Night of the Werewire (Story)
You arrive home one day to find a strange plug in your home. It buzzes with hypnotic colors inviting you let it attach to your face. If attached, it will feed and take from you, consuming your thoughts and puppeting your body. What follows is a wild and vibrant night of transformation, mind control, and electricity.
A new experiment for me. This is one of my first real attempts at making some art for my story. It’s certainly not a developed skill, but I took my time and am happy with the result. I really like the werewire look and colors, so I hope I did it justice.
On the writing front, I wanted to play around with several gimmicks and techniques, hopefully to improve and enhance the story. I also wanted to go deeper into some good-old-fashioned mind control, who doesn’t love losing all thought and will.
Obviously, werewires are the property of Toby Fox and Deltarune.

—The droning buzz of electricity no longer bothers you. Your apartment window beside an old streetlight, the sound had become almost a constant. By now, it was somewhat comforting, like white noise to help you sleep. Others might be annoyed, you were at first, but it greets you now like a welcome bell as you return from a long day at work.
Zzzt!
However, the electric hum seems louder tonight. At first, it's too minor, and your body is too tired to worry about it. But like a splinter in your head, the strangeness of the sound only gnaws at your mind. Louder, closer, different… Did that streetlight break even more? Is there a wire loose in one of your walls?
Zzzt!
Regardless of what was causing the noise, it seemed entirely new, drilling into your skull. It is different now. Less like an old bulb and more like a live wire, it comes from elsewhere and has a shrill note. With no other recourse, you try to turn your mind from it and perform menial tasks until you were tired enough to sleep. Distracting yourself in the kitchen fails, as does listening to music, as does anything else you try.
Zzzt!
“What the fuck is that!" you shout, your boiling point coming upon you faster than you would expect. After slamming the refrigerator door shut, you turn and begin hunting feverishly for the source. Flicking on the main room's lights, you search for anything that could cause the droning.
Zzzt!
Louder here, you know you're closer, almost at the infuriating whine. You pause for a second, expecting such an electric sound to follow sparks or stuttering lights. However, the answer proves even more obvious.
Zzzt!
Hanging in the corner of the room is a strange object. It halts you, the thing utterly foreign, something you certainly did not bring into your home. Shiny and smooth in the light was what looked like a large plastic cup. Dangling at eye-level, its opening just wide enough for a face. <Why is that thought in my head?>
Zzzt!
Made of light-blue rubber, it was marked by three large green, yellow, and pink bands. It hums that aggravating sound, swaying slightly as if in a breeze. Stranger still, it was attached to a long rubber cord. Like a thick hose, it curls once around the lamp, leading out the open window. Your curiosity overcoming wisdom, you carefully approach and examine the thing.
Zzzt!
The rubber bell is pliable and slightly stretchy, making a pleasing squeak as you run your fingers over it. Charged with a current, it makes your hands tingle. <What the hell is this?> Searching for any clues, you follow the cord through the window. It pulls up out of sight, perhaps attached to something on the roof, perhaps stretching into the inky black sky. Testing it with a tug, it gives a few inches but quickly creates too much resistance to gain anymore. Whatever this thing is, it seems the only thing to study is the plug itself.
Zzzt!
That same buzz draws your attention, the bright colors attracting your vision like a moth to a flame. Despite how odd the thing is, you rather like holding it. Meeting the perfect balance of stiffness and flexibility, it feels like a large stress-toy. The most give comes when you press directly on its front or back. Like a plunger, it collapses and shortens the tube, creating noticeable air pressure with each compression.
Zzzt!
The noise seems not to come from the bell of the device, but within the cup. Upturning it, you finally get a look inside. Though no more than simple neon-colored rings, the interior was strangely alluring. Color after color made the tunnel seem bottomless. Looking in, it seems like if you fell in, you would tumble and fall forever. <If you fall long enough, would you feel weightless? That seems… peaceful.> The vibrant tube seems to occupy more of your vision. Maybe it's harder to look away; maybe it was expanding and filling the room… Honestly, you don't care.
Zzzt!
Something makes you blink, dry eyes, a sound from outside, that little voice in your head that knows something is wrong; it doesn't matter. That moment of darkness, reprieve from the colors, that gives you just enough thought to regain your composure.
Zzzt!
The plug is held a few inches from your face. Even as you gather yourself, you find your arms unconsciously drifting closer. With what will remains, you shove the wire away and stumble back. This is some kind of sick prank, you can't figure out how, but it must be. The right thing to do would be to toss it out the window, get rid of it for good.
Zzzt!
<I just have to ignore it;> you vow to yourself. Flipping the lights and focusing on the usual sounds of the night, you climb into bed. As you close your eyes, you try desperately to silence your thoughts. Once sleep takes you, everything will make sense. What that plug is. How it got inside. Why it seems to still be moving, inching ever closer to your bed.
