Pre-Author Note: I wasn't sure if I was going to post this story. I was really nervous what others would think, but after I wrote two chapters and was starting to feel better about it I decided to go ahead and see how it's received. Apart from writing papers for school, this is the first time I've really tried to write a story for fun. Hope to get better as I go.

A world ravaged by war where the future looks grim, a prophecy passed down through generations gives hope to the hopeless:

** Every ten generations, a rare purple dragon will be born, who will direct the fate of that era**

Slowly faith in the prophecy and morale of the creatures on the losing side are drastically fading. The Year of the Dragon passed some years ago, this one being the one that would bring the miraculous dragon, but no one has seen or heard of them.

An amateur writer some-what changes the story line of a purple dragon set up by a three game series.

When most people think of a forest, they envision trees, grass, shrubs, leaves, and the noises of the insects and wild creatures. Our story does start in a forest...of sorts. This one does have the noises and foliage, but instead of trees covered in bark and leaves, this one is a forest of mushrooms the size of trees.

Across this mushroom filled forest runs streams and many swampy areas. In a certain part of the forest lies a structure built into a lonely mountain that has become overgrown with vines and vegetation, as if nature has slowly started to reclaim the land that once belonged to it. Though right now, this structure is not our current goal, at least not yet.

Our goal is a small clearing past it. This is where we begin our story; though maybe not in a grand way. For someone traveling this forest and were trying to push their way through the foliage, they wouldn't notice the clearing until it was too late. Though not a far drop on the other side of the shrubs and bushes there is an instant drop of several feet down into this clearing. If one were lucky enough they might walk upon a gentle slope of a small stream of water running down a slight hill into a small crevice in the side of one of the walls. Facing the stream where it enters the clearing, off to the left is some bushes surrounded by small mushrooms. Getting closer to the brush one might see them move ever so slightly down and then back up to their original spot. Again, after a second they would move the same way. Again, and again, and again...

Peeking inside to see what would be causing them to move, one would be startled to see a young male dragon. A child that is sleeping as peacefully as if he were sleeping on the most comfortable of beds.

This is our first protagonist of the story. Slowly his eyelids roll up. Still tired and not wanting to get up, the drake rolls over...

"AH!" Yells the young drake suddenly. Quickly moving his left paw to see what has poked him in his side.

Rubbing the side of his stomach, the young one stops as if finally realizing where he is at. Rolling this way and that like a turtle on its back, he finally rolls over unto his feet and slowly tries to get out of the bush.

Leaving tail and rump first he achieves his goal. A grunt is forced from his mouth when he trips over said tail and flat onto his back.

As his eyes open themselves again they become large with wonder at what they see. The drake turns his head slowly as he takes in the scenery around him as he pushes himself up to sit.

The sound of the small stream reaches through his amazement and he realizes how thirsty he is. As he reaches his goal, his mouth starts drinking in the cool refreshing water. Once his thirst is satisfied he ponders what to do next. Eventually deciding to follow the stream back the way it's coming to see where it might lead.

As he pushes past the barrier of bushes surrounding the clearing he keeps close to the stream as much as possible, moving around or over obstacles when they appear in his way. As he walks he notices the stream getting wider and slightly deeper. He decides to stick to the right side of the stream and keeps walking.

After a short uneventful walk he arrives at the source of the stream. He has arrived at a river flowing quickly, yet gently. Looking around he sees nothing, but giant mushrooms and undergrowth. Looking up above the tops of the giant mushrooms he notices farther down the stream a mountain with some kind of structure built into it rising above them. It looks quite a distance away and his paws ache from just thinking about the walk toward it.

Shrugging and with no other landmark in sight, he sets off down the stream trying to keep the structure in front.

Needing another drink after some time, he heads down to the river. Closing his eyes he starts drinking.

He gasps as he opens his eyes and sees his reflection as if for the first time.

Through the some-what murky water one can make out the purple scales across the young drakes body. They were a deep, dark purple. His chest, underbelly, and underneath his tail were of a dark gold, but right near the edge before it touches the purple scales a faint coloring of red could seen. Turning he could see tiny wings that made another gasp escape his mouth. Those too were gold along the top from where it connected to his body to the the tips and going into the membranes. The membranes themselves are a black red. On top of his head are a pair of curved, dark gold horns with tips becoming the black red. Also, on top of his snout was a gold horn. His tail ends with a red sharp spiral tip. The eyes starring back at him were a bright apple red.

He stood there for a while, looking at his image and then trying to move the tiny wings on his back. He thought after another wiggle of the wings that maybe he just hasn't used them enough and just needs to get used to those muscle.

After looking over his reflection once again, he finished getting his drink and started back on his walk. While walking he soon noticed the shadows getting longer and knew night was approaching. He looked up and saw that he made great progress getting closer to the structure. He could now make out that something had been built on top of the steep cliffs, but that slowly vines, moss, and other greenery and mushrooms were covering it up.

He was just about to start looking for shelter when he heard a noise. On his walk he had grown used to the sounds of the insects and small rustles of the leaves as critters ran away from him. To him, that seemed natural for this kinda of place.

