Screaming in pain the only words she heard was, "Push April! Come on, push!" Panting heavily, she keep pushing as her stomach muscles closed in on themselves, forcing the infant inside her womb out. "Come on! One more big push!" the voice yelled commanding her despite her obvious distress.

Crying out in pain, she pushed one last time and heard the little whines of newborn puppies. Looking around she saw only dark figures standing around her as her babies were looked at by a giant dark figure. The figure examined the puppies closely.

"Kill them," the figure said heartlessly, then continued pointing at April as she tried to get up, "hold her down. She knew this was going to happen, these are not mine. Now, kill them both."

"No!" she screamed waking up, tears in her eyes as Leon was knelt by her side.

"Shh, it's okay," he gently pulled her into a hug gently kissing her then licking away her tears. She cried into his chest hugging him as she trembled from the fear in the dream. "It's okay, it was just a bad dream," he comforted her, "it's okay." He kept rubbing her back gently starting to rock her slowly. Starting to calm her down slowly, he got into the bed and let her curl up against him. Lifting his head, he ordered, "Mark, we will start tomorrow, April needs one more night."

"I'm f-fine," she protested, "like you said, it was just a dream. I can take it, don't worry, just.." A finger pressed to her lips stopped her mid sentence.

"We sleep tonight and start in the morning," he said then pressed his lips to her head. "I'll tell you what's going on later tonight. Mark, go tell the others the plan," he lifted his head to Mark standing in the door way. Nodding, he dismissed himself as he left them. Leon laid her down as he joined her. "What was the dream about April?" Looking away she refused to answer him as she trembled slightly as tears built again. Frowning, he licked her eyes with his warm tongue, "It's okay April, you don't have to tell me if you don't want too."

"Okay," she said quietly. She trembled with fear of the future as she laid there. With a sigh, Leon got up out of bed as he strolled over to the window and pulled the curtains together shutting out the world beyond their bedroom. Taking in a deep breath, April let out an low sigh as she lifted her head to meet Leon's gaze. "The dream..." she started trying to control her emotions, "was of me having puppies...But," tears started to form. They burned her eyes and blurred her vision before blinking them away. "But someone ordered for them to be killed."

Leon wrapped his arms around her trying to comfort her as he soothed, "Shh, it's okay baby, it was just a dream." He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb as he held her cheek in his paw. "You need to stop dwelling on the negatives of this situation. If not, it's going to drive ou insane with fear." His gaze turned to the clock that showed 6:00 p.m. Leaning over, he kissed her forehead and whispered, "I'm going to start dinner. You relax or find something to keep yourself occupied so you can stop thinking so negative." With a warming smile, he left the room.

He's right, she thought, I need to think positive or just find something to keep my mind occupied but what? She laid there for a few moments as she pondered what to do to lift her spirits. Nothing sounded good to her, but finally gave up and got out of bed. As she walked, she ran her claws through her mane to straighten it out. The air smelled of tacos and she wagged her tail at the thought of it. She didn't bother stopping but kept her attention focused upon the library of theirs.

Getting some paper and a pencil, she sat down and started to doodle whatever came to mind. She didn't care what it was as long as it was of positive energy. She started outlining her idea of the future. It was her sitting upon a rock as she lay on her side sitting up. She was looking down from the rock watching as her two pups played chase running across a creek splashing water. She placed Leon chasing the pup's with mud all over his fur like a mud monster.

This is gonna look adorable, she thought as she finished the outline. She was so wrapped up in her sketching that she just now noticed the presence of someone behind her. She froze spooked, wondering how long they had been standing there as they breathed hot and heavily above her. She growled a short, low warning for whoever it was to back away or name themselves. Whoever it was growled back just as short but with more of a playful tone, then she yelped as they poked her sides with clawed finger tips.

She turned around to see Leon laughing at her over the yelp. Feeling embarrassed, her face flushed deep red to the point it was visible through her white fur. She crossed her arms pouting as she laid her ears flat to either side of her head showing she was irritated.

