Pokemon - To Catch Them All - Fuchsia City
#10 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All
Leo challenges the Fuchsia City gym and explores Route 19 and 20
Having caught Tauros, Pinsir and Scyther, I had been training them to catch up with the other team members and they had already been making good progress. Tauros got along rather well surprisingly with my Fighting Types. I think it may have been because they helped train him with his physical strength. Pinsir and Scyther both being Bug Types trained well together. Scyther was fast and I'd been training him to get even faster. Pinsir had also been doing very well, he'd been getting along well with Beedrill. Other Pokemon I'd recently caught, those being Farfetch'd and Snorlax, were progressing well.
With Snorlax the challenge was convincing him to battle, I understood he much preferred to sleep and eat, but eventually he came around and seemed to not mind battling as much. We may not have created the strongest bond as of yet, but since we'd only really just started, that made sense. However, Farfetch'd was quite the opposite, he enjoyed battling whenever he got the opportunity. Trainers had come and gone and hadn't ever caught him. Leo was the first trainer in quite some time, to come along and actually catch a Farfetch'd which just so happened to be him.
After training the new team members and the old ones as well, I continued on and reached Route 15 and decided to battle against a coach trainer, who informed me as a bit of passing advice that the trainers along here were rather powerful. At that she sent out a Machoke and I sent out my newly evolved Pidgeot and had him use a powered up Wing Attack which knocked Machoke out. The next opponent sent out was a Magmar and I substituted for my Marowak who used Bone Rush and knocked Magmar out. The next opponent was a punk who sent out a Primeape that looked battle hungry however it stood no chance against Kadabra's Psychic. The next Pokemon sent out was a Muk and I continued battling with Kadabra who wrapped the battle up with another Psychic.
A second punk challenged me with a Arbok and I sent out my Hypno and had him use, Psybeam and defeat Arbok. A beauty then challenged me to a battle and used three Growlithe's for each Growlithe I had Dugtrio use Bulldoze repeatedly winning me the battle. The next opponent was a bird keeper who sent out a Dodrio and I sent out my Raichu and had him use Thunderbolt knocking Dodrio out. The final trainer that battled me was a picnicker who sent out a Tangela, which was defeated by my Charizard's Flamethrower and then the final opponent was a Seaking who I substituted for my Persian, he hadn't had much battling recently, so I wanted to give him some battle attention. He used Slash and knocked Seaking out.
At that I headed west and arrived in Fuchsia City, sight of my next gym battle, but first, I headed to the nearby Pokemon centre and healed my Pokemon. Once that was done, before I headed to the gym, I wanted to do some training and so headed south to see if anybody wanted to battle on Route 19. Turns out there was, the first trainer I battled was a swimmer who sent out a Dratini and I sent out my Clefable and had him use Moonblast which was super effective against the Dragon Type Dratini. A second swimmer then challenged me with a Starmie and I sent out my Venusaur, who used Seed Bomb and knocked Starmie out.
After defeating the two swimmers I noticed an abundance of Water Pokemon swimming in the ocean before me and decided to have a go at catching them. "Come out Gyarados!" Gyarados landed in the warm water and seemed to enjoy being in the ocean. "Gyarados can you carry me out to the ocean so I can catch those Pokemon?" I didn't even need to ask as Gyarados leaned down and grabbed me in his mouth before depositing me on his back where I could see much farther. Gyarados began swimming out in the ocean, where I could see a Staryu I wanted to catch. Directing Gyarados there he was my best choice for battling while in the ocean. "Gyarados use Bite!" Staryu didn't even have time to dodge when he was struck by Bite. "Pokeball go!" At that I watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Staryu has been registered to your Pokedex. Staryu the Star Shape Pokemon, a Water Type. Fish Pokemon nibble at it, but Staryu isn't bothered. Its body regenerates quickly, even if part of it is completely torn off."
At that Gyarados spotted a second Pokemon I hadn't yet caught a Tentacool was swimming around before he noticed the fast approaching Gyarados. Tentacool fired Poison Sting but Gyarados deflected them with an Aqua Tail being careful to not injure his trainer. "Use Bite!" Bite again struck Tentacool weakening it to the point where I threw a Pokeball. I watched as it shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Tentacool has been registered to your Pokedex. Tentacool the Jellyfish Pokemon, a Water and Poison Type. This Pokemon is mostly made of water. A Tentacool out in the ocean is very hard to spot, because its body blends in the sea." At that I'd successfully caught both Tentacool and Staryu and couldn't of been happier. Gyarados was happy as well.