No, this noise was different. Standing still and slightly shaking he tried to locate where it was coming from. It sounded like it was far but...

Looking up he sees shapes running across the top of the mushrooms. He could hear them making sounds like grunts and laughs as they jumped and ran. He watched them for a while wondering if they were going to come down or keep moving.

Suddenly several of them jumped from the bushes ahead of him. In total there were four. Their dark skin could be seen on their stomach, lower back, upper parts of their arms, and tail; every where else besides their face, feet, and hands was colored a dark grey fur. Though for an odd reason there was a tuft of orange fur on their stomach. They had brown bands across their foreheads, arms, feet and a sash going from their left shoulder down to their right hip. There was also another going around their waist with a bone tied to it holding up what looked to be a moss loincloth. There was moss also near the end of its tail which ended as well with grey fur. It had a long jaw that pointed out and was painted orange, blue, and red on top. It's nose was also red. A long sharp tooth on both sides of its mouth could be seen pointing up.

"A dragon," One of the apes in front said disgustingly. "What are you doing here filth?"

The little dragon scared to death said nothing but bent his head down and took a step back.

"Doesn't matter," says another slightly behind him on his right "You heard Cynder. Either capture it or kill it."

All four started yelling with glee and pulled out daggers. "GET HIM!!" yelled the first one and they charged the young one. Seeing them coming after him, he bolted into the shrubs, trying to get away and hopefully to find a place to hide. Running as fast as his little legs could go he thought he wasn't gaining distance. In fact it felt like they were right behind his tail, just ready to grab it. He dared not to look back.

Ducking, jumping, and dodging all that he could he tried to keep on his paws. Pushing through so much though was eventually giving him many scrapes. "Why do bushes have to be so prickly?" He thought to himself as he felt more scrapes on him after jumping through a bush.

He knew he was lucky so far. He hadn't tripped over anything and the apes hadn't caught him..yet. Though for some reason he realized one place he could go. He looked to his left and saw through a quick glimpse the structure he was recently heading toward. He started to turn that way, knowing it was a gamble that those scary creatures were there, but hoping it might be a safe place to hide.

With all the noise he was making he didn't realize that he couldn't hear the apes anymore. He didn't care, as long as he got far away and closer to his goal. He started to slow down when he felt that he was a safe distance away, plus he was out of breath.

Breathing heavily trying to suck in as much air as he could, he stood their trying to get his breath back.

"I think he went this way!" shouted a voice behind him.

Not caring how much his lungs hurt he got a second wind and dashed off again. After running a short distance he checked how much closer he was to the structure. He noticed the rocky cliffs below it had gotten much taller and bigger.

Another bush was coming up and as he jumped through, he didn't feel the ground below him. His luck ran out he realized before falling down into a clearing about as deep as the one he was in earlier.

"OW!!" he cried out when he landed. He sat their moaning for a minute, the air had been pushed out of him. Looking up he saw a cave ahead. "Safety" he thought. Trying to rise he heard some twigs snapping farther behind him. Suddenly rushing forward, he bolted to the cave.

He got closer and closer and knew he was safe when he crossed it's threshold. Closing his eyes and smiling he started to slow down...

BAM!!! Though he didn't slow down fast enough.

Giving out a couple of moans he opened his eyes to see a tail above him, thinking it was his own and that he was on his back.

Something shifted and it wasn't him.

Quickly getting to his feet he turned around and saw something else on it's back. As his eyes adjusted to the dark, the 'thing' was slowly getting up and shook it's head.

"What just ran into me?" said the creature.

The young drakes eyes finally got used to the lack of light and saw something that made his jaw drop... Our second protagonist; another purple drake...

Though this one was a lighter shade of purple compared to him. His chest and underbelly were a completely lighter shade of gold. His wings were the light shade of gold from where they connected all the way to the tips and in between the membranes, but his membranes were brown. He had two gold horns on top his head, but none on his snout. He had gold stemmed fins with brown behind the gold starting on his head and going down unto his tail which ended with a sharp pointed spiral. The ones on top of his head were the longest, after it they were smaller. The new dragon had amethyst eyes.

Other then being purple and gold, granted different shades, and having spiral tipped tails and white claws, these were the only similarities the two shared.

"Hey Spyro you alright?" came a voice from a glowing yellow insect that came flying next to the recently knocked over drake.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just shocked is all" he replied to the bug.

"Good, I would hate to return home so soon and tell mom and dad you got killed already just by getting run over" he retorted. Looking at the still gaping dragon he starts yelling, "What's wrong with you? You should seriously watch where you're going!"

The drake now looks at the bug with his mouth still open, wider if that's even possible.

"What's the matter, can't speak? Did that hit smack your brain right out of you? Come on say something." getting frustrated that this guy is just starring at him. "I...I'm sorry" came a whispering voice from the now shaking drake.

Seeing a chance to take this further the bug got a glint in its eye. "What was that? I can't hear you! It's not polite to be so quiet when talking with others you know." He couldn't believe this drake was seriously scared because of him.

"Sparxs enough" admonished the one called Spyro to the bug.

