Slowly Michael looked to the sky as the moon slowly shone down upon them through the thicket of trees. Slowly he looked back to Rose as she stopped walking and moved to sit down under a tree slowly while brushing her rose red bangs from her eyes.

"We have to rest for a while...I feel like my legs are going to fall off." she gave a soft whine. Soon Michael moved to sit down next to her with a soft sigh.

"Yeah...we have been walking for some time...are you sure ya saw a city this way?" he looked to her as he reached into his pocket, pulling out a small metal container, opening it up and pulling out two strips of dried meat for them both.

"Yeah I know I saw one... maybe we're going the wrong way?" she replied softly, mostly talking to her self. Michael sighed inwardly as he took a bite of meat. He then looked up to the moon once more with a shrug.

"With out a good map or any real knowledge of which way is West or East...North or South...we're totally lost."

Rose groaned her agreement while taking the meat that was offered her and sighed. "What do you think will happen?"

"Rose...I told you already...I don't know what will happen now...I..." he slowly trailed off before looking down to the ground. "I'm sorry I pulled you into this." he looked up to the full moon.

"I'm glad you did. I would rather be on the run with you than someone else whom I don't love." she replied softly while looking up to the moon as well, her tail idly twitching from side to side slowly. "He's up there watching us."

"Hm?" he slowly looked to the Collie beside him. "Who?"

"Terry." she replied softly, a tear forming in her eye before it rolled down her cheek. "He was a strong and caring man, always wanting to help people, even those who treated him like dirt." she slowly wiped the tear away before shaking her head as she softly moved her paw to her left wrist to mess with the gold and platinum bracelet that was a symbol of mateship.

"I guess I can relate." Michael spoke up slowly while reaching into another pocket and removing a pack of off brand cigarettes and a cheap lighter. "My mothers up there somewhere as well."

Of all the times he had been around the lovely collie, never had he spoken about his past much, besides what happened during his training. Everything else he had kept deep inside himself, and this had caused Rose to look at him slowly, her ears perked up slightly.

"I figured you to have a happy childhood."

"You would think." he replied as he shook his head slowly before blowing smoke from his nose, the Menthol leaving a cooling feeling in his mouth and nose. "Six long years..."

"Six? Oh...You poor child." Rose replied softly as she placed a paw softly upon Michaels shoulder, her ears pinned back against her skull. "How did she die?"

"Terminal illness. Cancer." he shook his head slightly while resting his hand upon her paw. "I joined the Federation, and buried myself into studying. And here I am...on the run with a beautiful Collie."

"Yeah, funny how that works huh?" Rose quipped before snickering. "You're cheap." she pointed to the off brand smokes and lighter. Michael gave a soft laugh as he shook his head slowly, holding up the lighter.

"Ah, money is nothing...just a figure, a desire...one can do so much." he then looked at her slowly with a smile. "Just because I am cheap on certain things doesn't mean that..."

"Your cheap on anything else." Rose chimed in quickly with a grin.

"Right."

Slowly the collie stretched before giving a yawn. "I think we should find a place to stay the night...start out again tomorrow." she said while standing up, using one of her paws to brush off the dirt on her pants. Slowly Michael got up before he looked around slowly.

"Umhm. Lets get some rest."

Slowly Rose moved along the area before kneeling down beside a tree, patting softly at the ground before she laid down. She watched as Michael idly went along picking up small branches from the ground, before moving to a clear spot near by and set to work on building a small fire. Slowly the soft glow of flames illuminated the darkness, casting a soft amber glow upon the young human. Softly the collie sighed in a near dream like state, her green eyes watching every move he made, fascinated by him more than before...the way the firelight danced across his blonde hair, the soft shine in his eyes as he fed the fire. The dark silence of the woods chased away by the crackling wood. Slowly Michael sat down beside the fire, taking out his handgun and checking over it slowly before he emptied the clip, checking each and every round before loading them one by one back into the clip and slipping it once more into the gun.

"This brings back memories."

The statement brought the collie out of her daydream before she shook her head. "Huh, how so?"

"I used to go camping all the time when I was young...the desire to be out in the woods, against the elements and such...something that just made me feel free." he slowly spoke while nudging a burning branch with a stick before he looked to her. "Bout you, Rose? Any fond memories.?"

Slowly she got up and walked over, sitting down slowly near the fire. "A few." she looked to him with a smile. "When I was just a pup, growing up in north west Georgia I used to spend all my time outdoors. It used to drive my parents crazy, thinking something would happen to me...the way all parents do." slowly she picked up a stick and started idly tapping the ground with the end. "When I moved out, I went someplace I could be at one with the world...so I moved into the woods, had a nice home too. I lived the best I knew how back then...than I was pulled to the city when the war started. They needed everyone who was able, y'know." she then looked to him once more. "Bout you.?"

"Me?" he looked up slightly. "Well...I grew up in South west Florida...spent my time working and all that. Originally I was from Illinois...but I never spent any time there because my family moved me down south."

"Yankee." Rose quipped.

"Right. By birth yes...but I lived in the south for my whole life, that I can be considered a Redneck. I moved to Texas when people started moving in around me...Neighbors couldn't stand what I had, and ended up chasing me out. After that...I was living away from everyone, not many friends, nor any more family. Once the war started, I had nothing else to lose so I joined in."

"Now look what you got. A Ol' Collie and no more job, talk about a major loss in the retirement check." Rose replied softly, causing Michael to laugh softly, soon she too started to laugh, caught by her own smart remark. Slowly she got up and moved to sit beside him, putting her arm around his neck as she nuzzled against his cheek.

"Well I'll tell you this...I can live with out the money...but I couldn't live with out you, Rosie."

