Reptilian Trinity Chapter 2
#3 of Reptilian Trinity
The armadilo princess, the raptor duo, and the flirty avian
Two days later and Crystal couldn't stop thinking about what her parents told her. That Uvaris had invaded Candis without provocation and while Candis' Queen focused on keeping her country from collapsing, her father would be meeting with the Dragis King and the Outland King to discuss what they planned to do about Uvaris' sudden invasion. She wasn't certain anything would come from it since Dragis's King had grown apathetic and depressed from what she had heard and Outland's King had pretty much closed the borders and was apparently dealing with rebels looking to tear down the crown. It was honestly looking like Kalmarsh would be the only one to aid Candis. She of course didn't mention any of it to her father though she did speak with Kasey about it yesterday. "That may be so but either way you shouldn't worry too much about it." He had said to her. She found herself wondering about what Onyx thought of the situation, though he had yet to stop by and see her again. She then came up with the idea to slip out into town and find him, she's gotten a pretty good idea what Scarlett City was like since she had met him and felt confident that she could make do on her own long enough to find him. Changing out of her dress, she pulled on a pair of simple olive shorts, a red shirt, sandals and a sky blue bandana tied around her neck. After making sure that her tiara was off as well as anything else that could implicate her true status, she walked over to the window, climbed over the edge to hang from the sill and then dropped down onto the grass. After about fifteen minutes, Crystal had made into the city and was searching for her hooded mercenary friend. No luck whatsoever and the claustrophobic crowds was starting to get to her, leading her to duck into a nearby alley to escape and immediately run into to very undesirable individuals. She stopped in her tracks and quickly wished she had stayed amongst the crowd as she saw the very unsettling look in their eyes once they saw her. Before she could attempt to flee back to the main street, a male triceratops rushed forward and grabbed be left wrist. To her horror, it was the same triceratops that was hitting on her two days ago when she was with Onyx in Bare Backstreet. "Well, well. If it isn't that cute 'dillo from the other day. Looks like yer brother ain't here to get in our way this time. Perhaps you could even show my buddies here a good time after I finish with ya." "No." Crystal tried to pull her hand free but his grip was ironclad. "Let me go!" "Shout all you want lass. No one is going to help you." The triceratops started to pull her deeper into the alley and Crystal kept pulling, resisting and she made one last desperate call for help. "Someone help me!" Tired of her resistance, the triceratops stopped, turned and backhanded her. "Keep yer mouth shut ya dumb bitch. The only place that woman like you belongs is in the kitchen or on your knees." Crystal was scared that she was about to have her life destroyed all because she thought she'd fine on her own. "Hey!" a female voice shouted. "The fuck do you want?!" In the moment he ended up letting go of Crystal's wrist. She quickly scrambled away from him and toward the female that had arrived, believing that they truly were there to help her. "For you to piss off and leave this girl alone." Crystal managed to get to her feet, her body trembling in fear. "And why should we listen to what some filthy raptor says?" One of the triceratops' buddies asked. Crystal immediately looked at her rescuer and saw that she was indeed a raptor: just slightly taller than her, peach and tan colored scales and fur, red and orange colored plumage on her head that was combed over to the left side, fierce red-orange eyes and a long thick tail with a tuft of red on the end. Dressed in a plain yellow shirt that exposed her stomach, light brown pants, light grey pants, dark blue fingerless gloves, a rapier strapped to her left hip and a strange pair of boots that left the claws on her feet exposed. ('I can't believe I'm meeting my first raptor and she's willing to help me, a complete stranger.') "Cause this raptor knows how to fight, isn't afraid of scumbags like you, and didn't come alone." As if on cue, the sound of drawing steel sounded in the alley behind the triceratops and his group. "The two of us are also pretty capable with magic. So, what'll it be?" a male voice asked. "Fuck this, I've had enough of being cockblocked. Let's get out of here." Crystal watched as the headed deeper into the alley, filing around a green scaled raptor with two blue colored stripes on both sides of his head, wrapping around his eyes before going down his cheeks and ending at his lower jaw. Dressed in black pants, dark blue shirt, black and dark blue jacket, fingerless gloves colored red, and similar boots to the female raptor. She watched him sheath his sword and come their way. "Glad they chose to leave, but I still wouldn't have minded cutting them down." The male remarked. "Same here but it no doubt would have spilled out into the street and we don't know if any of them know any combat magic and I wouldn't want any passerbys to get caught in the crossfire." "Yeah and we'd probably get blamed for it and either leave town as soon as possible or accept whatever we get sentenced to." "Um, who are you guys?" Crystal interjected, prompting the raptors to look at her. "Sorry. I'm Genesis and this is Vergence." "We both heard you calling for help and make a quick plan on how to help you." "Thank you, both of you. I'm really thankful you showed up when you did. Ugh I'm such an idiot! Why did I think it would be a good idea to leave the castle alone?!" "Castle? So you're actually royalty then?" Vergence questioned. It hit Crystal that she had let that slip and quickly tried to cover it up. "Uhhh, no! No I'm not, I just