Hi all! This is my first submission for the Writers' Guild. If you don't know what that is, check it out (http://sofurry.com/group/1045) - it's a cool project this summer for writers to encourage writing, get constructive criticism, push boundaries, and build community. If you're at all interested I highly encourage you to participate! So far so good...it prompted me to write...and the results are below!

The unfortunate parts - I didn't get a chance to go back through and edit this, and there's still plenty I'd like to add to it. I may try and do that sometime next week, but I'm leaving for the weekend and needed to get this in. Hopefully it's still enjoyable! Also, expect another chapter at some point (tm).

The lithe lizard's tail twitched back and forth slowly as he basked on the ship's deck, sketching in the sunshine. One paw held the paper down from the seabreeze that washed over his scales - it really was a nearly perfect day. The sun was shining and he was on the trip of a lifetime...the first trip of this scale he'd ever been on. He knew he really shouldn't have been quite this far out toward the bow; the sailors had told him as much...but it was still too early for them to be about, and the view from here was incredible.

The lizard's paw was slowly adding shading to the drawing of the main building of his college, which he bid goodbye to just a week ago. He hadn't had much time to plan; his mentor had presented him with this opportunity only a few short days before the voyage began. "Can you stop by my office later today?" the old otter had asked, using the age-old phrasing that would leave the lizard morph worrying until then what the topic of their discussion would be. He wondered what it was about the older generations that led them to do that, instead of giving a hint so he could have prepared himself.

When the apprehensive lizard had entered the otter's office, though, he had found not a discussion of his work but the start of this adventure. "You're no doubt aware of my trip I had planned to the Tengann area" he began in a wizened but spry voice. The lizard's mind immediately recalled the voyage his mentor had mentioned before - to explore, observe, and document the sealife of that section of ocean - a particular section of few facts but much legend. He nodded and replied "yes, sir." "I'm sure you've also heard of the recent, concerning sickness of our dean. As much as it saddens me, my responsibilities here in that regard are going to prevent me from taking that journey." The otter looked up at the lizard, who was still confused as to where this was going.

"Well, the trip is already planned and paid for" he continued, "and this is an opportunity that should not be discarded, even if I cannot take advantage of it myself. Miguel...I'd like for you to take my place." The lizard stared back, stunned, and then began to stammer for a second, at once excited and confused. "But...I...thank you! But I'm not even one of your best pupils." "Make no mistake Miguel, there is more to a person than written scores. You may not have quite the ability to memorize as some others, but your ability to see the bigger picture and put smaller pieces of information together is unmatched by the others. And for this journey, your artistic ability" - the lizard often sketched while listening; it helped him remember and digest - "would be very helpful. What better way to document the creatures others have not seen - and support your own conclusions? I've seen your work, and I know you personally. You are, I believe, the right choice for this exploration."

"Thank you! I...thank you!" "You're quite welcome, and I hope you enjoy it and take full advantage of the opportunities. Before you accept though, give it some thought - there is plenty of risk involved in this trip as well. I'm sure you've heard the legends of the nearby waters. Not just legends, really - they've documented that many ships in that area simply vanish, and most routes - including the one you'll be on - now give a wide berth to the more dangerous waters. But keep in mind that it is near that area, and that you will be observing potentially unfriendly sealife. As with anything new, we can't say for sure whether those creatures pose a danger to you. I don't want to scare you, but I would be remiss not to present you with the dangers as well. The exciting possibilities I am sure you understand already."

"Thank you very much! I...I'm honored!" Miguel said, unsure of what else he could. "Think it over and get back to me in the next few days" the otter replied. Though his parents were no longer very involved in his life, the lizard had sent them a letter describing the exciting journey he would soon begin. Predictably, they were worried but supportive. His excitement outweighing his worries, and knowing that this could be a great help in making him more noteworthy in the scientific community, Miguel had eagerly accepted. The whirlwind of preparation began that led him to where he was today - cool deck under his scales, warm sun overhead, and a drawing in his hands as the ship sailed on. Onboard for about a week, the lizard knew they were in mostly unexplored territory now, and they'd reach his final destination in a day or two.

