Growvember Day 3
#3 of Growvember Series
Trouble seems to be brewing at the encampment, some giants are getting a bit restless, but at least Bryant makes a new friend
Growvember
November 3rd
I awoke with an oof as someone jammed their foot into my stomach. Last I was sent to an encampment set up my the government for those of us too big to fit into our homes, or danger of outgrowing them. There wasn't really cover for us to sleep under, due to our size, which made the early spring weather a bit chilly. Nonetheless, it was better than have rubble falling on top of us.
Anyway, I felt the kick again and groaned, trying to scoot back but bumping into someone else.
"Hey! Watch it!"
"Sorry." I grunted, sighing and just sitting straight up.
My jaw nearly hit the ground as I looked over the field. No wonder we were fighting for space, we were nearly all crammed together now, apparently having grown once more over night. Some of the other furs just waking up noticed this too, most looking a bit concerned, but one or too I could see in their eyes a gleam of excitement. I was going to keep an eye on them.
I tried to find a trailers where the scientists and guards were staying, carefully stepping over other furs still sleeping. Even then, it was real weird that I could hear my own footsteps thooming onto the grass, imprints left in the ground as I looked back. I will admit, just seeing that sight sent a thrill down my spine.
I had a lot of power at this size, and unless the army was being called in, now one could really stop me, could they? I mean, I wasn't sure of my size, but I had at least doubled and then some by the looks of things. When I finally came to the trailers, I noticed I could easily pick one up in my hand if I wanted to, with minimal effort. I actually really wanted to do it just to try, but no, these people were trying to help us.
I wasn't the only one wanting to know what was going on. At least two other giants were there talking to someone at their feet, a fox and a puma.
"What do you mean you still have no leads? Its been three days! You have to have something by now!" The fox glared angrily down at the normal folk, who barely came up to our ankles at this point.
"Please sir! We are doing the best we can at the moment! As you said, its only three days! We need more time!" The small in a lab coat yelled up.
"More time? Look at me! I could Stomp you flat if I wanted to!"
"Whoa now Kevin, stop. They're trying to help!" The puma put his arm over the fox's chest, holding him back.
"Come on Chris! They could be the ones behind this! Some kind of government experiment that's gone out of control!"
The puma growled and pushed him back.
"Stop trying to spread that rumor damnit! Its not cool! You'll spread a panic!" He growled, baring his fangs.
"You want to start something?" Kevin growled back, balling his hands into fists. I quickly moved forward, getting in between the two.
"Guys! Calm down! You could hurt someone! Just take a deep breath and relax. This'll get figured out." I looked at both with my hands outstretched, actually noticing I was larger than the two by a few feet at least. The fox glared at both of us before turning briskly and stomping off.
"Hey, thanks man." Chris slumped his shoulders. "I've been friends with the guy since childhood, but ever since we started growing, he seemed to get a bit more unhinged."
"Its fine. I'm Bryant by the way. Nice to meet you." I smiled, extending my hand.
"Chris, but you probably already knew that." He smiled back, shaking my hand. I turned my attention back to the tiger scientist, who seemed to be trying to recompose himself after that incident.
"Has there been any progress yet at least?" I asked, squatting down before the tiger so he didn't have to yell so much.
"At the moment, no. As I was telling them, we're still in the early stages, but are working 24 hours a day to find out what's causing this. All we know so far is You seem to lack the need of food and well...going to the bathroom to put it bluntly. It makes no sense scientifically and its baffling us. It's like your whole biology is being rewritten." The tiger explained, cleaning his glasses.
"That is true, after the first day. I didn't need to eat or go. Did you?" Chris asked me.
"No, same thing. I ate the first day, but thinking back, I don't even think I was hungry at the time. It was out of habit now that I think about it." I answered back.
"Yeah...actually I think the same for me." Chris put a hand on his chin and nodded, thinking back to it.
"Anyway, I'll let you get to work sir. Also, if my girlfriend, Samantha Herrington, shows up, can you notify me at all?" I started to stand back up.
"I'll see what I can do. But for now, please try to find a spot to sit at. We'll be coming around asking for volunteers for some tests." The tiger nodded, heading back to the trailers.
Chris and I both headed off, mostly chatting about ourselves and stuff we use to do. Just to try and pass the time. There really wasn't much you could do at this size except sit.
As he said, some scientists were coming around, asking for blood samples from anyone willing. Chris and I both did, and the one scientist looked at my name on the chart.
"Bryant Loyft?"I was to pass a message to you that your girlfriend was here. It looks like she may have been waiting for half an hour though, sorry to tell you so late but..."
"No, its fine, just which way do I go?" I asked, perking up.
"That way, we set up a visiting section for now to meet with anyone you may know. Just please watch your step."
I nodded and stood, making sure to keep an eye on the ground as I walked over, seeing a large platform and other giants sitting, talking to normal folk. I could barely make her out right away, but Samantha was jumping up and down, trying to get my attention. What was even more surprising was she had brought someone else with her, my boss.
I say down slowly, as to not cause too much of a quake, hunching over a bit.
"Heya hon and hi Mr. Baskowits." I smiled a bit coyly. "Told you I wasn't lying."
Mr. Baskowits didn't respond, his mouth still agape at my current size, seeming to try and process it.
"So, you all grew again?" Samantha asked a bit coldly, looking me up and down.
"Are you okay Sam?" I asked, perking a brow.
"Yeah! Sorry, was just a little annoyed at Mr. Grouch here bugging me asking where you were. So I brought him along." She huffed, blowing a bit of hair from her eyes. Mr. Baskowits seemed to finally snap out of his stupor at the insult.
"Listen here girly, How was I suppose to know he wasn't lying to get out of work?" He gruffed, crossing his arms.
"So, any breakthroughs here that hasn't made it to the news yet? Like what's causing it?" Sam asked, leaning forward a bit.
"Nothing yet. They just took some blood samples from us to test. But so far, the only thing we have in common is no longer needing to eat or expose waste." I tried to put it in a better term. Sam giggled.
"Well, that's a relief." She joked, causing both me and my boss to roll our eyes.
We talked a bit more about current events going on, mostly about the appearance of growing giants. And that's when she got a bit fearful.
"Some people are calling for the government to arm cities better with tanks, just in case one of you go rogue and go on a rampage." She almost said in a hush tone. I immediately thought back to Kevin and how angry he was. That could actually happen.
"Look, everyone is cooperating with the scientists to fix this. So I wouldn't worry bout it. But if one does, just know I'll protect you, okay?" I smiled and leaned down as best as I could, with my cheek to the platform, letting her give a quick kiss.
"Thanks love. But we better get going. Some of us still have to eat." She winked, Mr Baskowits waving to me as they descended the platform.
Slowly I stood back up and headed back to find an empty spot to rest in, mostly just laying on my back, staring up at the clouds. I hoped the cure would be found tomorrow, and this would all be resolved, but then something occurred to me.
What if some of these furs didn't want to be cured? I had seen the looks in some of their faces, like they were eager to get bigger. What if they couldn't be stopped and everyone else shrunk down? No, everything would be fine. Everything would be back to normal soon.
