The Tiger and the Cat, Chapter 2
Sometimes it take a while to come back for another entry in the series. In this case, it was over three years since the first chapter was posted. Since 2022 was the last year of the Tiger, it's still sort-of consistent. This also takes place in the same universe (and university campus) as Jurassic Flu. Doctor Natasha Somnem celebrates the Lunar New Year. The tiger anthro wonders if there is anything special in store for her with the start of the Year of the Tiger.
Despite the cold Canadian February, the Lunar New Year Festival was packed with people. Throughout Saint Joseph’s Park banners displayed both traditional and more modern displays of the Tiger as he took his place in the twelve year cycle. The smell of hot and delicious Chinese food wafted through the air from the various stands and food trucks. Natasha Somnem was among the crowd, her sensitive nose twitching between the smell of food and the scents of all the gathered people.
Looking around the people gathered in the park she was noticing how many more anthros there were than last year’s festival. She was aware that some of them were because of her, like her friends Shelly and Kit. Thankfully, they were more than happy with their altered bodies and didn’t let Natasha regret the night they spent together.
They can’t all be because of me. It’s not just happening in and around the University either. She shook her head. I didn’t come out to the festival to brood on things, I’m here for food and fireworks. She chastised herself before making her way to one of the food stands.
Along with the authentic dishes, there were some western food options available, and others that were a fusion of flavors. She came to a stop at a food truck advertising Mongolian Beef poutine. She blinked, not sure if she had read the sign correctly.
“That’s just wrong.” A female voice said beside her.
“Come on, everything tastes better on fries.” Another voice answered.
Natasha turned and was a little surprised to see a pair of dinosaurs bundled up against the cold.
“Oh hey,” the allosaurus said, “you must be that professor in the history department. Looks like you’ve got the perfect look for tonight, being the Year of the Tiger and all.”
“Ah, yes,” the tiger recovered quickly, “Dr Natasha Somnem, nice to meet you.” She shook hands with the pair of saurians. “I heard about the CIHR locking down the museum. Are you both alright?”
The deinonychus sighed. “That was because of me. I ended up catching the dino-flu from Lexi over there because of a compromised immune system. I’m Cynthia, by the way.”
“The lockdown did suck, but in the end, what were they going to do, right?” Lexi shrugged. “The way things are going, who knows how many anthros there will be by the end of the semester?”
“Who knows?” Natasha sighed, “Anyway, I hope you two have a good evening. Happy New Year.”
“You too, Dr Somnem.” Cynthia replied.
As Natasha turned to walk away she could hear Lexi trying to convince her friend to try the poutine and the bacon egg rolls. She always had a soft spot for bao buns, and she saw a promising stand up ahead. Drawing close to the stand she could feel the humid heat from the many pots steaming the buns. There were at least three generations of a family manning the booth, with the youngest taking her order. The young woman did her best to not act surprised as she took down the large order. Further back in the stand the old grandmother watched Natasha with a slight smile, apparently amused by a tiger stopping by on a night like this.
With her arms full of hot bao, Natasha made one more stop for a can of beer to wash down her treat and found a nice secluded spot to enjoy the firework show. She leaned against a tree before carefully taking a bite out of a char siu stuffed bun. She sighed as she chewed. It was still hot enough she couldn’t just pop the entire bun into her mouth forcing her to chew slowly and enjoy it. Before long she heard the announcement that the firework show was about to begin.
Natasha watched the colorful explosions light up the sky above St Joseph's Park as she quickly made her way through the delicious bao buns. She had always loved fireworks. Sometimes she wondered if her love of them is what attracted her to studying Chinese history in the first place. The food didn’t last to the end of the show, and just before the finale she cracked open the beer and took a sip.
In my old life I wouldn’t have given any real thought to the zodiac, but given the fact I’m an avatar of Li Shou and an anthro tiger, I can’t help but wonder if there is anything special planned for me this year. Natasha sipped her beer while looking up at the stars in the sky. One thing I know for sure, I think my life is going to stay interesting for the time being.
***
Natasha started to stir in her bed before the alarm on her phone went off. With a low growl she silenced the alarm before slowly sitting up in bed. She placed a hand over her white-furred belly. She could feel her stomach protesting the fact that it was empty.
It’s not like I skipped dinner, if anything I ate too much last night. She mused as she swung her legs over the edge of her bed. I guess I’ll get breakfast first and then shower.
Natasha made her normal breakfast. A large bowl of oatmeal along with bacon, eggs, and toast. She devoured them all and went to grab a shower. As she worked shampoo into her black and white striped fur, she was still feeling hungry. She munched down on three granola bars while drying her fur enough to get dressed.
