As Unnerve and Nocturne drove to Chief Seth's station, something was deeply troubling him in his head, particularly about the new recruit.

"Who could this mysterious recruit even be? Am I just wasting my time? Is he even my son...? No it has to be, it can nobody be but him! I"m certain of it... I just hope Chief Seth joins our cause and actually joins us, this is my only chance to find him..." Nocturne talked to himself as he tried to think of who it could possibly be that nobody they knew so far was able to discern.

Unnerve drove quietly, not knowing if it was indeed Nocturne's son that was the new recruit.

"Do you have any information about Chief Seth? Anything that you could tell me Unnerve?" Nocturne asked him.

"Unlike Sorien, Chief Seth is a bit more seasoned than him. Meaning that the time he spent in the academy could have been far longer than your son. However I don't talk with him to know for certain. From what I could tell over the years I've known him, he likes to please others, trying his best to satisfy everyone and avoid getting them upset. He just wants to be friends, or at least that's what he gives off" Unnerve explained to Nocturne.

Nocturne pondered on it, trying to come up with something that they can exploit to get them on their side, but sadly there was none. If Unnerve's words were true, then Chief Seth would most likely side with the others on opposing them in favor of not displeasing the other chiefs.

"Chief Drei trained Chief Seth himself. All I know is that if you fall out of line, even look at something else while he's talking to you, he'd verbally abuse you in front of everyone you'd be in charge with, no matter how high your rank is. He's a drill sergeant that will yell at you until you beg and grovel for him to let you apologize for whatever you offended him with" Unnerve explained further.

Nocturne took this information in his head, wondering what Chief Drei could have done to the goodra in the first place.

"Do you have any clue what he could have done to him?" Nocturne asked Unnerve.

"I don't know, Chief Seth is a mystery sometimes that it's hard to read what he's thinking" Unnerve shrugged.

"What do you mean by that?" Nocturne asked for more clarification.

"It's nothing, maybe it's just the short time I've spoken to him alone from time to time, I never really got to know him that much. But sometimes it feels like he's putting on an act, a facade that he's trying to hide about himself, and hiding his true thoughts and concerns" Unnerve said, not sure of himself.

"Didn't Sorien say that we should approach Seth easy and slow when talking to him? We should be careful about what we say before he begins to cower and fear us or else he won't listen to what we have to say" Nocturne said as he tried to come up with something that might help them both, taking Sorien's words seriously now that he remembered what he said.

"I'll keep that in mind, but if I try to be too cautious he might catch on to me" Unnerve said as they then stopped in front of the station.

Unnerve opened the door for Nocturne, or Ace as he transformed into a cinderace, giving him a kiss on the cheek before entering the station.

As they walked inside, they could see Chief Seth talking to three other officers before noticing Unnerve and Ace, greeting them happily.

"Ah! Chief Unnerve! So good to see you in my station. And Ace right? It's a surprise to see you here as well, but a pleasant one. Would you like some doughnuts? Don't worry, they're free" Chief Seth greeted and offered to the both of them.

"I'm on a diet, but thanks anyway, doughnuts tend to make me too sugar happy" Ace declined his offer.

"No thanks, although we wanted to talk to you about some important matters. I hope you don't mind" Unnerve said to Seth, pretending to be uninterested.

"Of course! We can have some tea after we smooth the important stuff over in my office where we won't be disturbed. Follow me, I'm sure you'd love to rest your feet" Chief Seth told them as he started to lead them to his office.

Unfortunately for the two however, some officers started to block Chief Seth's way, asking him for something it seemed.

"Chief Seth, can you give me an advanced pay for the next few months? I promise to pay back... If I can that is" One officer said.

"Chief, I'm gonna need two weeks of vacation, I think I deserve it by now" Another officer asked him.

"Can I get a raise? The pay here is not pretty good for my standards... Also I'm gonna go home early since nothing's been happening all day" Another officer boldly asked him.

As Seth addressed his officers, Ace and Unnerve discussed with each other how ridiculous those statements were. Advanced pay for a few months? And what did they mean if they can? Two weeks of vacation? A few days maybe but weeks? Also what standards? He signed up for this didn't he?

"A lot of them are really asking for a lot..." Unnerve commented as he looked at the other officers.

Ace looked at Unnerve before looking past the other officers, he sensed that something was off...

