Birth of A New Family
Next Season, King of Fae.
James was reading a spell book, he was looking for a certain spell that may help him get his leg back.
“I’m sick of being a cripple”, James said out loud to himself as he frustratingly searched for such a spell.
James looked at the nest Sasha made, the nest contained two purple eggs.
“How the fuck am I going to be a father if I’m crippled? Can’t run and play with them, I can’t be the father I’d like to be.... I’m not ready for this shit”, James thought to himself as he refocused his attention on the spell book.
James heard a noise coming from the nest.
He got up and saw an egg moving, the creature it contained seems to be attempting to break out of it’s leather like shell. “Goddamn it! I got to get Sasha”! James exclaimed as he frantically hopped on one foot towards his peg leg to put it on.
James got his peg leg and made an attempt to run, James fell to the ground as he failed his attempt to run.
In a fit of rage, James threw his peg leg, got up and decided he’d moved faster hopping on one foot as he exited the cave. As he hopped down the Main Street hastily as he could, he found Alenia.
“Alenia!” James yelled as he hopped to her as quickly as he could.
“James! Where is your peg leg? What’s wrong”? Alenia asked.
“The eggs are hatching! I gotta get Sasha! Will you take me to her?” James asked.
“Oh! Of course”, Alenia said as she bit down on James’s shirt and placed him on her back.
Sasha was speaking with the other five clan leaders, reading different letters, requests of other members to add and remove various laws, some letters also contained grievances, All of which required leadership actions.
“Sasha!” James screamed, interrupting the leaders.
The six dragons looked at James as he hastily hopped on one foot.
“James! It’s against the law to interrupt leaders as they are tending to their duties!” Alestir said firmly.
“Sasha, the eggs are hatching! James exclaimed.
“Sasha, go! Please take your human nuisance as well!” Alestir yelled angrily at her.
“Ouch... A nuisance?” James said placing his hand over his heart.
“I understand your frustration Alestir. But what if I called your mate that? How would you feel? Reading lists of stupid requests on rules and grievance is always annoying, and tedious. But don’t take it out on James. He knows I have to be there to help the little ones if there’s complications as they hatch. Naturally, he’d panic when I’m not there”, Sasha said.
James clumsily attempted to get on Sasha’s back, but with only one working leg, he failed to do it.
“Let me help”, Sasha said. She then bit on his shirt and lifted James up and sat him down on her back. Sasha the exited the clan leader’s cave.
James and Sasha entered their cave, and the two approached the nest. James saw one had its head out of its shell James noticed the hatchling had blue, very human-like eyes. Yet the head and snout of a dragon. The dragon began to make a soft shrieking sound.
“What does that mean when they make that noise?” James said.
“It’s a distress scream, it’s common for hatchlings to make that noise as they try to escape their shell. No need to be alarmed.
James reached in an attempt to help the hatchling.
“James! Do not help... It’s very important for baby dragons to exit their shell alone. Only in dire need do you assist, and if you do assist, their motor skills are delayed”, Sasha said.
James moved his hand away from the hatchling. It continued to made subtle shrieks as it struggled, several minutes latter, the hatchling was out of its shell.
Sasha began licking the hatchling clean, as she finished, she nudged the new born dragon to James.
Like Sasha, it had black scales, and it had four legs like a dragon. Only way to tell James fathered it is the fact it had eyes just like James’s eyes.
“James, do you have a name for our son?” Sasha asked.
“Gale”, James said as he stroked the shoulder of his newborn son.
“Why would you think of Gale as a name?” Sasha asked.
“Gale means strong burst of wind, it’s synonymous with tempest”. James replied.
“It’s an interesting choice of a name. I like it, Gale it is then”, Sasha said as she turned and looked at the other egg in the nest she built.
“When do you think the other one will hatch”? James asked.
“Possibly tomorrow, or it could be a couple more days. Either way, it won’t be long. After they hatch, you’ll hear them begin to repeat the words you say as they learn to speak. You’ll be amazed how fast they learn. So mind your language, it’s important that they have manners”, Sasha said.
As James held Gale, the hatchling began purring like Sasha does and began licking James.
“He likes you already, no doubt he acknowledges you as his father”, Sasha said as she laid laid down next to James.
Sasha then picked James up as he held Gale, and placed him between her forelegs. Sasha nuzzled James and Gale as the three rested. Sasha and James began to form a parental bond with Gale.
James continued to stroke Gale’s neck with his hand. “I am definitely not ready to be a father”, James thought to himself as the fact that he isn’t in any physical condition to raise anything. James glanced over at the book lying at the cave floor he was reading.
“That book has nothing but regeneration spells, there’s got to be something in that book” James thought to himself again.
“Why are you staring at that book, James?” Sasha asked.
“Well, just a book of spells I was reading”, James answered.
“Last time you where interested in magic, you sought to kill Kalix”, Sasha said as she looked at James suspiciously.