Even as she left her apartment she was still feeling twinges of hunger. As she walked by the local coffee shop, the scent of scones and breakfast sandwiches made her mouth water and she had to stop to buy some more food. Thankfully that seemed to be enough to sate her hunger by the time she reached the university campus. She made a quick stop in the ladies’ room to dust the crumbs from the scone she had devoured from her muzzle before heading to the lecture hall.
After hanging up her trench coat in the green room, Natasha took her place at the podium, setting up her laptop as the students filed in and took their seats. Her early morning lecture was nowhere near as full as the later ones were, but having spent a significant portion of her life in universities, she understood the desire to start the day a bit later.
Natasha glanced at the clock on her laptop and saw it was time to start the lecture. She turned on the microphone on the podium and addressed the class.
"Good morning. Before we get started I want to assure you I am well aware of the Lunar New Year cycle, and that this is the Year of the Tiger. Go ahead and get the chuckles out. After all, It will be twelve years before it lines up with me again, and hopefully by then you are all done with your education here.” There were a few chuckles and a few smiles at her comments. “Alright then,” she turned on the projector, “I’ll continue right where we left off.”
Natasha started her lecture as usual. As she normally would, she made sure to maintain eye contact with her students. Now that it was over a month into the semester, she was starting to recognize faces in her class. Not to mention the subtle changes. It had been small little things at first. Eyes becoming less human in shade and appearance, more pronounced canines, nails looking longer and thicker. Those kinds of things. Students also seemed to wind back a bit between lectures, not completely, but it was still noticeable.
She paused to take a sip of water and to advance the slide when she noticed something different than usual. Towards the front of the room a student was tapping away on his laptop. That was normal. What was not normal was his ears. As she watched she could see them growing longer and more pointed, not to mention the fur that was starting to grow on them Natasha could see his ears shifting from human to decidedly canine as she watched.
She almost choked on her water and started to cough. Her students looked on with obvious concern. As she watched she could see other changes happening to them in front of her. She managed to get a hold of herself and stop coughing.
“Excuse me,” she said rather meekly, “I’m afraid I’m suddenly not feeling very well. I’m going to have to dismiss you all early today. The notes will be available on the portal, and I have a recording of the lecture from a previous semester I will post as soon as I can. Once again, I'm sorry.”
Natasha quickly disconnected her laptop and hurried to the green room. She shut the door and leaned back against it. Even though the door was closed her sensitive ears could hear the murmured conversations and the discoveries of new changes. Not sure about what to do exactly, she gathered up her things and headed to her office as quickly as she could.
Dr Gérard Balzac looked up from his computer screen when he heard the door open.
“Bonjour, Somnem.” He greeted her, but quickly noticed the look on her face. “Are you alright?” he asked as he sat up from his desk.
“I-I don’t know, I…”
“Sit, sit.” The old professor escorted her to the chair. “Deep breaths, I’ll make you some tea, non?”
Natasha managed a nod as she tried to calm down. She watched as the medieval history professor started the kettle and filled the infuser with tea leaves. Balzac looked the same as he had when she was first given the office, right down to the sport coat he always wore. Why were her students changing while the old professor remained the same? She had no real idea.
Even though the tea was still steeping, Balzac handed her the cup. She leaned down and inhaled the scent of the brewing tea, and it helped. He rolled his chair out from behind his desk and sat across from her.
“Thank you.” She said softly as she relaxed slightly. “I, I don’t know what’s happening to me today.”
“How so?”
“I woke up this morning absolutely ravenous, like I hadn't eaten anything in a day or two, when in fact I probably ate too much the night before if anything.”
“At the New Year’s Festival?”
Natasha nodded. “I ate two breakfasts worth of food and stopped in a coffee shop for more walking to work today.” The tiger took a sip of her tea, it was still a little weak but she needed something. “I started my first lecture of the day but as I was talking I started to notice my students. They were changing.”
Balzac adjusted his glasses slightly. “I had heard some talk about that.”
“No, this was different. This was happening in real time as I stood at the podium. I watched one young man’s ears go from human to canine in less than a minute.” She looked up from her mug of tea and at her college’s ears. “I don’t know why it hasn’t affected you in any way.”
“I’m old and set in my ways.” Balzac smiled slightly.
Natasha let out a small chuckle. She needed the laugh as much as the tea at this point.
“I dismissed my class early and I’m planning to cancel the rest of my classes for the day at least. I need to go home and figure out what is happening to me before any more anthros show up on campus.”
“I’m sure the administration wouldn’t be happy if the CIHR was called to campus two times in less than a month.