"Same here." she replied before giving him a soft lick on the cheek. She then laid down and smiled. "Come and join me, no one will bother us. I need someone to keep me warm anyways."

"You got all the fur, I should be saying that "You" should be the one keeping "Me" warm." he retorted with a grin as he laid down next to her, taking her softly in his arms as he kissed her cheek. "I love you, Rose."

"And I, you." she replied before nuzzling close to him and falling asleep. Silently Michael laid beside her, watching her, while running his fingers through her silky smooth hair, then the fur on her cheek. So much has went on in his life, so much pain that had overshadowed his joy...but now...now he had something to live for, someone to love...someone who brought joy back into the darkness of his soul, someone he loved with every fiber of his being. There was nothing in this world, or galaxy for that matter, that would keep him away from protecting her. Slowly his eyes grew heavy before he joined her in peaceful slumber.

When morning came, Rose slowly opened her eyes, yawning before she noticed her lover, standing near a tree, looking at a stream twenty feet away, his stance like some cool, calm, person from a blockbuster movie, a soft wave of steel blue smoke drifted up slowly from him. Slowly she got up and stretched before walking up beside him. "Beautiful." she looked to him slowly.

"Who? Me or the water.?" he grinned, causing the collie to slug him softly in the shoulder, before he gave a fake mock of pain. "Owwie." he looked at her and gave a sniffle. "Meany."

"Oh shush you big baby, I didn't hit you that hard." she gave a snort.

"Yush you did." he replied before speaking once more. "Look...you broke it." he then pretended his arm was broke, swaying it limply.

"Cut it out. That's not funny." she looked at him before she walked to the edge of the stream, looking at the water, her tail swishing behind her lazily.

Slowly he walked up behind her before reaching in front of her, pointing down at her feet. "Hey, what's that?"

"What's what?" she replied, looking down at where he was pointing to, unaware of his intentions before she felt a quick shove on her back, losing her footing and falling into the water with a surprised yelp. She then got up, looking back to him as he stood there laughing. "You asshole."

"You look like a drowned rat." he quipped, laughing so hard at the sight of her in the water, her wet fur clinging to her like a second skin. Soon he gave a yell of surprise when he felt her grab his belt and jerk him into the water, falling backwards as well, both of them making a slash. Soon he sat up looking at her as she started laughing. He gave a slight growl before he pounced on her. "Don't Laugh at me!" he started tickling her, having the advantage over the laughing, squirming collie. But unaware to both of them, the shadows moving closer through the woods toward them.

They both placed there weapons on the shore before jumping into the deep part of the water, splashing one another in a battle to make the other submit, there laughter mixing in the morning sky. Soon Rose decided to do things her way and got up close to him before placing both her paws on his head and dunking him under the water before pulling him back up, but unknown to her that he had planned ahead for it and when he had clear aim, he spat a stream of water in her face, causing her to reel backwards away from him. He then used the advantage he gained to get her in his arms, pulling her close to him as he placed a soft kiss to her muzzle, erecting a soft murr from the collie. Soon he softly broke the kiss, looking at her.

"I guess that's enough fun for now. We have to start heading toward that city you saw." he said softly as he brushed the bangs from her eyes as she caught her breath before giving a nod. Slowly he turned to step out of the water before he froze in his spot, looking up at the barrel of a high powered plasma rifle aimed at him. "Oh shit."

"What's wrong.?" Rose replied before stopping behind him, seeing the rifle, slowly both of them looked to the handler of the weapon, seeing a black armored trooper standing over there weapons. Around them was a small group of armored troops, all equipped with the same high powered rifles, and large handguns.

"Will you two come with us?" spoke the trooper as he slowly kneeled down to take both handguns that rested upon the ground before tossing them over to another who stood not far away. "Please."

Slowly the both of them stepped from the water, there suits dripping slightly. Michael then looked to Rose with a lopsided grin.

"Good thing these suits are water proof and tight eh?" he quipped.

"Do you think its wise to make jokes at this time?" Rose retorted.

"I'm stressed, I'm looking down a rifle barrel...it helps me." he replied before watching a few of the troopers move behind them, and the leader walk away. "Guess we follow."

Rose gave a slight nod, moving beside him when he started walking behind the leader, the rest of the troopers following close behind them before they was led to a large armored transport sitting silently off the path, its design was like that of a large IBC Tank but near thirty feet long; and taken onboard. Slowly Michael looked around the large transport before he noticed a logo on the wall of a police badge symbol and a blue lightning bolt in the center.

"Royal Police." he whispered softly to Rose, who looked at him quickly.

Soon the trooper turned to them and removed its helmet, reviling a young male Fox. His fur a deep jet black, and his eyes a sky blue. "You are from the Global Federation Military yes?"

"Was." Michael replied quickly.

"Deserters?"

"We was betrayed by our commander, and sent into the middle of a whole Racelian Fleet." Michael snorted.

"The Global Federation has been at odds with the Racelian's since this war started...we saw your ship...its being taken to our base, and judging by how badly damaged it was...I see you are telling the truth. The GFM doesn't have any pull in this system...you will be safe for now." the fox spoke before smiling. "I'm Sergeant Jonathan Velton.."

"Lieutenant Michael Valentine, and this is Lieutenant Rose Luna." Michael replied while taking Roses paw in his hand. "It's good to know we have friends here."

"The Royal Police are willing to help all those who are innocent. Welcome to Tevenya...fourth planet in the Delta system."

"Your ground gave me a nice welcome yesterday." Michael snickered. "Ever think of some airbags.?" he laughed softly, the small joke made everyone else laugh softly before going about there small tasks on the way back to where ever the base was located. As Michael and Rose looked to one another with a slight grin...they was safe for now.
