The storm raged on violently, rain fell like barrage of gunfire from the skies exploding upon impact against the ground.

“Joshua, you aren’t going to believe what we found.” Chica said in amazement over the radio as she watched Freddy and Bonnie carefully move pieces of scrap out of the way and between them pull old, battered Machines out from their make-shift tomb.

“I can guess Chica, I think me and Wolfie just had the same luck.” Joshua replied as he watched Wolfie singlehandedly pull large, wide machines out from the mountain of metal.

“You found some?” Chica asked with amazement.

“We found some.” Joshua replied.

Wolfie pulled out a large battered purple machine and laid it on the ground before peering inside the hole.

“Tell her I think we found the whole classic set.” She called out over the sound of the rain and thunder.

“We got us the whole classic set.” Joshua repeated into the radio.

“I think we found the plastic 80s models.” Chica informed him, pausing as a strong gust of wind blew across the junkyard. “How’re we gunna get these guys out of here?”

“I’ll go ask the guy if we can borrow his pick-up.” Joshua exclaimed.

“Don’t even think of it!” Wolfie shot back, turning and pointing at him while giving him a stern expression, “not in this weather, in this place where anything could come loose.”

“Well what about the animatronics? We can’t leave them here like this now that we’ve found them.” Joshua argued.

Wolfie looked to the remains of the previous Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie the Bunny then to the remaining two animatronics still trapped inside the mountain of scrap.

“We’ll go together, and I’ll take the machines.” Wolfie stated, leaving no room for argument.

“But these guys will too…” Joshua had tried to argue that her carrying the machines would slow them down, only for Wolfie to reach down, grab both seven-foot steel animatronics in each hand and sling them over her shoulders, she winced at the sudden extra weight but stood strong.

“Well? Let’s get moving.” Wolfie declared.

It took them several minute to return to the Junkyard owner’s residence, Joshua knocked on the door, hoping that the man was still awake, they heard shuffling from the other side and then the tell-tale noise of locks coming undone. The door opened and the old man was standing there, shotgun in his right hand.

“Yeah?” he asked.

“Can we borrow your pick-up truck?” Joshua asked.

The old man Fitzgerald looked to Joshua then turned his attention to the animatronic behind him, his gaze then focused on what she was carrying on either shoulder.

“You found them?” he asked. Joshua thought he could hear some amazement in the man’s words, that or horror.

“We did.” Joshua replied.

The man pulled his focus from the soaked Machine and looked to Joshua, “let me get my keys, and be careful driving around, don’t knock anything over.” He old man disappeared into his home leaving Josh and Wolfie to wait in the rain.

“You’re gunna catch your death of cold out here.” Wolfie complained to him.

“I’ll be fine Wolfie … I hope.” He said muttering the last part.

“Well don’t come complaining to me when you get sick.” She replied with frustration.

Josh chuckled quietly before looking over his shoulder at Wolfie, “When we get back I’ll make sure to turn on the heating or get some soup, I swear.” He promised hoping to appease her.

“Alright,” she began, then grinned at him, “or we could snuggle together and get warm.” She suggested.

“While you’re soaking wet?” he replied in a joking manner while wearing a smug grin over his face.

Wolfie glanced down at herself, she was soaked, while her fur-suit was water proof, her clothes weren’t, so she would be cold to the touch. “I see your point.” She conceded.

The pair’s attention as brought back to the house and the man came back, he opened the door and gave Joshua the keys.

“I doubt you’ll want them to get wetter.” He grumbled with indifference, “there’s some tarp in the garage, you can use that if you like … don’t touch nothin’ else.” He warned then closed the door and began to lock it.

Joshua glanced to Wolfie then quickly made his way to the pick-up truck next to the garage he unlocked the vehicle, started it up then carefully drove forward and turned so the bed was facing Wolfie, Joshua got out and pulled down the latch at the back of the bed allowing Wolfie to carefully throw the older Animatronics onto the pick-up.

“Hey!” the old man called gaining their attentions, “come get this tarp, I don’t want my garage getting wet!” he yelled.

