- Chapter: Unknown Rescue
“…A symbol…in the form of a winged circle…”
„…Goldyellow eyes…which are looking at me…“
„…I finally found you…“
Hikaru slowly opened his eyes. At first it was all just blurry, but he realized that he was in an unfamiliar room, in whose bed he was lying. It had a wardrobe on the right side, to his left was a small bedside table with a reading lamp, and in the left front corner was a chair. He felt uncomfortable, and not just because of the headache he had. Everything was so strange to him and he wondered how he had gotten here.
Then he remembered the strange man; he must have brought him here. He also noticed that something was wrong with him. He looked down and noticed that all of his clothes had been removed and he was lying completely naked in bed. Hikaru had to suppress a scream of horror and tried not to panic when at that moment a man's voice spoke to him: "Ah, you finally woke up."
Now Hikaru looked at the door where the mysterious panther was standing and saw that he was wearing nothing but a towel around his waist. That sight was too much for Hikaru. He completely lost it and screamed loudly: "Ahhhhrgh, voyeur! pervert! RAPIST!!!" The black panther looked at him indignantly and spoke in a loud voice:
"That's enough!!! Is that the thanks I get for helping you, idiot?" Hikaru slowly calmed down again, but still looked at his "savior" suspiciously.
"Where are my clothes?" he asked nervously and the panther answered: "In the dryer. They were completely wet and dirty and you weren't much better off. After I made sure that you weren't seriously injured, I took you with me and brought you here to my apartment. Here I first took off your clothes and put you in the hot tub, then I put your clothes in the washing machine and then, after cleaning you, put you in my bed, if that's what you want to know." Now Hikaru was really calmed down, although he didn't particularly like the idea that the stranger had seen him naked.
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry that I overreacted a bit." At this the panther just thought to himself: "A bit?" and both stayed silent for a while until Hikaru remembered: "Oh yes, that reminds me that I haven't introduced myself yet.
My name is Hikaru Ginno. And what's your name?" The strange panther looked at him silently for a moment and then answered briefly: "Legato...Legato Yamino."
Then he turned around and said: "I'll go get your underwear. It should be ready by now." Then he left the room and Hikaru was alone again. Leaving him to his thoughts, which were intensely focused about that Legato guy.
"Why did he help me? He doesn't even know me. But...Would you have just left him lying there, Hikaru? Definitely not. But...Legato is an interesting guy. His eyes, his voice, his tattoo on his left upper arm...somehow fascinating. And what a muscular body he has..." at that thought he suddenly stopped. He shook his head wildly and thought to himself: "What are you thinking, Hikaru! Legato is a man! You don't like guys...or...? But then again, you've never been much interested in girls either, does that mean I…" But at that moment Legato entered the room again and said: "So, here are your underpants."
"Good, then give them to me." Hikaru was about to get up but Legato said: "Wait. You'd better stay lying down. You're still too exhausted." But Hikaru didn't listen and threw the blanket aside. But with the first step he collapsed and fell to his knees. Legato quickly ran to Hikaru and helped him up, but the towel came loose and fell to the floor. They stared at each other and neither knew what to say. Hikaru tried not to look down but then curiosity got the better of him and his gaze fell briefly on Legato and his manhood, which caused his heart to skip a beat.
But then Legato picked up the towel and handed Hikaru his underpants, saying: "You should get some sleep and rest now. I'm going to get ready for bed too." Hikaru nodded, ashamed. He pulled on his underpants and got into bed.
"Why did I look at his thing? Was I so curious to know what he was endowed with? I mean, that's ridiculous!" A short time later, however, he heard something next to him and opened his eyes. Legato was lying in front of him, facing him, and he was startled.
"What are you doing here?" asked Hikaru. "Listen, this is still my bed and I don't feel like sleeping on the couch when I have a bed big enough for two." Understandable but not justifiable, thought Hikaru. He trembled at the thought that Legato might molest him. But Legato had other thoughts. Hikaru's constant shaking bothered him and so he asked him:
"Why are you shaking like that? Are you still cold? Then come, I'll warm you up." So he took Hikaru in his arms and held him close. While more than shocked at first, he slowly began to enjoy it. It had been a long time since he didn’t have to sleep alone and so he fell into a deep, safe and sound sleep.
