, we managed to stop them."

I nodded seeing all the grunts were now being placed inside the police vans as Officer Jenny quickly spoke to Professor Oak getting a statement from him. While he did that I again looked towards the three Pokemon that had saved me. "Thanks you three." The three seemed to have quite distinctive personalities. The Infernape grinned, his thumbs up as he flipped in the air, The Sceptile meanwhile was leaning against a tree, nodding in my general direction. The Hawlucha, however proudly put his chest out absorbing the thanks.

"Now, that chaos has finally been dealt with. I'd like to get you your very first Pokemon now. But first follow me inside the laboratory." Professor Oak began leading me inside and up the the main room where three Poke balls were stationed.

"Now then Lucas, I presume you already know the three Pokemon inside those Poke balls?" I nodded simply and the Professor hummed. "But, there's always more to learn about Pokemon wouldn't you agree?" Again I nodded at that.

"I presume you have a phone on you yes?" Professor Oak asked me and I nodded grabbing my phone and holding it out. "Excellent, Rotom go in Lucas phone and help him on his journey."

At that I was surprised when I saw a Rotom disappear inside my phone and upgrade it with the Pokedex feature. "As you can see your Rotom Phone can now do all sorts of things. You can use your Pokedex to scan any Pokemon, you can use your phone to get detailed information on your current location too."

"Thank you Professor. This will come in handy. "Now then lets meet the Pokemon and see who'll you choose as your very first Pokemon?" At that Professor Oak released the three starters.

"First we have Bulbasaur as you know a Grass and Poison Type. Then we have Squirtle a Water Type and finally Charmander a Fire Type. But now have a look at your Pokedex, it might help you make your choice if your still undecided."

I nodded pointing my Rotom phone at Bulbasaur firstly. "Bulbasaur the Seed Pokemon a Grass and Poison Type. There is a plant seed on its back right from the day this Pokemon was born. The seed slowly grows larger." I again nodded in understanding before pointing my phone towards Squirtle. "Squirtle the Tiny Turtle Pokemon a Water Type. It hides in its shell to protect itself, then strikes back with bouts of water at every opportunity." Finally I turned towards Charmander. "Charmander, the Lizard Pokemon a Fire Type. From the time it is born, a flame burns at the tip of its tail. Its life would end if the flame were to go out."

At that I put my phone away and looked over the three before making my decision. "Professor I choose Squirtle."
