A ship's captain finds a way to calm a nervous passenger (Inspired by In All My Dreams I Drown)

In the Captain's Cabin

by Declan Xavier

Captain David Nelson watched from the deck as his crew labored. So far, the voyage had been blessed with good winds, though it had only been three days since they left port. The sounds of the males working – the grunting, straining, and hollering, accompanied by the creak of the ropes and the flap of the sails, was music to the wolf's ears, though there was something off about the rhythm. The ship was a well-greased machine, each person doing their job, but some of the pieces were running oddly. The captain's watchful eyes kept bouncing between them. Newer crew members still needed some oversight, and older crew tended to cut corners. A vigilant captain was a safeguard against tragedy.

The captain's attention bounced to the ship's doctor, Easton, as he came up from below decks. The otter had served with Nelson for nearly a decade, even agreeing to join the crew once the wolf made captain. Nelson knew from the way that he held his shoulders that something was amiss.

“Ho, Sawbones!” the captain shouted, drawing the otter's attention. The doctor nodded, heading up to speak with the captain.

“G'day Captain. How's the crew?”

“Something's amiss, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm hoping that we don't have something going around.”

The doctor rubbed his chin, looking thoughtfully at the sky. “No, I've spoken with some of the crew. What's happening isn't contagious. It appears that our 'guest' has been pacing below decks, unable to sleep, and that has kept some of the men up later than they would have liked. Some sleep deprivation, though I guess the guest male's own insomnia is affecting the crew. Hmmm...”

Nelson sighed. The 'guest' that the otter was referring to was the son of his friend and co-owner of the vessel. Leon, the male in question, had come running up the docks as they were making final preparations, asking the doctor for permission to come on board and sail to the new world. At the time, Nelson had thought it a little odd, but had made the allowance on the condition that Leon would do as he was instructed, for his own safety and the crew's.

Now it seemed that his guest was becoming more of a liability than he was worth. “Any idea what ails Leon?”

Dr. Easton shook his head, adjusting his glasses.”It just seems he hasn't gotten his sea legs. I've given him a calmative and put him in your quarters to isolate him from the night crew so that they could at least get some sleep.”

Captain Nelson nodded once, firmly. “Thank you, Sawbones. I'll go have a talk with him. Dooley, you have the wheel!”

The captain's first mate gave a whistle of acknowledgment as the wolf headed through the same hatch that the otter had emerged from. A few cabin boys, overseen by the stewards, moved through the cabins. Most of the officers worked during the day and it was the only time that they could go about tidying up, making any necessary repairs and the like.

His own cabin door was closed, his steward must have left to give the doctor and Leon their privacy. Captain Nelson didn't even bother knocking, it was his own cabin after all.

Leon looked up as the Nelson entered the cabin. He was sitting on the edge of the captain's bed, holding the back of his head with his elbows on his knees. He seemed for all the world like a male whose stomach roiled with the waves, and was about to return his rations to the ocean. When Captain Nelson looked at him, he saw not only weariness – heavy eyes shot with red and slumped shoulders, but a fear. As the corners of his muzzle turned downward, Nelson closed the cabin door and walked towards his desk and chair.

It wasn't the ideal seat to be speaking with the guest, what with the large desk between them, but there were few other options. Settling in, Nelson folded his hands in front of his nose and looked at Leon thoughtfully.

“The doctor tells me you've not been sleeping,” he said simply. The guest male licked his lips, opened his mouth as if to speak, but then only nodded. Nelson returned the nod, rising from his chair and opening the door that led onto the small balcony outside his windows. “If you're going to puke, please do it into the water.”

The guest nodded again, returning his head to its umbrella under his fingers.

“It's odd that the son of the owner of a large shipping company would volunteer to take this journey if he didn't like water that much. Considering how desperate you were to get on-board, that gives me some concerns.”

“Concerns?” Leon asked, straightening his back. In that simple movement, Nelson could see a lot of his father in the panther. Not just in the yellow eyes, which he had gotten instead of his mother's green, but in the way his ear flicked when he was rising to meet a challenge, the way that his elbow rested on one knee, his palm on the other, making a square with his upper body as he spoke.

The captain removed his hat and setting it on the table. “I am concerned that I may be accidentally harboring a criminal.” The wolf rose to his feet, stepping around the table to loom over the guest. And loom he could – Captain Nelson cut an impressive figure. At nearly six-and-a-half feet tall, he was easily the tallest person that Leon had ever seen. His uniform fit snugly over his form; the ship's tailor being a very skilled fox, and while he wasn't obese like Leon's father's friends back on land, he was simply large.

