Pokemon - To Catch Them All - Burned Tower
#25 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All
Leo arrives at Ecruteak City and encounters some legendary Pokemon
After spending such a wonderful, relaxing time in National Park. The Pokemon eventually demanded that I continue on so that they could get stronger for me and to protect me. I accepted and we headed East from the National Park and reached Route 36. I began exploring the route and was soon challenged by a Psychic who sent out a Abra and I sent out my Yanma and had him use Aerial Ace which overpowered Abra giving Yanma the win. Next was a Kadabra and I substituted for my Ariados and had him use Bug Bite which defeated Kadabra this was repeated with the second Abra sent out as well. Exploring further I came across some grass patches and began having a look around to see what could be found and soon came across a Stantler prancing across the grassland.
However, I also knew something about Stantler's horns, looking at them could cause you to see mirages, visions that weren't real and were all created to fool you. As such, I decided to avoid looking directly at Stantler's horns if at all possible. "Come out Heracross!" Heracross appeared staring down Stantler and seemed unaffected by Stantler's horns making me wonder if it affected only humans which seemed unlikely. "Heracross use Brick Break!" Heracross charged towards Stantler who snorted before countering using Sand Attack and throwing sand in Heracross' face.
"Cover your eyes Heracross!" I shouted concerned knowing that if Sand Attack worked then Heracross would be at a massive disadvantage. Heracross stopped cold in his tracks covering his eyes, frustrated that he couldn't do anything to stop Stantler. Stantler however observed closely Heracross and his trainer wondering what their strategy would be for getting past the Sand Attack and scoring a direct hit. "Heracross go on through the Sand Attack but keep covering your eyes, until I say so." Heracross seemed concerned but I quickly reassured him. "You can trust me Heracross!" At that Heracross smirked having full confidence in his beloved trainer before flying straight through the sand.
The wings blew most of the sand away without even needing to use any real moves. "Now use Brick Break once more Heracross!" Now that Heracross was much closer to Stantler, there was no way Sand Attack could be used to block Brick Break. Stantler seemed to come to the same decision and decided to counter the move head on by using a powerful Take Down. The two Pokemon clashed and Stantler was beginning to push Heracross back until Heracross got into prime position and landed a powerful double Brick Break on Stantler. This was enough to weaken Stantler to the point where I could throw a Pokeball. I watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed.
"Stantler has been registered to your Pokedex. Stantler the Big Horn Pokemon a Normal Type. Staring at its antlers creates a odd sensation as if one were being brought into their centres." I quickly healed up Stantler and approached cautiously wondering if I needed to avert my eyes, however Stantler huffed amused at his new trainers hilarious personality. Stantler nudged me gently causing me to stare directly into his eyes and by close association, his antlers as well. However, Stantler didn't place me in some sort of trance, which made me wonder. Did Stanter only cause strange sensations to trainers that they didn't like or perhaps didn't trust if that was the case, then perhaps this Stantler trusted me. That was really good to know if that were the case.
I continued exploring because I wondered if there was anything new other than Stantler living on the route and Stantler approached me gesturing me to follow with some impatience shining in his eyes. I followed as quick as I could and soon understood what Stantler wanted to show me, it was a Cyndaquil that lived here, very strange. I had believed Cyndaquil would prefer to live in a more volcanic or warm environment since they were Fire Types. "Stantler, how about we see how good of a team we make by catching that Cyndaquil?" Stantler huffed in agreement and headed over to Cyndaquil.
"Stantler use Take Down!" Stantler glowed yellow before charging towards Cyndaquil who looked up confused before realising what was happening. Cyndaquil countered by using Smokescreen which blocked everyone's view. From within the smoke Stantler was slightly nervous trying to sense where Cyndaquil was, or where his trainer was for reassurance. Cyndaquil had a little more trouble but used Ember and luckily managed to score a direct hit on Stantler who glared in annoyance. The attack didn't do as much as he expected but still without seeing Cyndaquil he was at a disadvantage.