I didn't want to stray too far from Fuchsia City, I wanted to win my gym badge and then continue exploring and battling the trainers on the route. However, that's not too say I didn't do training with Tentacool and Staryu. Since I'd only just caught Staryu, I didn't feel it was right to evolve it yet, but we did begin to make a strong bond together. Meanwhile with Tentacool, when battling together he already showed me how powerful he was, defeating his opponents with poison. Eventually he begun to evolve, not too soon after being caught. "Tentacruel has been registered to your Pokedex. Tentacruel the Jellyfish Pokemon a Water and Poison Type. It alerts others to danger by stridently flashing the red orbs on its head."
After Tentacruel evolved, he expressed his sudden gratitude to me almost immediately, swiftly, he took me from the protesting Gyarados and wrapped me in his many tentacles, apparently he had 80, but no way was I even attempting to count them myself. Gyarados followed closely behind, as Tentacruel brought me back to dry land right outside Fuchsia City. "Thank you both Gyarados and Tenacruel, return for now and get some rest."
Even though I had only done a small amount of battling against two swimmers and several wild Pokemon, I knew it would be smart to go and have my Pokemon healed at the Pokemon Centre. After heaving them healed, I headed over to the Fuchsia City gym. Before entering I knew about this gym thanks to my research, the gym leader was Janine. It was formerly run by Koga but now Janine. She specialised in Poison Types meaning out of my current Pokemon the types that had the advantage would be Ground and Psychic.
Therefore my options were limited to, Sandslash, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Dugtrio, Kadabra, Graveler, Onix, Hypno, Marowak, Rhyhorn and Mr. Mime. To have the highest chance of success, I wanted one Psychic type and one Ground Type to prepare for all possibilities. As such, the team I chose to use was Kadabra, Marowak and Nidoqueen.
I entered the gym, noticing the gym appeared to be rather different than the previous ones I'd challenged, it appeared more outdated but in a sense this building was from a different time. Looking around, I didn't see any gym leader or anybody else around. Though I was surprised when a women appeared wearing what I believed was a ninja suit. She appeared from a cloud of smoke surprising me with her sudden appearance. I tried to remain calm, showing nerves would make me weak and would compromise my battle strategy. My Pokemon needed me to remain confident if they were to perform their best.
"My name is Leo, I'm from Viridian City and I am here to challenge you to a gym battle!" I announced trying to portray my confidence. Janine nodded her head, "I accept your challenge, as Janine the gym leader of Fuchsia City, I specialise in Poison Types. I hope you've come prepared for the battle your facing." At that the referee appeared and announced the rules.
"This battle will be three on three and will end when one sides Pokemon are unable to continue battling. Trainers please send out your Pokemon!" Janine started, "come out Weezing!" While I chose mine, "Kadabra I need your help!" At that the battle started. "Weezing, use your Smokscreen!" Weezing exhaled a plume of smoke covering the battlefield. Kadabra remained unfazed and concentrated, "Kadabra can you sense Weezing's presence?" I asked and when I heard his conformation I smiled. "Use Psychic!" Through the smoke, Kadabra used his psychic abilities and located Weezing who was in amongst the smoke hiding. The Psychic landed an impressive blow and forced Weezing down on to the battlefield.
Weezing groaned at the unexpected move, but at Janine's encouragement floated back into the battle and glared at Kadabra who returned the glare. "Not bad, Weezing Toxic!" I knew that was a bad move and knew I had to stop it no matter what. "Kadabra use Psychic once more." Kadabra used his Psychic to control Toxic just moments before it could poison him. At a simple gesture Kadabra moved the Toxic to the side where it dissipated when it made contact with the ground.
"Kadabra use Future Sight!" At first glance the move seemed to do nothing but in a few turns the move would take effect I just had to finish the battle soon, so Future Sight would take care of the next Pokemon coming in. "Kadabra now use another Psychic on Weezing!" Janine attempted to counter by having Weezing use Smokescreen and obscure Kadabra, but Kadabra relied more on his psychic abilities rather than sight in battle. Once more Kadabra hurled Weezing on to the ground where it lay now defeated. "Weezing is unable to battle, the winner is Kadabra!"