Leon shook his head and his hands as the captain approached. “No, no, it's nothing like that, honestly. I'm no criminal.”

“Then explain, because right now you are a nuisance to my crew and a point of worry for me, and neither of those things are virtues.”

The panther swallowed, unable to speak, only stammer as he looked up into the captain's hard, blue eyes. The wolf's hand clenched into a fist. The feline was hiding something, clearly, and the captain's stomach twisted at the thought of being taken advantage of.

“Please, I had, I had to get away. I had to get away from home, and from father, and...”

“Good. Men. Don't. Run.”

Something broke in Leon. Behind the panther's face, something snapped and caused his face to dip, the corners of his eyes to fall. Whatever dam held tears from his face had been breached, and now water was welling up in the pools of gold.

“They do when they're running from temptation,” Leon whispered, the loudest his constricted throat would allow, his nose turning floor-wards.

Nelson's fist relaxed, his expression softened. Watching the younger feline break like that took him back years. He hadn't seen his friend's son grow to adulthood, only met new versions of him every time that Nelson found his way home, and the feline sitting on his bed seemed more like a scared child than an ambitious adult.

The hand that had just been a fist now rested on the panther's shoulder. “Does your father even know you're here?”

Leon nodded. “Yes, I left a letter for him, and I instructed his valet to make sure he received it. That was as I was leaving, so that he couldn't stop me.”

It wasn't the best answer, but there was little Nelson could do. Turning the ship around would mean at least three days back to port just to start all over again. Perhaps at the next port, he would drop the panther off so that he could get a boat back home before he was missed too dearly.

“What on Earth were you running from? What temptation do you think you'll avoid in the new world?”

The panther took a deep, shuddering breath. That intake pushed the water from his eyes, tears starting to roll down and disappear against that black muzzle. “His name is Douglas. He's one of father's clerks. I-I started to...feel things for him. I knew that if I stayed in father's house, and he stayed in father's employ, that soon I wouldn't be able to hold back my feelings. Soon, I would embarrass father, so...I ran.”

The distant sound of males working the ship and the dull roar of the waves against the ship's hull was the only thing that kept silence from falling between them. The captain could feel his passenger trembling underneath his hand. It was a big thing to admit. There were many narrow-minded people in the world, and he just laid himself at the mercy of the ship's captain.

Nelson smiled softly. “You know, running onto a ship full of males is hardly going to be your haven from temptation. I should know.”

Leon pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, dabbing the tears from his eyes. “So father was right. He had made some passing comments that you might be a...a-uh...”

“Homosexual,” Nelson said. “Though I doubt that's the word he used.”

Leon nodded, bundling the handkerchief in his hands. “No, it's not, but...that's part of the reason I had to get away. Also, I didn't think it would be all males. I had only ever felt this way about Douglas. But...you're right, being here hasn't helped. I haven't been able to sleep for fear of the others finding out, of them catching a glance or... I...”

Nelson nodded, letting go of the panther's shoulder. “Yes. You came looking for relief, and I am sorry, Leon. All you will find here is a Hell of your own making.” The wolf's voice was heavy, and somber. “If the crew is proving too much of a temptation for you, you can remain in here until we reach our next port.”

Leon's grip tightened on the handkerchief, and he swallowed again as his blood-shot eyes went a little wider. Nelson's brow bent at the reaction to the suggestion. He had just been trying to scare Leon into giving him information, but he shouldn't still be afraid after the revelations...unless.

“It's not the crew that's tempting you...” Nelson whispered. Leon's eyes fell towards the floor, and a small affirmative shake of his head was all the response he could muster.

Twisting the cloth in his hands, the panther let out a shivering sigh, sniffling and dabbing his face again. “Growing up, you were some kind of mythical figure. Father spoke highly of you, and then you'd appear. Dinners at our house, parties with associates. Rooms felt like they were lit differently when you were around. Douglas wasn't my first temptation, but you were around so infrequently that it didn't affect me as badly. I kept it to myself, and then father...he was drunk one night, and he called you...he let your proclivities be known. Suddenly, you took on this whole new form in my mind. I knew I could trust you, I wanted to trust you, and so I ran from one temptation straight into another.”