"Sorry Unnerve, but I think I need to use the bathroom real quick" Ace excused himself.

"I don't mind waiting for you then" Chief Seth offered him.

"I'll catch up with you two upstairs, I just need to find a door called 'chief of police' right?" Ace remarked to both Seth and Unnerve.

Seth nodded his head, while Unnerve looked at him, understanding what Ace was trying to do.

"Don't wander around and join us as soon as possible" Unnerve reminded Nocturne, before leaving with Chief Seth in tow.

Ace quickly rushed inside one of the bathroom stalls and transformed into a lucario with a full blown police uniform the same as the other officers in the area, and left the bathroom as he mingled with the other officers who were bugging Chief Seth earlier.

He'll have to make up a name... Officer Luke would do.

"Isn't it weird how you're getting to go home this early?" Luke asked one of the officers.

"Oh Chief Seth? Yeah he's too much of a pushover, besides, this isn't gonna harm me anyway, he's too nice for that. Which means all the more good things to come for us" The officer replied as another officer butted in.

"He's not that tough even if he wanted to be, some dragon am I right? He can be the leader all he wants, but it's us who'll get what they want in the end" Another officer said.

"If you ask me, a lot of rookies want to be in either Unnerve or Ken's station, but the real jackpot is in this station. You get good pay as long as you demand it, and you get an easy life and job here. Chief Seth is basically working for us at this point" The first officer pointed out cockily.

Luke grew a bit concerned for Chief Seth.

"Heh, what a beta... If you'll excuse me, I got some money to extort from him" Luke said before leaving the two to talk to each other.

As Luke walked by some other officers, he heard another conversation that seemed to be talking about Chief Seth and decided to eavesdrop on them.

"So I told him that I would be taking a day off because I was going to spend time with my family, when we're just going to go drinking. What an idiot" The officer said.

"You should tell him you're robbing a bank, and he'll still excuse you" The other officer agreed.

Luke grew even more worried as he realized more officers were taking advantage of him than he thought, but he couldn't understand why.

Entering the bathroom again, Nocturne decided to transform back into a cinderace when he heard two officers talking to each other inside the bathroom as he entered a stall.

"Man it's easy to get what you want from Seth. I think he even got pressured to get some contraband here last time since someone tried hard enough" An officer said.

"You wanna know why he acts like this? I heard through the grapevine that Chief Seth does it because he doesn't want to hurt anybody's feelings and wants to be friends with everyone... How pathetic honestly" The other officer said.

"Now that's just sad... Glad I'm not him" The first officer said before washing their hands.

"No skin off our backs, he must be a loner or something since he doesn't want to lose friends or upset anyone. Spineless I say" The second officer said before they finished up and left the bathroom.

Nocturne left the stall, having transformed into a cinderace as he thought about what he had just learned.

"Chief Seth must have wanted to be friends with everyone, because in his mind he didn't want anyone to become upset or burn any friendships he might potentially have" Ace talked to himself, worried about Chief Seth, but at the same time he now knew what Chief Seth's psyche was now.

Ace left the bathroom and walked upstairs, easily finding Chief Seth's office as he entered.

"So you and Sorien have been talking to each other lately?" Unnerve asked Chief Seth.

"All the time, we're pretty close. I'm kind of proud being his senior after all" Chief Seth said as he poured some tea on a cup.

The two then notice Ace had managed to make his way inside.

"Ah come in Ace! You took longer than we expected, I hope you don't mind if we started talking without you. Was everything alright? Do you feel sick?" Chief Seth asked Ace as he poured a cup for Unnerve.

Unnerve looked at Ace sternly, as if asking him why he was making himself look suspicious already.

"I ate something bad in the morning I think. But don't worry, it's all good now, sorry if I took a while to get here" Ace said in embarrassment as he took a seat next to Unnerve.

"No problem at all! Here, some tea will make you feel better" Chief Seth said as he poured one for Ace as well, which he gratefully took.

Unnerve grunts in disapproval, before sly eyeing Ace, who gave the same gesture.

"So Chief Seth, can you tell us anything about your station?" Ace asked Chief Seth.

"Before that, I have to ask, are you okay since the other day? I mean, Unnerve and Ken looked like they were about to kill each other.

"I'm alright, thank you for the concern" Ace replied.

