Potion Cat: A Poison Kiss
#4 of Potion Cat(Reboot)
Synopsis: Frustrated, impatient and rather annoyed with a lack of steady customer flow, the potion cat finds herself brooding in the store when what seems like a thief enters her store. After nearly turning the poor fool into slag, Layne finds that the strange hooded figure is actually a customer who is willing to pay top coin for a poisonous herb. She's more than willing to take his coin and treasure for the expedition, but can the kobold be trusted to help her if things go awry?
Broken clouds of white spread across the sky with the sun slipping between the cracks. The grass was damp with morning dew and droplets of water from the rain that was just now coming to a halt. Sunshine beat down on the ground and reflected off of the many drops of water dotting the grass on the hill and ground. At the top of the hill, the potion maker stood in a long sleeved dress of black with a steeple hat planted atop of her head with a curled point. Her blue eyes were focused on the sky and a small smile touched her lips. The scent of freshly fallen rain against greenery could still be caught in the air, and the potion make took a deep breath of the morning breeze carrying that smell. She had stepped outside to open her store to the public, but she had allowed herself a chance to take in the sights and enjoy the morning. The Autumn chill made for a strange combination with the damp mist hovering above the ground from the showers that had been a constant this season. Everything seemed to be going well, but Layne felt something stirring within her; a certain discontent with how things were.
Layne looked at the path leading to the village down the hill and wondered if she would be seeing any customers today. She only ever seemed to get maybe one customer a day. Patience was a virtue, but it wasn't her most practiced skill. Layne wanted to see her store thriving right now and part of her thought that she would do anything to see that happen. At the same time, what was she going to do about it? She had already planted the seeds of interest down at the village and had even made a few friends. She could continue going on the way she was going and perhaps that was the only choice she had. Maybe visiting the store where she bought some of her herbs and advertising there would pay off, but doing that could wait. With a sigh, she turned with an irritated flick of her tail to leave behind the ruined morning and try to begin her day with less of a sour disposition. She still had a store to run after all.
The potion maker padded into her store with soft steps sounding off against the wooden floors. Her eyes were scanning over her empty shop wryly as she wondered whether or not she would see a customer today. In the mornings she would always prepare new potions for the day, but at the moment she just felt like slumping over the counter and vegetating. When she stepped around the front, she sat her elbow on the top and planted her chin in paw, her tail flicking from side to side as she thought of some way to get out of this nasty rut. It was true that she wasn't very patient and perhaps she was a little overly ambitious, but she was never one for deep seated negativity. Feeling like this was more of a bother than anything else. She had to remember that she had come far, far from where she had been before the renovations and even further in so short a time since those very renovations. The cottage had once been a little shack on the hill. Her equipment had all been given to her out of pity for free and she had paid that debt. Layne had even made friends down at the village where once she had known not even the name of the kind old man who had given her a head start on alchemy, but it wasn't enough was it? She wanted to see her store filled with people enjoying her stock or at the very least more than just a single customer a day. What was her end goal after that, though? To live comfortably nestled up on the hill and away from her family. That was a sour reminder. Her family was the last thing she ever wanted to think about.
Layne had run away from responsibility and family scrutiny alike. She had been young when her cousin had taken her away, but she had been old enough to know that she did not want to stay there. She hated thinking about her father's eyes looking down at her with such contempt for the failure that he perceived her to be. Bah, negativity always seemed to bring her sour thoughts of days long past. At the very least her cousin was a welcome thought, though, she was liable to sock her cousin on the chin if he ever came around asking her to visit the clan estate ever again. With a sigh, she pushed off of the counter and took a deep breath. Those thoughts were for another day.
Even with the door closed, there was an odd chill that seemed to run up her tail that she chalked up to the Autumn chill finding a draft to enter her store. When she opened her sapphire eyes, she saw that the door to her store had just closed, but the bell atop did not jingle. She raised a brow at that and her tail curled in curiosity as she reached beneath the front counter, "Hello?"