Before he could stop himself, Nelson had thrown his arms around Leon's shoulders, bringing him in and hugging him tightly to his chest. He had known some of the same temptations, the same fear during his own naval career. Nelson wouldn't have wished it on anyone. In his arms, the panther trembled, and the captain felt the younger male's arms slowly wrap around his own torso.

They held one another there for a few seconds, Nelson waiting until the trembling had died down and the arms squeezed him with more confidence before releasing his guest. The feline's cheeks were damp, as was the shoulder of the wolf's coat, even though he didn't know it. Gray-furred fingers reached up, brushing away the droplets that could be seen.

“I'm sorry,” Leon apologized, sniffling and blowing his nose into the cloth. “It feels much better now, to have it out.”

“Maybe the doctor's medicine is having an effect. You should sleep,” Nelson said, starting to turn away only to stop when he felt another tug on his sleeve. Looking into the reddened eyes of his guest, the fear was gone, and the weariness was present but was just an undercurrent. There was a fire there now, a confident purpose.

“I won't be able to sleep,” Leon whispered. “I'm all tight inside, like a watch that's been wound too much. I thought admitting everything would help, and it did, but not enough, this feeling hasn't left me.”

Nelson's ears flattened against his skull. The poor feline had been stewing in his own skin. He could see the tension in the way that he wrung the cloth, the slight nibbling of his bottom lip. He had seen that look on the guest's father, whenever he had looked at the female who was Leon's mother.

“Tell me, Leon,” Nelson said gently. “Have you ever bedded someone before?”

Leon shook his head vigorously. “No! No. None of the city girls were appealing and...father kept me too busy. I was good, I swear.”

Nelson nodded, gravely, before pulling his sleeve free of the panther's grasp. Lighting a bedside lantern, the captain crossed his cabin to secure the door he had opened earlier leading to the balcony. He then drew the curtains tight, casting them into darkness save but the dim light of the single lamp. Finally, he went, wrenching open his cabin door.

“I am not to be disturbed lest we are sinking!”

“Hoy, captain,” came a chorus of acknowledgments from the crew, and the captain shut and bolted the door behind him.

Finally safe in the knowledge that they would be alone, the captain removed his coat, tossing it to lay atop one of the built-in chest of drawers. He didn't watch Leon as he started to unbutton his blouse, thankful that he had foregone wearing his cravat today. One had to always to look the part at the top of the leadership, but once they were out of port, Nelson hated dressing more formally than what was required.

Peeling his shirt from his body, his arms reached behind him to start to undo his brace. Serving on a ship, working hard for a leaving left one with a certain physique, but upon that foundation the years had decided to lay a thin layer of bulk that the lupine's vanity would not allow him to show. His fingers fumbled with the lacing, and he cursed his steward's attention to detail. He only stopped when he felt warm hands cup his own.

“Let me help,” Leon's voice was a soft but husky whisper. Nelson removed his hands, feeling the brace loosening around his midsection. It had been awhile since he had been undressed by another male, and almost never aboard his own ship. It was not his personal floating harem.

The brace fell away, the captain catching it before it clattered to the ground. Turning to face Leon, he smiled bashfully. To hear about how Leon had idolized him, and to reveal to him now a body that may have done twenty years ago, it was a gulf in his own mind. The panther didn't seem to mind, whether due to the low light or the fact that his idol was quietly disrobing in front of him. Leon's hands moved up, pressing against the older male's pecs, as if to confirm with his fingers what his eyes saw.

The wolf's heart beat quicker under the palms of the panther, his body moving of its own accord as he pressed his lips against the snout of the black feline. There was a softness, a temerity to Leon's kiss that Nelson felt and could not help but overpower. His experience in this arena eclipsed Leon's easily, and his lips pressed firmly.

Breaking the embrace, the captain stepped back. “You've never been with a male before. You've never been with anyone before.” His hands found their way to Leon's shoulders, holding the panther steady. “It's going to be weird, and awkward. Everyone's first time is. I'll guide you, but if nothing happens, don't feel bad.”

Leon nodded, the timidness moving from his lips into his eyes, which had lost a lot of their redness from the crying but none of their fire from the embrace. The nod was too quick, too sure, Nelson knew that Leon didn't get it, but at this point, there was little choice.

