The Wolf-talker Part 1: The Meeting
This is my first story, so it is probably going to be bad. But please review and let me know what you think.
This story's characters come from 2 books I read about a year ago called The Eye Of The World" and "The Great Hunt"both by Robert Jordan. If you dont understand some of the things or characters in this story then read the books, because this only focuses on the character Perrin.
Enjoy
*******************************************************************************************
Perrin woke up with a startled yell. He was in the campsite that the Shienarian soldiers set up
for the night on their way to find "Lord" Rand, Loial the Ogier and the shienarians sniffer
(someone who can sense where evil has been).
Perrin tried to recall his dream. It had wolves involved,he knew that. Ever since meeting Elyas,a man who could speak with wolves, perrin had been having visions and thought not his own.He remembered the last time he saw Elyas was when they past through the desert with him.He also remembered the wolves that followed Elyas and scouted infront and behind.
Perrin got up, dressed quickly, and headed out of his tent. There would be no more sleep for him tonight. He walked slowly over to a grimacing shienarian, and said "You had better get somesleep. I'll take over for you." The shienarian nodded and left.
When perrin was sure that everybody was still asleep, he reached out with his mind, looking for wolves. He gave up after about five minutes. There were no wolves withing his contacting distance.
He gave a long sigh of relief.
Perrin tried again a couple hours later, and still found nothing. Perrin was begining to think that wolves didnt live in the forest nearby.Thats when he felt it.
A consciousness that wasnt human. And it was coming closer. He sighed and got up, looking around to see if anyone was looking towards him, and ran out of the camp.Another quick check made sure no one was following him.
As perrin drew closer, he could notice more things about the wolf and its personality. for one, it was a female, and it also seemed by her thoughts and emotions that she lived alone.
Perrin recalled what Elyas had told him about communicating with wolves. They didnt use words, instead sending images, scents and thoughts to each other that symbolized words.
He stopped when he neared the edge of the forest, and he saw a wolf catiously step out from the protection of the trees.Perrin began Sending thoughts, pictures and messages with his mind to the wolf:
A questioning thought answered by a startled one
A man with an axe answered by a picture of him running, wielding his axe and a thought;"Young Bull"
Perrin jumped at this.He wondered why the wolves called him "Young Bull"and how this wolf knew who he was. Then he remembered
somthing he had heard form Elyas. All wolves coud send messages through to each other by passing it along with other wolves.
He asked the name of the wolf, and a thought was sent to him. "A misty morning and the dew on flowers surrounding a lake".Perrin diddnt know what this meant so he silently named her Mist.
He then questioned Mist why she was here, because Elyas had told him that wolves normally stayed a few miles from any humans.
She answered with a reply perrin had come up with on his own: I felt someone able to communicate with us.
Perrin sent another message "now you have found him".He caught a scent of happiness coming from herand he strained in the dark to see Mist better
She was about 3' 2" tall and had sleek, snow white fur across her back, while everywhere else had a light gray to it. She had golden eyes
like all wolves, yet hers seemed lighter somehow. Her fur was entangled with branches and dirt covered her paws, but Perrin suspected that was because she hurried to see who the person was that could talk to wolves.
Mist motioned for Perrin to follow her and though he needed to go back to the camp, he did. She led him to a clearing about half the size of the camp he was in. There was a small stream running through the side and a bed of leaves in the other corner of the clearing.
Mist walked to the middle of the clearing and lay down on the ground. Perrin sat down too, across from mist, and they talked.
Perrin found out that Mist had been living alone in this forest for as long as she could remember, even after the death of her parents and mate.
She had learned to hunt and trap by her father Blaze and her mother Moon taught her how to sense other wolves and people that talked to them.
She was 6 years old when she had mated to a male named Hunter and was only 8 when some Trollocs attacked, killing her pack while she was out hunting.
And she was Perrins age now, and had only been contacted 12 days before his arrival that he, another human tht could contact wolves, actually existed.
Perrin shook his head trying to reason out why he wanted to know all of this, but couldnt.
After about an hour of exchanging thoughts and emotions, Mist got up and started walking off. When Perrin asked where she was going, she replied "To hunt
for food." Perrin looked at her as she walked off.
Shaking his head, he went and lay against a tree that stood just inside the clearing.
He lay there for a few minutes, looking up at the sky, and thiking about Mist. That is when Sleep overtook him.
A few minutes later, Mist returned from hunting with 3 rabbits and a couple squirrels. she found Perrin lying on his side, curled up in a balldue to a
chilly breeze that picked up. she stood there, looking at the human that could talk to wolves, to her.Putting the food down, Mist bit the neck of Perrins shirt and draged him onto the bed of leaves. After checking that everything was alright,
Mist lay down beside Perrin, moved closer to him, and let sleep overtake her as well.
