The story of a young lioness and a mute young man, the caretaker of a medieval zoo.

In the heart of a medieval kingdom, where castle spires reached to the sky and bustling market squares were filled with the songs of minstrels and the clatter of horses' hooves, there was a menagerie. This menagerie was a place of wonder and curiosity, where nobles and commoners alike could marvel at creatures from distant lands. Among these creatures was a young lioness of legendary beauty. A majestic and mysterious beast whose golden fur and piercing eyes captivated all who saw her.

Locals said that she was once a beautiful maiden, who was transformed into her current appearance by an evil witch. It was believed that the spell was unbreakable, and she remained forever trapped in the body of a huge animal. There were rumors that on full moon nights she turned back into a beautiful maiden, but with the first rays of the morning sun she took back her animal form. Of course, it was just a rumor, but to one person, she indeed was more than just an animal.

Among the keepers of the menagerie was a young mute named Alden. Though he could not speak, his heart spoke in gestures of kindness and compassion. Alden had a unique connection with animals, but not as deep as the one he had with Elara. Every day, he brought her choice cuts of raw meat, and she looked back at him with eyes that seemed to recognize him from a past life. Their friendship blossomed in a silent language of shared glances and gentle touches through the bars of her cage. No one else dared touch her. She would allow no one else to do so.

Though her cage was her refuge, providing safety and sustenance, it could not protect her from the loneliness that tormented her heart. As the seasons changed and Elara grew, a new kind of restlessness settled in her with age. It was a call of nature, a primal need she did not fully understand. She paced her cage, rolled over on her back and licked herself under her tail, but nothing could ease the pangs of maturity. Her eyes, once serene, now held a desperate plea. Her pain was only increased by her profound loneliness. There was no one to help her, no other lion to ease her suffering. No one... except Alden.

One evening, as the sky turned red with twilight, Elara's restlessness reached its peak. The area around her cage, where a crowd of onlookers usually gathered during the day, was completely deserted at this time. She wandered around her cage with the same intensity, her eyes never leaving Alden, who was busy with the daily routine of caring for the other animals. Her tail was now drawn to the side in silent invitation. Alden, though young, understood the natural behavior of the animals he cared for. He knew what her body was asking for, even if he couldn't fully comprehend the implications.

As always, he approached her cage and reached through the bars, hoping to soothe her somehow. When his fingers slid over her golden fur, Elara tensed but did not pull away. This touch felt different, charged with anticipation. His hand reached her lower back and the lioness's body involuntarily arched towards his touch. When he stroked her back leg, she responded with a slight squat, her body language clear but tremulous. She wanted him to understand her need. But when his hand touched a sensitive spot framed by damp fur, she was startled and snapped, pulling away.

But not for long. Soon she approached the cage bars again, looking at Alden with pleading eyes, exposing her side and moving her tail to the side. Everything repeated itself again, but this time Elara behaved more restrainedly, allowing the young man to touch her special place. The young man was stunned by this new experience, he had never been with a girl and had never touched a female there. He massaged her flesh in circular motions, making Elara purr and knead the floor with her front paws, digging her claws into the boards.

But when he tried to explore her with his fingers, Elara suddenly growled and jumped away. No, it didn't hurt her, she was just scared. She wanted his touch madly, it felt so good, but she couldn't endure it, she wasn't ready to feel it: not like this, not there, not inside. She was too excited and unable to cope with her animal feelings that had taken over her entire being. It wasn't just pleasant, it was... frighteningly pleasant!

Alden guessed that she was simply not ready yet and decided to give her time. She approached the bars of the cage for his caresses again and again. Each time she became bolder until she accepted him completely, allowing herself to be touched. It was wet and hot inside, Elara simply languished from the sensations. It seemed that this was exactly what her exhausted body craved. Until suddenly she interrupted his caresses again, but this time not to run away. She remained near the bars of the cage, but lay down in front of Alden in a pose of submission and wordless invitation that lionesses reserve for their partners.

The night thickened, casting long shadows, dancing in the flickering torchlight. The air was filled with that magical scent of the night, but now there was another scent added to it. And that night, Alden could not sleep. His heart began to beat faster as he fought with his thoughts. "Does that mean I can? Does that mean I am a lion?" he thought. The weight of the moment was pressing down on him. She was a huge and dangerous female. She had not turned into a beautiful maiden during the night, but that did not matter to him. All that mattered was that she was his female. She called to him, she wanted him, she was ready. And she needed him.

Gathering his courage, Alden opened the door of her cage and stepped inside, knowing that once he crossed this line, there might be no turning back. The world outside seemed to hold its breath as the boy and the lioness merged in a union of mutual need and understanding. The darkness of the cage hid everything unnecessary from prying eyes, the night erased the boundaries between man and beast, and the muffled groans of the lioness filled the walls of the old menagerie.

They remained in her cage until the first ray of dawn kissed the horizon. Alden slept furtively, snuggling into the warm fur of her chest, to the beating of her massive heart. Her suffering was over, and Elara was grateful to him. In the morning, the magic of the night disappeared, and they again became a mute youth and a beautiful young lioness. But something had changed irreversibly. Alden continued to care for Elara, and she, in turn, found solace in the silent company of the boy who dared to build a bridge across the abyss of their existence.