"He deserved it for all the insults he made and the mockery he made out of me" Unnerve interjected.

Chief Seth frowned at what Unnerve had just said.

"C-Come on, you two are friends. Friends aren't supposed to say things like that about each other. I don't like seeing you or the other chiefs fighting and bickering, I wish I could do something about it" Chief Seth tried to calm Unnerve down.

Sensing some sort of discord in Chief Seth's words, Ace decided to press him further about it.

"What do you mean by that, Chief Seth?" Ace asked him.

Seth hesitated, not wanting to go further and reveal too much.

Ace decided that he would take a gamble, one that would make Seth have no choice but come out of his shell and be forced to fess everything up.

"Seth... I know that you're only doing this because you want to have more friends don't you? That's why you always want everyone to be happy? To have more friends?" Ace asked him.

"W-What do you mean? I-I have plenty of friends! T-Those are ridiculous claims!" Chief Seth said defensively.

"No you don't. Just like what you're doing with us right now, you're just trying to please us as much as you can. I know that Chief Drei did something to you, and that's why you want to have as much friends as possible, even if it seems like they aren't. I even heard of the other officers talking down on you for trying to please them. I know it's hard but you have to be harder than you are right now. You're too soft, you need to become more stern with them" Ace said as he pressed Chief Seth even further.

"W-Well I mean... I-It's not entirely false but I... I... Why are you bullying me like this? L-Look can we have this conversation another time?" Chief Seth said as he rested back against his chair, feeling nervous and shying away.

Ace was about to continue pressing him further until Unnerve rose up and started to yell at him.

"Look you little bitch! Stop trying to cover up for your stupid subordinates and confess everything already! Because if you don't, I'll rip the hearts out of those stupid smug bastards myself!" Unnerve said, almost yelling at Seth as the goodra started cowering away from him, rolling his chair further away from them.

Chief Seth looked like he was on the verge of crying as he tried to calm Unnerve down.

"P-Please don't yell at me Unnerve... I-I don't like it when my f-friends yell at me..." Chief Seth tried to say as he placed his hands on top of his head.

Sensing the urgency of the situation, Ace tried to defuse the aggressiveness that Unnerve was giving to Chief Seth.

"Unnerve stop! This isn't helping!" Ace said as he rushed over to Chief Seth's side and started patting his back to calm him back down as he held his paw.

"I'm sorry about Unneve, he's had a bad morning by an acquaintance of ours ditching on him. He's usually not this aggressive. You know how he is when he has people working under him but not doing their job" Ace jokingly said to Chief Seth, hoping it would help him clam down, while Unnerve grunted at that remark before going back to his seat.

"Sorry, it was an accident" Unnerve said half-heartedly.

Chief Seth slowly recovered from the panic attack and went back to his seat.

"I-It's f-fine... T-Thank you Ace... I-I just don't like those kinds of questions..." Chief Seth as he started to go back to his usual self.

"It's no problem Chief Seth, but if you want us to be friends with each other, you have to share more than you're comfortable with, if you don't mind that is" Ace nodded and tried to go back to convincing him to reveal more things.

"I-I just want everyone to be friends and be happy with e-each other, b-because it's... It's always good to have friends!" Chief Seth said nervously.

"Chief Seth... It's good to have friends, but you do know that not everyone can be your friend... Right? No matter how hard you try, not everyone can like you, no matter how much you want it, it's impossible" Ace asked him cautiously, but Chief Seth shook his head stubbornly.

"N-No, don't you understand? If you try hard enough, e-everyone will respect you!" Chief Seth said in denial.

An idea popped up in Ace's head and he decided to ask him another question.

"Do you know what's going on at your station? Particularly with your whole team?" Ace asked him.

Chief Seth was a bit shocked by the question, but answered it nonetheless.

"O-Of course I do, they respect me!" Chief Seth insisted, which Ace shook his head at.

"There are things that they were saying otherwise" Ace retorted.

"M-My t-team respects me b-because I do favors for them" Chief Seth said, as if he was forcing himself to say it like if he tried hard enough, it would come true.

Ace placed his paw on Chief Seth's desk in response, startling the goodra.

"No! It's not respect! It's like you're trying to buy them out, you're not gonna earn their respect with that" Ace said, trying to open Chief Seth's eyes to the truth.

