A Sabrewolf Encore (3/4)
A sequel to A Sabrewolf Encounter, Vyrnen is starting to find that electronics were acting strange around him after his fateful encounter with the technomancer hybrid from months before, which prompted him to look for the reclusive hybrid. What he finds is that while he was hunting for Serathin there were others that were keen on finding him instead.

Vyrnen awoke on the small cot that had been provided to him, looking up at the ceiling of the basement that he and his new partner had gone into only a few hours before. The cheetah had told him to get some sleep while they prepared for their next move and that it would be easier for him to talk to Serathin if he was unconscious. While the nanite dragon wasn't that tired he decided it would be best to get what recharging done he could and fell asleep quite quickly. Now that he was awake once more he heard voices in the other room that caused him to get out of the makeshift bedroom and head into the main area of the basement.
There he saw Noah with a number of weapons on the table, inspecting each of them while Serathin sat there on the other side working on a virtual keyboard. Even though he wasn't actually there he could work with a limited capacity over the digital world with the connection that Vyrnen provided. "Welcome back to the land of the living," Noah said as he looked down the feed chamber of a pistol before snapping it back into place. "Unfortunately there's no continental breakfast here, but I do have some of those small boxes of cereal that aren't really enough for a bowl but they're packaged that way so you have to use two at once. Anyway it's over in my pack, eat while you can."
Vyrnen nodded and got himself one of the boxes, which after he was told he had to eat it dry just began to crunch on the morsels he fished out while looking at the guns on the table. "This is a lot of hardware," the nanite dragon said as he put his hand on a particularly large sniper rifle. "Are we going to lay siege to the place or what?"
"Nothing so crude," Noah said as he holstered the pistol that he had just finished checking. "I just like to make sure that I'm prepared for any situation."
"That's an understatement," Serathin said as he looked up from his screen. "We call him the quartermaster because he insists on bringing all this stuff to every mission, even though like every mission this one is going to require a bit more finesse."
"How so?" Vyrnen asked as he sat down. "What's the plan? Are there going to be more SHIFT agents joining us?"
Both the cheetah and the sabrewolf shook his head at that. "We can't have too many agents in one timeline at one time," Serathin explained. "Not only would that draw a lot of attention to us but the more of us there are in one place, save for the home base, the more... unstable the area seems to get. Don't ask me why but when even three or four of us go together it gets strange, particularly if they're not part of that timeline in the first place and have to get a suit. Speaking of suits, did you manage to get that Remote Mech I wanted to provide cover?"
"A Remote Mech is something that technomancers can use without having to inhabit it in order to carry out simple tasks," Noah explained when he could see the look of confusion on the dragon's face before turning back to the sabrewolf. "And no, I didn't. Barry got the last one."
"Well why the hell does Barry need one now?" Serathin replied angrily.
"Some derelict space station timeline," Noah said as he loaded a different pistol. "Said he requisitioned it a week ago."
"Did you tell them that this was a little higher priority than an observation mission?" Serathin asked as he crossed his arms.
"Of course I did," Noah replied. "You know how Barry is."
The sabrewolf rolled his eyes and turned to Vyrnen, who at that point was just attempting to keep track of the conversation before he realized that he was the one being regarded now. "I took the liberty of giving your nanites a temporary boost," he stated. "You will be able to turn yourself into any person you see and can fool cameras and optical readers. As long as you don't get into anything particularly nasty like bio-readers or DNA scanners you should be fine."
Serathin continued to instruct Vyrnen on some simple uses of his technomancy ability and especially how to use the new upgrade, then mentioned that he could sense someone coming and had to get back. The two said their good-byes to him and he nodded back before fading out of existence and leaving the room completely. After that it was just the two of them as Noah continued to check his equipment while Vyrnen sat there watching. As they continued to sit there in silence the dragon was suddenly surprised as the cheetah took the pistol he was checking and held it out for him, motioning for him to grab it when the seconds passed at he didn't.
"Oh, I don't know..." the nanite dragon said as he held the weapon in his hand. "I don't feel very good about this. I mean... I don't think I could kill anyone."