“I actually met the pair of students in the park last night.” She smiled a bit at the memory. “One of them had her tail wrapped up in a few scarves to keep it warm.”
He chuckled before glancing at his watch. “I don’t have to be anywhere for the next hour, I could drive you home.”
“That might be for the best.” She took a long sip of her tea. “Let me send out a few emails and we can head out.”
Natasha had just opened up her laptop when her desk phone began to ring. She picked up the receiver but didn’t have a chance to even say hello.
“Dr Somnem!” She recognized the voice of Benson Roberts, the Dean of Humanities. “What have you done?”
“What do you mean? I ended my lecture early because I wasn’t feeling well.”
“You know damn well that’s not what I’m talking about! Get your rear to my office immediately!”
“But-”
“Now!” her ears flinched as he slammed down on the receiver.
“God damn it…” Natasha said softly as she hung up her desk phone.
“Dean Roberts?”
“Yes, apparently he wants to yell at me in person. So much for going home.”
***
Natasha made her way quickly through the halls of Edward University. With what was happening around her she wished to minimize the time she was around any of the students. She came to Dean Roberts office and quickly opened the door. His secretary looked up from her computer and gave Natasha a cold glare, but that was nothing new.
“They are waiting for you in the office.” she indicated with her head.
“Thank you.” Natasha could at least remain professional.
She walked over to the door and knocked softly before turning the doorknob. Dean Roberts was sitting behind his desk. The man was young for the position, having recently taken over after the retirement of his predecessor at the start of the semester. Also in the room was Dr Myla Brant, the head of her department. Oliver Wood, the director of campus security was also there. That didn’t bode well. There was one other woman Natasha didn’t recognize who was tapping away on her tablet.
“Dr Somnem, take a seat.” Roberts’ voice had a false calm to it, like he was ready to explode at any moment.
She took her seat and made direct eye contact but said nothing. Natasha was waiting on the dean to begin the conversation.
“Following your incident in China, the university was assured there would be no issue in you both continuing your research as well as your educational duties as a professor.”
“And the acts passed by Parliament regarding the rights of anthros had nothing to do with that at all, did they?” She replied in a calm neutral voice.
The dean narrowed his eyes but maintained his tone. “There is no discrimination of either faculty or students here at Edward University. What matters, however, is the safety of both, especially the students. There have been rumors for months about your classes and the effect you have been having on those attending.”
“Not to mention the report we heard about the couple you met off campus.” The woman she didn’t know spoke up.
Natasha turned her head towards the woman. “Excuse me, who are you?”
“Sienna Regan, student health coordinator.”
“First of all, they were not students at this institution, and secondly my private life is of no concern to the university.”
“She’s right on both counts.” Dr Brant spoke up, “There’s no need to bring it up in this conversation.”
“What does matter is the fall out from your lecture this morning.” The dean stood up from his chair. “There are now ten more anthros on the student roster, and about a dozen more with distinct animal features, and all of them were in your lecture!” The false calmness slipped away. “We only just got over the debacle at the natural history museum and now this.”
“The CIHR is already on their way back.” Wood said with a long sigh, “And they aren’t happy about it.”
“I want answers, Somnem, now!” Roberts slapped the top of his desk. “Just what the hell is going on?”
Natasha shook her head. “I-I don’t know! Ever since last night things have been strange.”
“Strange?” Regan looked up from her tablet, “you’re going to have to describe things a lot better than that.”
Natasha took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “All I can think of is it has something to do with the Lunar New Year.”
“What nonsense is that supposed to be?” Roberts continued to glare at her.
“It’s not nonsense that I’m an avatar of a Chinese goddess, that’s how all of this happened!” Natasha growled slightly as she indicated her body.
“Natasha, are you saying this has something to do with it being the Year of the Tiger?” Dr Brant asked honestly curious.
“Maybe? I don’t know Myla.” She covered her face with her hands. “I should have just stayed home.”
“Perhaps you should have. Regan said, glaring at the tiger over her tablet once more.
Natasha looked down at her feet and took several deep breaths. Things were not looking good for her career at that moment. Suddenly she caught a strange scent in the air. She looked up from her feet and gasped when she looked at Dean Roberts. His nose was rapidly darkening to an almost black color and his ears were starting to grow longer. She quickly looked around at the other members of the administration. They were all staring at the dean, not noticing the changes that were beginning with their own bodies.
Dr. Brant’s nose was visibly twitching and her ears were growing even longer than the dean’s. Wood was starting to sprout scales along his hairline. As for Regan, her eyes had shifted from brown to golden and were now sporting vertical pupils and the back of her hands was starting to sprout fur.