The next morning, Hikaru woke up and noticed that Legato was no longer lying next to him. He had probably already gotten up and didn't want to wake me, thought Hikaru and got up. His headache was over. In fact, he felt absolutely great, as if nothing had happened. His clothes were carefully folded on the chair and he put them on immediately. Then he ran out of the room and looked around for Legato. He noticed the size of the apartment. A large living room with a couch, TV and armchair, a private bathroom with a shower, bathtub, toilet and sink and behind it was another room that was probably the laundry room. But there was no sign of Legato. The next room was the kitchen, where there was a stove, a refrigerator, etc. Judging by the stove, which was still warm, Legato had been here. Only now did he hear some noise and find another door. He opened it and saw a small room behind it, which also served as a passage to the living room. There was a table, deliciously laid out and at the head of the table, Legato sat reading a newspaper. He had changed and was now wearing a white shirt and dark blue pants. Hikaru walked towards him and Legato looked up.
"Good morning," he said briefly.
"Uh, good morning," Hikaru replied shyly.
"Come and eat something. You must be hungry," Legato offered with a slight smile, but his eyes remained serious.
"Yes, thank you," Hikaru replied and sat down on a chair. Legato had turned back to the newspaper and continued reading. Hikaru took a piece of bread and spread peanut butter on it. Then he took the black pot and Legato said to him, without taking his eyes off the newspaper: "The black one has tea in it. If you prefer coffee, you have to take the white one."
Hikaru paused in surprise. How did he notice which teapot he was about to take?
"It's fine. I prefer tea to coffee," he said and poured himself some into the cup. From it’s aroma he guessed it was some Earl Grey tea. He took a sip and felt his strength return slowly but surely.
Both were very quiet the whole time and Hikaru knew he had to say something.
"Well...I thank you for bringing me here." Legato looked at him. "You're welcome," was his only answer.
"But..." Hikaru didn't know exactly how to say it. "Why did you help me anyway?" Now Legato finally put the newspaper aside and looked directly at him. It seemed as if he was thinking, but then he answered: "I don't know exactly. You were in trouble. Do you need any other reason to help someone?"
Hikaru was ashamed and silent.
"By the way, shouldn't you call home? Your parents are probably worried." But Hikaru shook his head and said:
"I don't have any parents anymore. I've been living alone in a student dorm for two years." Legato looked at him and expressed his condolences. But Hikaru just said: "It's okay. I can handle it. But what about your parents?" Now Legato's expression darkened and he spoke in a cold voice: "My mother is no longer alive and my father...", then he fell silent. Hikaru became nervous. Apparently this was a topic that Legato did not want to talk about. He had to think of something to change the subject. "Uh, how old are you, Legato-san? I'm eighteen." Legato seemed to realize that he was trying to distract him, but he said nothing and simply answered: "I am twenty-two years old now and I have lived in this apartment since I was sixteen."
Hikaru was astonished. He had been living alone in this dream home for six years? "And what are you doing at the moment? Are you still going to college or are you already working?" Hikaru asked him next.
"At the moment I don't have a permanent job. But now and then I work as a pianist in various clubs and bars. However, I only earn a little money from that. So I'm going to try to get a second job this week. And what about you? I assume you're still going to school."
"Exactly, I'm in my final year at the Nerima High School. Unfortunately, I still have no idea what I'm going to do for a living after I graduate. But let's think about something else. Do you really play the piano?"
Legato just nodded.
"Right. There's one in the living room." He stood up and walked into the living room while Hikaru stood up and followed him. Strangely, his gaze fell briefly on the newspaper and he quickly looked at what Legato had actually read. The title of the report was:
New mysterious deaths in the drug scene!
Somehow strange, thought Hikaru, but then he left the report and went to Legato in the living room. There was a small piano against the wall and he looked at it with wide eyes. "Can you play something for me on it?" he asked Legato. Legato nodded and then said: "If you tell me which song, you can accompany me with your singing." Hikaru was surprised. "How do you know that I can sing?"
"I heard you singing in that bar yesterday." -"But..." He felt strange. He never noticed Legato at the bar. Had the panther been watching him the whole time? Was he that mysterious figure he noticed at the bar’s window?
Had he been following him, perhaps lying in wait for him? He became afraid, turned around, went into the bedroom and got the rest of his things. Then he walked towards the front door and Legato asked, irritated: "Hey, what’s wrong?. Where are you going?" Now Hikaru turned around and answered briefly and succinctly: "I just remembered that I have an urgent appointment and I have to hurry. I'm sorry about the inconvenience, so, see you later." - "But..." Before he could say more, Hikaru was already out of the apartment and running out onto the street. Only now did he come to his senses and thought to himself: "Oh man! I'm such a complete idiot! He probably hates me now."