Josh heard Wolfie mumble something indecent quietly, something about shoving the tarp somewhere warm and dark.

“You get in the pick-up I’ll get the tarp, make sure you put the heater on.” Wolfie instructed the young man before marching off towards the garage.

As she approached the garage the old man took a step to the side, to allow her to get the tarp, she paused briefly glancing around the garage, it was fairly large, spacious, almost everything was covered with old dusty blankets, made her curious what was under them. She knelt down and picked up the tarp before dragging it to the pickup truck and threw it over the animatronics to keep them as dry as possible.

Wolfie quickly moved to the front of the truck and climbed in to the passenger’s seat.

“We’ve got the truck now; we’ll meet up with you.” Joshua said over the radio then turned his attention to Wolfie as she climbed in, “we should go find the others first since they’ve already pulled out all the animatronics they’ve found.”

“Good plan,” Wolfie replied as she closed the door.

Joshua started up the truck while passing Wolfie the radio. It took a few minutes to directly pin point the others’ location but they eventually found them, with three animatronics laid on the ground.

“About time you got here, we’re soaking wet!” Chica complained at Wolfie got out of the jeep.

“Stay inside Josh, keep warm.” She told him before making her way to the others, “got here as quick as we could duck.” Wolfie bit back at Chica.

“Ladies, this is not the time.” Freddy interjected between them with frustration, “we need to get the older models onto the jeep pronto!”

“We’ll have to be careful, these things are pretty heavy.” Bonnie added as he carefully lifted his Toy variant.

Wolfie took note of the animatronics before looking to Freddy, “Where’s Foxy?” she asked over the storm.

Freddy shook his head, “We couldn’t see anything else in there with them, I’d have guessed they’d have put them all together for convenience sake.”

That made sense as the other animatronics had been found together, shame a full set would’ve been nice. She walked over to the other two inert animatronics, reached down and took a grip of their endoskeleton through their broken plastic shells then hoisted them over her shoulders before marching off to the back of the truck.

Chica and Bonnie just watched with shock at the sight of Wolfie’s strength as they lifted Toy Bonnie from the wet ground, Freddy however simply took note of it moved quickly to follow Wolfie and aid her in putting the animatronics on the bed.

“I’ll get the latch and move the tarp!” he announced as he caught up to Wolfie and did as he said, he pulled open the bed’s latch, took the tarp into his hand then carefully climbed up while moving the tarp out of the way, once up he moved the tarp back taking a brief note of their predecessors before nodding to Wolfie whom hoisted Toy Freddy and Chica onto the bed just as Chica and Bonnie appeared from the side of the truck with Toy Bonnie in their hands.

Between the pair the lifted Toy Bonnie onto the bed before Freddy recovered them with the tarp.

“Not all of us will fit in the jeep.” Wolfie announced.

“Then Bonnie and I will lay under the tarp.” Freddy called back.

“Why do I gotta?!” Bonnie whimpered.

“Because we’re the widest.” Freddy replied as he lifted the tarp near his feet and climbed under it, “come on or we’re all gunna get wetter.”

“I don’t think we could get wetter.” Chica complained as she looked at her soaked suit.

“Awww man.” Bonnie whined, he didn’t like the idea of lying next to, what were pretty much, dead bodies, sure made of metal, but dead none the less, it was super creepy in his opinion. Reluctantly he climbed up and got under the tarp making sure to stay near Freddy.

Chica made her way to the passenger door while Wolfie locked up truck’s bed before following the avian machine.

“Oh man, dry and warmth!” Chica exhaled in a human like manner as she sat down beside Joshua.

“You’re telling me, some night right?” he asked as he looked through the windscreen to the sky above.

“You would wanna come here in weather like this.” Chica complained as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“I thought ducks liked water.” Wolfie said snidely as she opened the door and got in, her fur and clothes dripping from the rain.

“No fighting while I’m driving please.” Joshua said immediately as he saw Chica’s expression turn dark and open her mouth to say something back. “Save it for later please ladies.”