Lost and relaxed in his thoughts and the drawing, Miguel didn't notice as clouds began to form overhead. The breeze and waves began to increase, the lizard finally noticing the weather when a cloud obscured the sun and changed the lighting. Happy where he was, though, the reptile morph rationalized that it was probably just going to be cloudy and tried to ignore it. Finally, though, the vessel was pitching back and forth enough that it made it difficult to draw a straight line, and he sighed, knowing he'd have to go back inside. "6/15/1895" he wrote, dating his sketch and deciding it was as complete as it would get. As he stood, a wave hit the ship and sent him off balance - Miguel had always been slightly clumsy; he was certainly more intellectual than physical. He staggered a bit on the narrow point, and just at the wrong moment another wave hit. Before he had time to realized what had happened, the lizard's body hit the deck. His fall and the pitch of the boat sent his body under the guardrail, and then he was falling - his ears heard his own shout of surprised. Miguel felt a painful smack against the side of the ship and then the cool rush of water around him.

Fortunately, he was a fairly good swimmer, and once he had fought his way to the surface, he shouted up at the vessel. "Anthro overboard! Anthro overboard!" Yet he knew most of the crew would still be asleep; he'd taken advantage of that to sit farther forward on the deck. He still stared up expectantly - until he felt the undertow beneath the ship. Panicked, he'd forgotten that part of the training, and he felt himself pulled under...his head smacked against the ship, and everything went black.

When Miguel awoke, it was sunny again - and hot. He blinked his eyes in the brightness, immediately noticing the hotness on his back as he lay in...in the sand? The lizard quickly rolled over to see where he was and was met with yet another surprise - a large, somewhat intimidating reptile morph was standing next to him. He started and thought about running, but realized that if the creature had wanted to eat or otherwise hurt him, he already would have. Regretfully, he also realized that his sketchbook had been lost in the sea. All he'd have to remember this by - well, assuming he ever made it home - would be his own recollections. This striking reptile, though, he knew he would remember quite well.

Looking at the creature, Miguel realized that, surprisingly, it wasn't a species he'd ever seen before. Seeing a loincloth - and noticing the bulge there - he knew it was a male. The reptile had some light markings painted around his shoulders and chest, no doubt some sort of status or tradition. His elongated snout - and the large but mostly hidden muscles in his neck - reminded him of a crocodile or alligator, though the rest of his body was relatively anthro in form. The next thing he noticed was the lengthy, muscular length of tail the male possessed. He also had small fins that ran along his forearms and lower legs - no doubt this creature was quite a swimmer. Seeing this, Miguel realized that this creature was likely what had saved him from drowning after he'd fallen and been pulled under. As he stared at the reptilian male, he saw it stretch out a scaly hand toward him.

Tentatively, the lizard reached his own paw out toward the creature, allowing it to help him up. When he was standing, it really occurred to him how long this male was - he wasn't a lot taller than the lizard, but his tail stretched quite far. Hopefully, he began his first question "did you save me?" All he got in return was a somewhat confused expression from the larger male, which was what he had feared. That made things a little more complicated, particularly when he thought about how he'd figure out how to get back home. For now, though, he gestured toward the water, himself, and then the creature, receiving back a nod- he guessed that expression was universal. Thankful to his rescuer, Miguel slowly advanced and pulled him into a hug...which the creature returned only awkwardly. He made a mental note that the reptile's culture likely didn't use hugs the same way his did.

The lizard stood awkwardly for a moment, unsure what to do next, but fortunately, his rescuer saved him from the awkwardness as he gestured with his head for the lizard to follow him. Though he was a bit apprehensive, the male had been friendly to him, and he really didn't have much choice - he didn't want to be alone in this unknown place.

The sand quickly became jungle, and he followed the male along a path through it, noticing countless species he had never seen before. Not having been to a jungle or studied land-dwelling creatures in depth, Miguel was unsure whether any of them were undocumented, but he suspected this would certainly be an area of interest for other scientists. Looking ahead, he realized that the creature had a spear and what looked a little like a bow strapped to his back - though he was carrying rocks, not arrows, so it must launch those. Miguel also caught himself staring at the powerful tail and backside of the male he was following and shook the thoughts from his head.

Before long, they passed another reptile similar to the one who had saved him - its garb was different, and he noticed a lack of bulge; he knew it was probably a female. She stopped suddenly upon seeing the lizard. Miguel heard them exchange sounds in a way he didn't recognize, and their unknown language made him began to suspect that their society might not be known to the modern world. Before he'd left, he'd been made aware of key phrases in the languages of the surrounding area, and wherever he was was close enough that it should have been included. Either way, the female didn't seem pleased about him being there, but she didn't come across as militant either. Soon they were on their way again.

