Kai and Serenity had better low-light vision than I did, so when they froze on the spot, I did as well. I couldn't quite see what was going on, but I could hear it. I moved closer and felt Kai grab onto my leg. That didn't stop me from getting closer still and I saw it.

A Graveler, the evolved form of Geodude. It had one hand on a girl's back, who looked to maybe be my age from what I could see in the low visibility. She was bent over, hands against the wall as Graveler pushed an orb against her ass. I could almost feel her legs shaking under her as it was pushed in. She had a big mug of coffee in front of her and a look like she bit into a sour berry. She looked out the window for a moment and simply tossed me a key for a room. Nurse Joy was nowhere to be found, but from what I could hear coming from one of the rooms, she was busy. Probably leaving poor Chansey to work overtime.

The two warned me of the threat of wild Geodude who would sometimes pop out of the walls or piles of rubble. There was a number of wild pokemon coming out and causing trouble. Several trainers had to flee after they were overpowered. Some of the workers too.

With that info, I entered the mine with some reservations, but I needed to find the gym leader. Without him, I couldn't get my first badge. "Geodude!"

That was the idea, but even good plans can go bad when you come into contact with the enemy. My enemy was a number of Geodude and Zubat that really didn't like me walking in their turf. Some of the Zubat even attacked the Geodude, using Supersonic to stir up trouble. I ducked as Kai turned around and started blowing bubbles all about, his eyes rolling around.

"Kai, to your left! Your left! No! Not mine! The le-" I was cut off by a bubble splashing in my face. Bubble or not, they burst with some force and carried more water than one might think at first glance.

In the chaos, I couldn't see where my Zubat went among the others. These Geodude were too low level to be throwing around Rock or Ground type attacks. Good thing too. None of my pokemon had any defenses against that. I probably should have hunted for another pokemon. Something that could-ACK!

"Okay Zubat, if you're going to use Astonish on something..." I pulled Zubat from my backside and threw it. "There's your target!"

Several Zubat had scattered while a couple Geodude rolled off, but there were too many for me. I looked around for help and only found a Geodude hitting the far wall. Something was going on and it was sending the Geodude out in force. Even the Machokes who worked the mines resorted to throwing them at the rest. They wouldn't have as much trouble, but I needed to get out!

"Kai, Serenity, Zubat, we're getting out of he-EEEEE!"

My spine shot up so fast that my feet didn't even have time to get off the ground. A Geodude was right behind me with a happy look on his face and a couple of smooth orbs in his hand. They were the size of golf balls and looked to be covered in some kind of oil, maybe a natural lube they make. Before he could react, I had spun around and had my foot just under his chin. I screamed in pain and fury as I sent him up into the air, grabbed another Geodude about to hit Kai, and used that one as a bat. I sent the first smashing through their number and used my living bat to clear the way for my pokemon.

I chucked the Geodude and, painfully, made my way to the pokecenter. What I would find was Nurse Joy running in and out, trying to sort out all the injured pokemon. I had been too busy to notice at first, but I wasn't the only person fighting in the mine. There were guys who looked like they were tending to bruises, while the girls were mostly okay. Only they were all standing together near a doorway and each was holding her-ah, right. I put my pokemon up for healing and joined the girls by the wall.

"You new here?" the girl standing nearest me asked. I nodded and she continued on to say, "You look like you got the Pearl Popper."

"The what?" I asked. Another girl turned to find out as well.

"It's what some of us call it when the Geodude don't even wait for the others to beat your pokemon. While you're busy, one of them pops you one. Right in the-ffff..." she trailed off as she winced. "I got the Party Stack. They beat my pokemon and pulled me down. I've got three, but they at least take it easy on you if you know how to relax. It's not quite as bad and at least they chase off the others to do it."

"Easy for you to say..." another girl said. "I took the Mineral Special..."

Me and the other girl looked at each other and then to the girl nearest me.

She leaned in and said, "She got caught by an Onix." She must have known what we were going to do because she slapped her hands over both of our mouths. "Yes, I know they are big, but they use small pearls. Well, small for them. An Onix pearl is the size of my fist."

"At least they pump your ass with some fucking lube!" the other girl growled in pain. The boys all heard her and looked at their wounds. They were alive and they had potions to help with the pain. Us girls, on the other hand, were not as lucky.
