Our "bright" future
Akuma finds himself stuck in the dark but he can't remember how or why he's there.
Ch.1 Welcome to the future.
A loud buzzing noise filled my ears. Eyes still closed I reached over to turn off the alarm. I jolted awake when my arm passed right through the spot it's always in and hit the metallic floor. Why was I on the floor? I looked around but didn't see anything, not even the glowing lights from my alarm clock. Was I kidnapped? If I was then who took me and where did they take me?
"Hello." I called out. The sound of my voice surprised me. It sounded like me just... Deeper.
I stand up off the cold metal floor and walk aimlessly for a few meters. That is until I tripped over something.
I moved over to figure out what it was I had tripped over. It felt... Furry, kinda like a dogs fur actually.
"no stop" a soft voice said in a whiny tone. It was a person. Were they wearing a fur coat or something?
I picked up his shoulders and shook him I even through in a "WAKE UP!" Just for good measure.
"Where-"
"Not important!" I interrupted him. "Um I mean I don't know, I just woke up."
"Why is it so dark? Is it night? Where are the stars then?" He really didn't need me, he was working this all out on his own. He was still going through some sort of process to figure out where we are?
"My names akuma, what's yours?" I asked as politely as possible.
"Yah yah that's good." He mumbled. He was lost in thought about where we are.
"Are you even listening?" I questioned him.
"Yah sure of course." He still wasn't listening so I dropped him. He hit the ground with a thud.
"What was that!" A new voice shouted. A girl this time.
"It's ok. I'm not here to hurt you." I wanted to sound more like a friend then an enemy.
"Okay then where is here?" The voice getting closer and closer.
"I don't know I'm sorry."
"No need to be so disappointed, we'll figure it out." She didn't make me feel better about the situation. I can't even remember how I got here, how could she be so calm.
"I'm not disappointed, I'm really afraid. I'm just living my life then I'm here. Everything else is just fuzzy." I tried thinking back but every time I tried my head started hurting.
"Your not the only one, I'm terrified of the dark." I just noticed how shaky her breaths sounded.
"At least we have each other's company."
"Yah but I would at least like some light." Her breathing became more even. This was good, it meant she's starting to feel more comfortable.
"Do you think we were kidnapped?" I questioned her.
"I hope not, that would be horrific. What will our captors do to us?" She started listing more and more things, speaking quicker and quicker.
"Hey no need for that, I won't let them hurt you. We will figure this out. I promise." I was speaking soft and lovingly so I wouldn't freak her out more.
Her breathing started to slow down.
"Okay but if we're stuck here together then we should get to know each other." I smiled but I don't think she saw.
"Okay" she took a few shaky breaths before continuing. "I already heard your name, akuma. Mines..." She trailed off
"Is something wrong?"
"I can't remember, I can't remember my name, or what happened to me. How I got here. What's going on?" She started screaming things like why! And, how!
"I don't know!" I screamed as loud as I could. "I don't know." She stopped, it went so quiet I felt as if I could hear her heart beating.
"I'm sorry if I yelled at you. I can get loud from time to time." I tried to say quietly.
"No it's my fault. I'm sorry I screamed like that. I'm just really scared." She was in front of me now.
"Are you going to be okay?" I asked.
"Yah." She sniffled. "I just don't want to be alone here." I reached out my arm and held onto her shoulder her hair was all over it but I didn't mind.
"I won't let go of you so you know that I'm still here."
"Thank you, but your hands feel really weird and I think you need to cut your nails. They're like claws and you kind have dog breath." She was definitely feeling better to be able to insult my hygiene.
"Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?" *tap tap* A deep voice called out from some sort of speaker. It sounded like a school p.a. System.
"Congratulations you four. You have been chosen." Four? I guess there was one more person.
"Each of you have a skill that little in the country, or even the world posses. This is why you haven't been killed off"
"Wait, killed off?" It was the guy who had been muttering to him self. I feel bad, I had totally forgotten him. "So then your from the government? Or a terrorist group?"
"Keep in mind that I am an automated system and cannot reply to your questions?" The speaker continued. "As I said, each of you wasn't killed off for a reason but I haven't decided if I'm going to tell you why yet."
"That's dumb." Another voice came from the speaker. A girl who's tone just screamed whatever. "Why aren't we telling them?"
"Yah! Why wouldn't you tell us?" The girl next to me yelled up at it.
"So you think I should tell them? The man asked
"Duh, but what is so important that you decided not to tell people?"
"I'm telling them there going through a series of tests to make sure they are prepared for what they may hear and what is going to happen to the world or in their case, has already happened." He paused and footsteps could be heard.
"Never mind I don't care anymore." The girl on the p.a. said.
"What you don't want to know what's going to happen? It's going to change the world forever." It was starting to sound like this man was talking to his daughter.
"Nah I'll pass." She said and walked out the door.
"Uh I'll never understand teenagers." He said before he started mumbling into the speaker. "Anyway. The world has been through a catastrophe. A fatal disease has spread through the world and anyone infected would die within 24 hours. It started in China and is working its way around the world. I'm hiding out in a bunker in the kanta forest, I won't be safe for long." He paused again to take a deep breath. It had to be hard to talk about how he's going to die.
"I have no hope." He said in a rigged tone. "But fortunately you do. You four are some of the few that have been chosen and put in testing labs across the world. Everyone chosen has dna close to an animal, ether because your family line hasn't evolved enough or you've evolved past everyone else. After doing tests on people who presented animal like qualities we took some dna samples and anyone who had a match was given a shot made from part animal blood and other things I'm not allowed to say that will increase this part of you. There is one problem though, It's not a 100% chance of success. Your body could have accepted the shot or you could have died from blood poisoning. After all we are putting an animals blood in your body. So without further ado"
A bright white light turned on and lit up the room.
"Welcome to the future."