After quite a bit more walking, the path emerged into an oceanside clearing. They walked past a number of huts and soon entered what Miguel recognized as a market, common across even primitive societies. Here a number of creatures like the one who had rescued him moved about, though it was less noisy than he might have suspected - the creatures speaking in deep, hushed tones. He looked around and noted that though their society appeared tribal, they were not really primitive - there were a number of products beyond food and weapons. The lizard stared curiously at some of the products, noticing the lack of metal but also realizing that somehow this didn't seem to hinder them. In particular, he noticed a tool shop and wondered how some of them could have enough strength to be usable. Another stall had benches that looked undersupported for the large reptiles that would be using them.

His rescuer interrupted his wonder as he reached a paw back and grabbed the lizard's, leading him through the action. They came upon a particularly decorated structure, which Miguel quickly decided was probably related to government or authority of some sort. Upon entering, he noticed paintings on the wall of reptiles that were decorated with many more markings than the one he was with, and the lizard suspected these were likely the 'village elders' or otherwise similar figures of authority.

The creature he was with spoke a bit with another creature in the entryway, and after a few moments, they were gestured deeper inside, where they met with a more decorated one. Their conversation seemed somewhat brief, but it wasn't of much interest to the lizard anyway, since he couldn't understand it. What he did appreciate was the chance to experience the demeanor and interaction between the two, as well as the chance to see the inside of what was clearly an important aspect of their society. He imagined that this building was likely one of the nicest and most extensive, and the objects around certainly supported that - carefully crafted and decorated furniture and various pieces of artwork abounded.

The two reptiles seemed to reach a friendly agreement, and Miguel was led to another part of the building. Here, they found body painters, and his thoughts about the paintings' significance were confirmed - though the lizard wondered whether the paintings on their scales were all business or if some might also be artistic. The reptile gestured for him to take a seat, and Miguel soon felt the cold touch of liquid as it was put carefully on his chest. Dye might be a more accurate term; he felt the thin fluid seep into his scales, and he realized that paint wouldn't have been practical for such aquatic creatures. The lizard guessed this would avoid encounters and questions like they'd had with the female earlier, and he hoped it was only a positive indicator - he was placing a lot of trust in these creatures not to use him as a sacrifice as in so many fictional adventures, though it wasn't as if he had much choice - hope for getting home or even surviving alone was slim.

Newly marked, Miguel admired the designs - noticing a few similarities to the larger reptile's, he suspected it might indicate whose guest he was. He smiled, feeling more accepted and a little less like an outsider. They exited, and the creature led Miguel back to the huts. They entered one, and the larger reptile set down his bow and picked up various sorts of fishing gear. Curiously, the lizard picked up and looked over the bow, noticing how light yet extremely strong it was. As his paw traced over it, he noticed the texture was smooth; it appeared to be coated in a liquid that hardened - and he guessed this was what gave it strength.

As he set the bow down and stood up, he felt the larger creature pull him into a hug. Combined with his new markings, it made him welcome here - and as if the creature was now a friend. Miguel smiled at the contact from the big male, but he also had to fight feelings of arousal. Liking other males had never really been accepted in his society, yet the lizard had come to terms with his preference for the company of other males - and his lack of sexual interest in feminine anthros. By contrast, the few gay males in his society who were open about it seemed to prefer the more lithe, younger males. For Miguel, though, the stronger, more masculine, and more menacing males were what he found attractive - and he was finding himself growing more and more attracted to the striking, attractive male that was his new friend. Yet, he resisted these thoughts, wanting - no, needing - not to alienate his one contact on this island.

Miguel followed the larger reptile out of the hut and through the jungle once again, back toward where he'd landed on the sand. They took a different route this time and went a little deeper in the jungle, and he saw some of the creatures out in the trees, working on them...doing...he couldn't tell what, but it looked like drilling into them. Near the path he saw some large wooden containers, and as he peered back, he saw that the workers in the trees had the same. When they reached them, he peered inside and saw an amber liquid. The lizard tentatively reached a claw toward it, and the larger reptile's paw quickly grabbed his wrist, holding it away.