"Stantler, when you see Cyndaquil use Take Down and finish it in one go!" I shouted through the smoke and Stantler nodded before remembering his trainer couldn't hear him so he answered with reassurance. From the smoke an Ember came towards Stantler but he dodged expertly before charging right where the Ember came from before landing a massive hit with Take Down throwing Cyndaquil out of the smokescreen toward his trainer. Stantler exited the smokescreen which was beginning to dissipate to see that Cyndaquil was down and his trainer was preparing to throw a Pokeball.
I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the catch was confirmed. "Cyndaquil has been registered to your Pokedex. Cyndaquil the Fire Mouse Pokemon a Fire Type. It has a timid nature. If its is startled, the flames on its back burn more vigorously." I healed up Cyndaquil and Stantler before introducing myself to the newest Pokemon. Cyndaquil was definitely timid, but I'd noticed when battling wild Pokemon Cyndaquil seemed to lose that timidness and instead went through a personality change and was instead confident and aggressive.
After checking the Rotom phone and learning there were no new Pokemon available here I continued onwards and was challenged by a Psychic who sent out a Tangela and I sent out Cyndaquil for his first real battle against a trainer. Cyndaquil used a few Embers which eventually defeated Tangela and allowed him to evolve already. It was quick but I guess the battles against the wild Pokemon had increased his experience enough to gain an evolution. "Quilava has been registered to your Pokedex. Quilava the Volcano Pokemon a Fire Type. It intimidates foes with the heat of its flames. The fire burns stronger as it begins to fight." Quilava was definitely no longer timid and was much more confident in battle against anyone he battled.
After defeating that trainer, I continued onward and was suddenly stopped in my tracks. The route ahead had been blocked by a strange looking tree that just so happened to resemble a Sudowoodo. Acting on a hunch I brought Crcoconaw out. "Croconaw use a light Water Gun on that tree." Croconaw grinned nodding before unleashing Water Gun against the tree. The water splashing against the tree, woke the tree up and it was revealed to be a Sudowoodo. It seemed quite annoyed at being splashed and decided to attack Croconaw.
"Croconaw another Water Gun please!" Croconaw blasted with a much stronger Water Gun bowling Sudowoodo over and clearly weakened Sudowoodo enough for me to throw a Pokeball. I watched as the Pokeball shook, once, twice three times before the capture was confirmed. "Sudowoodo has been registered to your Pokedex. Sudowoodo the Imitation Pokemon a Rock Type. It stands along paths pretending to be a tree. If it starts raining, it seems to disappear." After being healed up Sudowoodo calmed down and seemed much happier. Sudowoodo was a very patient and amusing Pokemon, since he liked imitating anything he could he liked to try and make me laugh by imitating anything he could.
The two of us definitely seemed to make a good team. At that though the route was no longer blocked and I continued on my way. Before heading North I wanted to have a look at the Ruins of Alph. Though I wasn't interested in mythology or archaeology there may still be something of interest to me. Looking around the place seemed to be empty with nobody around at all. Still I felt like something was around watching me, yet I didn't feel threatened by the presence. I found a chamber of sorts and entered, it went down a few levels and each level had some statues of what looked like ancient Pokemon that were created in ancient times by people who revered them.
Exploring further, I came across a unique Pokemon that suddenly appeared in my face without me even expecting it. The Pokemon was an old version of the alphabet and Unown, specifically this Unown was the letter L. I decided to have a go at catching it, even though I knew the Pokemon only knew the move Hidden Power and nothing else. In my eyes that didn't make this Pokemon weak, or disappointing. It gave me a challenge to work with and bond with a Pokemon that nobody likely has ever done before. "I need your help Quilava!" Quilava appeared staring down the Unown that floated aimlessly about before suddenly unleashing Hidden Power against Quilava.
"Dodge that, then use Ember!" Quilava expertly dodged Hidden Power before using Ember scoring a direct hit and even scoring a burn against Unown. I took a chance and threw a Pokeball and watched as the Pokeball shook once, twice, three times before the catch was confirmed. "Unown has been registered to your Pokedex. Unown the Symbol Pokemon a Psychic Type. They seem to communicate among each other telepathically. They are always found stuck on walls." Unown was an interesting Pokemon, a very skittish Pokemon that seemed to not completely understand what had happened. Still, it was my responsibility to help show this Pokemon that I was a friend and not a foe. The first step was healing the Pokemon up and so I grabbed a potion and restored Unown to full health before then administering a Burn Heal removing the burn that ailed Unown as well.
