Legoshi sighed. The grey wolf had his trademark gloomy expression, his eyes blank as he got lost in his own thoughts. So lost, in fact, that he didn't even notice the red fox walking up to him while calling out a greeting.

"Hellooo?" The fox called out as he got closer to the wolf who was sitting by himself and eating his lunch. "Earth to Legoshi. Come in, Legoshi." When he still didn't get a response, he decided to have some fun and continue the analogy. He mimicked the walkie-talkie noise. "Cshhhh, this is command, we seem to have lost contact with the subject. Should we abort?"

It was at this point when Legoshi finally looked up and noticed he was being addressed. "Oh, sorry, Kana. I didn't notice. I suppose I was lost in my thoughts."

Kana, the fox, was a new transfer who had joined the stage crew for the school. He had quickly grown to enjoy the wolf's company and made it his mission to keep the gloom away from his new friend, a task that he found was more of a challenge than he had initially assumed. "That's no problem," the fox yipped as he sat down next to him and began to eat his own egg sandwich. "Must be one hell of a labyrinth in there for you to keep getting lost in it."

The wolf simply nodded. "It is."

"So," Kana said after he swallowed a bite, "what's got my dour wolf down this time."

Legoshi's lips twitched up for a moment at the nickname. When they had first met and Legoshi was showing Kana the ropes, the fox was impressed with just how tall Legoshi was. He had started calling him a dire wolf because of his size, but that quickly morphed to the teasing nickname of dour wolf due to how he always looked gloomy and sad. Legoshi wasn't a big fan of the name at first, but he grew to enjoy it. He couldn't deny how true it was, and the bluntness of the fox was almost charming in it's own way. He looked at Kana, considering whether or not to confide in his newest friend, but just shrugged.

"Aww," Kana whined, "don't give me the shrug. You know what's wrong; you're just not telling me." The fox took another bite as he waited for Legoshi to reply. When he didn't, Kana continued, "You know I'll get it out of you one way or another. So, are we gonna do this the easy way or the hard way" he followed the harmless threat up with a cheeky smirk.

Legoshi knew exactly how annoyingly persistent the fox could be. If Legoshi wouldn't tell him what was bothering him, Kana would ramble on about anything that entered his head because "if you're gonna avoid the topic, I have millions we could discuss." The wolf sighed and relented, deciding that discussing it would be marginally less painful than the yammering of the fox. "Alright, fine," Legoshi said, but paused as he tried to pull his thoughts together to form a coherent sentence.

"I'm waiting," the fox chimed cheerily.

"Give me a second," Legoshi grumbled. Kana tapped his claws on the table in a rhythmic manner as he waited for his wolf friend to spill it. "If I tell you this, you need to swear to me that won't tell a soul."

The doc's ears twitched and his tail wagged. There was nothing more that he loved more than a juicy secret to keep. "I am an excellent secret keeper," he said. "You have my word that I won't share this secret you have entrusted to me, Legoshi-sama."

Legoshi thought it strange of Kana to add sama to him, but figured it was just his weird sense of humor. "Alright," he said, "it's about a girl?"

Kana couldn't even wait for Legoshi to finish before his eyes widened and a giant smirk crossed his muzzle. " Has it finally happened?!" Kana asked excitedly. "Has the lone dour wolf, always alone and never sociable, finally found himself some tail?! Miracles truly exist!"

Legoshi growled lowly and nearly bared his fangs as the fox teased him almost loud enough for people around to hear. "Hey, shut up, wouldja!" The wolf hissed. When the fox continued, Legoshi smacked him on the back of his head hard, nearly making him drop his lunch.

"Oi, oi, oi!" Kana groaned as he rubbed his head. "No need to hit me so hard. I'm just excited for you is all." He smiled as he leaned in closer and whispered, "So, what's her name? No, better yet, what's her species? Is she a grey wolf like you, or are you looking for something different?"

"Give me a second," Legoshi said. He knew he couldn't tell him the name of the girl, but he considered whether he should reveal her species. It would only narrow down who it could be by a considerable amount, but wouldn't out who it was. The implications of knowing that it was a rabbit, though... he wasn't sure how it might go over. The idea of predators and prey having romantic relationships was not a popular one. Kana was different, though. Legoshi knew that Kana had had a few flings with prey animals before. In a very hushed tone Legoshi admitted, "Alright... she's a rabbit."

"My my," Kana teased, "you hoping that she'll eat your meat instead of the other way around?" Kana's voice dripped with enjoyment as he teased the bigger fox. Kana was a good foot shorter than Legoshi and knew he stood no chance in a fair fight, but he was comfortable enough with him to trust him with his life.

Legoshi held up his hands innocently and insisted defensively, "It's not like that! She came onto me!"