When no answer came she turned around to see that there was nothing there. When she returned her gaze to the front, she saw a figure dressed robes made of the abyss with the hood drawn up to obscure the face except for two glowing green eyes. The figure stepped to Layne and raised both sleeved arms up to speak, "Hello potion maker. I have an offer I do not think you can ref--"
A bolt of lightning struck the door behind the hooded figure and those glowing green eyes blinked in and out of existence as they stared at the scorch mark sizzling against the wood of the door before they looked back to the potion maker. Layne was holding a wand up with a scowl on her features. She wasn't in a good mood and mysterious figures sneaking into her store certainly weren't welcome and she so rarely got to flex her magic like this. With the tip of the wand crackling with blue power, Layne addressed her intruder with a flat tone, "I can refuse anything you say and I can refuse your life. If you're here for peaceful reasons or here to shop then maybe I can forgive you and listen, but I'm less inclined to do so when someone sneaks into my shop like some sort of childish mischief-maker."
The intruder put their arms up and spoke, their voice taking more of a trembling tone compared to that of their opening command, "W-whoa now. I just have a business offer for you."
Layne snorted and flicked her wand, "Then why the getup and setup? You could have walked into my store like a normal person and asked for a polite conversation."
"B-but what I request isn't exactly legal. I figured I would be sneaky and no one would notice me like this."
Layne tilted her head, "What? Are you dumb?"
"Excuse me?"
The potion making feline scoffed, "You go around dressing like you're part of some weird cult and you're skulking about? No doubt you're just begging for attention. If you want to do something illegal then do it in plain sight where no one suspects you to do it, well, unless you plan on murdering someone."
"What!? Oh, no no, I don't plan on murdering anyone. I just w-wanted an ingredient."
Layne made little circles in the air with the wand while she considered that, "Huh? All right, well, take off the hood. You're creeping me out with the green balls of light in the abyss look."
The figure's eyes blinked before they pulled back their hood to reveal a reptilian face with soft orange scales, their eyes still the same shade of glowing green. They were a kobold of all things, "All right, now that you can see me and you know I mean no harm, you're going to lower the wand and hear me out right?"
Layne thought of that for a moment and flicked the wand with a huff, "Make your offer and hurry up about it. You caught me in a bad mood, but business propositions interest me."
"Well, I...I can pay you greatly for a specific herb that only grows inside caverns near the mountains just out by the woods behind this hill. I-I even have a diagram of it should you need."
Layne watched with wary eyes as he pulled a rolled up piece of parchment from his sleeves. He opened it and stepped carefully to the counter to set it down before backing away to let Layne look it over. The diagram detailed a rare herb located in this region only that grew in caverns as he had said, and just as he said the herb was listed as something that shouldn't be used in any potions or mixtures except by certain practitioners for experimental reasons, but what he hadn't mentioned was why. The herb itself was poisonous for consumption and any attempt to distill it or use it for positive gain had been met with death. There was another reason why the herb was something that should be left alone. It grew in clusters surrounding a living plant just as dangerous as the poison and certainly much more aggressive.
With raised brow, she planted the tip of her wand on the page and looked to the kobold, "So you do want to kill someone?"
The kobold blurted, "No! I just want to study the thing. I haven't had the opportunity to look it over because I'm not mandated with the court magi so I don't have permission, but I'd love to see if I could make something that doesn't harm someone out of it."
Layne rubbed her chin with one paw. It would make sense as to why he seemed so awkward in his moment to moment shady dealings, but that was still a lot of trouble to go through for just a simple business deal and so she got down to the important details, "How much are you paying me for the retrieval of this thing? You must know I don't carry any with me...So, give me a reason to do this."
The kobold produced another thing from his sleeve and this time Layne had to wonder if his robes were enchanted. Before her, he produced a small chest that he laid daintily on her front counter. When he opened it, her eyes grew wide and reflected the glimmering within. Coins, coins, and jewels of varying sizes and metals all there in piles waiting for her. From a glance, just the coins were enough to buy out half of the stock that she had on her shelves. She was already sold on the coin, and if he was good for his word then perhaps she would have some more business as well.
With a smile that showed her pearly fangs, she gave the top of the chest a soft tap with her wand and chuckled, "I think we can do business."
The kobold nodded happily and clapped his hands together, "Good good, you can keep this now as a down payment should you desire. When do you think you can have it retrieved by."