That seemed to convince or at least show Unown that the human before it only wanted to care for it as best as he could. As such the Unown decided to accompany the trainer through his journey to learn more about him. After finishing my short exploration of the ruins I returned to Route 36 and began continuing onward to the next city. I headed north and soon reached Route 37 and a quick look at the Rotom phone showed me I had already caught all the Pokemon here already. My first opponent was a Psychic who challenged me with a Drowzee and I sent out my Pineco having him use Bug Bite defeating Drowzee.
Next was a double battle, two Twins challenged me with a Mareep and a Marill. I sent out Quagsire to handle Mareep and Bayleef to handle Marill. The two Pokemon worked well together, covering each other, which allowed Quagsire to use Mud Bomb defeating Mareep and Bayleef to send a barrage of Razor Leaf's at Marill winning the battle. Next two Beauty's challenged me, with two Clefable and two Wigglytuff. I sent out Ariados and Croconaw and had them use a combination of Water Gun and Poison Sting to defeat the two Fairy Pokemon.
Continuing north I eventually reached Ecruteak City which looked beautiful and mysterious with a sort of olden charm. The main topic of Ecruteak City was the Burner Tower, though as its name suggests the Burned Tower was originally in tact, but a fire had destroyed almost the entirety of the tower, the only parts of the tower that still lived were the basement and the entrance floor. The tower actually used to be called the Brass Tower and was apparently home to Lugia a long time ago, though it was abandoned when the fire destroyed the tower. However, there were three special Pokemon that had some connection to the now Burned Tower and they were Raikou, Entei and Suicune three powerful legendary Pokemon that rarely showed themselves to people.
From what I understood each Pokemon represented different parts of what caused the destruction of the Burned Tower. First there was Raikou who represented the lightning that struck the tower which caused the fire. Then there was Entei who represented the fire itself that burned through the tower. Then there was Suicune who represented the rain that extinguished the flames. These Pokemon were said to have been revived by another legendary Pokemon. That story went when the tower was burning down, three unknown Pokemon were trapped inside the tower as it was burning down and they couldn't escape. One by one they were ultimately taken from this land. However, the legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh revived those Pokemon into the aforementioned legendary Pokemon Raikou, Entei and Suicune.
I naturally wasn't expecting to even come across any such legendary Pokemon here since they likely abandoned the tower a long time ago. Still part of me wondered whether they might one day returned to this tower, perhaps paying their respects. I looked around the tower and saw the remnants of it, the flames had done such catastrophic damage burning the floor and creating holes everywhere. It was a dangerous place to explore that's for sure but I knew that I couldn't leave this place unexplored in the event that a discovery might await me.
As such I gingerly stepped through the tower carefully avoiding the holes and ensuring that I didn't fall through the floor which seemed stable enough but one could never be too sure. At that I carefully descended down a ladder that was relatively stable enough to handle my weight without breaking instantly. Once I got down, I was suddenly very nervous and shocked. Before me were three powerful Pokemon, Raikou, Entei and Suicune. The three legends that the legend spoke off were right before me. They each observed me with calculating interest shining in their eyes.
The first to take off was Raikou who stared intently at me, before I think it was smiling in interest it was very difficult to tell, but that was the impression I received. Then Entei took of exuding powerful flames and roaring with the strength and power of a volcano erupting. Entei seemed to glance at me as well, I wondered if he sensed anything from me that he found worthy as it sure seemed like it. Finally, there was the elegant but powerful Suicune who danced around me before jumping right over me exiting through the window. Before it left, it turned to face me once more seeming to smile before it suddenly turned to the nearby ladder seeing a person approaching. With such speed and grace, Suicune disappeared as fast as it appeared.
I turned to face what had scared Suicune off and it was a man who looked older than me and he seemed to be huffing, gasping trying to regain his breath. "Did you see that?" The man asked me curiously, his eyes shining with excitement and awe at what he briefly saw disappear. "If you meant Suicune yes, I saw it." I replied with my own awe shining through. "Yes, Suicune, the legendary Pokemon of water. I have been chasing after Suciune for almost ten years and this is the closest I've ever been. Though I couldn't help but notice that those three including Suicune, all took notice of your presence. I wonder why? Did you know that Ecruteak's legendary Pokemon only show themselves two people when they recognise their talents." I shook my head. "No I didn't know that."