“Oh hell…” Natasha whispered under her breath.
“What are you all staring at? I…” As he looked between his colleagues he quickly realized what was happening to all of them.”
“You should have just yelled at me over the phone.” Natasha said softly as she stood up. “I’ll head home now before I affect anyone else.”
“Somnem! Get back here!” Dark fur was starting to sprout up on the back of his hands.
Natasha ignored the dean. At this point she assumed she was going to be fired anyway, so why bother. On her way out of the dean’s office she advised the secretary to hold his calls. She hurried to make her way out of the administration building and off the campus before she caused any more problems. She welcomed the cold air as she stepped outside. She was starting to get warm, but it wasn’t from speed walking down the halls.
The scent of a room with four people starting to transform was honestly turning her on. She thought her lustful desires were under control after meeting Shelly and Kit, but now things were quickly rebounding out of control.
I just need to get home. Once I’m alone I can burn off some steam until they can come over for an emergency visit. It’s never felt like this before, I can barely think!
She had her phone out and was already writing out a text to Shelly as she did her best to avoid walking too close to any of the students out and about on campus. As distracted as she was by her condition, she didn’t notice the young man following after her.
Conner Smith was a young undergrad at Edward University. As someone who was always desperate to fit in, he had accompanied his roommates to a party the previous evening. The Lunar New Year was just an excuse to drink and get high, and honestly Conner was alright with that. At some point in the evening while he was sitting on a couch enjoying his buzz, somebody mentioned how it was the Year of the Tiger, and that led to bringing up the university’s resident tiger anthro, Dr Somnem.
It was then that things got heated, somehow. Some jock from the hockey team started going off on how he didn’t believe in any of this ‘anthro crap’ as he put it. In his mind it was nothing more than a conspiracy by furries on the internet to justify wearing their creepy costumes in public. Even heavily buzzed, Conner knew that he was being an idiot.
A sober Conner would have just rolled his eyes and stayed quiet. Inebriated Conner just had to say something to a jock ten centimeters taller than he was and twice his weight. He spelled out that the growing return of anthros was well documented in international news. Conner then reminded him of the CIHR visit at the museum on top of the fact there was no way Dr Somnem was just a woman in a suit.
One thing led to another, and it almost led to a fight. Thankfully the other guests stepped in. Conner did, however, end up being challenged to a dare to prove Dr Somnem really was a tiger, by yanking on her tail. Once again, impaired Conner agreed to it. Now here he was stalking a professor as she made her way home.
Although it was through no planning on his part, Conner was downwind from Natasha. And with her own mind distracted and under stress she had no idea she was being followed as she left the campus proper. Conner drew closer, but he was still far too nervous about actually grabbing a tiger by the tail. Natasha reached her apartment building and walked up the steps before fumbling for her keys. Conner saw it was his last chance. As he went to walk by her, he reached up and grabbed the white and black striped tail.
Natasha let out a sound somewhere between a yell and a roar. In a flash she turned around and grabbed her attacker by the shoulders. In a blink, Conner was lifted up off the pavement and was slammed into the wall next to the door. The tiger was much stronger than she looked. She glared at him and was ready to tear into the young man verbally when the scent of arousal coming off his body hit her like a truck. Conner was feeling what some of his friends jokingly called ‘scarerousal’. Being pinned up against the wall by the fierce, yet sexy tiger anthro was crossing all the young man’s wires.
Natasha couldn't take it anymore. She needed release, and she was going to have it. She pressed her muzzle in and kissed the man with obvious passion. Conner let out a muffled gasp, but didn’t fight, welcoming her textured tongue into his mouth. His entire body started to tingle as they shared the kiss. Conner couldn’t follow what happened next. One moment he was pressed against the wall outside, then he was in the apartment of the tiger.
They didn’t make it to the bed or even the couch. He was on the floor and barely had a chance to catch his breath before a now pantless Natasha was straddling his face. Conner didn’t need any instructions and he quickly started to lap at her slit. He could feel her entire body vibrate with a low rumbling growl. It wasn’t quite a purr, but it was close. As he delved deeper into the professor, Conner felt the tingling intensifying through his body.
It started with his ears, growing longer and twitching as they became mobile. Soon fine black fur started to cover the outside of the slightly rounded ears now positioned on the top of his head. His nails became longer and sharper, eventually they were able to mostly react back into his finger tips. His clothes became uncomfortable as patches of fur started to sprout up all along his body. But then something even stranger began to happen to his body.
His legs stretched longer and his thighs grew thicker and more rounded. The angle of his shoulders shifted, slanting downwards even as he held tightly to the tiger riding his face. Although Conner didn’t feel in the least bit less excited, the obvious tent in his jeans was slowly shrinking down. At the same time his chest started to expand.