Janine returned her Weezing thanking it for it's attempt, before she grabbed her next Pokemon. "Come out Venomoth!" Venomoth appeared fluttering fast around the battlefield. Kadabra did seem to struggle to keep up with such a fast Pokemon, but I remained confident. Future Sight would appear soon and the unpredictability would make it almost impossible for Venomoth to dodge or counter.
"Venomoth use Stun Spore!" Venomoth blew a orange powder to my Kadabra who patiently awaited his commands. "Dodge and use Teleport, get behind Venomoth!" Kadabra disappeared and reappeared directly behind Venomoth. "Now use Psychic!" Psychic scored a direct hit, but Venomoth seemed relaively unharmed. "Return Kadabra!" I substituted Kadabra if only to preserve him for later. Future Sight was going to appear very soon. "I need your help Nidoqueen!"
Nidoqueen roared as she descended on the battlefield, glaring up at the fluttering Venomoth. "Venomoth Psybeam!" I had forgotten that Venomoth could use Psychic attacks and panicked momentarily before recomposing myself. "Nidoqueen counter that with Sludge Bomb!" Nidoqueen repeatedly fired Sludge Bomb's attempting to counter the Psybeam. The two kept up their attacks but just as Psybeam appeared to be pushing forward, the sky lit up and Future Sight struck Venomoth and knocked it out.
"Venomoth is unable to battle, Nidoqueen is the winner!" At that Janine returned her Venomoth and grabbed her final Pokemon. I was growing more confident, knowing she only had one Pokemon, while I had all three and one hadn't even battled yet. It may not even need to if I could play this right. "Your my final Pokemon, lets turn this around Ariados!" I grabbed my Pokedex not knowing much about Ariados other than their type and their originally from the Johto Region.
"Ariados the Long Leg Pokemon a Bug and Poison Type. It spews threads from its mouth to catch its prey. When night falls, it leaves its web to go hunt aggressively." Ariados shared the same typing with Venomoth but they couldn't be more different if they tried. "Ariados use Sticky Web!" The much faster Ariados covered the field with Sticky Web and when Nidoqueen tried to avoid the thread, her foot became trapped by the apparently strong threads.
"Nidoqueen can you break the thread?" I questioned concerned but not panicked yet. Nidoqueen struggled, trying to pry herself free from the threads before she turned to me grinning slightly. Understanding her strategy I remained composed. Nidoqueen was pretending to be stuck in order to lure Ariados in too striking distance to finish the battle with a single move.
"Ariados, finish this with Sucker Punch!" As Ariados scuttled over it was unfazed by the sticky thread which covered the battlefield which made sense. As Ariados approached Nidoqueen feigned struggling and began panicking. When Ariados got as close as we wanted I made my move. "Nidoqueen now use Earth Power!" Nidoqueen slammed her fist intro the ground creating a small fissure which struck the Ariados. Ariados didn't go down as easy as we would have hoped, managing to land a powerful Sucker Punch which had Nidoqueen reeling.
Recognising that Nidoqueen would need a break, I substituted once again, Ariados was clearly running on empty and Marowak would be able to finish the battle. "Nidoqueen take a rest, you battled brilliantly." I grabbed Marowak's Pokeball. "I need your help Marowak." Marowak appeared swinging his club with vigour. The Sticky Web did cause some trouble as his speed was decreased but he remained confident seeing his opponent was clearly struggling to continue battling.
"Marowak lets win this by using Bone Rush!" Marowak charged towards Ariados swinging his club with power. Janine remained unfazed, "Ariados counter that with Sucker Punch once more!" As the two moves were about to collide Ariados managed to strike Marowak first with a powerful Sucker Punch. Gritting his teeth Marowak endured the hit and struck back using Bone Rush. That seemed to finish the battle as Ariados collapsed exhausted but Janine seemed proud of her teams efforts. "Ariados is unable to battle and that means the winner is Leo from Viridian City!" The referee announced. Janine returned her Pokemon before walking over to me, badge in hand.
"Congratulations challenger, I still have much to learn from inheriting this gym from my father and maybe one day, when I am at his skill level, we can have a rematch where I can use my full strength against you!" I accepted her future battle challenge, "also here is your reward, the Soul Badge as proof you have bested me in combat." I placed the badge in my case and thanked Janine once again for the battle before leaving.