“Well said!” Freddy’s voice was heard from the bed of truck, the animatronic bear could be seen shuffling along closer towards them, with Bonnie not too far behind, the tarp lifted with the faces of Bonnie and Freddy appearing through the rear window, the former looking rather disturbed by the fact dead animatronics were only a few feet from him.

“We have to stop by where we were before and get the others.” Joshua told him through the glass, Freddy nodded in understanding, Joshua looked to Wolfie, “You know the way back?”

“Just follow my instructions.” She replied, she’d made a small digital map of the routes they’d taken, so finding where they needed to be would be easy.

And it was as within a few minutes they were right back where they’d located the older Freddy and Bonnie. Wolfie turned her attention to Freddy and Bonnie whom were looking through the window.

“You both stay there, I’ll get them, just be ready to move the tarp.” She instructed, Freddy seemed content with the idea. “You two stay here.” She said to Joshua and Chica.

“No complaint here.” Chica replied, happy as her faux feathers had started to dry.

“You sure?” Joshua asked still eager to help.

“I’m sure, you’re gunna catch your death of cold out in this weather, stay here where it’s warm and dry.” She ordered him before opening the door and getting out into the stormy weather, Chica immediately reached out and slammed the door shut, the big bad wolf animatronic glared at her through the door and muttered a curse under her metaphorical breath.

She made her way back to the hole she’d created, where the old Foxy and Chica were laid to rest, she peered inside finding the pair still insert. Now there would be a problem; Chica and Foxy had become a part of the founding of the scrap mountain, removing could make the entire thing collapse or fall over, it could possibly fall of the truck and that was a safety risk she wasn’t willing to take. She looked back to the pieces of scrap she’d removed, perhaps she could build a new foundation … maybe.

“You okay there Wolfie?!” Joshua called out from the truck.

She turned back to look at him, “Just give me a minute!”. She gathered up all the disposed of scrap she’d moved, and brought it back to the hole. Carefully she manoeuvred the broken washing machine inside the hole before placing various other damaged home utensils on top of it till it touched the ceiling of the animatronic tomb, she scanned the structure and deemed it safe enough to move the old steel machines, she leaned further into the hole and reached towards the old fox pirate, reaching into the hole in the fur suit’s chest she took a firm grip on his endoskeleton and carefully eased him out of the hole, and placed him on the cold wet ground then reached back in for old Chica grabbing the animatronic bird and carefully pulled her out and hoisted her onto her shoulder before reaching down and picking up the inert fox.

She marched back to the truck at a greater pace to avoid getting the machines any wetter than necessary. “Freddy,” she called as she drew close to the truck’s bed, “the tarp!”

The brown bear stood up and pulled the tarp back, “Just throw them on! Bonnie will catch them!”

“No I won’t.” Bonnie squeaked in fear, no one heard him it seemed as the next thing he knew two large steel animatronics were being thrown over the side to him. “AAAHHHH!” with a dull thunk the machines landed on him, the impact softened only slightly due to the fur suits. “That hurt … I think.”

Freddy helped him from under the older animatronics before pulling the tarp back over them both.

Wolfie got back into the truck where it was much warmer.

“Alright, we need something to tie them up with so they don’t go rolling around in the back of the truck, the owner should have something like that too.” Joshua told them as Wolfie closed the door.

Wolfie nodded and shook her body like a dog drying itself, sending water everywhere.

“Hey, hey! I’m just getting dry and warm here!” Chica complained as she tried to protect herself from the sudden showering.

Wolfie didn’t reply and just smirked snidely at the frustrated chicken. Joshua simply shook his head with a roll of his eyes while mouthing silently “women” before starting up the truck again and heading back towards the junkyard owners home.

The group made it back to the house, the light was still on in the window behind the blinds.

“Stays up late don’t he?” Chica commented.

“Probably because we’re here Chica, I’m guessing he’d have closed up and gone to bed hours ago if we weren’t here.” Joshua replied adjusting the truck’s position so the bed was facing the garage. “I’ll go talk to him, you guys prepare to move the animatronics.”

