Sincere Tears: Sweet and Spice
#2 of Sincere Tears
I originally wanted to post this on Valentine's day, but the unforseen site crashing prevented it.
Tim's POV
The annoying beeps of the alarm clock forced my heavy-eyes to split open. Upon gazing up at the white lined ceiling. I groaned, removing the covers to be embraced by the below temperature morning air. Even if the blankets covered my lower half, nothing could protect my top half. Scratching my dark chocolate bed leveled chest fur with a loud drawn out yawn. I got up in my red and black plaid boxer briefs. I was still half asleep, but the red pen marked circle on the calendar was as clear as day.
Today was my little sister's birthday and I was able to secure the day off to celebrate. Hannah was turning eighteen and her final childish wish before becoming an adult was trying archery. The idea still makes me chuckle, remembering how determined she looked, wanting to fire an arrow. Like a certain curly haired fox, who wanted to be a warrior rather than a prim proper princess.
The smile on my face grew, but the pit in my empty stomach felt differently. The party won't start until this afternoon, so I had a lot of time on my paws. Pulling a change of clothes out of the dresser I walked to the bathroom. Because of my size and bulk, I squeezed through the doorway like that white marshmallow in 'Big Hero 6'. I chuckled again, stripping the last piece of clothing onto the ground and placed the new clean clothes on the counter. The shower was a tight fit for a '6'2' beefcake of a grizzly like me, but it's manageable.
I reached for the shampoo hanging on the shower rack to clean my fur. After knocking over the Shampoo, conditioner, and my other shower utensils over and over again. I invested in getting the shower rack, so I didn't slip every time I bend over to pick whatever it was off the ground. The warm water helped ease my muscles and wash away the morning drowsiness. The shower rack wasn't my only investment. After some accidents, I was able to safe proof my apartment from my...clumsiness.
Was I cursed or something. What did I ever do to deserve such a fate? Sure I may have accidentally tripped and push my grandpa into a pond, but he was okay and laughed it off. Or the time I knocked over the chair in my mom's kitchen as a cub and started a domino effect. In the end, we had to clean our breakfast off the ceiling. I can still remember my backpack smelling like eggs. My stomach growled again, demanding to pick up the pace.
Finishing my shower, I turned on the fur dryer and brushed out the puffed up fur. I changed into my new clothes in front of the mirror. Debating if I should change because I looked like a sexy lumberjack with my chest tightly held together by the buttons of my plaid dress shirt. A tuft of dark chocolate fur stuck out from the opening that couldn't fully close. And the navy blue jeans really left nothing to the imagination.
Before I could decide my phone started to ring from my room. I rushed over and unplugged it from the charger to see I missed four calls. I cursed and noticed they were all from my little sister. Hitting answer I brought the phone close to my ear and almost fell over when a loud screech destroyed my eardrum. Rubbing the now death ear I switched sides and placed the phone on my other ear.
"Was that really necessary?" I asked slightly irritated.
"Yes, yes it was. I called three, no, four times and you didn't pick up. Here I thought you forgot or tried to ignore me. Mean big brother." Hannah huffed and puffed in the phone, but I could tell she was teasing me.
"Well if that's the case, then you don't deserve the gift I got you for blow horning my ear off." I fired back, making her whimper on the other side.
"Hey, no fair! I didn't even use a blow horn. If you answered the first time I called, then you would have known I used the car horn, waiting for your big fluffy ass to come out." The young bear countered with a pout.
Why was Hannah here this early in the morning?
"Alright, alright. I'm coming down now." I answered, hanging up the phone. Before leaving, I made sure to grab everything I needed. Wallet, phone, keys, Hannah's present, which was placed into a tissue paper filled birthday bag, and a emergency kit...just in case. Safely placed into my sun bleached hazel shoulder bag I got for my twenty-second birthday. Kneeling a bit so I don't hit my head against the doorframe. I made my way to the front gate after climbing down the stairs. A young light brown cream-colored bear leaned from her car as she spotted me through the ugly green gate.