Layne began running numbers in her head with her tongue pressed against the inside of her cheek as she wondered aloud, "Well, I don't think it'll take too long since the map in this diagram shows that it is just a short hike through the woods and in the caves near the mountains. Isn't too far away, so I'd say maybe two days or so. I should be able to handle any living plant without a problem, just in case I'll bring some antidotes and luckily your payment will be enough to handle any costs of this little trip."
The kobold smiled, "Good! When will be leaving then?"
Layne narrowed her gaze and pointed the wand at the kobold again, "And who said we were working together? Aren't you just interested in the study of herbs?"
"Y-yes! But I could help! I have magic, I've worked in the field before...I just don't think I could handle it on my own. P-please, take me with you. I promise I'll be helpful."
Layne gave him a look with one squinted eye before she stepped back and shrugged, "Hm, while I don't make it a habit of endangering customers, I can see how having a bit of help on this might be good. What's your name stranger?"
"Fal."
Layne extended a paw and when he grabbed on she shook his claw and smiled happily, "Layne Luness. Betray me and I'll be sure to haunt you if I don't make it back and if I do make it back I'll descale you."
Fal coughed as he shook her paw, "I-I'll be certain to keep that in mind miss Luness, but worry not, I have a vested interest in this success!"
An uneasy alliance was struck between the potion maker and her intruder gone customer. Layne set about preparing for their trip to the caverns with tools to keep herself and her client protected. She donned a belt around her waist that held several flasks and her wand. While she didn't need the wand to cast magic, it would help her throw out some instant and dirty magic that would keep them insured against anything that would want to harm them, and the plant they would need to be contesting with for the herbs that it protected.
When she was almost finished and back at the front of her store, she tossed a leather bag at her customer and he caught it with a little hop, "Carry this. It has a map in it and a couple of extra potions that might come in handy. Mostly antidotes to make sure if we're poisoned by anything we don't die. Now, can you defend yourself?"
Fal straightened up with the bag in his arms, "Yes! I'm pretty handy when it comes to earth magics."
"Good! That means I won't have to look out for your safety."
The kobold looked to the potion maker with a blank stare, double taking as she walked past him towards the door, "W-wait! You're joking about that right miss?"
Layne opened the door, promptly ignoring the kobold, and stepped outside to begin their trek. Of course, she didn't mean her little tease. She fully intended for this expedition to go off without a single hitch. If he was truly not going to betray her then she would have a new customer to spread the good word of her work ethic and she would also have plenty of coin to spend on herself and her store. Now, she just had to hope her kobold client wouldn't get harmed in the process of their adventure.
Through the woods, they walked and not a single thing disturbed them. Fairies wandered about the area, but Layne knew her way around the woods and knew how to avoid a run in with the tricky orbs. The verdant canopy above them created a pattern that allowed the sunlight to filter through as if the trees did not want their delicate branches touching one another. The woods behind her home were a magic place and she could feel the trees and the earth teeming with it. Most did not wander into these woods for that very reason. Places of magic were often dangerous for people who did not know how to navigate them, and these woods were no different.
Soon, the pair were standing before the mouth of a cave etched into a mountain that towered above the great trees. Moss hung from the entrance and Layne squinted her eyes to see nothing but darkness ahead. With a flick of her paw, the blue bands of fur around her wrists began to glow with little runes as a ball of fire light was called just above the pair. When that was done, Layne took the first steps into the cave without fear, the kobold soon following behind her.
Rock walls and floors lined the caves with not much else but that for a long time. The light illuminated their way and as they made their way further into the cave, Layne saw little bits of moss lining the walls where plant life had somehow grown despite the lack of sunlight. The feline followed the lines of moss on the wall with her paw trailing against them, her eyes squinting in the dim lighting as she looked over the plant life. The path down the cave was fairly linear with no extra tunnels or openings to go down, so their way was clear.