The larger creature grabbed a leaf and gently touched it to the liquid. He pulled it away and held it for a moment, then turned the lizard's paw over and put it in on his palm. It was hard as a rock. The reptile let go of Miguel's paw, and Miguel squeezed at the leaf. He tried to break it, and found it was remarkably strong. Whatever was in these trees - some kind of resin - must be what gave their products such remarkable strength. If it could bind a leaf that well, he was certainly glad the reptile had saved his finger.

Soon they arrived by the seaside, and Miguel saw many other creatures already engaged in fishing. The larger reptile spread his arms and pointed to the lizard, then pointed at the other fishers and himself. The lizard interpreted that he could explore around this area while the larger male fished, and he began to walk around the beach. Before long, though, his nature led him back to the fishers, and he peered with fascination at their catch. Some he recognized, but a number of them were completely new. A few he could identify as similar to ones identified in other places...but a few were totally new to him. If only he had his sketchbook! Of course, maybe he could just take one or two with him when the time came.

After looking over their catch, Miguel dove in himself and began to explore. Here, he saw many new formations and habitats, and there were some unrecognizable fish here as well. Although he had no doubt the larger male could provide for him, Miguel thought it might not be bad to endear himself, or at least chip in. He was quite an experienced swimmer, and he'd worked with fish his whole life...it was a matter of moments before he was able to catch his first one. He brought it back to the fishers, swimming up to them with it in his teeth, and they seemed pleased. He took a note of what they seemed to prefer, and the lizard set out again, bringing back a few more. Satisfied that he was being less of a burden, he went back to exploring, heading back in when he heard them yell.

Back at the larger reptile's hut, a fire was made outside, and the two enjoyed the fish. A kind Miguel was unfamiliar with had an exquisite flavor. The two sat next to each other around the fire, happily munching as the sun set. They moved into the larger reptile's home, the lizard noticing the roof was a coated fabric - waterproof, he assumed - rolled back to let the dying light in. He noticed that the other male still slept in a traditional reptilian nest, and he had grabbed some material from the jungle for the lizard to make one as well. Miguel found it surprisingly comfortable when they were done, and he lay down on it.

What happened next was quite a surprise. Miguel felt the tail of the larger male on his ankle. At first he thought it was an accident, but it coiled slowly around it and squeezed gently. Maybe it was just their way of saying goodnight, he reasoned, trying to ignore what he hoped it was. He really had to wonder, though, at what happened after that - the larger reptile reached slowly down and slipped down his loincloth. Was he teasing him? It could all still just be bedtime ritual...but the way the large male worked his hips and he reached behind himself to unfasten it seemed a little too intentional...

Two things confirmed his suspicions. First, the bigger reptile's tail began to tease higher, tickling up his leg and teasing against his inner thigh. Next, while one paw discarded his loincloth, Miguel saw the other one remained behind him...and he could see in the dim light that one of its digits was worming underneath the large reptile, teasing against his taut tailhole. The lizard made an mmph sound gently at the feel of the tail against his scales as he let the larger reptile take the lead. Before long, the tip was against his groin, pressing insistently at the lump it found there, sliding around it as the lizard felt himself begin to harden.

Soon there was a noticeable pair of wet spots on the lizard's pants as his hemipenes everted - he was on of the few anthros to still have them - dripping with his slitfluid. The larger reptile's single rod was thickening also; he clearly enjoyed the teasing he was doing. Miguel felt the tail's tip start to tease around his waistband, trying to worm inside...trying to unlatch it...his body twitched happily as he was teased under its ministrations, but it wasn't having much success getting it loose. A moment later, he simply felt the strong tail wrap around him and try to pull him toward the larger reptile.

Miguel stood up and walked over to the larger male, laying down against his large body. He could feel the creature murr happily under him at the feeling of the two being close together. The larger reptile's paws traced around the lizard's body, and he pulled up on the shirt gently, helping Miguel slide out of it. The lizard saw him toss it aside, and then the larger male's paws were on his chest, tracing over his scales, exploring it gently. The moved around his back and rubbed it for a moment, but it must have been too tempting...only a few seconds passed before he felt them trace down toward his rump.