"Oh I apologise I should introduce myself, my name is Eusine and as you know now, I have been searching far and wide to find and catch Suicune. May I ask for your name my rival in my quest?" I smiled introducing myself, "my name is Leo I'm from Viridian City in Kanto." Eusine nodded his head in understanding before he took off in his own words, to carry on finding Suicune before I could. I laughed, his determination was too be admired though, I wondered if Suicune was eager to meet with Eusine too though.
After that I headed back up the ladder and continued exploring the remainder of the Burned Tower and came across a trainer who challenged me to a battle, it was a Firebreather. They sent out a Koffing and I sent out my Slowpoke and had him use Confusion to defeat Koffing. The next Pokemon sent out was a Growlithe and I substituted for my Quagsire and had him use Mud Bomb which defeated Gowlithe too. The final Pokemon sent out was a second Koffing so I brought Slowpoke back out and had him use Confusion once more defeating Koffing once more.
Exploring further another Firebreather challenged me and sent out a Charmeleon I sent out my Croconaw and had him use Water Gun to defeat Charmeleon. At that I finished my exploration of the Burned Tower and decided to leave and get my Pokemon healed at the Pokemon centre and then decide on my next move. I knew I wanted to challenge the gym leader Morty who used Ghost Pokemon but I also felt like giving my Pokemon some extra training to ensure they were ready to battle against him. As such I headed back to the previous route and began training against the Pokemon and trainers who wanted rematches.
First Bayleef, Quilava and Croconaw had been doing very well with their training. In fact Quilava may have been caught relatively recently compared to the other starter Pokemon but they had caught up pretty quickly. They could defeat any Pokemon they battled even at a disadvantage. Furret was a 50'50 on battling in the next gym I say that if only because he was a Normal Type and Normal Types were immune to Ghost Types. However, Ghost Types were also immune to Normal Types meaning both wouldn't be able to affect the other meaning it would be a stalemate. While Furret knew powerful moves, without a Dark Type move it was unlikely I could use him against these Ghost Pokemon.
Noctowl may have also been a Normal Type much like Furret however, Noctowl was also a Flying Type and therefore could use Flying Type moves, it may not be super effective but he could still do damage. However, he also could use Foresight a move which allowed Normal Types to hit Ghost Types. It would be a good move against the finicky Ghost Types that's for sure. Ledian and Ariados were both part Bug Types and Bug Types weren't very good against Ghost Types, they did have some powerful moves and were working exceptionally hard I just wasn't overly certain as to whether they would be able to handle themselves against Ghost Pokemon.
I was actually happily surprised when my Pichu had been doing some training with me against the wild Pokemon and had actually begun evolving into a Pikachu. Since I already owned one I didn't get a new Pokedex entry however, I intended on keeping this Pikachu as a Pikachu until we arrived in the Alola region. As I explained to the new Pikachu, showing him the Alola form Raichu on my Pokedex, compared with the Kantonian form Raichu. My new Pikachu had made the decision on his own to one day evolve into the Alolan Raichu since it looked like a good choice to him.
Togepi had been growing up as well, he was no longer a baby and had been developing into a adult in Pokemon terms. In battles he was improving steadily and we had become excellent friends probably because I had raised him from an egg so our bond would always be stronger than most others. However, I hadn't expected Togepi to already begun evolving but then again as mentioned he had been growing stronger day by day so was it that much of a surprise. "Togetic has been registered to your Pokedex. Togetic the Happiness Pokemon a Fairy and Flying Type. It is said to appear among kindly to scatter a glowing down called joy dust." Togetic was very happy at evolving and thanked me extensively hugging me as tight as he could though it was difficult for him. Evolution had helped him grow much stronger though.