"Awwwwe come on bro. I'm just having a little fun. I miss seeing people fear me and start shaking when I come around." Sparx just wanted to keep having fun as long as he could.

"Stop. He's afraid and apparently running from something" Spyro said seriously to Sparx. Looking at the shaking drake in front of him, his own eyes going ride at the sight of his color, he became speechless.

Swallowing after a couple moments of silence, "Uhhh...Sparx you seeing this too? This guys color is real right?" Spyro asked dumbfounded.

Taking another look at the pitiful creature below him and putting his hand under his chin and grabbing the arm with the other, "Hmmm... interesting. Very interesting... Great just what we need, more purple. I thought you were enough. Wonder if he thinks he is a fat dragonfly too?" Sparx said with a snicker at Spyro.

"Hey, I only just found that out recently alright? You know that joke will get old." Spyro replied a little embarrassed.

Laughing and acts like he's wiping a tear away, "Doesn't mean I can't make it last for as long as possible."

Looking at the drake is going back and forth with the bug with a confused look he notices another figure to his left. It's a big red paw and it's connected to an even bigger red male dragon.

With a yelp and shaking all over again, but even more so he looks at the big red dragon. He is covered in red scales with an orange chest and underbelly. His wings are of a darker red compared to the rest of his scales, but not as dark as the little dragons, while his membranes were of the same orange; though the closer they got to the red they grew darker. He had two big horns on top of his head with two smaller ones underneath them down the side of his head; along with a small horn on his snout. His fins seemed like flames were growing on top of his head, below the two small horns, down his back and tail. There was some fur of some sort on both his front shoulders and two small tufts were growing underneath the front of his jaw. On the tip of his tail the fins grew as if like a small flame. All the hair and fins were deep red like his wings though the very tips of them were orange. His eyes were orange and were currently wide at what he was seeing in front of him.

"How...what...this can't be...?" He kept stammering to himself. Shaking his head to clear it he finally got it grinding again to think.

"Who are you young one?" He asked the quaking dragon who was looking back at him.

Opening his mouth to respond he didn't really know what to say. He just kept opening and closing it. Everyone in the cave was starring at him and it made him really nervous.

"I...I don't know..." came a sad and confused answer. Even he never thought of who he was the whole time he was walking.

"How don't you know who you are?" Exclaimed Sparx all of sudden. "You must of hit Spyro pretty hard if you suddenly forgot who you are."

"Sparx stop. Can't you see he is afraid?" Spyro said pointing at the red dragon. He really wanted to ask questions, but knew they would have to do it slowly without scaring him more.

"Yes, Sparx please by quiet for just a few minutes while we get this all sorted out." the red dragon said to the little dragonfly.

"Hmph, I could be helpful too." Sparx crossed his arms and looked away from the drakes.

Spyro shook his head at his brother and looked at the dragon who had just ran into him. "What's your name?" he asked.

"I don't know" came the same answer.

"What?!" Spyro said jerking his head back. "How can someone not know his own name?"

"I don't know..." replied the drake again, looking like he did something wrong.

Ignitus perked in trying to help "Where do you come from child?"

"I don't know. I woke inside some bushes in a clearing." His replied shyly.

"Hmmm, he could of hit his head at some point and passed out in the bush" the big dragon thought to himself. He thought of another question, "Why did you come in here running so quickly?"

The young dragon starts to explain what had transpired outside. "I think they lost me and were searching which way I went" he says after he's done.

"Apes" the red dragon says with anger. Looking at the young dragon he says in a more calmer voice "Don't worry little one, you are among friends now."

"But what if they find us here? What if they did follow me?" he asks, his voice getting higher with concern and fear.

Thinking that what he says is possible the red dragon knew they couldn't stay in this cave much longer, just to be on the safe side. "We were just about to head to the place you were running toward if you'd like to come with us" he says.

"But what if those apes are there too?" the drake says fearfully.

"That's ok child" says the red dragon "Stay by me and you'll be safe."

"Yeah, and if anything comes after ya, just yell and I'll come down and start pounding on them" says Sparx throwing a few punches in the air.

He knew as he had been running that could very well be there, but at the time didn't think about what he would do if they were. He didn't know how to fight. But looking at the big dragon he felt the fear leaving him and knew what he said would be true; he would be safe with him around.

Nodding he says, "Ok, I'll go with you guys. I'll try to stay out of the way though." He did feel kinda useless that he wouldn't be able to help if trouble accord.

"Very well, let's get moving" the big dragon stands up and starts heading back farther into the cave. Heading to where many good, but also some awful memories were held.

Followed by two purple dragons and one slightly annoying dragonfly. "Ancestors, what is going on?" He asks to himself, unsure why the prophecy he believed in seemed wrong.

Post-Author Note: For those that have/ haven't played and are unsure of my descriptions of some the characters or places in any of my chapters, please look them up. If my descriptions weren't accurate, let me know. Tried to fix any grammar mistakes too. Probably missed some since I first wrote this on Wordpad. Same with chapter two. Didn't know at the time it was going to mess with the spacing when I uploaded it.

Not sure if I depicted Sparx's sarcastic and rude character.

Comment to let me know what you think.