She beamed and waved me over when I opened the door. The smile on my face grew until a certain familiar feeling of unease came over me. I stopped and out of instinct swung my right arm back, almost decking my little brother in the nose. Rick the middle child, aborted the mission when he realized his sneak attack failed.
"Boy! What is wrong with you?! I could have knocked you out cold." I growled, biting off the roar before it surfaced.
I love Rick very much, but these little "Surprises" are going to send him to the hospital. The younger sibling chuckled and ruffled his head fur sheepishly.
"Sorry, old habits die hard. Well, what are you waiting for? Come on!" Rick grinned, grabbing my paw and pulling me to the youngest bear.
"You were in on this too. Weren't you?" I accused, pointing a paw finger at the guilty looking she bear.
"I don't know what you're talking about... Hey is that my gift?!" She stared at the bag in my left paw ready to snatch it.
"Hannah no swiping, Hannah no swiping, Hannah no swip- Hey!"
I tried to tease my little sister, but her attempt to seize the bag failed when I raised it above my head. She pouted trying to win me over with the puppy dog eyes.
"You know the rule. You have to wait at your party. Now what reason did you guys came so early." I asked the pouting bear.
"Mom wants us to hang out at home. She made her famous Apple pie and won't let me have a slice unless we were under the same roof.
I burst out laughing and Rick joined me. Our sister's cravings for sweets are strong in this one.
It didn't take us long to get to our mother's house. It was quite lovely. Old yet firm. Rustic, but modern. The grass was cut nicely and the flowers were gorgeous in colors of yellow, orange, and red like the sunset. Under a tree rest the old water fountain where birds gathered to bath. A bird feeder hanged on a branch close by as well. I could feel a cool breeze ruffle my head fur. We entered the house one by one and the smell of our mother's apple pie hit my nose instantly. I could feel my mouth water as I remembered the many times I tasted that dish as a cub.
No matter how many times I try to recreate the recipe, it never tasted or smelled the same to hers.
"Mom! I'm back!" Hannah yelled.
"Dear I might be old, but I'm not death. Please don't yell." An elderly grizzly walked in smiling at her daughter before turning to me. Her smile grew tenfold.
"Timmy! Oh my baby boy!" She ran up to me for a hug, which I gave full heartedly.
"M~Mom! Stop your embarrassing me." I pretended to shoo her away. She patted my paw and laughed at my playfulness.
"Still the same adorable cub. Why don't we all go talk in the kitchen, while I slice the pie up." Before mom could turn Hannah ran into the kitchen on a mission.
"Hannah don't you dare touch that pie!" Mom scolded, running after her. Rick chuckled and I shook my head. It was like the old times when we're all cubs again.
I enjoyed the time I spent with my family. Mom's pie was to die for and I discovered some juicy gossip about my siblings. They both looked at me pleadingly. Eh. I wasn't going to blackmail them...yet that is. By the time it was noon, we finished the pie and made our way to the car. Mom was going to stay home, while we went to the party. Rick and I rented the archery field for the rest of the day. When we first told Hannah what we did. She was very overjoyed.
When we got there a couple tables were set and lights and streamers hung on rods. A big sign saying happy birthday hung high as a group of people that were the youngest bear's friends sat around. When they noticed us pull up they came running like stampeding bulls. Hannah was greeted with hugs and high fives as she left the car. Both Rick and I got out and the crowd froze when they saw me. Some of the female friends recognized me and waved. Heh...yeah I look intimidating, but I'm not really scary...am I.
I pondered the thought. Sure I've never been on a date before and most guys don't really...try to get near me. I frowned. Rick slapped me on the back, I realized some of the guests took a step back out of fear. Great...I grumbled.
I was sitting on the bench as everyone took turns shooting an arrow. I wanted to try but knew better with my luck. Some of them were pretty good.
"Why don't you try?" Hannah called out next to me. I jumped, startled like cat with loud sounds.
"Are you for real?" I calmed down and looked at her before turning back.
"Just once! I don't like my big brother moping around all day. Come on, what's the worst that can happen?"
"Did you literally just say that." I gawked at her dumbfounded.