The captain started to work his belt loose, kicking his boots off against the dresser with a pair of dull thunks. His ears swiveled a bit as he heard Leon moving about, but his focus was on himself, and the act ahead of them. His breath came a little quicker at the thought of having a lithe, guest panther to bed, even if it wasn't going to be the greatest thrill of his life. Finally able to work his breeches down to his ankles, the captain finally stood only in his breach cloth in front of Leon. Looking up, he saw that the panther had made short work of his own garments.

In his haste, Leon had forgotten to undo his shoes, and was hopping on one foot, trying to unbunch one of his trouser legs from his own shoe. Unable to keep himself from laughing at the slightly comical scene, Nelson stepped forward, steadying Leon by the shoulders. “Go sit on the bed before you fall and crack your head open. I don't want Sawbones coming in here to find you half naked on the floor and bleeding.”

Leon limped in his quarter-undressed state over to the bed, sitting down and looking like a bucket of cold water had been thrown on him. With more grace and dignity, he removed his shoes and then slid his pants free of his legs. Nelson wanted to appreciate the form of his partner, but in the dim light, the panther's black fur nearly melted into the shadows, save for one prominent exception.

Standing out pink against the flickering light, the source of Leon's frustration was on full display. Between his legs, the panther's erection was ramrod stiff at an angle from his hips, pointing to what Nelson presumed was a swollen sheath and the rest of his equipment. So transfixed was he by the panther's spire that he didn't even notice when Leon's shirt was stripped off, leaving only the pink beacon to guide him like a lighthouse to safe shores.

Stepping into the lantern's light, the captain undid the final knot that served as a barrier between himself and decency. The cloth fluttered to the ground between his feet, revealing to the virginal panther a thick, gray sheath that was starting to give up its own red prize. To have the energy of youth, Nelson thought as he reached out into the darkness, his hands encountering soft, plush fur with slightly harder muscle underneath.

In the dim light, his hands explored the panther's body, charting a course carefully around his chest and to his nipples. As the wolf's thumbs grazed the sensitive nubs of flesh, he heard Leon give off a sharp gasp of pleasure. Nelson would have asked if he liked his nipples being played with, but figured that the feline didn't know himself. Instead, silently, he continued moving his hands downward. His partner's body was soft, supple, the kind of body that time had not yet ruined but hard graft had yet to discover.

The other senses, the smell of Leon's arousal, the gentle whimper of pleasured moans turning into deeper, more sensual sounds, signaled to Nelson that the younger male was ready.

“You're too nervous, too wound up. If you try to take me, I'll end up hurting you. You're going to lie down, on your back, and I'm going to take you.”

If there were protests, Leon could not voice them among the trembling whimpers and soft purring. The shadow of the feline's form crept over the captain's linens, green eyes catching and reflecting the low light as he did as he was ordered by the commander of the ship. The captain, meanwhile, had retrieved a small bottle of oil from one of his drawers. It wasn't lantern oil, but it was a clean, rose-scented tincture, one that he planned on using liberally at the ports.

Returning to the bed, the wolf poured some oil into his palm, rubbing his hands together to warm the oil before reaching out and taking hold of the panther's pink shaft. His hands were no longer the rough, calloused things of a workman, but nor were they the pliable digits of the privileged. Slowly moving up and down the shaft, he could feel the twitching and throbbing, the near ache with need of the panther. He could hear it in the pleasured moans and soft gasps whenever his fingers grazed the barbs that lined the tip.

This was going to be a short ride, the captain knew as he released Leon's cock from his grip. Clambering up onto the cot made to hold one, the wolf positioned himself with his knees on either side of Leon's chest, his calves running parallel with the panther's hips. There, in what little light the lantern had to offer, the wolf lifted his tail and reached back with his oiled up fingers. He had bottomed before, but not in a while, since being captain of the ship endowed one with a certain air. There were occasional bouts with submissiveness, but those were fewer and farther between these days.

His fingers quickly found their destination, pressing against the lupine's pucker. Nelson grunted as he twisted, his fingers rubbing the oil around the ring before sinking in up to the first knuckle. The wolf's shaft pushed out of its sheath at the feeling of penetration, bouncing a little as the lupine flexed his back and hips trying to work the second finger in, spreading himself for his partner.

The preparations performed, the wolf removed his fingers and reached below him, grabbing and angling Leon's dick as best he could in the dark. The shaft was still iron-hard in his grip as he lined the barbed tip against his greasy entrance. Closing his eyes, the captain tried to feel for something that he had learned to ignore in his years at sea: the roll of the ship. It had become second nature to him, and now he needed to feel it again.