He got out and walked to the front door just as it opened, surprising the young man.

“I heard ya’ pull up, what do you need now?” the old man asked with disinterest.

“Just wondering if you have anything we could use to keep the old animatronics from rolling around in the truck.” Joshua explained.

“I do, I’ll open up the garage, let you do it in the dry while I get the straps.” He turned to leave then paused and turned back to Joshua, “Just don’t touch nothin’.” He ordered before continuing into his home and locking the door behind him.

‘Creepy guy.’ Joshua thought to himself before making his way to the truck, Wolfie was already out of the truck waiting for the garage doors to open, while Chica stayed in the nice warm pick-up truck.

“He’s just opening up the garage then getting us some straps!” Joshua called over the sound of the rain.

“Good, I think it’s getting heavier.” Wolfie called back as she risked a glance to the sky, a single large drop of rain landed in her eye, the rain water flowed across the organic material and seeped through the corners of her socket, she blinked and looked back to Josh.

The pair’s attention was taken from another as the garage door began to open once more, the old man looked at them briefly before motioning them inside. “And don’t touch nothin’.” He repeated before going back into his house, closing the connecting door from the garage and the rest of the house behind him.

Wolfie emitted a realistic wolf like snarl as her lips curled back a little revealing her hard metal, bleached white teeth.

“Hey knock it off, we better get them inside.” He said elbowing Wolfie slightly causing her to focus on him.

“You’re right, sorry, you get inside we’ll bring the robots.” Wolfie instructed him and gently pushed him towards the open garage door.

“Alright, alright. I’m going.” He quickly made his way out of the rain.

Freddy stood up and pulled up the tarp from the animatronics as Wolfie unlatched the gate on the bed. It was a co-ordinated effort but they were able to get all seven animatronics onto the cold concrete floor of the garage.

It was now, Joshua took a good long look at what they’d recovered. All four of the animatronics from the 90s pizzeria, the tall seven-foot steel machine were battered, broken, the suits torn and shredded revealing the intern workings some parts rusted and beaten looking fragile, like the simplest touch would cause them to snap.

The toy variants fared no better, their plastic shells cracked and shattered like an old porcelain doll. Their once pretty pale colours now withered and faded with age and decay, their once pleasant faces now rotten and disfigured from weathering, looking less like childish dreams and more like horrific nightmares.

It was now, looking into the empty black eye sockets of the old Freddy Fazbear that Joshua wondered if bringing these things back to life was the right idea, these machines that had killed so many people, ruined the lives of many more and made his father take years of counselling just so he could sleep at night without waking in a sweat every day. Was it right to bring back these sources of suffering after so long?

Joshua turned his attention to the newest generation; Freddy, Bonnie and Chica, his friends. He took note of how much different they were than their predecessors, so much more alive even with their plastic eyes, more sophisticated, so much more approachable than the seven foot monsters. They looked real, their construction was highly advanced, small pieces of metal in the face connecting the skull to the suits face, shifting around to allow the animatronics to mimic facial expressions.

And then there was Wolfie.

“Shame we couldn’t get the full set.” Chica commented pulling Joshua from his thoughts.

The others agreed, Joshua simply hummed in confirmation as he looked back to the offline machines, they were still missing Toy Foxy.

“You guys sure it wasn’t in there?” Joshua asked as he looked to the others.

“Couldn’t see it in there.” Freddy replied factually

“Didn’t see it sorry.” Bonnie said regretfully while scratching the back of his head. A reaction he’d picked up.

“I told you we couldn’t see it in there.” Chica said with slight indignity, before crossing her arms.

Wolfie glared at the chicken for a moment before returning her attention to Joshua, “Didn’t see it in there, Josh I took a long good look.” She confirmed.

Joshua just nodded before kneeling down to get a closer look at older machines.

