An Unexpected Reunion
Exile gasped waking from his sleep. He had yet another nightmare. Every time it was Blitz killing him. Every time the dream was to dark to see the surrounding area. All Exile could see was Blitz holding a pistol to his head and pulling the trigger. Exile just could not explain as to why these dreams kept happening, but it kept waking him in the morning. The one thing that made this worse is that he has had a crush on Blitz for the past year now. He had only noticed after the rovers split up after the Neo Rovers incident. The old rovers experiencing a bit of future shock were decommissioned.
"Geh my head. Third time this week. I am having no sleep, what am I going to do?" He got up out of bed and walked to the medicine cabinet. "Damn out of Tylenol."
Since the rovers split, they have been getting pay from the government and have not needed to work. Colleen and Hunter went off to a vacation home in Hawaii. They tend to call Exile a lot. Shag has been off trying to pursue a cooking career; Exile has liked the food he has been sending. Muzzle stayed with Shepard, the master could not stand to let him go. The master stays in touch with all the rovers, making sure they are doing fine.
Blitz has been out of contact the last few months, which was really upsetting Exile. He was in close contact with everyone, but slowly Blitz stopped answering calls, not even emails. The rest of the rovers were getting upset, one of their friend practically fell off the map. Exile was taking it hard, even though he tried to hide it. The recent dreams were not helping his emotions either.
After slamming the medicine cabinet closed, he yawned and headed downstairs. He got quite the nice house after splitting. It was rather big, which the husky liked in case he ever was to invite the rest of the rovers over. Even with the emptiness, he loved the house. Mainly for the view, it provided. He looked at the clock, it read ten twenty five. He grunted slightly and turned to the fridge to find something for breakfast.
Just then, the phone began to ring. "Da? This is Exile speaking."
"Exile... Could you pick me up at the airport? I'll explain when you get me..." Exile nearly dropped the phone. He could recognize the thick German accent anywhere.
"I'll be right on my way comrade!" Exile just barely heard the thank you Blitz said he hung up so fast. He was on the highway before he knew it.
He still could not believe the jump in tech that had happened from 1999 to 2010. He had a gps built into his car so he would not get lost living in America. He moved to Michigan so he had at least somewhat of a tie back to Russia. Though he thought since there was so much new around him, he might as well live in a new place. He had only recently moved to the tourist trap of a town, so he really needed the gps. The airport was not really packed so he spotted Blitz right away when he got inside.
"Blitz my comrade it's been too long!" Exile said pulling the Doberman into one of his customary bear hugs.
"Could you just get me to a hotel? I'll te-" Blitz was abruptly cut off as Exile strutted off with Blitz's bags.
"No comrade of mine will be staying at a hotel when I have a perfectly good bed to share with them!"
"Yeah ya yeah but... "Blitz let out a sigh "I should have known this would happen." Blitz gave a faint smile and followed the husky to the car.
Even though Blitz had wanted to tell Exile all the things that had happened it ended up being a car ride filled with nostalgia. The rovers talking over some of their good missions together. Even through all the good memories Blitz was getting confused, they had been driving for almost 15 minutes.
"How far to your house? It took you about five minutes to get to the airport." Blitz was looking for a potential driveway.
"Not far comrade, it's at the top of that hill." Exile said pointing to a rather large house resting at the very top of a hill, slightly hanging off the back. Blitz just sat there in awe of the huskies house until it slipped out of sight as they rounded the first curve of the winding road. "I guess I got to the airport so fast because I was going 90!" Exile said starting into a laugh. Blitz began to chuckle a bit with him.
The house was in sight now as they rounded the last corner.
"So comrade, what brings you to Michigan?" Exile said taking some of Blitz's bags out of the car. Blitz grabbed a few more of the bags and followed Exile into the house.
"Well it's actually a bit embarrassing. After the rovers split as you know I went to Germany. Things were going great; I had all the pretty ladies, I even got to bite a few tooshies." Blitz was awaiting the customary "Don't be weird boy" line of Exile's, but he just stood there listening. "While I was at this cafe there was a shooting, some guy had a grudge against the owner of the shop or something. Anyway I had been talking to this husky I was sitting next to talking about peppermint shakes when the shots started coming. Before he could do anything he was shot in the head right before my eyes." The sad look on Blitz's face triggered an instinctual comforting need in Exile. He sat next to the Doberman gently rubbing his back as he continued. "After that I just didn't want to talk to anyone. Not the master, not shag, not Colleen or hunter, not even you. The master got a bit concerned and sent me to a shrink. After four months of sessions, she decided that probably the best cure would be to go see one of the rovers. She recommended I go see you due to the circumstances of the incident. And so, here I am." Blitz was beginning to tear up at this point when Exile pulled him into a hug.
"Comrade, my house is always an open place for you, stay as long as you need to." Exile was cherishing this closeness. However, he did not expect the next move. Blitz buried his head in Exile's chest and began to cry. "It's alright comrade. It is all right. Why don't you rest for a while and I'll get you some lunch together okay?" Exile said patting the Doberman on the back.
"Ya, I'll go take a nap." Blitz said trying to stifle the sobs.