Zzzt!
The Z's; they seem to resonate within your brain. Z's like the sound of sleep… you find yourself imitating the thought.
Zzzt!
That droning buzz still rings in the room. You're not sure how you once found it annoying. Listening to the sound prepares your thoughts for sleep better than any other, the hum leaving you so wonderfully blank and peaceful.
Zzzt!
Zzzzt!
ZZzzzt!
Something wakes you, a subtle nudge that barely rouses you from the black. Groggily, you think to rise, but you're too tired. Your eyes ache as you search through the dark, finding only one light in the void. Faint, colored light, glowing just as bright as a nightlight. Blue, green, yellow, and pink, the plug dangles just above you.
ZZzzzt!
<Throw it away, just like you said.> That little voice in your head is the true annoyance, butting in with such unhelpful comments. Even so, you hesitate anxiously; something about the voice is correct. You should probably keep the plug away from your head. If nothing else, something so electrically charged should not be close to your face. With a steadying breath, you decide to reach up and push the plug away.
ZZzzzt!
You reach up… No. You reach up. Again, you think the command to lift your arm. Your shoulder moves sluggishly, but you cannot seem to make the rest of the limb continue. Somehow, you've been strapped down, tied helplessly to the soft surface. So soft, has your bed always been this way? You could sink into it, let it bury body and brain.
ZZzzzt!
Arms pinned to your sides, you struggle and squirm. Unable to gain any ground, you shake and fight against the straps binding you down. They make you so sweetly warm, your skin ticklish. Rubber squeaking quietly, you see the long wire snaking behind, the cord thick and strong enough to bind you so. You can picture it wrapping around you like a serpent, holding you down like prey. No matter how you try to move your arms, you can do nothing but lie powerless to watch the plug inch closer.
ZZzzzt!
No, wrong again. As you take a second to feel the material holding you down, the truth becomes apparent. It isn't the rubber cord or some other binding. The blankets that you slept under press upon you like tied weights. Nothing was different about them, the failing solely due to your own weakness. You're so helpless now that even linin sheets can utterly incapacitate you. As the plug shines with such beautiful colors, its tunnel calls out your fight, sucking it down the wire forever.
BZZzzzt!
So close now, you can feel the warmth of the static charge. The colors were no longer painted on the plug, but moving and shifting. The four rings create a truly moving tunnel, something you can feel yourself falling.
BZZzzzt!
Somehow, being aware of the weakness lessened the illusion. Not enough to sit up, but enough to raise your arms. Moving as if sleepwalking through a nightmare, you grab the plug. It hangs an inch from your face, your vision invincibly bound to the center of the tunnel.
BZZzzzt!
Losing yourself in the colors was easy. To fight them off, you need to use the scarce few seconds wisely. Just shove the plug away. One motion and you're free.
BZZzzzt!
Before you cast it aside, you can enjoy the colors a second longer. They're so bright and vibrant and enthralling and beautiful and deep and completing and forceful and… and… and you can't stop staring yet— just a few more seconds.
BZZzzzt!
Why push it away? The plug seems so perfectly fit for your face. Your hands keep the tunnel away, lifted carefully from your skin. You hold it suspended; you feel yourself suspended. It was foolish. You aren't falling down the tunnel. How can you fall down something above you? No, the wire hanging from the ceiling can hold you, lift you. Hung by the plug, you could float weightlessly; adrift and empty.
BZZzzzt!
That inch between you and the object, it seems a void so painfully empty. You squeeze the flexible rubber… and shove the plug onto your face.

The droning buzz of electricity no longer bothers you. The current shot through your face and down your spine, filling you, becoming you. It felt so… It… It hurt.
Lancing through you, the shock makes you convulse and groan in pain. Even as the shifting colors fill your vision, that sensation snaps you from your trance. <What the hell was I thinking!> You jump to your feet, terrified of the foreign object affixed to your face.
Your screams are muffled by the hollow space; energy renewed as you fight the clinging thing. It no longer needs your help, alive and clinging to you like a creature itself. Compressing slightly, it forces out some of the air, the pressure creating a seal against you. Despite your panic, the plug feels nice, flexible rubber gripping tightly against your skin, perfectly fitted to your face.
With desperate scratches, you claw at the wired plug. Pushing the sides only compresses it like a pillow, the shifting air puffing against your face softly. Trying to pry it off fails in equal parts, the lock too tight to break or slip a finger beneath. Pulling at the wire was most useless, stretching the cup and seeming sooner to rip your face off before separating. Bucking and struggling, you try everything, but cannot remove the plug.
Fighting so hard became twice as difficult with every passing second. The tunnel of colors only drew deeper. They're your world now, blinding and consuming everything. Even as you shut your eyes, the light shines through, boring into your brain.