Layne's ears flicked with every little noise, from their own steps to the sound of water drops echoing against the cave floors. Their path began to open just as the feline's ears picked up the sound of rushing water. With narrowed eyes, the light moved ahead to reveal a small rupture in the stone of the wall where water trickled out into a creek that ran down the side of the path that they were walking. Layne had been curious about the small body of water, but her main interest turned to vines creeping out of the crack and running along the wall towards the dark ceiling of the cave. The potion maker brought her paw up to lead the orb of light up and up until she could see what was connected to the vines. Her eyes grew wide a bulbous flower was illuminated with bright purple petals. She dared not move now from where she stood and she whispered to her companion, "Is this the living plant that usually lives next to the herb you want?"
The kobold gulped and nodded, answering quietly as he did so, "Yes...But, I didn't think it would be on the ceiling of all places. If you can see, the leaves of the plant are what we need."
Layne hissed quietly, "I thought it grew next to the plant, not on it."
"Well, it can be both, they're a bit symbiotic. Don't worry, though, the big one isn't poisonous, although it does have a few strange toxins that aren't fatal."
Layne considered this with a flick of her tail, "Hm, guess we'll need to carve off a couple of leaves from here huh?"
"What? Oh, that might be a bit dangerous."
She looked to him dryly, "Of course it is, but what else do you expect me to do? It isn't as if I can just ask the thing to let me pluck off some of what we need with a pretty please."
Layne pulled the wand from her belt and pointed it at the strange flower on the ceiling. She started to call power into it when the kobold broke out into a nervous titter, "I really wouldn't do that!"
The black furred feline scowled. Her concentration had been broken and she looked at the kobold with narrowed eyes, "And why not?"
As soon as her question left her lips, something smooth coiled around her ankles and she was hefted off of her feet and brought into the air. She yelped and began to squirm and struggled as she looked up to see that her ankle had been caught by coiling vines. With a hiss, she brought her wand up only for a mess of vines to interrupt her casting by wrapping around her wrist and yanking her about. She cursed and struggled in the hold of the plant creature and called out to the darkness, "A little help would be nice!"
Fal responded, "Well, I tried to tell you that the plant can sense magic and is attracted to it! Now, if you stay right there I'm sure I can think of something to help you. Just, distract it."
Layne lashed out, "I'll distract you with a foot to the tail if I get out of this alive you idiot! That diagram mentioned nothing about this and neither did you!"
"Sorry!"
Layne huffed, "Don't apologize! Just do something!"
"Like I said! Just distract the thing. Just staying in its hold should be enough. It isn't a flesh eating plant luckily, but it does lay eggs!"
The feline hung from the vines wrapping around her limbs and groaned as her hat fell down to the cave floor below. Her wand was lost to the grip of the plant's tendrils and all of her limbs were being restrained one by one. She wondered what sort of distraction that idiot was waiting for? It wasn't as if she could move in this type of situation and calling more magic was likely just to agitate it more. Fal had said it laid eggs, but for what purpose would he tell her that? He also had said that staying still should be enough to distract the plant, whatever that meant.
Layne shuddered as she felt the vines start to writhe and twist up her legs and under her dress. She gasped as she felt it feeling over her sensitive parts and she started to struggle again. The feline had never known a plant without a face to be so touchy. Those smooth vines moved through her underwear and twisted about her balls and cock, squeezing while another moved to her rear and prodded against her puckered hole through her underwear. She squeaked and squirmed further as she began to understand how she would be distracting the creature, however, she would rather not bear the eggs of some strange poisonous plant.
"Don't struggle!" Called out the kobold.
Layne hissed, her temper flaring as she started to tug at her limbs violently, "And why shouldn't I?!"
The feline gasped as she was brought closer to the plant so she was facing the flowering bulb. She twisted in the creature's hold and the flower closed slowly just before her eyes. She continued her struggling, even as she was brought closer and closer to the flower bud. Her lips were forced to kiss the petals of the flower ever so gently and her eyes grew wide as a mist of pink puffed out into her face. Layne felt panic rushing through her body, but only for a second. A sudden calm washed through her body and her ears fell back just as a vine coiled around her chin gingerly. The vine's touch brought a warm shiver to her body that caused her to purr and let out a pathetic moan. Part of her still realized that she was in the clutches of some strange creature about to use her as a hatchery, but the vast portion of her mind and body was focused on the sudden pleasure drumming up and down her back. Again the vines moved to lift her dress and Layne couldn't find it in herself to struggle, even as they tore her underwear and tossed the tatters on the ground. The feline's cock was twitching and firm and she gladly allowed the creature to pull her back to spread her legs slowly. Her toes curled as she felt her mind grow hazy, her body grow sluggish, and her entire being grow hotter by the second. Whatever that plant had done to her felt far too good. There was a strange phantom call that begged her to remain still and enjoy what was happening, it was a call that urged her to purr like a meek kitten and her eyes began to glow with the slightest hues of pink that reflected the petals of the flower. Somewhere in the back of her mind where she was still herself, she wondered if that idiot customer of hers was planning on actually helping her.