I had my Pokemon healed and once that was done thanked them all for their efforts. Kadabra was great with his powerful Psychic. Nidoqueen battled with such fervour and Marowak was skilled at using his bone. They had all grown so much from when I first caught them. It was really showing me how far they had come and how far I had come as well.
Taking the time, I contacted my mother and let her know how my journey was going. "How is it in Fuchisa City?" My mother asked me curiously, "It's different from the other cities and towns I've visited and in a good way. It's nice and quiet hear, rather peaceful actually." I remarked observing the beautiful scenery around me. "Sounds like I should visit there someday. Anyways, where are you headed next?" Mother asked me wanting to know more. "I think I'm going to Saffron City, there's a gym there, I've heard it's quite challenging." My mum agreed and that was the end of our conversation.
Retrieving my Pokemon I headed south to continue fully exploring Route 19, "come on out Gyarados!" Gyarados appeared once more and recognising the familiar scenery it seemed he knew what I was going to ask and so before I could ask. Gyarados leaned down once more, grabbed me in his mouth and deposited me on his back, with such grace. Heading out through the route, I was challenged by a beauty who did appear to be nervous of Gyarados, but I wasn't actually planning on battling with him, not while we were exploring.
The beauty sent out a Golduck and I sent out Tentacruel, since it was a battle between Water Pokemon, it wouldn't be as easy as battles on land. Tentacruel showed me his strength by winning with a Poison Jab. The second Pokemon sent out was a Cloyster and another Poison Jab was enough to defeat Cloyster too. The next opponent was a swimmer who sent out a Poliwhirl and I sent out Kingler, who won with a well placed Slam. Continuing on another swimmer challenged me with a Seel and I sent out Golduck whose Zen Headbutt won the battle. The second Pokemon sent out was a Seadra while I continued with Golduck. A second Zen Headbutt defeated Seadra. The final Pokemon sent out was a Seel, who fell the same as before.
Heading on, I was surprised when I spotted in the distance a Lapras swimming about, Gyarados too noticed the Pokemon and swam towards it, knowing I would want to catch it. When Lapras saw us approaching it, it launched an Ice Beam, which Gyarados just barely avoided. Where the Ice Beam struck the water it froze a patch and created a suitable area for a small Pokemon to land.
"Come on out Raichu!" Raichu landed effortlessly on the ice patch, before he realised the potentially precarious situation. "Raichu use Thunderbolt!" Lapras countered using Ice Beam and the two moves collided. Neither was giving an inch. But Raichu pumped up the power of Thunderbolt and blasted through Ice Beam striking Lapras for super effective damage.
"Pokeball go!" I threw the Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Lapras has been registered to your Pokedex. Lapras the Transport Pokemon a Water and Ice Type. A smart and kind-hearted Pokemon, it glides across the surface of the sea while its beautiful song echoes around it." I released Lapras and healed him up, Lapras was thankful for the healing and nuzzled me softly, he really was such a gentle and kind-hearted Pokemon.
A beauty then challenged me with a Vaporeon the Water Type evolved form of an Eevee and I battled with Tentacruel. having him use a powerful Poison Jab to defeat Vaporeon. A second beauty challenged me with a Seel and I sent out my Golduck and had him use a Zen Headbutt and knock Seel out. The second Pokemon sent out was a Seaking and I substituted for my Blastoise seeing as we were in the ocean he would enjoy this very much. A single Skull Bash was powerful enough to defeat Seaking.
I had decided that before I headed to Saffron City, I wanted to briefly visit Cinnabar Island, not too challenge the gym there, but to restore the fossils I had found at Mt Moon. Exploring further I left Route 19 and headed to the west through to Route 20 and was challenged by a swimmer who sent out a Gyarados. I battled with my newest addition Lapras and he performed well defeating Gyarados with a powerful Ice Beam.
The next opponent was a swimmer who sent out a Golduck and I sent out Blastoise who used Skull Bash and defeated Golduck. The second Pokemon sent out was a Gyarados and I had Blastoise overpower it with Skull Bash once again. A beauty then challenged me with a Wartortle and I sent out my Golduck and used Zen Headbutt to win the battle. The next opponent was a Starmie and I had my Gyarados use Bite to knock Starmie out with a super effective move.
Eventually I came across a small island which was called the Seafoam Islands and I knew there were quite a few Ice Pokemon which lived inside there.
