#1 of Awakening

Soft snow flakes drifted down from the night sky and shared with me their loving kiss as they fell upon my bare fur. So cold and tender was their kiss that I was not left wanting. Silence and peace such things so hard to earn, even harder to hold onto once gained. I breathe in and out my breath misting on the cool air as my blue fur slowly becomes matted with the moisture from the melting snow. I stood frozen in time for as long as this moment of eternity lasted.

Unfortunately for me my eternity was shattered by the sound of a drawn sword. "Will you come quietly Kitsune?" they asked me and I turned to face them determination on my face and cold blue fire burning inside my gaze. "You would threaten a freshly awakened being for their nature?" "Your not awakened;Your an abomination, ever since you were born." they replied. The speaker was a black cat quite older than me and with more combat experience. As part of the guard they were tasked with defending the rest of us from rouges and other threats.

So to put it simply I'm outclassed, They've got the knowledge, and the power and I've got nothing but a set of abilities I don't have a clue how to use, Blue fur, and nine tails.Speaking of which as I stared them down my paws ignited in blue flames an open challenge. They seemed to be honorable if nothing else because, they stowed their blade instead of rushing me with it. Instead they pulled out some finger less gloves from a pouch on their belt and slipped them on before making a fit and taking a ready stance seemingly waiting for me to make the first move.

I took a breath and focused on them and as I did so my brain seemed to kick into high gear. I saw every detail of their person from their muscle detail to their eyes color and I so I started forward. Something happened in the moment that they moved their foot forward. In that single moment when their foot touched the ground I knew almost instantly what they were going to be doing. I raised my hands to block the strike and though I slid back quite a few feet in the snow I somehow managed to come through that uninjured.

The cat followed with several more attacks and I was able to dodge around them with somewhat astonishing ease. Some part of me was spectating this fight and beginning to wonder what the fuck was going on.Seeing an opening I knew just where to stroke to do the most damage and how hard I needed to hit them. It was almost as If I was seeing their body as a whole, seeing how it breathed and functioned and just knew where and how to do the most damage.

I had never gotten in a fight in my life and yet this felt as natural to me as breathing. Soon after I made my attack hitting the nerve endings making the cat collapse paralyzed at my feet I began to walk back towards the town. No longer was I at peace, cold fury radiated from every pore of my being. Strong enough to rival the chill of the weather around me. As I walked I used a tail to drag the immobile cat back with me, taking special care to bash their head on every stone I passed by.

Once I reached our town transformed into stone buildings topped by white snow and embraced by the howling wind I was not surprised to find no one about. Good thing then that I knew my way around right? I marched straight to the Alpha's house and after some wind up through the cat in through the window. "IF this is how you treat a freshly awakened being then I declare myself and exile from this pack. Send a better play thing next time." I turned and walked away. As I did so my backpack was thrown out of my bedroom window I just grabbed in passing noting it was heavier than I remembered and guessed the reason why.

If there was one thing that I could count on, it was my mother's love and I held onto that knowledge as I walked away from the only place I had ever known and into the sweet embrace of winter which made careful, and passionate love to me as I passed through it's many embraces on the wind.My mother's love kept me warm even despite the cold around me.

I walked into eternity until I could walk no longer and when I finally stopped I collapsed into the entrance of a cave and thought no more. I felt no more, I did not feel or reason, I simply existed in that moment with nothing but my exhaustion to keep me company. Quite good company exhaustion makes too, soothing my aching muscles and making the floor soft as heather stuffed mattress. Warm blankets and the smell of soup. Good fond memories does exhaustion bring to the surface of your mind as you rest.

As I slept the Awakening Ceremony played through my mind. Twice a year when the newborn's are able, they are brought to the Awakening stone and placed on it's surface one at a time. The whole community gather's to watch such. The Awakening is a very special event in our community. An awakened being, has the power's and capabilities of certain creatures. Like a dragon, for example, or a shaman. Depending on what the stone shows the kid will be highly respected or highly scorned through no fault of their own. They would never know why either until they reached age thirteen. At that age the change would take place and their bodies would change to show their awakened characteristics. Me well I was feared and treated like a monster growing up by the community. The Alphas even feared me and I never knew why until I sprouted fur and tails.

Mom had always treated me right, not matter what the other's in the pack did, and her love helped me through my hard times. I could take a lot of stress and hate from other people, I would bottle it up until I couldn't take it anymore, and if you got in the way during my "release" sessions then you had better hope you are able to run fast. My friend exhaustion must have decided I needed a black void more than my memories and gently led me to such. I followed and happily accepted the nothingness.