Finding the roll of the beam, the wolf slowly eased himself down until the barbs were scrapping against his ring. Under him, Leon writhed a little, his hips bucking forward on pure instinct to push his cock deep into a hole that wanted it. Nelson gasped at the sudden push, fingers flexing to grip the shaft hard as the barbed head sank into him. The grip stopped the advance from going any further, but also caused Leon to yelp in surprise and perhaps a little pain.

“Sorry, sorry.” Nelson said, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly to get used to the feeling of being penetrated. The barbs gave him a pleasant tingle in his nethers, and soon his red, tapered pecker was as hard as the one under his tail. Moving his hands to rub at Leon's chest, Nelson slowly lowered himself down in time with the roll of the ship.

The panther's dick felt bigger than it looked, bigger than it felt in Nelson's hand as it stretched his tunnel. The wolf's hands ran down the black-furred torso as he sank lower. He could feel the sharp rise and fall of Leon's chest, each breath coming out as a lust-filled moan or gasp of pleasure as the captain's passage gripped and tugged against his sensitive, virgin flesh.

Nelson let out a hitched cry of pleasure as he felt the barbed head struck the sensitive bundle in his backside, his thick, lupine member starting to drip its nectar onto Leon's chest. If the younger male noticed, he neither commented nor cared, his own eyes closed and his soft moans of pleasure unceasing. The wolf started to rise again, until he felt the barbs touch his ring, and then lowered himself once more.

It was slow, as despite the needy arching of the panther's back, it was smooth. Finding a rhythm, Nelson's eyes opened once more, watching his partner's face and chest for any signs of distress or discomfort. The feline's face, however, was the picture of pleasure, little yowls of lust peppering the air as the captain rode. Pink, sensitive flesh disappeared into the captain's ass as Nelson took Leon's virginity.

Unfortunately, the captain's predictions had proven correct, and the ride was short-lived. It wasn't long before Leon's moans were silenced by a bitten lip, and Nelson felt the hot flower of the feline's orgasm within him. The wolf let out a growl of pleasure as he felt himself be claimed in a manner while also doing some of the claiming. With a grunt, the wolf let his thighs relax completely, pushing the remainder of the panther's rod into his tailhole, squelching through the spilled seed until his hips were grinding against Leon's lap.

Desperate for his own release, Nelson's hand gripped his thick crimson cock, stroking with more intensity than perhaps he had originally intended. The last remains of the lube mingled with his precum, polishing his member to a glistening shine in the lantern light. There was virtually no time to enjoy it though, as soon he felt his own climax building behind his knot.

With a final snarl of orgasmic pleasure, the captain found release. His cock throbbed and twitched, sending out a few ropes of hot, sticky lupine cum to splash into the black fur of his partner's chest. Leon's nose twitched as the smell of Nelson's semen permeated the cabin, a different kind of salt on the air than the seas which surrounded them.

Losing himself in the passion of the moment, Nelson leaned down and, still penetrated on his partner's cock, kissed Leon. This time, it was not the strong, guiding kiss of a more experienced male, but another point of connection between the two. It was strong still, but also tender, caring, concerned. The lips back against his were grateful and accepting.

After breaking the embrace, Nelson pushed up and off the panther's flagging erection, feeling it scrape and slip out of his backside until it finally came free with a final tug, causing the wolf to grunt as he felt his partner's seed start to drip from him and onto the panther's thighs and the linens below. Retrieving his breach cloth from the floor, Nelson stumbled to the basin that still had water in it from the morning's rinse.

Soaking one end of the cloth in water, Captain Nelson started to clean himself of his lover's spilled seed, knowing that he wasn't getting it all, but only needing enough cleaned to be able to hold himself comfortably. His bowels still felt scraped and spread, walking would be a challenge even though he had rougher lovers, more brutal experiences.

Rinsing the cloth, he approached the bed. “Leon, are you OK?”

The panther didn't respond, at least not verbally. From the black figure on the bed came a soft, almost imperceptible snore. A smile graced Captain Nelson's muzzle. Most would find it infuriating that their lovers fell asleep so quickly after the act, but that was the goal. Leaning down, Nelson gently kissed Leon's forehead before hobbling to the door and unbolting it.

“Steward! Run me a bath, and we need new linens. Our guest of honor's made a real mess of it.”

“Aye sir,” came the reply.

“Oh,” Nelson added before closing the door. “Mind you don't wake him.”