Flaaffy was growing into a very powerful Electric Type and I'm sure that he could handle Ghost Types, the only problem was he had no moves that were super effective against Ghost Types, that was the main problem for me. Sudowoodo, may have been one of my newest Pokemon but he was patient but strong also wise as well. Sudowoodo as mentioned loved to imitate Pokemon and had some powerful moves. Sudowoodo seemed to very much enjoy being around me and the many Pokemon I owned too. Skiploom was a gentle, kind hearted Pokemon that went with the breeze as the saying goes. Mainly because Skiploom relied on the breeze to get place to place. Skiploom was still a powerful ally to have and had been growing stronger day by day just like everyone else.
Aipom was still just as mischievous as usual, he would give my Gengar a run for its money that's for sure, but still when not in the mood to prank people or Pokemon. Aipom worked well with me, we definitely were a excellent team. Sunkern had been growing stronger, but seemed to be struggling against evolved Pokemon so I decided to bring up the possibility of evolving to see whether Sunkern would like to evolve. Sunkern considered the evolution and decided he wanted to evolve. As such I handed Sunkern a Sun Stone and watched as he began evolving. "Sunflora has been registered to your Pokedex. Sunflora the Sun Pokemon a Grass Type. Sunflora coverts solar energy into nutrition. It moves around actively in the daytime when it is warm. It stops moving as soon as the sun goes down for the night." Sunflora cheered at evolving and seemed very happy. I congratulated Sunflora nonetheless and we continued to work together as a great team.
Yanma had been doing well, his speed was his greatest asset, he actually had the ability of Speed Boost which as time went by in a battle, his speed increased exponentially as such. Yanma and I had been working on increasing his speed to the point where at its base speed Yanma was so quick that most Pokemon couldn't keep track of it. Yanma appreciated the dedication I placed in helping him get even faster and stronger. Quagsire was a very patient Pokemon with me and other Pokemon too. He enjoyed taking things slow in comparison to other Pokemon I owned, but I didn't mind that's what made him such a good friend.
Slowpoke, had been much like Quagsire and in comparison to my former Slowpoke, now a Slowbro in Kanto well they were much the same, though they did have their differences too. This Slowbro was quite fond of battling which was a surprise as my other Slowbro seemed to prefer to take things slow. However they both did enjoy battles, so they were very similar. I did hope that while in Johto, I would be able to get Slowpoke to evolve into a Slowking but to do so, I researched knowing I needed a Kings Rock and they could be found in Johto. I'd have to keep searching for it in the meantime.
Unown was a unique Pokemon, being a letter of the alphabet and knowing only one move it probably believed it wasn't as good as the other Pokemon I owned. But I and the other Pokemon still treated Unown with the respect that it deserved. Unown was still strong enough to handle himself in battles as well. Pineco was doing well too, he had been growing stronger day by day and seemed to be enjoying himself. Like when he was caught by me, he still attached himself to me whenever he desired and I found that too be quite cute. Heracross was a powerful Pokemon in his own right, but he was also very kind and very patient. Heracross was definitely similar to my Pinsir and Scyther that were caught in Kanto. Even through different regions Bug Pokemon had many similarities. It was the charms of working with so many Pokemon and discovering so much about them.
Stantler, was also one of my newer Pokemon but he showed himself to be a stern and patient Pokemon, who took pride in his appearance. After brushing him after a battle, I soon learned that he absolutely loved being brushed by me and enjoyed the sensation. Whenever he could, he would practically force me to brush him after a tough battle and I loved caring for each and every Pokemon so I didn't mind the extra work at all. I had also been bringing Chansey occasionally to Johto to have her help me care for the Pokemon, she had offered to help me no matter where I was so I accepted. Chansey's experience at healing had surprised me when she also began evolving. "Blissey has been registered to your Pokedex. Blissey the Happiness Pokemon a Normal Type. It is a Pokemon that delivers happiness. Eating its egg is said to make one kind to everyone." Blissey hadn't changed much and still helped take care of the multitude of Pokemon I owned.
At that I had decided thanks to the training I was now prepared for battling Morty the gym leader, I just needed to know which Pokemon to bring with me against the Ghost Types. I had done my research and knew he owned, Gastly, Haunter and his ace was Gengar. I'd have to do some serious thinking about which Pokemon I would use against those tricky Ghost Types.