Natasha was oblivious to what was happening to her unplanned partner. She slipped out of her shirt and bra, tossing them to the side. Natasha’s eyes were shut tightly as she savored the enthusiastic oral. It wasn’t until she felt the changing texture of Conner’s tongue, that she opened her eyes and looked down. A tiger's muzzle was buried deep into her crotch now. They were a more traditional rusty orange color. Natasha also noticed their now white hair had grown significantly longer. Before she could give it much thought, her climax hit and hit hard.
Natasha threw back her head and roared with release. Gasping for air she rolled off the new tiger. Conner gasped, breathing in fresh gulps of air. It wasn’t until he started to sit up did he realize just how much had changed.
“What the hell?” A much softer and more feminine voice than Conner was used to hearing called out. “Why do I have boobs, what’s with my voice?”
Natasha snapped out of her post climax stupor and looked at her partner. They were not just an anthro tiger, but a tigress. It wasn’t just physically obvious, she could smell the distinctly female scent radiating from her guest.
Conner pulled at her now ill fitting clothing. Pulling off her shirt revealing a generous pair of C-cup breasts covered in soft white fur. Pushing down her pants and shorts in one go, she freed her tail, but showed her old equipment was now gone, replaced with a wet and sensitive pussy.
Conner collapsed down onto the couch, still feeling dazed by everything. After a moment Natasha joined her on the couch.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to jump you like that, just when you pulled my tail I kind of lost it.”
“It was rude of me at the very least. It was just a stupid dare I got into last night with some meat-head.”
“Still, I know I was starting to have a greater effect on people, that’s why I was hurrying home before I spread it any further. Even with what was already happening, I wasn’t expecting…”
“Me turning into a girl?”
“Yes, that.”
Conner took a deep breath. “Dr Somnem I-”
“I think you can just call me Natasha after all this, not to mention you’re not one of my students. Thank all the gods for that at least.”
“I’m Conner, Conner Smith. I feel a little torn right now, like I should be angry because you took my balls away, but I don’t really feel bad about this new body.” She gently ran her hands down her side. “My whole life I struggled to fit in. Half the reason I went out last night was to just fit in, then I got into that stupid argument and dare…”
“Why did you pull my tail anyway?”
“To prove you were real and not just a very dedicated fur-suiter.”
Natasha laughed. “Are you serious? Who would believe that after everything that has come out about anthros?”
“Somebody who took one too many pucks to the head.” Conner sighed. “Anyway…what do I do now?”
Natasha sighed. “I know who to contact to get things like your ID taken care of for starters.”
“What about the University?”
“Well, I might end up getting fired, oh, not because of you, don’t worry. Anyway, that can wait until tomorrow.”
“I’m going to need some new clothes, aren’t I?”
“You can borrow some of mine, if you want to leave.”
“What?”
“Well, if you’re ready to leave I won’t stop you, But I’ve never been the kind of person who didn’t return the favor.”
“I, ah, I mean…I am a little curious about how it would feel, you know?”
Natasha smiled and leaned in for a quick kiss before slipping off of the couch and in between Conner’s legs. She started with her finger, gently caressing the new tigress’ labia with her fingers. From the sounds and gasps Conner was making, she was enjoying it. She then leaned in close, teasing the moist slit with her hot breath. Conner was whimpering now, her clawed hands digging into the cushions of the couch. She gasped when she felt the cool nose press against her folds and then let out a loud moan as she felt Natasha’s textured tongue brush against her needy pussy.
A few more licks and Conner was practically levitating off the couch. Her eyes closed tightly and she leaned back her head as she was overwhelmed by the new experience. Conner’s muzzle was opened wide as she moaned and mewled. Natasha delved deeper, almost driven mad by the scent and taste of the new female. Conner folded back her ears and let out a roar as her first female orgasm washed over her body. She then melted almost into a puddle back on the couch. Panting hard, she couldn’t even see straight. When Natasha sat back on the couch, Conner reached out and pulled the white tiger down onto her hot fuzzy body. Natasha nuzzled her back softly. They cuddled softly for several moments before the orange tiger spoke up.
“Can you teach me?”
“It wouldn't be very ethical for you to take one of my classes, assuming I still have my job tomorrow.”
“No, I mean, can you teach me how to be a woman, er, tigress?”
“Since this is all kind of my fault, I think I’m obligated to.”
“Don’t think about it that way. I need to work through everything, but I feel, I don’t know, right I guess? For the first time.”
“Alright, I’ll show you the ropes at least.”