Well when the strange fox collapsed at the entrance to our den I didn't consider them being dangerous. They were snoring to loudly for that, from the look of them they were quite young and had been traveling for many many days. I do not know how they survived as their pack of provisions and clothes looked to be untouched.

I quickly pulled them further into our den deeper into the darker tunnels and got them into a bed. I didn't have the first clue on how to check on a fox but I'd do my best to try. Here in the darkness of the medical chamber it was easier for my light sensitive eyes to give me a clearer picture of what I was dealing with. The outer fur seemed to be frozen solid so I heaped enough blankets on the fox to start to warm them up. They didn't even seem to react to such as if they were lost in their own mind and the sensations on their body were not penetrating their awareness.

I couldn't do anything for them but prepare some soup and carefully help them to drink it. Then I left them alone to resume my patrol duty. I couldn't do anything after all. It was up to time now. However, I was curious as to why such a young one was wandering the storm alone. I nodded to my fellow badger's as I passed them. It was about midnight for us, and I would soon be cherishing my bed. I supposed that I could stay the night with my discovery just to make sure that they didn't cause any harm to the rest of us.

Again I doubted they wold be much of a problem in their current state, but it couldn't hurt to be prepared just in case they woke. I reentered the medical chamber and put my bedroll beside them before I conked out. Badger's are quite heavy sleepers and woe betide anyone that dare to wake us up as we slumbered. A sleepy, angry badger is not a very nice thing to deal with.

Ever so slowly I began to pry exhaustion's touch from my mind. My friend was unwilling to let me go but I insisted and they relented. I was in a cave in the complete darkness except for a single glowing crystal along the back wall. It didn't give much light to the chamber but my ears as they began to function informed me that someone or something was asleep beside me.

I quieted my breathing just in case they were faking it and did my best to look around though the feeble light didn't help the darkness any. I sighed internally and focused on thoughts of warmth and fire. A small spark danced to life on one of my tails which made me smile. It was a small flame not enough to wake whoever was next to me but enough to allow me to see more of my current environment.

The creature beside me was revealed to be a badger. At least that was my best guess about such. They were slumbering quite heavily as I already mentioned and I'm not stupid enough to try and wake a sleeping creature. I rose to my feet and then checked the ceiling out of sudden remembrance and was glad I did or I was have banged my head.

The low ceiling was perfect for badger's but not really designed for anything else. Though I suppose I could get used to staying at my current height. However In checking the ceiling again it seemed as if it had moved up which had me puzzled. I was able to stand fully erect now.So that raised the question...did my desire to want to be able to stand move the ceiling upwards? Or was it simply my mind playing tricks? I honestly did not know.

At any rate I decided that it did not truly matter now. I slung off my pack and flipped through what I had, before getting the makings of a meal out and quietly began to chow. It wasn't much but I was used to it by this point. When my meal was complete I packed away the trash from it and then slowly got up and went to explore. I wasn't able to see much but the glowing crystals here and there along the walls helped. Though for the most part I was blind. I risked lighting my tail again keeping the flame small as I moved about and found the going easier.

The badgers had done quite well in their construction with this place having expanded it quite far to suit their needs. I was honestly impressed by their attention to detail as I walked along. I hoped I was heading to a bathing chamber and due to the smell of water I can tell that I was close. When I found the chamber I was temporarily blinded by steam.

I was also surprised to find that I had a bathing companion. I checked the wall looking for an indicator to make sure that I had chosen the male section of the showers and found no such discerning mark. Well my nose had been able to tell me many things before but I didn't wish to use it for this purpose.

"Well wandering Fox are you going to join me?" said the badger and the voice was decidedly masculine in tone. I shrugged and slipped off what I had to ease gently into the water. Seems it was heated from a hot spring and it felt soothing in and around my fur. "Not a bad view youngster." they replied jokingly and I blushed but also felt a tad bit sick. "Youngster? Just how old are you?"

"Easy easy, I'm fourteen, close to your age, but I couldn't resist joking around a bit." I scowled at them for the joke and then sighed before looking for then grabbing a bar of soap and beginning to clean myself. I had apparently added several gallons of water from the frozen snow in my fur.which also apparently had accumulated quite a bit of dirt.

Whoever the badger was I ignored them more focused on my bathing than worrying about conversation or being embarrassed over my figure. When I was done I slowly began to relax the warm water helping that along quite well I imagine. I couldn't help it. I fell asleep on the edge of the warm pool my body floating softly in the warm embrace.