"You'd be surprised what you can do if the circumstances demanded it," Noah replied before he gave Vyrnen a wink. "Relax, what you're holding there is a SHIFT pistol, also known as a sliver gun. The barrel is composed of a special neodymium alloy that generates a powerful magnetic field with a stainless steel shell to prevent it from sticking to everything. Inside the clip that I loaded up is a solid block of chemically treated nickel-iron alloy, when you pull the trigger it shaves a sliver of metal no thicker than a needle and fires it at a target with a speed that could pierce tank armor. Now normally that would only cause mild discomfort in who you shot, maybe more if you aimed for the eyes or the testicles, but that's where the chemically-treated part comes in as when the metal makes contact with the bloodstream it releases said chemical and poisons the target."
"Poisons?" Vyrnen repeated as he looked at the gun. "Like what kind of poison?"
"Oh the usual effects," Noah said non-chalantly. "Severe vertigo, uncontrolled vomiting, dizziness, audio-visual sensory hallucinations, and in some cases extreme euphoria. Everyone reacts to the drug a little differently but the result is the same, complete incapacitation."
"Sounds rough," Vyrnen said as he took the holster given to him.
"Eh, it's no worse than the symptoms you hear on those erectile dysfunction meds and people take them all the time," Noah replied as he pressed a button on his skinsuit and it turned to a copy of the clothing that the guards he saw had. "Still I would only use it as a last resort in case our good looks and natural wit don't get us in. If we have to go guns blazing than we're in for a rough fight."
Vyrnen felt his anxiety rise slightly when he heard that, though he continued to remain calm as they grabbed a few more supplies before they exited the abandoned house they were using and began to walk towards the lab complex. As they traveled Noah filled him in on the next part of the plan, Serathin had taken the pass code he had successfully downloaded from the two guards in order to make fakes that would get them in. The second part of that program would loop around and delete that entry so when the real guards come it wouldn't flag the first one. Once they were inside they would use Vyrnen's nanites to signal one another so they could tell where Serathin in Vyrnen's body was and bust him out with an identity they would have to steal on the fly.
"So there's something that I've actually been meaning to ask you," Vyrnen said while they were still out a ways from the entrance to the lab. "When I went back to destroy the evidence of ever being in that club that bouncer didn't even know who you were, is that some sort of power that people in your organization have, like Serathin with his technomancy?"
Noah chuckled and lit a cigarette, taking a deep puff before blowing it out in a smoke ring. "Well it seems that other than the ability to shift from timeline to timeline it seems our timelines themselves seem to pick up useful abilities of their own," he explained while they walked. "Like you said Serathin is a technomancer in this and a few other worlds, though back at home base he doesn't have that ability naturally he can import it to himself to use if he wanted. For me I was given the gift known as the Spectre ability. I quickly evaporate from people's memories the second they stop talking to me."
"That's it?" Vyrnen replied. "You're forgettable?"
"In a manner of speaking, though a very simplistic version of it," the cheetah said as he stuck out his tongue. "Best way to describe it is to think of a time when you met someone new, talked to them a bit, thought they were a nice guy, and then as soon as they stopped talking and walked away someone else asked you who that was and there's that second where you are at a total loss for who they are whether or not you remember it later. People's recollection of me are basically confined to that second no matter what I do, I could have licked that rhino in the face and he wouldn't have remembered me once he lost sight of my body."
Vyrnen nodded for a few seconds, then shook his head and frowned. "But that rhino seemed to know you," the nanite dragon pointed out. "It was like you two were old friends and he even knew your name. Same for those two security guards too!"
"This is why I like making the stranger analogy," the cheetah replied with a grin. "So let's go back to that scenario where you forgot that guy who introduced himself to you, now the next day he comes up to you and starts chatting to you like a friend. Now since you recognize him but don't remember his name do you just say sorry buddy, I don't remember who you are?"
Vyrnen thought about it for a few seconds before he shook his head. "I guess not..." he said, and as he looked at the cheetah he was motioning for him to go on. "I suppose I would try to glean information off what he was saying so I didn't look foolish for not remembering someone who obviously remembers me."
"Exactly," Noah replied. "My power takes that feeling and ramps it up to eleven. Did you notice how I had to feed him that information before he realized that I was a trusted worker there, even though he had never seen me before in his life? To all people they feel that extreme sense of familiarity with me and, like you just said, will look for clues at my identity and then respond accordingly. All I do is just give them whatever identity benefits me the most; of course there are limits to such a power, I can't make someone think I'm their son or that I'm the President, but as you saw it does come in handy for many occasions."