call our house a castle sometimes as a joke! In reality I'm-." "Look it's fine if you actually are. Truth is I'm a noble so I can understand wanting to experience things like other people do." Genesis interjected. "Really? I didn't realize that there were raptor nobles." "You'd probably see them more in Outland. My family's the only one to my knowledge." ('Weird. I wonder if Onyx knows that there's another raptor noble besides the one he grew up with.') "Anyway, let's get out of this alley and head elsewhere." Vergence offered. "Okay." Crystal followed the two raptors out to the main street, fairly confident that she could keep up. It In fact she noticed that most of the people in the crowd were giving the three of them a wide berth, apperently not wanting to get too close to the raptors walking the street. "If you guys don't mind, can I ask where you grew up?" "Port town called Coastal City." Vergence replied. "Really? Someone named their port town Coastal City?" "Kinda on the nose, I agree." Genesis remarked. "What about your families?" "As I already mentioned I'm a noble. Of the Kaiber family to be specific." "You're a Kaiber?! My father has so many good things to say about your family." "I imagine he especially has some good things to say about my father, right?" "Lord Kane right? My father does and he really respects him. When he talks about dragons, he always says that they should be more like Lord Kane." Vergence let out a snort of annoyance. "What?" "Figures a high class asshole would use him as an example of how an entire species should act." "Excuse me?!" "Don't take it personally Crystal. Verge and another friend of ours have kinda butt heads with my dad in the past. He hasn't really approved of either of them." "Oh? What was your other friend like?" "A male dragon named Dusk. He was quiet, shy and mostly kept to himself but once he warmed up to me and Verge, we got to see a more warm and friendly side that no one else did. Not even Coby saw it all that much." "Who's Coby?" "Dusk's step-brother. They got along for a couple years before they ended up having a falling out." Vergence explained. "A falling out?" "Not up for discussion." He curtly stated. "Is it that personal?" "It is. It had a really bad affect on Dusk and he had really tried to keep it from spreading around town but..." "But it spread despite our attempts to do so. He ultimately decided to take off three years ago and we haven't heard from him since." "Really? He hasn't sent you guys any letters telling you how he was doing?" "Nope. Not that it'd matter since we'd leave Coastal City a year after him." "So now all you can really do is travel across Kalmarsh and hope that you get lucky enough to-." Crystal was interrupted by a tall individual bumped into her and shove something into her hand. She looked at them and recognized the cloaked figure as Oynx. Before she could say anything to him, he whispered to her: "Take these. For you and them." And he quickly disappeared into the crowd without another word. "Who was that?" Vergence asked. "A friend that I had met recently." Crystal replied before turning her attention to the three pieces of paper in her hand. She pocketed two for now and looked at the single slip and couldn't help but stop her brow from furrowing. "What is it Crystal?" Genesis asked. "A note." "What's it say?" Vergence asked. "No, there's an actual note written here." She tilted it for the two raptors to see. "A musical note." Gen remarked. "Anything on the back?" Crystal flipped over to reveal: "A D?" "So he gave you both a note and a letter, looks like your friend has quite the sense of humor." Vergence remarked. Crystal looked at Genesis who seemed contemplative. "What is it?" "I feel like I've seen someone use that joke before." "You have? Who ?" "Hmm." "Gen?" "Nevermind. What about those other two letters? He handed you?" Crystal pulled the two out and pocketed the joke sheet. Both were folded and labeled with addresses; one to Crystal and the other to Vergence and Genesis. "For us? How would he know to pass this to us?" "I don't know Verge. The only thing I can think of is that Dusk found out somehow that we left home and hired someone to find us and deliver it." "Which means he trying to reach out to you guys and let you know how he's doing." Crystal remarked. "How about you read yours first." Vergence suggested. "Okay." She handed Vergence the one addressed to him and Genesis and unfolded hers. "Dear Crystal. I meant to see you yesterday but something came up and I had to address it. Word about Uvaris invading Candis is spreading like wildfire through town. I have some matters to attend to so I won't be seeing you for awhile. Don't worry though. I will let you know before when I'm leaving so we can say ours goodbyes. Take care of yourself Crystal and I trust your new raptor friends to keep an eye on you. Sincerely, Onyx. Crystal noticed though that his remark about Vergence and Genesis was written not as neatly as the rest, suggesting that it was added the last minute. But how could he have known that the two were trustworthy? She had just met them but if he had been watching them then he had probably seen them conversing with each other and noticed that she did feel comfortable around them. She refolded the letter and tucked it away. It did kinda disappoint her that Onyx wouldn't be around but he had promised to come see her before he left. "What your letter say?" Vergence unfolded it and started to read it aloud. "To my friends, Vergence and Genesis. First off I want to apologise to you both for leaving without telling either of you but between dealing with Coby and the two of you dealing with Kane learning that the two of you were still together and some other things that I'll not put down on paper, it never seemed like the right time to mention it. I know the two of you probably would have wanted to come with me and while I would have liked to have you both along, I think I needed