DC Profile: Velocity
#2 of Defense Council Profiles
Ben is a bit of a wildcard, but at least his heart is in the right place. He really should curb that arrogant streak before he gets another Defender hurt, though.

Name: Benjamin Fyfe
Alias: Velocity
Species: South Eastern Coyote
Age: 21
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Eyes: blue
Hair: brown
Fur/Skin: red/tan
Gender: male
Class: C
Known Abilities: Super Speed, very basic hand-to-hand combat skills, Minor Invulnerability or Kinetic Force Manipulation (See the Ability Details section below for clarification).
Known History: Benjamin Fyfe was born in East United City, formerly the township of Kennethborough. His youth was uneventful until age twelve when his very religious parents sent him away to the Sister Magdalene Catholic boarding school in upstate New York. Fyfe claims the reason he was sent away is because he was failing at public schooling and because "I was just a brat in general."
Fyfe did not take well to the discipline of boarding school and says that he often snuck out of the dormitory to the nearby small town of Benson, New York where he read the latest magazine articles about Mighty Steel and other Defenders. It was this constant shirking of schoolwork that lead to his expulsion from Sister Magdalene after only two years, and his reluctant return home.
Fyfe was brutally disciplined by both of his parents, and often had bruises to show for it. On days when his father decided to drink, the abuse only worsened. Fyfe endured this treatment for four years until age eighteen when he convinced his parents to let him attend United University. Fyfe discovered his abilities while training for the track and field team, and his sudden prowess led his coaches to believe that he was using steroids. He was kicked from the team, but instead of his spirits being crushed by the events of his youth, they only seemed to strengthen his resolve. At age nineteen, Fyfe had doubled his top speed through practice, and he released his first video recorded stunt, which was to match the speed of a car traveling at twenty-nine miles per hour (one mile per hour faster than the fastest recorded olympic sprinter) for two straight minutes.
The video quickly went viral on the internet and caught the attention of the Defense Council, but there were many debates on the veracity of the footage. People on the internet and at Defense Council HQ at the time theorized camera trickery and post-production editing.
As before, negative comments about him did not deter Fyfe, and he became more determined than ever to prove that he really did possess an innate talent for speed. It was at this time, when Fyfe reached age twenty, that he began operating as the vigilante known as Velocity. In his first year fighting crime, he managed to stop twenty separate criminals, however he was not singled out as a possible Defender until he managed to intercept and subdue a violent criminal who was in the process of fleeing from Class B Defender Deluge.
To date, Fyfe is the youngest individual to ever be granted Defender status.
Ability Details: Benjamin Fyfe has the ability to run and sprint faster than any known individual in the world. His current top speed is 4,000 feet per second (or 2,727 miles per hour). This means that he can easily outrun high-caliber rifle rounds. His mobility is unaffected by his speed, which makes him quite formidable in spite of his abilities' lack of variety.
His fighting style is based on using his momentum to put opponents off balance and then overwhelming them with blows faster than they can react. He lacks any kind of super strength, however, while he is moving, he seems to be immune to the G-forces and air resistance caused by such speed.
Lastly, Fyfe appears to be able to affect bullets and other projectiles in motion as long as he is also in motion. While he cannot actually stop a bullet, he can alter the trajectory of one while it is in flight; effectively deflecting it from its initial target. High speed cameras revealed that Fyfe does not physically interact with projectiles at all while in motion and he merely moves near a projectile to make it veer off course. Analysis staff posits that he may possess a protective aura of some kind while in motion or he may have innate control over kinetic forces. If the latter is the case, he may grow to be one of the most powerful Defenders ever recruited. It should be noted, however, that this ability appears to be involuntary with Fyfe's current training.
Analysis staff would like to note that Benjamin Fyfe is perhaps the most arrogant individual they have ever tested. He greatly enjoys showing off and that aspect of his personality could very likely cause issues in the field. At this time, it is recommended that he not be allowed to participate in high risk Defense Actions until he has been trained more adequately.
For the above reasons and because of his lack of field experience, the analysis staff recommends that Benjamin Fyfe, AKA "Velocity", be monitored closely and registered as a Class C Defender.