“Why do you look suspicious? Look at the book yourself if you’re concerned”, James said, implying he had nothing to hide.
Sasha looked at the cover of the book. “A regeneration spell book? Why are you... Oh... Your leg”, Sasha said as it all began to make sense.
“James, no spell in this book will bring your leg back. Matter of fact, it’s a useless form of magic for what you want”, Sasha stated as she began caressing James’s neck with her tongue.
“You’re quite the sorceress yourself. Do you know of any spells?”, James Asked.
“If I did, you would have a new leg”, Sasha lamented.
“You had two lethal wounds, blood gushed out of your knee like a fountain from the drow’s bullet severing a major artery. And the gunshot wound in your chest. The spell I used to save you can only heal one lethal wound, you had two. So, first I bit your leg off and cauterize the stub to stop the bleeding as I began the spell. The leg was treated as I casted the spell to save you. To this day, the image of seeing you in such condition haunts me”, Sasha said.
James stroked Sasha’s neck as she recalled the incident.
“In our library, there’s a book called Litrithe Sinsearacha Athghiniúna. It’s very ancient, and ancient even by otherworld time. Written by dragons themselves, long before we adapted to become more social creatures. It’s the only record of spells that may have such a spell you seek”, Sasha said.
“So, I just go to the library and check out with it?” James asked.
“It’s not that easy, it takes a unanimous vote by the clan leaders. If a single leader votes no on the matter, the use of the book is prohibited”, Sasha said.
“So they decide weather I walk correctly again? That’s fucked up”, James said.
“Hey! Gale is here”, Sasha said.
“Oh... Right”, James said as he remembered what Sasha said earlier about baby dragons speaking very soon, and often saying what their parents say.
“It’s said to contain all kinds of very powerful spells. Some say it contains knowledge that can make one individual conquer anything and everything. No one has read it, it is locked away in the basement, and that basement is a fortress.
“So getting a new leg is suddenly that political”, James said.
“Yes, the politics may be annoying. But such order exists for reason”, Sasha said.
“Can you bring it to a vote?” James asked.
“I’d be tempted to vote no on the matter myself. You’ll be reinstated in the guard, which means you will be encountering potential dangers on a daily basis. Remember, if one of us dies, both of us do. On top of that, the use of that book is a more serious matter than you know”, Sasha said.
“Then why did you even say such knowledge may exist? Wait... You’re toying with me”, James said.
“I told you this because I do not lie. And I love you enough to explain the truth so you may understand that I may not be able to help you. Besides, you like to cause trouble when you had two legs, you having one makes it easier for me to keep you out of trouble. Sasha said as she chuckled.
“Those where the good old days”, James said.
A slight rustling noise came from the nest.
Sasha’s attention turned to the nest as the the egg moved. “That’d be the other one!” James exclaimed in excitement.
The egg broke open and a red dragon head appeared and it began making the same distress call Gale did. To James’s surprise, it’s head was much smaller than Gale.
“Oh no... You hatched too early”, Sasha said.
James became concerned as he saw the look on Sasha’s face.
A half hour passed, and the hatchling became exhausted as it tried to escape its shell.
“Ok, James. Gently peel the shell, I don’t want to use my claws to help. Your fingers are more gentle”, Sasha said.
As James gently aided the hatchling by making a tear in the leathery shell, the hatchling did the last of the work.
“Are you sure that it hatched early”? James asked as he handed the hatchling to Sasha.
The Hatchling had arms, legs, and torso of a human. The head and tail of a dragon, and neon green eyes, just like Sasha.
Sasha Cleaned the hatchling.
“Solas na Gealaí, that’s her name”, Sasha said as she looked at her daughter.
“What does it mean?” James asked.
“Moonlight”, Sasha responded.
Gale tried to exit the cave. James caught him trying to leave unattended. “Oh no you don’t”, James said as he tried to catch him.
Gale sprinted clumsily, hopping as he ran. James hopped on one foot after him. James had one leg, he failed to catch Gale. “Can you get him”, James said in a defeated tone. Sasha chuckled, He’ll be as fast as a Gale, that’s for sure James. As many say, they are what you name them. Here, aquatint yourself with your daughter. I’ll get Gale”, Sasha said.
“Solas na... Crap...I can’t pronounce the last part... Sasha, why do you have to give such a hard name to say... James said as he kissed his daughter’s forehead.
“Hi Moonlight”, James said.
“Gotcha”, Sasha said as she caught Gale.
“How can James watch after them when he can’t keep them in one place? Especially when she is doing her duties as a leader? He can’t keep them in one place”, Sasha thought to herself.
Sasha brought Gale back in the cave, she sat there thinking of James constantly hopping around town chasing after them.
“Well James, looks like you’ll surely need a new leg. I can’t do leader duties and chase after Gale and Solas na Gealaí at the same time”, Sasha said as she set Gale down.
“I know... That’s why I wanted a new leg”, James said.