"Hmm..." he hummed as he stopped laughing. April tilted her head lost but didn't uncross her arms nor prick her ears. Suddenly, he kissed her gently upon the lips and slowly lifted his paw o her chin holding it still despite her not pulling away.

Damn him, she thought as she gave into his tender kiss moving her ears back and leaned into him. Slowly, he pulled away from her smiling and his faze shifted to what she had been doing just moments before he invaded her space. Without asking permission, he removed the sketch from its resting place and looked upon it more inventively.

"Hey!" she protested as she came to blinking away the comfort of the kiss. "That's mine and it's not finished yet!"

"It looks finished to me," he said as he replaced it to its awaiting spot on the desk. "Besides, dinner's awaiting us on the table. I figure we can make our share then sit outside and watch the sunset."

She smiled as she stood nodding to him like the idea. They rarely ever got time to watch the sunset because they were usually busy with their pack. Sometimes, they did take a one day vacation every year but they never left the pack due to rivals always trying to take their land. Wasn't much but it was at least something for them to spend time together.

He lead the way to the kitchen, his tail gently swaying with each step he took. She loved watching his movements without him noticing. She could watch without making him feel self conscious over his movement. As he stretched to get the plates from the cabinet above, she watched his muscles in his back shifting smoothly without trouble. Turning around looking at her, she smiled softly to him, and he smiled back in return offering her a plate.

"Thanks," she said taking the plate from him and together thy made their tacos and burritos out of the spread upon the table. There was diced tomatoes, shredded lettuces, corn shells, tortillas, chopped onions, and a few bags of shredded cheese. Once getting their plates made, they put the tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and onions in the fridge, the meat in the microwave, and covered the shells and tortillas. As she finished, he was already pouring them a glass each of iced sweet tea. Smiling, they kissed quickly, then picked up their respective plates and took a glass of tea with them upstairs.

"This has been a nice few days despite what all's happened, wouldn't you agree, April?" Leon asked as he opened the door to their room.

"Yes, it has been," she answered smiling. As he brought a small table over to the bed, she opened the curtains and lifted the blinds so they could see the sky. The sun had already started setting coloring the sky with a splash of yellow, orange, and red hues. She turned to see Leon had been watching her and she blushed wondering how long had he been watching.

"Most beautiful site I've ever seen," he complimented smiling as he slowly sat down. Then continuing he added, "Too bad the picture perfect beauty needs to come sit down and eat." He gently patted the seat nest to him inviting her to come sit down beside him. Leaving the window, she sat down and leaned slightly against his left side. Smiling, he wrapped his arm around her as he took a bite out of his taco.

"You are too modest you know," she murred wagging her tail, then continued. "I'm not beautiful in any from, shape, or way." She started to eat on her meat filled, cheese loaded tacos.

"If I'm too modest, then you're too harsh on yourself," he chuckled softly, then continued, "let's just enjoy the meal and view for tonight. We can play our game another day." He smiled kissing her cheek then continued eating. She nodded smiling and went about eating her tacos. Once they was both finished and full, the light had almost disappeared from the sky leaving it dark blue with a small line of purple hues. Her tail gently wagged as they laid together under the covers as his paw ran down her side.

Perfect way to end the day, she thought as she started to become drowsy. My favorite food, favorite drink, a beautiful sunset, and best of all, my handsome mate of all time. Her tail slowed down from a constant gentle wag to a slow swaying as the tiredness took effect. She let out a long yawn as tears formed at the edges of her eyes.

Lifting her paw to wipe away the tears, he asked, "Sounds like someone's getting sleepy, huh?" His gently petting became a gentle pressure along her side and back as he moved his thumb next to her side.

"Hm...?," she murred content as she closed her eyes for a moment forcing herself to reopen her eyes, then continued tiredly. "No, I'm 'ine... I not..." She closed her eyes reluctantly letting the darkness take her over falling into a light sleep unable to reply nor open her eyes again.