“They definitely reek.” Joshua commented as the smell of damp rotten material and faux fur wafted into his nose, he grimaced while wafting the smell away from his nostrils. He knew he couldn’t do anything to change the smell so he dived back in to take a closer look at the internal workings. His hand brushed against the torn gaping hole in Foxy’s chest looking at the simple yet advanced steel endoskeleton on the inside. For things originally made in the early 80s, they were decades ahead in the field of robotics, they could likely teach a few modern things a thing or two, present company not included of course, but still; 80s’ technology above and beyond its best, everything fit together in perfect unison working as a literal well-oiled machine. Well maybe not so well-oiled anymore, the internals had been seriously weakened from weathering, the steel alloy going rusty, parts had already begun to be eaten away with time.

‘This old sea dog isn’t getting up and moving around in his current state.’ Joshua thought to himself. He noticed the others, minus Wolfie, take a look at other Animatronics.

Chica looked at her two predecessors, seemingly comparing them to each other and to herself. She noted the similarities between both of them to her, she was by design similar to her Toy variant, a somewhat more feminine design as compared to the larger bulky ‘classic’ Chica, though she lacked the obvious pink thong. Like the bulky one her bib was adorned with “Lets Eats!” rather than “Lets Party!”, her own body was created with a more detailed and realistic down rather than the slightly shaggy fuzz that adorned the older machine.

She gazed into their eyes, wondering what had gone wrong with them in the past for them to destroy the franchise that she and her fellows had aided in resurrecting like a phoenix from its’ ashes.

Bonnie knelt down beside his toy self, taking in the faded blue paint, the remains of the steel endoskeleton. He frowned before glancing at the larger Bonnie. From what could be seen, the classic models had a more simplistic endoskeleton design, but was comparatively larger, thicker. The larger Bonnie was missing an arm, parts of its left leg, he wondered how that had happened while the others were more or less whole. He remembered hearing Joshua tell them stories that his dad had told him about the older Bonnie, how it would attack first every night how it almost killed him one time, suffice to say, he could understand why someone was creeped out by it, the large damage Bonnie was giving him the willies.

Freddy simply stood behind Joshua calmly, looking between the two Freddys. How could things have gone so wrong? Wasn’t the role of Freddy meant to be a leader? A moral character? Perhaps they had been at least during the day then the night turned them into killers not quite like their resident Wolf. He had heard various rumours, read news articles from the past online, some blamed faulty wiring or glitched programming others blamed it on ghosts and the supernatural. But what had really happened? Had it been ghosts? Was there actually such a thing? Or was it just from bad programming error? He didn’t know, he’d have liked to, but perhaps the past should be laid to rest in the past. Though he had to admit … both Freddys were definitely handsome looking devils, quite like himself.

Wolfie meanwhile wasn’t looking at Foxy, she was walking aimlessly around the garage, her mind was curious at all the sheet covered knick-knacks the creepy junkyard owner had. From the shapes she could make out a motorcycle, lifting the dusty sheet revealed it to be an old Harley Davison vintage early 1970s … probably worth a small fortune. He had other weird knick-knacks, vintage stuff from the 80s hanging on the walls, beer company logos, motorcycle ornaments, a few little toys. Definitely interesting.

“Wolfie, the guy said no to touch anything.” Joshua whispered aloud hoping the guy wouldn’t come back.

“I heard what he said,” she replied before her voice changed to that of the old man’s, “don’t touch nothin’” she quoted before her voice changed back, “which is a double negative so I can touch things.”

Wolfie.” Joshua growled with frustration.

Wolfie laughed, amused at Joshua’s fright of the man, then again being held at gun point would do that to some people, she looked at a strange covered piece unable to make out the object underneath until she pulled back the sheet. She immediately froze in place, her smile gone, her eyes wide.

“Josh … you might want to come look at this.” Wolfie said in a quiet shocked tone of voice.

Joshua glanced to the door way then quickly made his way over to her. “What’ve you found Wolfie?” he asked with disinterest, until he laid eyes upon it. “Oh my god.” He gasped as he took in everything he saw.