The dextrous claws slipped inside and rubbed at it gently, claws poking just a little bit. The paws slowly slid around the smaller male until they were in front, where they scratched gently at his sensitive underside, eliciting a moan. Soon Miguel felt his shorts being unfastened, and as soon as they were loose, a big scalie paw slid inside and grabbed his hardness. He gasped at the feelings given by the big male smiling above him, the paw sliding up and down his length a few times. Then, the lizard felt the large reptile lean his body way back and spread his legs, pulling gently but insistently at the pants, able to slide just a bit at a time. Needfully, Miguel reached up and helped, quickly pushing them off and exposing all of himself to the naked reptile whose body was below him - but who was now staring down at him..

He heard the rumbling grow louder as the large reptile placed his strong paw on his stomach and scratched at it affectionately. The larger scalie lifted the lizard off of his lap and laid him on the floor, leaning over his groin. Miguel moaned as he felt a gentle lick against one of his hemipenes, and soon a warm maw surrounded it. He wiggled underneath the muzzle of the bigger reptile, tail wagging in pleasure as he felt a thick tongue wrap around his hardness. It slid exquisitely around it, caressing it...oh...and those strong paws scratching gently at his underside...

Miguel felt copious saliva from the larger reptile as well, getting his rod wet and letting the tongue slide over it so nicely...and it all made sense a moment later when the large reptile stood up again. The lizard rawrled as the larger male bent over, picking up a small urn of clear fluid. Smiling, the reptile stayed bent over and raised his tail, giving Miguel the view he wanted. His claws traced back, dripping with the liquid; he pressed them into his tight pucker...the lizard felt his hemipenes throb and drip pre at the sensual scene in front of him. As if that wasn't enough, the big reptile gave a cute moan as he wriggled his fingers within himself...if he'd been pawing, Miguel might have cum right there. He saw the male turn his head and grin at the lizard. Then, he put his tail back down, walked over to his nest, and lay down.

The smaller scaly felt the powerful tail slide under his raised head, encouraging the lizard to stand up. As he did, it caringly slid around him and pulled him closer. The larger reptile smiled up at him as he spread his legs and moved his tail to the side, showing off the tailhole where his claws had just been. Miguel rawled, seeing a drop of the liquid at the very rim, and he slowly lay down against the other reptile. His smaller tail wrapped around the large one as he slid down just a bit, lining up one of his hemipenes right away after that show. He nuzzled forcefully against the big male as he felt him yield beneath him...both reptiles letting our large moans.

Miguels arms also encircled the large reptile as he was overcome with feeling...the tight warm grip beneath him everything he dreamed it would be. He pulled their bodies close, feeling the throbbing length of the larger reptile between them. Each thrust wormed him just a little deeper...brought them just a little closer...until he felt a sudden shot of pre hit his underside and heard a moan and he knew he'd hit the other male's magic spot. Just a few more thrusts hilted him inside, the large male licking gently at the smaller male now deep within.

Miguel knew he wouldn't last long...he hadn't touched himself since he started his journey, and it was his first time actually inside a male...and such a sexy one...so he thrust gently and slowly. With each movement, the tight insides of the other reptile caressed his tip. Their undersides were quickly becoming messy as the large male dripped pre, and the lizard's other hemipene joined it, a mix of their fluids making a slick mess between them. The smaller scaly felt the large one's arms wrap around him too as he nuzzled back, clearly appreciating the gentle pleasures the lizard was giving him...and each lustful moan showing him just how much his prostate was enjoying the feelings too.

Much as he hated to give up the feelings, Miguel knew trying to hold out would be nearly impossible...and it wasn't like this would be a one time thing...he hoped. The big reptile's moans made him nearly certain he'd be feeling the warm caress of his insides again soon. He didn't want to cum before the big male though and leave him unsatisfied - so Miguel reached a paw between them and grabbed and squeezed at the bigger male's head. He felt his powerful tail thrash beneath them, and with the pre that shot into his paw, he knew he was close too...he pulled faster...he pressed in deep, wiggling his own maleness against the larger male's prostate...

Seconds later, the big male gave a loud gasp and came, thick white fluid shooting from his tip and coating the other male's paw. The lizard's cock gave up his cum too, feeling the inner muscles of the larger reptile squeeze and milk at his rod as he orgasmed beneath the smaller scaly...both moaned and squeezed their paws around each other in passion...riding it out together until they lay dazed, gazing at each other in the afterglow...worn out and drifting to sleep in each other's arms.

