The Deception Ch. 1
The Deception
Chapter 1
Recall
The lifeline status on Jonas's HUD showed that all his squad mates were flat-lined and that he was the only remaining marine. He scanned the area around him in three minute intervals and he found no trace of what caused his fellow squad mates to flat-line so quickly. An audible ping on his motion tracker showed movement twenty-five meters ahead of him and he raised his assault rifle in the general direction as whatever it was got closer and closer and when he thought he was going to see it, the ping went away and everything became quiet again. Anxiety took over as he began to get paranoid with his surroundings thinking he heard things move without it showing up on his motion tracker and his heart rate spiked sky high as fear began to cloud his thoughts and actions and he began to sweat from the heat of being inside his power armor all day. A glistening amount of sweat rolls down his forehead and into his eye making him blink multiple times to get the sweat out of his eye as he thinks he saw something scurry along a tree that was a little more than thirty-five meters ahead of him. He fired a series of five round bursts at the tree, thinking he could scare whatever it was out of hiding.
"Rookie, what the hell are you shooting at!?" As he turned with a speed unmatched to the voice as it was from behind him. "Who the fuck are you?" he asked as he was surprised to see a leopard walking on two legs and talking to him. "I'm Leona, a native to this planet and you really don't need your helmet on the atmosphere here is able to let Sapiens, like you, breathe easy". He didn't know what to do but he kept his rifle trained on the apparent female when he saw a dozen more beings like her come out of some sort of invisibility cloak. Shit, this is worse than Deimo Alpha I'm outnumbered and I don't have enough ammo to face them all. Only one thing left to do. he thought silently to himself as he tossed his rifle on the ground and took off his helmet. "So what do you want with me?" He asked with a slight glare at all the leopards around him. "Nothing other than to help you find your fellow friends." Leona said with a slight smile. "Is that so? well it's too late...they're all dead." He said as he looked down clenching his fists feeling a primal rage brewing in his gut. Leona walked towards him and placed a hand on Jonas's shoulder while he was in his thoughts.
The feeling of Leona placing a hand on his shoulder made him react by shrugging off her hand. "Don't touch me." He gave her a look anger and rage and she backed off a little. "Easy, sapient...i mean you no harm and neither do the others but please try and clam down I don't want anyone to get hurt." He looked at her and shook his head. "My name is Jonas. Remember that." He walked over to his rifle and picked it up when he realized that it didn't have his PDT on it. He looked over the rifle and saw a homemade cross hanging from the butt of the rifle. "Church..." He whispered to himself as he began to walk as if his feet had minds of their own and when he looked up he saw that he was heading deeper into the jungle. "Jonas...please be careful out there, there are others that aren't as friendly as us" he heard Leona over his shoulder and he just motioned his hand in a yeah, yeah so what fashion.
After about three hours of walking through the jungle not quite sure of what he was doing he stopped by a tree and sat down to rest when his stomach growled at him. He looked around for any source of food when he saw Leona walk out of the shadows and sit across from him. "Are you hungry?" she asked with almost content. He looked at her and then shook his head. "I'll be fine but thanks for asking Leona." He placed his rifle by his side and look into the sky noticing that the stars were shining brightly and taking it as a sign that something very good or bad was going to happen very soon when another female came out nude and he looked away. "I'm guessing that dressing in clothes isn't normal on this world is it?" He asked Leona indirectly. "Well, it's really only a matter of perspective and how you understand it to be on this world." she said turning to see the new person joining them. "Oh hey Karia, I thought you went to go see if you could fine the others?" "No, I did find them but it's just as he said...they are with those that have passed." the one named Karia said while looking at Jonas in sympathy.
Jonas stood up and slung his rifle over his shoulder and began to walk away when Leona shouted to him. "Hey, wait up!" Jonas turned and stopped as she ran to him and asked him in a low voice so Karia couldn't hear. "What's wrong?" He looked down for a second, sighing. "I have to get them back to my drop ship so their families have a body to see at their funerals." He turned back around and began to walk away, leaving Leona standing there watching him walk away. As he was walking he thought to himself. Why does she care so much for what I'm doing ? I'm just trying to get off this rock and get back to my old life again. His thoughts were interrupted by a bolter round hitting the ground near his feet when he finally heard the gunshot and he dove into the bushes for cover as four more bolter rounds hit the ground near him. "GET THE SAPIENT!" he heard something growl out as plasma fire started to rain down on him but never hit him.
Jonas ejected his magazine to check how many charges he had in the rifle and slotted it back into the rifle and returned fire hitting something as he heard something yell out and drop to the ground. He poped his head out for a quick look and saw that it was a Wolf bigger than any he has ever seen before. Damn, I just had to get this crappy detail. Jonas thought to himself as he fired at the hidden sniper missing it just by a few centimeters. He knew where they were just by following the tracers that plasma rifles had and by how the bolter had a large trail behind the liquid metal it shot at a very high velocity. The next few shots he fired hit all of his enemies in the head as the last shot he fired into one of the others he hit previously that had wounded it made a click noise and told him that his rifle was empty when he was grabbed from behind and tossed into a tree not far from where he was at. He stood back up and turned to face his enemy when he saw a very big female wolf with giant breasts walking towards him with a very sinister look on her face. He pulled out his combat knife and was ready for a fight when she said "You fight well Sapient that much I give you but I didn't throw you because I wanted a fight. It was to save your life." He was confused by what she said when a grenade went off right where he was standing before he was thrown by the wolf. He turned his gaze back to the wolf. "Then what do you want with me?" He still had his knife ready when she was a few feet away. "I want nothing of you other than to mate since I'm in heat." He sniffed the air and recognized the smell of vaginal juices in the direction of the wolf. "Sorry but I must refuse as I have business that needs my attention." The wolf looked at him and smiled. "I wasn't asking you."