The two talked a bit more about their experience in the strip club before they reached the outskirts of the lab complex and quieted down. With the two of them dressed like security guards and the forged cards that Noah made it almost appeared like they had been there for years, and the effect was apparent when they walked through the main gate and the security guard didn't even give them a second look. Of course getting on the lab complex grounds was only the first part, and admittedly the easiest as they scanned their cards into the reader to gain access into the campus itself.
Once they were inside the building itself they realized that they had their work cut out for them as they looked out over the expansive lobby area that connected all the different areas of the lab. Vyrnen quickly realized that the lab he had been working for, the one he and Serathin went in to steal the samples out of, was merely a satellite facility of this place. Dozens of scientists walked the area and through everything was labeled nothing made mention of a highly-secured lab or primary specimen holding area. That meant they had to guess... but when they walked down the stairs into the lobby proper they saw that all the areas had card readers as well and they just used their free pass to get inside.
Just as they started to try and scout out an area where they could feel the nanites of the other body Vyrnen noticed another problem that forced him to find a way to inconspicuously hide as a group passed by them. It was Caleb... no doubt here to gloat over his prize and to oversee whatever projects they were thinking of doing to his body. If he was here it meant they were going to do something major, something big enough that the mad doctor himself wanted to oversee. When they had passed far enough away that they were no longer in sight Vyrnen quickly pointed him out, to which Noah nodded before grinning.
"Looks like we found ourselves a guide," the cheetah said as he motioned for him to follow. "Now if what you said is true he may recognize Serathin's body, though since you were able to get through security it's probably just a vague idea, so I want you to hang back and watch me while I watch them. Whatever you do though don't let me out of your sight, I would hate for you to get lost in a place that wants to do experiments and things on you."
Though the reminder that they were in the belly of the beast caused Vyrnen to feel a pit of worry form in his stomach, he knew it was far too important to succeed to turn back now. Noah took the lead and began to walk down the hallway, following the progression of people that were around Caleb and once he was far enough Vyrnen began to follow suit. Even though he could still see the cheetah in front of him he began to feel like he was alone, especially as they got to one of the wings of the campus and the number of scientists there began to increase significantly. As he walked by many of them it felt like they knew he was an imposter even though they hardly gave him a second glance while they walked by.
About ten minutes later Vyrnen saw Noah stop, then motion behind his back to have him come forward still. When he got there he saw why the other male was no longer able to progress as they stared at the door that needed not only a retinal scan but also had a guard there watching people who got in. By this point Caleb had already disappeared, no doubt the lemur was already on the other side of that checkpoint as Noah motioned for them to move on. The two continued to keep moving to avoid suspicion and eventually the two found what Noah was looking for.
"Food court, perfect," Noah said as he looked around at everyone eating and talking. "Alright, time to dust off those technomancy powers you got. I need you to hack into the employee database that is currently tied to that retinal scanner and loop it through the HR database as well. This isn't going to be some computer in a strip club, they're going to have actual security measures here that you're going to have to go around."
First the two went to one of the small eateries and got themselves a plate of food each in order to continue to keep up their guise as security officers. Once they had sat down at one of the more secluded tables in the cafeteria the cheetah handed the nanite dragon a tablet in order to look like he was reading something when in fact he was about to hack into their network. Once the scene was set Vyrnen took a deep breath and tried not to visibly shake as he focused on his borrowed powers in order to do something he had only attempted once before. As he pretended to stare down at the device in front of him everything started to get all grey and hazy... and as it did bright lights began to appear all around him.
It took Vyrnen a few seconds to realize that he was looking at the information network of the entire area, as his brain began to more efficiently identify and process what he was looking at things became much clearer to him. The first thing he noticed was that there were glowing lines of light everywhere and as he followed them along he noticed that they mostly connected from people's devices they were using to a central hub that was closer to where they started in the facility. The second thing he saw was himself... even though the rest of the world and those in it were dull and gray aside from the devices they had his own form shimmered with green light that made him look like some sort of draconic sabrewolf hologram.
As Vyrnen acclimated to this new sensory experience he felt his body begin to float up and away from where it sat at the table. He looked back to see himself there, though like the hologram version he was currently in he only saw Serathin's body as it stared down at the tablet. He watched for a few more seconds and was surprised at how much the body continued to act like nothing was happening, even occasionally swiping his finger down the side of the screen of the tablet to make it look like he was reading something. It was all incredibly slowed down too... which the nanite dragon guessed was because he was traveling at the speed of thought technically. Of course he knew he still had a job to do and once he was able to control where he drifted he moved away from their table and towards the direction of the security gate.