Dizzy, the plunger stretches and bends, but hugs your face perfectly. Your breaths fill you but feel hollow. That small space is vacuum sealed, the air now stale. Weak and whirling, you stumble back onto the bed, fight fading again.
With a hiss, the plug compresses and forces the wire closer. You feel it trying to connect deeper. Of course, you fight against it, grunting and locking your jaw. Of course, you can only fight for so long. Unable to really breathe, you slump and feel your last defense falling. You imagine the pin of a plug extending, pushing into your mouth, invading and plugging you. The rod is pliable yet hard, the same rubber as the walls. Though you cannot tell if this is mere imagination, your face entirely numb from the electricity. For all you knew, the plug could have merged with and replaced your face.
Too weak to stop it, the rubber rod pushes into your mouth, stopping near the back of your tongue. Scrabbling at the could not loosen the plug. Gagging and coughing could not remove the invader. All you can do is lie back and accept the colors. Again, your thoughts begin to drift, hypnotic display overloading your eyes and mind. Seizing the chance, the plug starts to pump and compress. One hand on the wire, you feel the hose inflating sporadically. Rounded lumps roll down its length, pushing through the tube and into the plug… into you.
You cannot say how they enter, seeping into your skin, swallowed, energy merging with you. It does not matter; you can feel them undeniable pushing inside.
Whatever the lumps are, you want to be disgusted. However, you cannot manage it, your body responding too positively. Energy, fresh air, pure electricity, or pure pleasure. It fills you, spine and flesh hot and tingling. You feel alive, right, forgetting fear as you enjoy. Ceasing your fight, simply palm and feel the pumping plug, wanting and needing more.
Electricity dancing through your entire body, you hum and feel your thoughts above. The energy fills you to your core, charging every cell with newfound life. Even as you overflow with it, you need more, pushing the plug on. <God, those colors just make it so much better.> Vibrant colors pull you deeper and deeper, consuming the world and your consciousness.
Looking deeper into the light, you find even thoughts of love for the colors fading. Calm replaces them, the buzz of electricity like warm water. The liquid rose, more and more thoughts falling beneath the surface and vanishing. As haze and buzzing fill your head, the colors begin to merge with your senses. They remain, encompassing your vision like colored glass, but past them, you become aware of the world beyond.
You see your room, the perfect wire snaking through it. Looking down, you see your body glowing faintly with the electricity coursing through it. At first, the soft light radiates across your skin like a warm sheen. However, the light then becomes hued by the colors in the plug. Blue, green, yellow, and pink shift and dance across your skin.
The glow and tingle on your form intensify, skin tickling as your hair stands on end. You shiver as tufts sprout free, a thick pelt spreading across your entire body. Weakly, you raise a hand to feel the fur; the fluff spiky with electricity. It felt soft, downy, and far too fine for your surface.
Unreal, the fur tingles so much that you squirm helplessly. Spikes push out and soften, granting a truly bestial and truly unnatural pelt. The fur takes the same neon colors as your rubber plug, rings and lines of those same beautiful hues.
Bones follow the fur, snapping with electrical pops as they reshape. You watch through the haze as your limbs stretch and lengthen, becoming clawed and lanky, with monstrously oversized hands and paw-pads. Sharp, dangerous points punctuate each finger, dangerous and crackling with arcs of lightning. With these new claws, you try again to remove the plug, only bending the rubber. How foolish to think it would grant you tools with which to defeat it. As impressive as these new limbs are, manipulating them soon proves too tiring, and they fall limp at your sides, knees bent and loose.
Pressure builds in your spine, forcing you down onto all fours just to relieve the weight. Spine popping and pants tearing, your groan buzzing with a static-filled muzzle, a new tail bursts free and pushes from your pants. The fleshy growth begins with a thin layer of colorful fuzz, but the hairs quickly extend into full-grown fur, standing spiky and charged.
Moving the limb feels strangely natural. Like you had always known how to control it, but were only now allowed sensations through it. As it wags and bobs, you feel the air brushing against your pelt. When raised, a cooler breeze graces your underside.
Finally, with bones and skin complete, your muscles and flesh shift to their final shapes. Sound cut out, leaving you with only the buzzing noise filling your skull. Your muscles feel both weak, tired, and stiff; you suspect they would be sore if you could still process pain. Following your fur, your body builds and tones. You become taller and stronger, muscles showing through your pelt. It strains your clothes and pops buttons free, threads separating and snapping.
Though the tight clothes limit your movement, your attention instead turns to a new wave of sensations. Your hearing returns with a cacophony of new sounds, ears unbelievably sensitive as they grow. Now situated at the top of your head, the organs emerge pointed and cupped. The triangular appendages grow tufts at the ends. The sound of pulsing blood fills your hearing as flesh shifts, extending until the ears are larger than your actual head.