Her mind was a swirl of color and sensation as the creature's tendrils inched ever closer to her rear. Purple and pink lights danced in her vision and her own body grew feverishly hot as she felt a tendril poke and prod at her puckered hole. A vine moved to press inside of her and even in her poison addled state she expected to feel some sort of pain, but instead, she only let out a moan as her rear easily allowed that thing to slide inside of her. The vines grasp seemed to tighten around her limbs as it pushed inside of her. A puff of air escaped her lips as she felt her insides being stretched wide, but her mind only sunk deeper to the pleasures of her body and ignored the call from the smallest portion of her senses asking her to realize what was happening. Thrust per thrust she moaned aloud as the plant pressed that thick vine deeper inside of her.
The feline's own body danced with pleasure and her cock twitched just the same. Her back arched and her eyes shut tight as she felt pressure building in her balls and she couldn't help it. Layne mewled as her first orgasm hit her hard. Hot seed sprayed against the petals of the flower in front of her. Even as she came she was given no respite as the flower's vine continued to press and twist inside of her rear. Her cock wouldn't go down after that orgasm either, it kept twitching and the pressure continued to build anew. It was almost too much to handle.
Layne's toes curled in and her mouth was opening and closing rapidly as she panted. The poison that had clouded her mind made it feel as if she had been stuck there for hours on end being ravaged by this creature's probing tendril. Her thoughts were focused on how she could better please the plant to enhance her own pleasure. That writhing thing inside of her drove her made and she needed more of it inside of her. The plant's rhythm grew violent as it gave her exactly what she desired. Layne squealed and mewled pathetically as that overly thick vine twisted against her inner walls. She could feel the tip of the tendril parting inside of her to stretch her further which only served to make her moan aloud and gasp. As the vine parted, it stopped thrusting inside of her, leaving her with some room to breathe but still so full.
It wasn't long before the vine began to undulate and pulse. The throbbing vine secreted some sort of slick liquid that felt cool on her insides and soothed what soreness she felt. It was with that soothing sensation that she felt something thick begin to travel the length of the innards of the vine and in her rear. A huge ovular bulge pressed against her puckered hole and slowly pushed inside with a wet pop. Layne gasped and trembled as she felt it travel up her rear where the vine deposited the egg inside of her. The feline mewled aloud as she felt her stomach practically bulging from the act. She felt as if she were so full she would burst if she moved. The pain, the pleasure, it all mixed with that poisonous cloud, but the pink and purple lights were fading and the color that had tinted her blue eyes was disappearing. Layne could feel her fury growing again, tempered only by the pleasure still writhing through her form. She knew not to struggle now or else she would be sprayed again, and this time she grit her fangs as she felt the creature slowly pull out of her rear. There were still some effects of the poison plaguing her body and she could feel her cock twitching violently, another orgasm rocking her form and painting the flower with more of her seed. If the pink flower minded the cum, it didn't show it as it worked mindlessly to pull that tendril out carefully after making sure the egg was secure inside of the potion maker.
Layne panted weakly as she tested her digits. She was still trapped in the hold of the creature, and suddenly before her eyes, the flower opened wide. Her eyes grew as she saw the flower open, gasped as the vines began to pull her towards the open maw of the flower. There were no teeth, but surely it was planning to trap her there until the egg hatched. She resisted the urge to squirm and yell, and just as the flower began to close on her a spire of earth shot through the creature's open flower. Layne blinked and the vines squirmed and withdrew from her. She fell with a cry and was caught by the kobold who she had thought had left her there to die.
"See! I told you everything would be fine."