It didn't take long for him to find it and when he did he saw exactly what Noah meant by security measures being put into place. Unlike the unprotected strands of light from the food court the ones that were connected to the door mechanism were covered in what looked like metal plates, a representation of the encryption protections on them to prevent him from just accessing it with a mere touch. He also noticed something else there too; it was a humanoid shape that was made out of pure blue light that seemed to be watching over the area and especially the couplings from the id scanner. After a bit of digging in the information storage of the saberwolf's mind he identified it as an automated security algorithm, programming a step below an AI that made sure no one could get close enough to the lines to hack into them.
With his scouting mission complete Vyrnen returned to his body and placed the tablet down on the table, which was the signal he was back and that they had to talk. "We have a problem," the nanite dragon said as Noah ate from his plate. "The whole grid is being watched over by a security sprite, I can't get to it without him noticing me and probably sounding the alarms."
"Well look at you using technomancer jargon," Noah replied with a grin as he glanced back in the direction of the security gate. "We could just go through the HR databanks and take a guess on whose identity we should steal but the problem is if they're already logged in it's going to throw up every red flag they have. However... if you're up for a challenge I know of a trick Serathin uses that may actually be to our benefit in the long run..."
A few minutes later Vyrnen was once more back in cyberspace at the security gate, watching its patterns in order to get a read on the thing. In order for their plan to work he had to make sure no one actually controlled the program themselves and if it was completely autonomous he still had to sneak up on it before it could sound the alarms. As he continued to watch however it appeared luck was on their side as it followed a fixed pattern of movement that he could exploit. Once it had gone into the part of the cycle that he needed it to go into he made his move and darted forward.
While he knew he couldn't get to it completely in time by the time the sprite had turned around and saw the hybrid heading towards him it only had a second for its programming to kick in. "This is a restricted-" was all Vyrnen would let it get out as he jammed his claws into the sprite's chest which, despite being made like it was composed completely out of light, sank a few inches in before it was stopped. That was all that the nanite dragon needed though as green lines of circuitry formed along his body, some of it taking the pattern that was on his own body before those glowing streaks began to spread from where the claws made contact outwards.
"You're mine now," Vyrnen said with a grimace as he continued to do what felt right. Noah had said that Serathin had the ability to convert sprites, meaning that they would continue to appear on the system and if done correctly still be in normal status. It was a risky maneuver but if he could get the security code to be on their side it was going to be all the easier for them to get deeper into the facility where his body and Caleb were.
"Error! Error!" the sprite called out as the green lines continued to trace their way over his body. "Core data corruption imminent! Auto-crashing now!" Vyrnen gritted his teeth as he saw the sprite begin to dematerialize, a safety mechanism to prevent exactly what the nanite dragon was doing to it. Before it could completely disappear from the system though he took all its power and found the program that was causing the crash to happen and disabled it with some well-placed strings of malware that immediately began to eat away at it.
The sprite continued to warn of data corruption and when its auto-crash failed it attempted to signal out for help. With Vyrnen's claws, and therefore code, embedded deep inside already though it was simply a matter of cutting the signal every time it attempted to do so. Eventually the words of the sprite began to garble and grow distinct as the lines of glowing green circuitry reached its head. As he watched the creature get reprogrammed its features started to change; instead of just a formless huamoid shape its body began to grow more defined until it looked a lot like the one corrupting it, complete with saberteeth that grew from its expanding muzzle as it blinked with glowing green eyes.
"I... am... reborn..." the sprite said as it clutched its new clawed hands, looking around before its gaze turned back to Vyrnen. "Saberdrone five-four-nine is on-line, what do you wish for me to do Master Serathin?"
Vyrnen pulled back his claws as it appeared that his infection worked, at least for now he had managed to rework the sprite into what the technomancer's memory called a drone and no alarms went off. When he asked for access to the files contained in the security gate it was more than happy to oblige, slicing off the metallic coating of the data stream and making a connection with him. It even looped it through the HR databanks for him as well before returning to his side. Even though it was acting according to the programming that had been inserted into it, the fact the sprite bowed on one knee and showed reverence to him was a bit to surreal and he told it to continue to act normally and stand ready for new commands.
"Well that was... interesting..." Vyrnen said as once he was back in the real world again. "You might want to talk to your friend about just what kind of programming he's putting into these sprites when you have a chance."
