Behind the Alley
Rex was born into a big family, where he had two older brothers and a little sister. His father was a hard worker at the nearby machine factory, his mother was an accountant at a local business in downtown's business district. As a kid Rex adored firefighters, who saved people and rode big red fire trucks. He knew that he will become one when he grows up. He was particularly close to his little sister as her guardian angel. The four cubs played games in the garden endlessly day after day, they had a really carefree life, but good things don't last forever.
Rex was 10 years old when one day his mother just stood up and left with her little sister. He never understood why. His dad said something about another male, but Rex didn't understand what he meant. He only knew that his father became someone else in the following weeks and months. He started to drink a lot from those brown bottles and he acted all day like he was sick. He never forgot the first day he was beaten by his own father. His older brothers were stronger and faster, so when his father couldn't find anyone else around, his smallest son became the reason for everything wrong in his life. After showing up in school a couple of times with his bruises one day the cops came and took his father away. He and his brothers were separated and they've ended up in different foster homes.
In the next years he asked himself every day what did he do wrong? What did he do so wrong that he lost his mom, his dad, his brothers and his beloved little sister...? As the years passed the only thought that remained in his mind was that everything was his fault. Why else would his father beat him? Everything went wrong because of him. Rex became silent and introvert. He talked to no one and he usually just sat someplace quiet while his mind got consumed by dark thoughts.
Alice was born into a nice, loving family. She was an only child, who always looked out for new friends. She was very lucky, because her open and friendly attitude won everybody very quick. She was a prodigy in school, she loved biology and chemistry. She wanted to be a big scientist one day, who will invent something great. Her parents were very proud of her and one day they said that soon she will have a little brother. A few days later everything changed.
Alice was 8 when her life suddenly ended and a new one started. She participated in a school performance to celebrate parent's day. Throughout the show she did her best performance for her beloved parents, but she learned only after the show ended that her parents were nowhere to be found. Her teacher stayed with her, even after everyone else left. She didn't understand what happened when a police cruiser pulled up and a sad mare officer talked to her teacher. She didn't understand why her teacher started to cry. She didn't understand why she was taken home by the police officers. She didn't understand why she had to pack her most beloved things in her small backpack. She didn't understand why she had to stay at a strange place full with unknown kids for the night. She cried all night, because she didn't understand why her parents never came for her. Her parents. Mom. Dad. They never came for her. Why? Why did they leave her alone?
When she was finally told in the next morning, that her parents died in a car accident she cried for hours. She was left alone, with no one to help her or to ease her pain.
When Alice arrived to the foster home she was scared. She had no idea what to do. The first night she cried, so next day her new foster siblings decided to teach her a lesson and they started to beat her in the garden when her foster parents were not around. Alice started to cry and scream for her dead parents, who never came to help. Only Rex heard her cries for help. The voice that was so familiar, like his lost little sister's. He ended the fight by scaring away the bullies with those devilish feral growls of his. When Alice looked up she saw a big black wolf looking down on her with concern in his eyes. He helped her up and from that day onward he made sure that her new sister is safe. He won't let anyone hurt her ever.
As the years passed they endured things children never ever should. No birthdays, no presents, no real happiness and none of the most important thing of a child's life, parents. Parents, who protect, nurture and love. Who tuck you in at night, who scare away the monsters, who are always there to help. As soon as they became adults they were thrown out of their foster home and for years after that day they roamed the streets and lived of what they could find and later steal. It was a very hard and sometimes hopeless life, but for them the only important thing was that they were together. They knew that they can depend on each other and that they will never be alone. In the meantime their relationship evolved and it became something much more.
Now, as they walked down on that dark alley, they laughed and enjoyed their lives not just as adopted siblings, but as lovers and mates. They've approached a spot were the lights were not as bright as elsewhere. It was ideal for setting up a trap. The wolf looked around and made sure that there are no cameras in the area.
- This looks like a nice place. Shall we?
- You don't have to ask twice partner.
With that the cheetah kissed the wolf and they embraced for a long minute. Then the cheetah lay on the ground and she started to scream. It didn't take long until they heard the sound of hooves running down the alley.