Hearing what sounded like a far off laugh she felt a warm paw slide around her waist and gently hug her. Then the warmth increased as a wall pressed against her back softly. Unable to resist anymore she stretched slightly then curled up hugging the arm around her with her own. Zoning out she let the darkness of sleep finish taking her into its awaiting depths. Once again her dreams haunted her as she slept, tears forming to the tragedy.

They're dead, she cried the thought running through her mind repeatedly. They're dead, all of them dead! She ran as fast as she could from the tragedy. He killed all of them, all of the pack without a single glance at them once slain. She could hear him chasing her to kill her as well. She ran through her territory as fast as she could hearing his mocking laughter.

"I shall kill you mangy dogs once and for all reclaiming my title of alpha over these lands," Barry's voice rang out as he sliced everyone's throat. He had turned his attention toward her when she started to flee. She heard him scream something but his voice was nothing more than howls and barks anymore.

Running across a stream, the water splashed against her face bringing her back from what had just happened. Jumping over a fallen log, she noticed it was a fatal mistake midair as the ground disappeared out from under her. Below her was a 20 foot drop to the depths of an unforgiving river. Suddenly, she felt something around her waist gently pull her back to the safety of solid ground. She started to flail to get it off of her when her arms were pinned against her sides as she was held around the neck gently.

"Now is that anyway to act when I save your life?" the voice was familiar but softer in tone. A gentle kiss placed itself among her cheek as the wind shifted and revealed the scent was Leon's. She calmed down and the hold loosened allowing her to shift back to her anthro self but continued holding her. "Why are you crying?" the voice asked then continued, "Also, who was you running from?"

"They're dead," she started to sob, "they're all dead! Barry killed our pack and he's after me!"

A deep growl emanated from the one who was holding her as they spoke, "Of course they're dead. How else am I going to start a new pack with my bitch?" She spun around in the grip to see Barry holding her as he grinned darkly showing his bloodied canines. Before she could run again, he had forced her to the ground as he pinned her, his breath hot and heavy against her tear streaked face. "Go ahead my bitch, cry, howl, scream, no one will come to your rescue," he mocked lowering his snout as his jaws opened slightly once over her breast.

"No one except me!" a deep enraged voice roared as a black blur slammed Barry off of her. It was Leon, the real Leon and not a mistaken scent. Leon was bloody and sweaty, his fur matted in places where it dried and then got re-soaked. He was obviously just in a fight with who, she did not know nor care as long as he was safe and now, here. Barry rolled over and got to his feet before Leon could make a second attack on him.

"Leon!" he growled loudly as he flashed his fangs in an attempt to intimidate. "How did you survive?!? You should be dead!" Barry was losing his calm demeanor. Slowly, he circled Leon trying to find an opening as Leon did the same, making himself into a barrier between April and Barry. Noticing what Leon was doing, April got to her feet and circled following Leon's movements.

Finally, Leon answered, "Easy, I killed off your damned dogs one by one." He grinned slightly as Barry become more enraged. The next few moments was a blur of fur as Leon and Barry attacked eah other. Blood and fur flew as claws and fangs made contact. Only sounds to be heard was yelps, snarls, and barks as they inflicted and recieved pain. Just as fast as it began, it ended and a body fell forward dead. Blood seaped from an open gash across the throat where it had been slashed open by claws.

"I-is he dead?" April asked stammering slightly unable to she who the victor was as she remained still.

"Yes," the winner answered slowly lifting his head as his icy blue eyes pierced through the darkness. Slowly, he approached her as an light from an unknown source shown through the darkness revealing the winner. Leon was alive as Barry laid there dead and motionless. Leon wrapped his arms around her as he embraced her tightly as he said, "He'll harm you no longer." Her dreams continued into a peaceful paradise as she slept through the night.