"Yeah, he does say that he gets a bit of a power trip every time he does it," Noah said with a chuckle. "But now it's time to focus on what's more important; with a sprite in your back pocket we can move easier through the gate, but now we're officially on the clock. If what Serathin told me is correct if someone does a manual check on it or it goes through its maintenance cycle there's a chance someone might see the malicious coding inside of it, so let's find someone whose look you can steal and get you in."
Once they finished with their meals they looked around the facility some more before they found a locker room where people stored their work clothes for the day, as well as shower and such. While they moved Vyrnen looked through the database that he had just been given access to in order to find out who wasn't scheduled to be at work today. "I found a few possible ones that I think we can use," the nanite dragon whispered as they entered into the locker room. "Are there any in particular I should be looking for?"
"Less complex the better," Noah whispered back as they saw that there were a few people here but they were in the shower. "Stay away from the spots and stripes, nagas too if you can help it. Also Serathin mentioned that when you're doing a cross-check in the HR database to try and find people with a code red seventeen disciplinary action in it."
"That is rather particular," Vyrnen replied as he began to scan everything with those parameters put into place. "What does that code entail and why are we looking it for it so keenly?"
Noah was about to explain before one of the other workers began to walk by the other side of the row of lockers, the cheetah waiting for them to pass before he began once again. "That particular disciplinary action is for inter-office fraternization," Noah explained while they continued to wearily sit on the locker benches. "It's far easier to fit a narrative around the truth and if we can find someone whose known for making that sort of mistake than its easier for us to sell others on them doing it again if we need it. Not saying we're going to have seduce someone, but it's always good to have flirting on the table because it can be rather disarming."
"I got someone," Vyrnen said as a picture came up in his vision along with their file. "Vincent Cyerna. He works in the same department that we're trying to get into and is scheduled to work way later tonight. Also says that he got in trouble about a year ago for maintaining an office relationship that was between him and another researcher. The other researcher was moved to a different department and he was docked in pay."
"Perfect," Noah said as he pulled out what looked to be some sort of lock picking set. "You give me the locker number than head into the bathroom and change, I'll go and get you his identification card... unless he brought it home with him, in which case I'll have to forge you a new one."
Vyrnen nodded and made his way to the bathroom stalls after giving the cheetah all the data he needed, which thankfully appeared to be empty as he went to the one at the end of the room and went inside it. Once he was there he pressed the button on his cuff and his uniform reverted back to the skinsuit. Though he had gone through the process with Serathin on how this new trick with the hybrid's body worked he still wasn't sure this would work, but seeing how he had control of the nanites that had assimilated this form it was more likely than not that he could pull it off as he concentrated once again. He could feel the tingle of the nano-machines getting to work as he continued to focus on the image of the one that he was about to impersonate.
With Vincent being a grey wolf the hybrid's already semi-canine body was able to adapt to the changes rather well. The silver and black fur of his arms and legs lost its coloration as the charcoal grey spread over it, eventually sneaking into the longer purple fur of his chest as well. As the color assimilation reached the blue scales of his hands and feet however he did feel a twitch in his fingers and toes as the hardened surface sprouted a shorter version of the fur and continued to progress. His muscular build diminished somewhat as the nanites extrapolated what Vincent looked like from the neck down, especially his tail that shrank and thinned down while the fur grew out into a more typical lupine tail.
As the changes seemed to cascade around his head and back he began to feel the physical changes far more profoundly than before. His hands went up to his head as the mixture of canine and draconic features shifted towards the former as his skull reshaped to accommodate them. Fortunately Serathin had the foresight to take the sensation of such changes and reroute them away from pain, though it didn't take much for Vyrnen to figure out what he went through instead as he had to clamp his muzzle to prevent himself from moaning loudly. He still let out a muffled grunt as his horns melted and slid back into his head while his maleness throbbed hard.
Just when Vyrnen thought that the changes had finished he nearly fell into the door as he suddenly felt his back shift. The wings that he had forgotten about were pulled into his body and the sensations were so intense that he almost came right there. More than once he found himself stroking his own maleness in order to take the focus off the extensive euphoria felt by those appendages disappearing back into his body. His other hand braced the side of the stall as he began to pant while his hips thrusted his own cock into his palm for the stimulation.
"Hey, you alright in there?" a voice that was not Noah's said that caused the transforming dragon to pause dead in his tracks, the adrenaline from the sudden fear of risking being caught overwhelming the even the intense pleasure of his wings melting into his form. "If you're in distress I know first aid, or I can call the medical squad to come in and help you."