She clasped the kobold by the collar and jabbed her wand against his throat, "Get what you need and let's get out of here."
Carefully, he set Layne on her feet while gulping, eyes minding the wand as he trotted around to the felled plant to get what he needed. Layne herself could stand, but winced as she felt the bulbous thing inside of her. There was no way she was going to be the mother of a flower, no matter how pretty that flower was. When the kobold returned with the herb in the bag, Layne found it difficult to move so she allowed him to carry her. They retrieved her hat from the floor, but despite that, she still gave the kobold a cross look. Now that she was thinking straight, she'd have to question the little-scaled lizard, or at the very least get some extra pay out of him for damages.
When they were out of the cave and back in the woods. He set Layne on the floor gingerly and sighed, "We can rest here for a bit right? Besides, we need to get that egg out of you."
Layne snorted and leaned back against the tree he had set her by, "Damn right we do...I can't believe you neglected to tell me literally everything about that monster, and that stupid diagram of yours failed to mention the extra parts that I should have known."
Fal apologized and apologized some more as he extracted the egg from Layne's rear. When the egg was out of her, Layne breathed out and slumped against the tree. She looked up to see the kobold placing the egg ever so gingerly inside of the pack and to that she tilted her head and asked, "Just what do you think you're doing? I certainly don't want to see that thing ever again."
The kobold blinked and looked to her with a smile, "Why, this was part of what I desired! You see, I can cultivate my own herbs from this and study the plants closely in my own nursery. You did absolutely splendidly!"
Layne narrowed her eyes, but rather than lash out she mumbled, "You could have told me you wanted an egg from that thing."
Fal chuckled, "Yes, but would you have been willing to be a distraction in such a manner?"
"I would have, for an extra fee."
Fal shrugged, "Oh well, I suppose we can arrange things a bit more truthfully next time, as for an extra fee, I'm sure I can come up with something."
Layne grimaced as she forced herself up from the tree. She winced as she felt her lower back whimper in pain and her tail curled in response to the soreness. The feline thought of clocking her precious customer in the snout right now, but she had other plans, "I could use a cup of tea...I'm guessing you'd be alright with a cup as well?"
The kobold beamed, "Why, I would be happy to have a cup! I'm glad there are no hard feelings between us. I do intend to give you an extra bit of payment for my lack of trust! And I'll be sure to spread the good word of your work."
Layne smiled wryly and began to walk, "Perfect. We can talk it over while we drink."
Back at her cottage, she served tea as promised and the kobold drank happily while chatting about how he would compensate her for his trickery, but darkness soon took the kobold's vision, and the potion maker was left sitting there at the table with a big smile while sipping her tea. The kobold woke much, much later bound to the potion maker's front counter with his tail tied to his wrists to keep it high in the air. Layne herself was holding a magic construct, a paddle made of blue energy. She ran a digit along the flat side before she spoke, "Good morning friend. Are you ready to compensate me?"
The kobold was still groggy from being put to sleep and he spoke in a nervous titter, "W-why? What compensation might that be?"
Rather than answer, Layne struck the kobold's rear with all her might. He yelped and squirmed as the potion maker began her assault on his rump. Smack after smack echoed off the walls of her store as she continued to gain her compensation from the kobold's suffering. When she could see the tinted color his scaled rump practically glowing, she produced a potion from the counter and popped the cork off to pour the contents on his rear. She giggled madly as she revealed the egg that had been forced into her rear at one point. The kobold turned his head with wide eyes and began to struggle before he suddenly squealed as Layne pressed the egg into his rear bit by bit until it stretched him wide and pressed inside. When she was done, she gave his rear a soft pat and chuckle as he groaned out and slumped against the front counter. Now that she had her compensation, she felt much better.
Layne bid farewell to her darling customer at the front door. The kobold grumbled and rubbed his lower back through the robes as he began to walk away with a limp. Layne turned back to her store with a happy smile and moved back inside. Today had been a mixed bag, but at least she managed to entertain herself, plus that plant that had violated her had given her something to think about. Aromatherapy could be something else she could sell. Incense and scents that titillate the mind and body. With new inspiration and a bounce in her step, she moved to the back of her store to begin plans.