“What are you doing!? I told you not to touch anything.” The man’s voice came from the doorway, he didn’t sound amused nor really overly angry.

“Actually, you might want to explain yourself.” Wolfie said in a cold stern voice and she turned to glare at him. “What are you doing with this?” she pulled the sheet off from the item and the others gasped at what they saw.

Toy Foxy or better known as The Mangle, the machine had been twisted into a terrible shape, smashed up worse than the others and transformed into a horrifying display, with the words “Monster” “Whore” “Demon” and other vulgar terms written all over it.

“What the?” Chica gasped.

All eyes turned to the old man whom let out an old tired sigh.

“Why would you do this?” Joshua asked in shock.

The old man gave a Joshua an exhausted look, “That machine,” he began as if a large weight was spread out across his shoulders, “singlehandedly ruined my life. I know the secret of Fazbear’s animatronics because I worked for them back in ’87, I was the night guard I survived five days of fighting against those bastard machines.” He said throwing a dirty glance to the inoperative animatronics. He eyes then shifted to look at the functional animatronics before resting back on Joshua. “It wasn’t until that birthday party when it happened.”

“The bite of ’87.” Joshua realised as he stared at the man’s scar, “you’re the Jeremy Fitzgerald; the victim and Toy Foxy was the one who did it.” The other animatronics looked at the old man in shock.

“That’s right, don’t know what was going through the machines’ head, but I’d heard they animatronics had been acting up when around adults, well staff, … I was worried the robots may do something to the children, so I got myself close to them, a colleague of mine yelled out to me, I looked up … and then well …”

An eerie silence enveloped the room, old man Jeremy ran his hand along his scar.

“The old Toy Foxy clamped it teeth around your head and bit off your frontal lobe.” Wolfie finished, with an emotionless, controlled tone.

“I spent many weeks in hospital, but I recovered.” Jeremy continued, “I couldn’t make friends because of how it affected me, no one wanted to get close to me, and I could barely hold down a job, till I got this one.” He sighed, “Then I heard about that new treatment a few years’ back, regenerate organic matter with some synthetic chemical or whatever.”

“What?” Bonnie asked.

“Synthetic organic tissue; a liquid like matter used to create cloned flesh, originally to help burn victims, it’s been a thing for a few years now, but the techniques and technology are evolving quickly …” Joshua explained the animatronics giving him a weird look, “hey when you go to college and do advanced anything you hear about things.”

“Like remaking pieces of the brain.” Jeremy explained and gently tapped his scar, “the procedure is long, painful, sometimes my head goes numb, sometimes I get sick because I can feel it in my head.” He held his head for a moment, “I knew what had happened to me, but it wasn’t until the treatment began I realised how angry I was at what happened,” he looked past Joshua and Wolfie to look at The Mangle, “I knew where it was buried, I found it, and I ruined it like it ruined me, sure it was pointless but it made me feel better.” He paused and grit his teeth tightly together, shutting his eyes tightly as he felt his head begin to throb painfully. “I’m not going to say I’m sorry for what I did, because I’m not.”

“I don’t blame you.” Joshua replied sympathetically. “And neither would my dad.”

Jeremy nodded, “Schmidt, I remember your dad,” he chuckled dryly, “I was curious if you were related to that Schmidt.” He exhaled slowly, “your dad is a good man, and you ain’t half bad yourself,” he looked around at the animatronics, “at least Freddy’s finally figured out how to get the bugs out of their robots,” there was a brief pause, “I’ll get plier to cut the Mangle loose, then you all can get on home, and I can go to bed.”

With that old man Jeremy Fitzgerald tossed the straps to Bonnie and Freddy before going back into the house. Within the next few minutes, Jeremy had returned with plier to cut the animatronic free from its prison, the machines had been strapped together and hoisted into the delivery truck. Joshua and the others said their goodbyes to old man Fitzgerald who closed up his garage and home as they left.

Jeremy wouldn’t say it out loud, but having those metal monsters out of his property was a small comfort in the back of his mind, at last he could put his nightmares behind him and truly sleep in peace.