Miguel awoke to a gentle licking on his face, and he cracked his eyes open, smiling into the face of his rescuer - and now lover. He wrapped his tail around the larger reptile and squeezed him close tiredly, returning the licks. The lizard smiled at the feeling of a particular sticky crust on their two underbellies, and turned his head to look at the larger male's genitals - trilling at the sexy sight of small white specks around the male's rim, a reminder of their coupling...and what he'd left inside the other male. He smiled up at the big reptile who was smiling at him, and Miguel gave him a gentle, short kiss. The bigger male went over to the corner and bent over, Miguel murring at him as he picked up a pail of water and a cloth.

The bigger reptile brought the cloth to the lizard and slowly, caringly began to work it over his scales, cleaning off the remnants of their passion. This answered his wonder about how they'd clean up without getting to the ocean, which would have required walking in public with their cum-flaked undersides. Miguel smiled and scratched affectionately at the larger male as he touched slowly and gently across the smaller male's body; he knew their lust was becoming intimacy. All too soon, with a short peck on his chest, the larger male was finished with his cleaning, and he handed the towel to the lizard.

Miguel returned the favor, but first he leaned over and did a long slow lick up the bigger reptile's underside, earning a sexy growl from him. The lizard wormed his tongue back in his own mouth, enjoying again the taste of the larger male's essence. Then, he too worked the cloth slowly over the scales of his partner, scratching gently with his claws to make sure none was left between scales. When he finished with the mess on his stomach, the lizard enjoyed quite a sexy moment, pulling the bigger reptile's legs apart gently and softly pressing and rubbing the cloth against his entrance. He mrwoled a bit, reminded all too clearly of their passion as he touched the large reptile in the most private, guarded place of his body, cleaning the mess he'd left there.

Miguel took a deep whiff of the cloth, enjoying their mixed scents, even if a bit diluted and aged. The larger reptile tossed the lizard a loincloth, and the lizard smiled, feeling even more welcomed into their culture. The way they'd slept in made Miguel suspect today was a day for relaxation in their society. Soon, he was following the larger male again - this time not as hesitant to sneak glances. The lizard was starting to feel like he knew his way around a bit better, though there were many areas he had yet to explore. Miguel found their exploration fascinating, seeing new creatures and getting a better feel for the reptiles' society. Later in the day, they travelled in one direction in particular that they hadn't been to - the side opposite where he'd woken on the sand. When they arrived, he was surprised to see another body of land in the distance, a long length of water stretching as far as he could see between the two masses. Then, it clicked.

This was the straits! The Tengann Straits! Miguel was elated to know where he was - his hopes rose about beginning to return home and to be able to share this new culture with others. Knowing his location was a leap forward, although it still left him stranded. It meant he was right in the middle of the dead zone - these straits were the site of the first sinkings and the center of the area that ships now avoided. Miguel knew the land around the straights had not been well explored for the same reason, so it made sense that their culture could thrive undiscovered here. How to make contact or get back to civilization was still a bit of a problem. He knew a bit about the area - they were on an island, and on the other side was a peninsula - though it might as well have been another island; the connecting land was known to be incredibly treacherous. He understood his situation much better now, however, which was very significant progress.

The afternoon passed in a happy, relaxed state. Miguel continued to walk the shoreline, getting a better feel for the area but not particularly in a rush - he was beginning to feel safe around the creatures and become familiar with the land. After all, why not enjoy himself a little while he was getting to know their society? He went for a swim, happily feeling the water across his scales and seeing quite a few of the reptiles around. His rescuer and he basked in the sun some, the pair of reptiles drying off their scales and warming up. It was easy to feel optimistic with the progress he'd made in the past couple of days and the welcome he felt from their culture.

Yawning in the sunlight, Miguel stood up and decided to continue walking. The larger reptile noticed and followed a bit behind, which would be an unfortunate mistake. Miguel approached a bit of a ridge, and he climbed up the side of it along a path no doubt made by the reptiles. As he neared the top, the larger reptile realized the situation and began to run after him. He shouted something meaningless just seconds too late as Miguel crested the ridge and looked down into the inlet below.

Miguel stood paralyzed. He was stunned, speechless, unsure what to think. Before him were the rotting husks of countless anthro vessels, and he knew they were the ones that had been lost in this area. The remains of the ships thought to have mysteriously disappeared were right in front of him, a morbid monument. Many had clear signs of damage - gaping holes and splintered wood. All those sailors who had perished...

Miguel put his head in his hands and cried.