"Oh my," Kana said with a grin. His tail had started wagging as he saw the blush breaking through the wolf's fur. "So she does want your meat. How was she?"

"We didn't-" he caught himself from saying the crude form of the word and instead said, "we didn't do anything."

"Well, you said she came onto you," the fox reasoned as he leaned closer, "so what did happen?"

Legoshi paused as he gathered his thoughts, trying to figure out the best way to phrase things. "I was helping her with... something" he stopped himself from saying moving plants since she was the only member of the gardening club and it would reveal her identity. "Anyways, we were alone and... I think she wanted to thank me, maybe? I don't know why she'd assume that was the best way to thank me but..." Legoshi blushed as the memory played through his head.

"Well don't stop now," Kana urged. "It sounds like it's just getting good." His tail was wagging on the ground behind him.

Legoshi swallowed and took a breath before continuing. "She began... undressing in front of me. I was kinda stunned by surprise. She seemed confused when I didn't start undressing as well, so she... came over to help me. She got my shirt off and began... feeling me up, I suppose would be the best way to describe it."

When Legoshi didn't continue, Kana asked, "Then what happened?"

"I covered her with a blanket and left," he answered simply. He finished his sandwich and wiped his hands with a napkin.

Legoshi huffed and groused, "I'm not sure how I should take that."

"Well, it's not a bad thing," he said. "So, why'd you leave, anyways?" His eyes were trained on the wolf's face, carefully studying his expression. It was enough to make Legoshi a bit nervous and self-conscious.

"I- I dunno," Legoshi said. "She caught me by surprise. I hardly expected to have a rabbit of all species start coming on to me on campus of all places. I didn't wanna get caught."

"Mhm," the fox mused as he studied the wolf. A few moments of silence passed as the two stared at each other. "Are you gay?"

Legoshi nearly fell over from the sheer bluntness of the question. "Oh hardy-har-har," Legoshi said, "I turned down a girl, so I must be gay. Very funny."

"I'm serious," Kana said. With how much he jokes, teases, and kids around, he wasn't surprised that Legoshi thought that he was making fun of him. He was entirely serious at this moment, however.

"Well, you've never had a girlfriend, you never even seemed interested in talking to girls even when they initiate the conversation, and, like you said, you turned down a sure thing for sex with a girl," Kana counted out each thing with his fingers. "Thought maybe that you might be closeted, or just no openly broadcasting it. I know that the culture here is less accepting of that kind of thing. Legoshi couldn't deny his argument. He had even admitted that he'd never felt any attraction to anyone before. He began looking back at all his interactions with all his friends, trying to find something that might clear things up.

"Listen," Kana said softly, "only you know you best. It's clear that you have a lot to think about, so here." The fox handed him a scrap of paper with his address scrawled on it. "If you ever want to talk or anything, feel free to stop by. I'm happy to lend you an ear or whatever you need. No pressure." The fox finished his meal and stood up to stretch. "I'll see ya later sometime." With that, he left Legoshi alone with his thoughts.

Later that night, Legoshi was walking his way to the address on the paper. He had reversed directions several times as he kept changing his mind whether or not he should go through with it. "What the hell am I doing?" He asked himself. "I'm not gay. He just thought that because he didn't have all the information." He paused his steps, considering going back home.

A voice in the back of his mind told him to keep going, though. There was no harm in spending some time with Kana. He was a good friend and just offered to talk. Kana was probably expecting his arrival, and it would be rude to not show up after such a kind invitation. Legoshi continued walking until he arrived at the apartment building. He double and triple-checked the address just to make sure before heading up to the buzzer and pressed Kana's apartment number.

A few moments later, Kana's voice came from the machine. "Yeah?"

"Kana?" Legoshi asked. "It's Legoshi. I thought we could talk a bit?"

"Yeah, of course!" Kana sounded too excited to hear Legoshi, but he couldn't turn back now. The buzzer rang and he quickly opened the door and began heading up the stairs. He found Kana's apartment easily enough, but found himself having trouble knocking. He could feel his heart beating faster than normal and the excitement was making him nervous about what it might mean.

He didn't even get to knock before Kana opened the door with his kind smile on his muzzle. He was wearing just a tank top and shorts, a big change compared to the school uniform, which Legoshi was still in. "Gonna stand there all night? Come in, come in. I've made us some eggs and rice so we eat while we chat."

"Alright," Legoshi said, slowly walking in. He looked around Kana's apartment. It was modest with only a small living space and two other doors that Legoshi assumed lead to the bedroom and the bathroom. In the center of the room was a table with two sets of identical meals. Kana was already on his knees in front of his meal, so Legoshi quickly followed suit, sitting down at the table with his legs crossed. "Thank you for the meal."

"It's no trouble," Kana said with a smile as he picked up his chopsticks and started to eat. "Food always tastes better when shared with a close friend."