"Pretty please, for me." She begged, trying to use the puppy dog eyes again. I grumbled and sigh as I complied. She beamed with joy and fetched a bow and arrow. I shook my head and waited in the shooting range. She came back with Rick and handed me the items.
"Good luck big bro." Rick said, making me wonder if he means to hit the mark or not accidently hit someone.
God I hope I don't hit someone. Please make it. I quietly whined and pulled the arrow like the others before me did. Aiming directly at the target, I held in a breadth ready to fire. At least that was the idea, until someone shouted
"Watch out!" An arrow almost hit me in the arm, but missed. However thanks to the sudden distraction I let go of the arrow in the wrong, very wrong direction. My blood went cold as it flew behind a tall bush. I let out a breath thinking everything was okay, but the loud shriek begs to differ.
I could feel my eyes bulge and heart race as I ran towards the screaming. Rick and Hannah followed behind me along with some of the other guests. I was already ahead of them when I spotted the screaming female wolf over the body of a male dog. Fuck! I got closer to see the dog was a Shiba and he was dressed in blue... Double Fuck! I shot a cop! Please don't be dead, don't be dead! I whimpered kneeling near the cop. He was rolled in a ball, clutching his knee where the arrow stuck out. His whimpers created a huge hole inside my gut as I examined the wound. He was bleeding.
"Hey! Look at me!" I called out to the cop. He slightly opened his eyes that were filled with tears because of the pain.
"I have a first aid kit." I said showing him the box after taking it out of my bag. He whimpered and nodded his head knowing what I was going to do. I grabbed the arrow with one paw and held his ankle with the other. He braced himself and covered his muzzle with a paw. Using all my strength I pulled out the arrow. His eyes shot open and his muffled scream made me cringe.
Quickly getting to work, I disinfected the wound and bandaged it. But he needed real medical attention. I knew the closest hospital from here and picked up the dog. He whimpered from the sudden motion and wrapped his arms around my neck. He held on to me tightly, which made my face heat up. No! Now's not the time for this. I turned around running towards the car. Rick was there, waiting for me to put the cop in the back seat. Hannah was going to stay to calm down her friends as Rick started to pull out of the parking lot.
We were going to make it, but sudden traffic made me growl and Rick slam his paws on the horn. We're going nowhere and this cop needs help. My temper was rising and I had enough waiting. I almost tore off my seatbelt exiting the car. I ran around and carefully pulled the dazed cop out of the back seat. Holding him close I ran towards the hospital. I could hear my brother yelling behind me, but I ignored it. Five blocks? Six blocks? I don't know how much further, but nothing was going to stop me. The odd stares most of the citizens' gave me were either shock, uninterested, or amused.
I wanted to punch those that thought this was entertaining because this was not funny in the least. Out of breathe and pretty much covered in sweat from head to toe. I made it to the hospital where I desperately called for help. The Shiba cop was still clinging to me. And the make shift bandage was red with blood. The doctors and nurses jumped to action. One of them brought over a bed and ordered me to gently put the patient down. I would have found it cute when the cop didn't let go of my neck, but he really needed to be looked at.
I told the nurses that I was going to wait here. Since it was mostly my fault. Watching them take the officer through the double doors, I took a seat and waited patiently. It was half past an hour before Rick made it to the hospital. He sat next to me, but I was too distracted with the dog's well being. That and the fact I might get arrested for almost killing a police officer. Two hours passed before a panther doctor came out and waved me over. I speed walked towards him with my brother following along.
"You are the bear that brought Mr. Blume, the officer. Correct?" He asked.
I nodded my head.
"Don't worry. The surgery went well and he's going to make a full recovery. He wanted to see you...room 324." The panther smiled before going back through the doors. I stared at the doors wondering if I should go or not. But I made my decision. I sucked in my gut and crossed the doors in search for the room. Rick told me he was going to head back to see how the party was doing. I agreed and told him I'll take a bus back.