"Uh..." Vyrnen said, trying to get used to his new voice as the last of the fur grew over the assimilated sections of his wings that had pressed into his body. "I'm... fine. How are you?"
There was a moment of silence and the newly created grey wolf slowly pulled his hand off his still twitching member as he waited for a response. "Vincent, is that you?" the other voice said, which caused a moment of both relief and anxiety, the former because he had fooled someone alright and the latter because this person may known who Vincent actually is. "What are you doing here so early? I thought you had the late shift this week."
"Well... you know how it is," Vyrnen stalled as he quickly adjusted his skinsuit to give him a semi-sensible work outfit that would be for someone who was about to go into a lab. "They call, you come, right?"
"Yeah, I guess..." the voice said with a slight note of unsurely that made Vyrnen nervous. "Say, what was the result on those tensile experiments with that new mono-filament you were testing?"
Whether or not the person on the other side of the stall knew that he wasn't Vincent didn't matter, he had no idea what the answer to this question was or even how to start bluffing his way out of it. He made some coughing noises as he took the silver pistol out of its holster and slowly lifted it up towards the door. He could hear the other guy ask again from closer to the stall door and Vyrnen knew that if he wanted to catch him by surprise he had to burst out before he got close to the stall itself. He took a deep breath and readied his gun, placing his hand on the door before giving a mental countdown of three... two...
"Hey there!" Noah's voice suddenly rang out, causing the shapeshifted wolf to pause before he had made his move. "It's Noah, from accounting, remember from the last audit that we did on the department?"
There was a moment of silence and Vyrnen crossed his fingers that whatever Spectre power Noah was using actually worked. "Oh yeah... you're the cheetah that managed to find those inconsistencies in our order rates that saved us a couple grand a year." The voice replied as Vyrnen breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the other male fill in the imaginary blanks. "You have quite the sharp eye, did we ever go out for drinks like we had said?"
"About a week after I think?" Noah replied, the other voice letting out a small ah of recollection. The two continued to talk for a bit and when it was clear the cheetah had established his alibi in the other male's mind he slowly stepped out. It turned out the other male was a horned lizard, clad only in a towel that meant he had most likely ended his shift already. "Oh, hey Vincent, thanks for coming in early to help me look over your recommendations for the budget this next fiscal quarter."
Vyrnen just nodded and passed by the reptilian man, who just gave him a smile and told him that he would see him around later. If there had been any animosity or suspicion about his identity it was clearly gone now as the two walked back towards the exit of the locker room. They made their way through the busy atrium back towards the security gate before he suddenly realized something that would have caused him to pause had the cheetah not kept ushering him forward. "You don't have an identity Noah..."
"Don't worry about it," Noah replied with a small wink before looking forward once again. "Just remember that your name is Vincent and utilize that sprite in your back pocket to get us through."
Though the disguised nanite dragon was weary he knew that Noah hadn't led him astray yet, still even as they walked together it felt strange that he was somehow going to get them both in. When they went up to the ram that was at the gate he handed him the security card that the cheetah had swiped out of the locker before saving him from the encounter with the horned lizard. The ram gave a brief look between the picture on the card and the wolf that represented it, then gave a nod and motioned over towards the retinal scanner. With his nanites copying Vincent's iris from the picture and the help of the sprite it wasn't long before there was a green light and the guard told him to pass.
Once they were on the other side of the door Vyrnen breathed a sigh of relief and looked over at Noah, who took the holster of the gun he had been holding and put it back. "Alright, so I'm pretty sure your power doesn't make you invisible," the nanite dragon said as they moved deeper into the facility. "So how did you manage to get through the gate without the guards even blinking an eye?"
"Simple really," Noah explained with a shrug. "I basically used my power but on the reverse polarity, instead of people having their attention on me while I mold a persona in their memory I just took all their attention and put it on you instead. That's why you needed to have the capability to turn into one of the other workers, I pushed all their eyes on you to the point where to them I essentially was invisible."
Vyrnen was about to comment on how that must be useful when he suddenly got a ping on his nanites that caused him to stop dead in his tracks. He could feel his real body was now close enough for him to sense, though now they had to be extra careful as Caleb was no doubt nearby as well. When he informed Noah his playful demeanor got serious very quickly and told him to lead the way.