The last changes center on your nether regions. You groan, half with pleasure and half with discomfort as your member pulls inward. Soon, smooth flesh covers everything below the belt. A fluff of pink fur covers the spot, hiding even the slight bulge now occupying the space.
Hand exploring the changes, you press at the spot. It sends tingles through you, the touch satisfying and pleasurable. Relishing the sensation, you continue but quickly find the feeling plateauing. No matter how you touch, it can only bring you to that stopping point. The wire wants you to enjoy your new form, but still rely solely on it for satisfaction and heights.
Rising to a high stance, you feel the queasy transformations finally finish. Stronger, taller, more ferocious, and more colorful, you have become a proper werewire. You know it should scare or disgust you, that you should mourn your lost humanity, but those thoughts cannot seem to form. The wire continues to pulse, feeding you electricity, purpose, and pleasure. However, it seems also to suck something from you. Those colors whirl ceaselessly, drawing out thoughts and energy.
Falling to a slouch, you feel tired and sapped. <It's ok, though. It can take my energy. I can give it to a greater purpose.> You think again to pull the plug from your face, but your arms refuse to rise. Not even a finger twitches on your command. Nor can you move your head, legs, back, or any part of your body. Standing at rest, you can feel yourself, but are left as motionless a puppet on lax strings.
It's hard to process with your mind so entranced. Most ideas disappear in the haze before they could take shape. Difficult to even think about, your thoughts begin sluggishly but lead nowhere and are swiftly forgotten. Honestly, even that is exhausting. Focusing on the colors was much easier. They fill your vision and pull you deeper as you hang in the tunnel. It is easier to simply let things go blank. If you cannot move or think, it is like you were no longer awake. Your body and consciousness sleep, leaving only senses and awareness behind to take in the neon colors.
Interrupting your sleep, a slight tug bobs your head. Neck moving of its own accord, you look to the blue wire that feeds and controls you. Like a path, it leads your steps… No, more like a leash. Though your body is active again, following the tether to whatever task it requires, you still have no control over your movements. Little jolts compel your muscles, body following without any concern for your desires.
Like a puppet on strings, your limbs carry you from your apartment, crackles of electricity creating sounds that mock speech. You almost consider resisting, exerting your will to see which is stronger. Though you already know the answer. Those colors only shine brighter, pulse faster. <No point in thinking.> A final string seems to descend onto the puppet that is you, coiling around your brain and feeding you but one thought: Obey, Serve.

Waking comes as a surprise. Such a thoughtless state seemed something so deep as to never return from. Buzzing electricity and shifting colors greet you, calming and reminding you of your purpose. Yet, even through the entrancing stimuli, your thoughts ring in your head. Like removing a cast from a limb, you feel free despite the remaining bindings.
You think like a lamp in the fog, dim but present. Scratching your head, you notice something even more surprising. When you wanted to scratch, you did. Your body was your own. Though still tired, you want to take advantage of this before Master retakes control. That would happen, your body and mind becoming a tool. But you do not fear it. Instead, feeling warm and proud to be useful.
<Walk> After a moment, your legs lift, and you amble forward, following the blue wire. <Raise a hand> The limb pauses, then climbing lazily above your head. You are definitely in control, thoughts propelling your body. <Touch the plug> You wait a second, your limb then falls to caress the rubber plug. It creates a pleasing squeak, stretching slightly. You can feel the buzz of emerging coursing in and out of you through it.
<Pull it off> You command it suddenly, sensing this to be a rare opportunity. However, your hand does not even twitch, still lovingly pressed against it. <Pull it off!> Again, your body makes no movement to obey.
<Walk> After a moment, you take lazy steps forward, led by the wire. Control is not lost. At least, not entirely. <Call for help> Again, you simply stand there, staring into the colors. The fatigue hits you, leaving you too tired to keep trying.
It makes sense. Though you control your movements, they feel odd. Each time you try to act, a slight delay sits before you actually do. Time in which each thought is sent down the wire, considered, and only sent back if acceptable. You're just as much a puppet as before. Now, you have a hand on the controller, but it's still the strings that move you.
It doesn't matter. It's not like you really want to resist. You cannot help but notice the wire you're still following. Though you thought your mind your own, your commands still comported to the direction it led. The wire still guided your brain, pushing it to serve Master.
But that's ok. You hardly remember what you were trying to prove anyway. As a tingle washes over your mind, your eyes unfocus and follow the colors.
You're happy to serve Master. It's much better to turn your thoughts to that purpose instead of… instead of… What were you even thinking about anyway? This body is so much better than that drab, weak one. This mind is so much better hazy and happy. Paws running over yourself, you think only of thanking Master for this gift, of giving energy, of following its will, of <Serve>, of <Obey>