Finding the elevator in the hall. I found the floor and finally made my way to the room. The Shiba was lying in bed with the thin blankets covering the lower half. His blue police uniform was removed and hanged over the door. Exposing his white under shirt for the world to see. The curtains were closed, but there was enough light from the sunset to peek through an opening. His fur was glowing like a small flicker of a candle. It hypnotized me and made me want to test how soft it was. With each intake of air his well-defined chest soared and descended.
"Are you going keep staring?" The voice spoke making me snap back to reality. The Shiba's eyes were open and they were a dark shade of amethyst. His friendly smile helped calm me down and I chuckled gradually getting closer. God was I nervous. This cop was striking and his smile alone turned my legs to jelly. It's been awhile since I felt butterflies in my stomach this badly.
"Um...I-I'm sorry for shooting you!" I blurted out like an idiot. I blew it! I squeezed my eyes shut ready to be chewed out, but instead of a yell.
It was a giggle that turned into a full on laugh.
"F-Forgive me, but I'm a little loopy with painkillers." He chuckled then coughed to settle down.
"I know it was an accident so I'm not going to press charges." I felt the weight lift off my shoulders instantly.
"But-"
'Damn.' I thought.
"Seeing as how I can't walk for a while or work... if you don't mind helping me." I was a bit speechless. He was asking a complete stranger for help, who caused his injury in the first place.
"Okay, I'll help you." I finally answered, earning a huge smile. My ears felt warm when he looked at me. A cough made me jumped and I turned to see another cop waiting at the entrance. He looked like an old German Shepard, but the stars on his uniform gave me all the information I needed.
"Chief Rockwood?! I wasn't expecting you sir!" The Shiba called out before saluting the other canine.
"At ease, Blume. I came to get your report... Are you going to press charges?" I gulped when the intimidating dog-stared daggers at me.
"N-No Sir. It was an accident." The Shiba defended.
"...Alright. You will be on temporary leave with pay until the doctor gives you permission to return. Understood." The Shiba nodded and the chief of police left. Not before glaring at me one last time.
"He doesn't like me very much." I commented feeling the pressure leave.
"It's not that he doesn't like you. It's just the fact you injured one of his own." The orange and white dog committed naturally.
"Should I be worried?" I turned back to the door, wary if he would return.
"As long as this doesn't become a daily occurrence, then no." The Shiba sighed with a yawn. He lay back onto the bed and waved to the empty chair next to him.
"Can you stay and chat or are you busy at the moment?" He asked calmly, but I could make out the whimper in his voice.
'Did he want me to stay?' I thought feeling the butterflies come back.
"I-I'm not doing anything right now, so I can stay." He seemed to lighten up.
"We haven't really introduced ourselves properly, have we? My name is Ray Blume. I've been a officer for three years and turning 24 this spring." Ray stretched out his paw and I took it.
"My name is Timmy Clawson, but everyone calls me Tim. I'm a chef for the 'Red Thread'. " I gripped his paw firmly and the warmth resonating off his smaller paw felt nice. I really wanted to hold on longer; sadly I had to give back his paw.
"I turned 24 last month, so I guess that makes me older then you." I grinned, making him chuckle.
Ray stopped chuckling and craned his neck to look behind me. His ears fell back nervously and gave me an awkward smile. I turned around to see a black Shiba holding an orange ball of fluff in his arms. Unlike Ray he appeared more serious, dressed in a black suit and red tie like a businessman. He speed walked over to us and pulled me up from the chair.
"Name?" His tone was cold and kind of robotic. "T-Tim."
He waved a paw at the pup in his arms and introduced the child as Sora. Suddenly, He grabbed my arm and pulled me through the door. Before I could retaliate, Sora was in my arms and the door closed in front of my face. I was left dumbfounded as I overheard the black Shiba complain to Ray. Meanwhile, Sora was staring up at me and laughed.
"What's so funny munchkin?" I wiggled my eyebrows which earned another fit of giggles.
"B-Beary! Beary!" The little orange ball waved his small paws. I drew my face closer and grinned.
"You don't find me scary?" I whispered playfully.
Sora looked up at me with bright violet eyes and shook his head placing both paws on my cheeks.
"Beary good!" I felt my heart rise. This pup wasn't scared of me. I wonder if Ray likes bears too.