time spent alone to figure things out. That said I still miss you both and would like to see you both again and travel with you guys, especially now that you've both left home. Gen, I don't know if you've noticed but your father put a bounty on your guy's heads. He wants you back home. I've been tearing down as much as possible but it's still a lot for one person. Both of you just be careful and don't be afraid to turn tail and run if any hired goons become too much for you. Stay safe and stay strong you two, I hope to see you again. Signed, your dear friend Dusk." A couple minutes passed and Crystal could tell that the raptors were still trying to process the emotional letter that had been sent to them. "I hope he's alright." Vergence mumbled. The male raptor folded the letter and tucked it into his pocket. "So Crystal. Anywhere you want to visit in particular?" "Well, not exactly but if you guys would like to wander with me I'd appreciate it." "Sure. Besides it would be best that you are left wandering the streets alone." Genesis remarked. For the rest of the day Crystal roamed the streets with Vergence and Genesis, talking about several things that came to mind. "So the two of you are in a romantic relationship?" "Yup and my dad wasn't too happy about it. As I mentioned before, he didn't really like Verge all that much and us dating didn't make it any better." "What also didn't help Gen was the fact that he and your mom-." "Vergence, shut it!" Genesis interrupted. "But-." "No buts. We are NOT talking about that." Crystal honestly wanted to press the two for an answer but given how against talking about it Genesis was, she figured it was better to let it go. "Hello what have we here?" A somewhat flirty sounding male voice asked. Crystal turned to see a blue feathered avian with dark blue eyes, black scaled forearms and dressed in light grayish blue shorts, black shoes and a lose fitting white shirt, with a lance slung over his shoulder. "Coby?! What are you doing here?!" Genesis questioned. "Leaving home and seeing what Kalmarsh had to offer. Just like the two of you and Dusk." He replied. Crystal wasn't sure what to make of Coby now that she was seeing him in person. It was rather obvious that he was a very flirtatious guy as she noticed that even as he talked to Vergence and Genesis, he never stopped swaying his hips and plump round rear. "So how long have you been traveling?" Vergence asked. "About six months. Haven't seen Dusk yet though." "Which is a good thing." Genesis remarked. "Come on Gen. You seriously think he's still mad at me?" "I don't think he still is, I know for a fact he is. After what you pulled Coby, you should consider yourself lucky to have not encountered him as he quite possibly would have froze you solid." Crystal immediately noticed the underlying anger in Genesis' voice. ('What was it he did that made her so infuriated with him? And so certain that Dusk still wouldn't have forgiven him?') "Genesis, it wasn't even that-." "Finish that and I'll break your damn beak." Vergence cut in. "Vergence, I-." "Shut it. You don't get to downplay it and claim it wasn't that bad. You never stopped to think how it could affect him or how bad what you were doing really was. We saw what it did to him, how it destroyed him and I honestly don't blame him for wanting to escape it." Crystal stepped in between the two, hoping to keep Vergence from slugging Coby. "Come on guys, let's just calm down and take it easy." Vergence backed off, though he still continued to glare angrily at Coby. "I'm not certain you have a place in this conversation." "Maybe. But that doesn't mean I should stand by while a fight breaks out." "You shouldn't even bother intervening in something that isn't even-." Coby was interrupted by Vergence flicking a small ball of electricity, making him squawk from surprise and the light jolt it caused. Crystal then had to suppress her laughter as all of Coby's feathers ended puffing up from the static. Vergence didn't even really make an attempt at holding in his laughter and while Genesis did better, she was still audibly snickering. Coby remained silent as he set about smoothing out his feathers. "Anyway, I think I'd be best heading home." "Hey can you go with her Gen? I'm going to go check out the request board, see what's there." "Sure thing. Meet you back at the inn?" "Sounds goods." The two raptors shared a kiss with each other, brief but intimate. The two parted ways with Crystal following Genesis and as she trailed behind she kinda admired how Genesis had been willing to fight for the friends she had made despite the fact that her father had very much disapproved of them and that her and Vergence were only more motivated to maintain their relationship regardless of Lord Kane's disapproval. ('She's also got a pretty nice looking butt.') Crystal's mind reeled and she couldn't believe that she had actually thought that, her face was soon hot and red with embarrassment. The walk to the palace was quiet and awkward as Crystal tried not to let Genesis know that she had been staring at her butt and keep her gaze away from the raptor, only taking quick glances to make sure that she was still following her. The two of them soon slipped into the palace grounds and reached the window to Crystal's room without incident. Genesis got into position beneath the window, ready to boost Crystal up and through. Crystal leaned out and looked down to Genesis. "Thanks for your help today." "Of course. And for the record Crystal, I think you have a rather nice looking ass." "W-. What?!" "I kinda noticed you staring earlier. Felt it was only fair that I compliment you on yours." "T-thanks." "In any case, I think I'll come by tomorrow and we can head out and do something, heck we could make it a girl's day out." "Really? What about Vergence?" "He's a big boy, I'm sure he'll manage." Crystal couldn't help but giggle a bit. "I guess you're right." "See you tomorrow afternoon."