Legoshi nodded in agreement. He began to eat as well, keeping his mouth full to avoid actually talking. He had no idea what to actually say now that he was here. It was halfway through their meal when Kana broke the silence. "So, what brings my favorite wolf to my humble abode?"

Legoshi took his time in finishing his bite before finally answering, "I'm not entirely sure."

"I see," Kana said slowly. "Did you need to talk something out with a sympathetic and non-judgemental friend?"

"Maybe," Legoshi said. Kana waited patiently for Legoshi to continue. "So, about what you said earlier today. It really took me by surprise."

"If I overstepped with my observation, I sincerely apologize," Kana said with a genuine tone of regret.

"No need to apologize," Legoshi said. "It was an honest comment, and it was obviously not meant as a shot at me. It gave me a lot to think about, though."

Kana's ears twitched forward, focusing every part of his hearing on his wolf friend's muzzle. "I hope not too much," he replied jokingly, "it always seems like you have too much going on up there already."

Legoshi gave a light chuckle and responded, "Yeah, I suppose I do spend a lot of my time in my own head."

"Sometimes it can't be helped," Kana said. "These years are meant for learning, not just education, but also to learn about yourself. A lot of people end up leading unhappy lives because they didn't figure themselves out until it was too late. They now feel trapped in their own lives as a result." When Legoshi gave him a quizzical look, Kana explained, "I'm studying psychology and it was in a paper I was reading."

"Psychology, huh?" Legoshi said. "I didn't take you for that type."

"I know there's a bit of a stigma against people who seek therapy here, but that's just what makes it the best place to practice. There's a lot of people who need help here, and I'd love to be the one to help them."

"You've got a good heart, Kana," Legoshi said. "So, does that mean this is you trying to practice your therapy skills on me?"

"Well, I won't lie and say the thought never crossed my mind," Kana admitted, "but it had nothing to do with my initial offer. That was just cuz I wanted to help a friend." Kana smiled warmly at the wolf, who couldn't stop from smiling back, his tail wagging slowly behind him.

"I appreciate that," Legoshi said. "I probably could use someone to talk to."

"And what is it that you'd like to talk about?" Kana asked, already with his own accurate suspicion.

"Well," Legoshi started, taking his usual long time to answer as he put everything together in his head, "you already know how I've never really had any... urges for people." Kana nodded. "And now I have these confusing thoughts about this rabbit. I don't think they're sexual, but it's hard to tell when I've never had those kinds of feelings to compare it against."

"Would you mind trying to describe how you feel?" Kana asked. "I know trying to describe emotions is difficult, but try to give it a shot."

"Hmm," Legoshi considered the request. "It's like... anxiety. I feel nervous whenever I see her, I get all in my head about how to act around her, and she's been in my dreams."

"I do my best," Kana said. "I really like you and it's nice to have a friend in a place as... well, close-minded as this."

"It's not that close-minded," Legoshi defended casually.

"Well, maybe not, but compared to where I grew up, it is." He paused as he scarfed down more of his rice. "So, I'm starting to think that you aren't gay."

"You are?" Legoshi asked. He hadn't exactly thought he was, but he thought that it might explain a few things.

"Uh-uh," the fox said as he shook his head. "I think you're demi-sexual." Legoshi gave a confused look, prompting Kana to explain. "Well, your brain doesn't seek out mates in terms of gender or appearance. It seeks out those that it deems as compatible through emotional closeness. To put it simply, the closer you get to a friend, the more likely you are to find them romantically and sexually attractive. Considering how you've kept everyone at a distance, it's not surprising that you've never had any romantic relationships." Kana let Legoshi think on this for a minute before moving to sit next to Legoshi and adding with a cheeky tone, "If this is, in fact, the case, I'd probably be the most likely one for you to fall for since you've been opening up to me."

That got the wolf to blush again, deeper this time. "K-Kana!" Legoshi exclaimed. Honestly, Legoshi had been expecting Kana to try to hit on him when he took him up on the offer. It didn't seem to quiet the surprise of when it actually happened.

Kana placed a hand on Legoshi's. Legoshi could feel his heart beat faster at the suggestive touch. Kana smiled at Legoshi. "I'm not going to force you," Kana said softly. "Nothing has to happen. But if something does happen, you'll be in charge. You can tell me to stop at any time and I'll stop, no questions asked. "That's the spirit!" Kana said a little more excitedly than he intended. If he were to be honest with himself, his intentions weren't entirely selfless. He'd been interested in the wolf since the moment he'd been saved by him in that fight. "I'll hold you to that," Legoshi said in a joking tone.

"You can hold me as long as you want, dire wolf," Kana retorted as he gave the taller canine a warm embrace which was soon returned. Legoshi's nose was invaded by Kana's earthy musk.