"I-It doesn't even seem like it's that way... T-That's just how you see it!" Chief Seth continued to deflect.

Ace sighed before leaning even closer to Chief Seth.

"Do you really think that Chief Seth? That you need to do something for them in order for you to be friends? What if the time comes that you can't do what they want? Wouldn't real friends be as they are even when you can't give them what they want? WIth no favors or buying them out?" Ace asked him again.

"I-I-I don't know what you're talking about... T-T-That's just how you v-view it" Chief Seth continued to deny Ace's claims.

Ace saw something in his eyes and decided to take another risk.

"Was there something in your past that had caused you to act this way?" Ace asked him.

Chief Seth gave a very solemn face as he looked at both Unnerve and Ace.

As Ace and Chief Seth exchanged glances with each other, Ace saw a goodra cowering in fear as his horns covered his eyes and shook as the other entity was present. It was a hydreigon that was seemingly yelling at him, and the goodra was too scared to do anything.

Chief Seth took a deep breath and sat down on his chair.

"I don't like telling this part about myself, but since you insist, I will tell you this one time, just so you won't get upset with me" Chief Seth ultimately gave up and decided to tell them the truth.

"I-It's an honor to be your protege Chief Drei! I-I won't let you down!" Officer Seth said excitedly as he and Chief Drei were at the office of the current chief, only a mere few hours from officially announcing Officer Seth as his protege and successor.

"You shouldn't be this excited about this Officer Seth, you don't know what you're getting into. Nothing that you'll expect yet" Chief Drei said apprehensively in response, taking things too seriously.

"W-Why wouldn't I? I'm going to be working with everyone and making many new friends in the process! It's the best thing to happen to me!" Officer Seth said enthusiastically.

Upon hearing this, Chief Drei became more hostile about that statement, and sought to bring down that perspective.

"No Officer Seth, they will NOT be your friends, and they never will be. In fact, you should always, ALWAYS consider them your enemies" Chief Drei opposed Officer Seth.

"W-What do you mean by that? I mean... I do not want to anger anyone, i-if I do that then they'd get angry with me... I-I don't want to do even consider that" Officer Seth said, confused by Chief Drei's logic.

"No! You don't get it! I just told you that you should be considering them as ENEMIES! Enemies who work for you but are not your friends! Let me say it in simpler terms then. Consider this like a business with clients. If you don't please them or get them what they want, they'll abandon you and go elsewhere. Get it through that thick head of yours!" Chief Drei yelled at him.

Officer Seth started to think how lonely of a life that was, and started cowering fearfully away from Chief Drei.

Seeing Seth's reaction, Chief Drei continued yelling and scaring him.

"What the fuck is this? What the fuck is this!? Stop cowering you little pussy! Were you seriously thinking you will be making friends in this position? How pathetic... Stop cowering and stand up bravely you fucking idiot! You call yourself a fucking chief!? Everyone will hate you for it because they want to BE the next chief! Look at yourself in the fucking mirror!" Chief Drei continued to scare him.

"T-Then why did you choose me to be the next chief and not the o-others...?" Officer Seth asked fearfully.

"Oh my Arceus shut up will you!? Why do you keep asking questions!? Just shut up and listen!!!" Chief Drei yelled angrily, tired of all the questions that Officer Seth was asking him.

Chief Drei grabbed him by the neck and pulled him close so he could whisper in his ear.

"You will never have any true friends, you little shit... And when you let your guard down, they'll all come for you. So you have to keep pleasing your enemies, or else they'll easily overthrow you and take what you worked so hard for" Chief Drei said before shoving Officer Seth away.

"Y-Y-Yes Chief Drei.... T-Thank you for opening my eyes" Officer Seth agreed more out of fear than any mutual agreement.

"Good, because I'm going to start your advanced training, starting today" Chief Drei declared before unbuttoning his shirt and pants.

Chief Seth stopped telling his story and started crying, burying his head in his paws.

Understanding what happened next, Unnerve decided it would be best to discontinue his story.

"You don't have to keep going" Unnerve said, understanding the pain.

"That's enough, you don't have to tell us this part if you don't have to" Ace tried to comfort him.

"I know exactly what you're talking about Chief Seth, and I understand you completely" Unnerve gave some assurance.

Chief Seth looked up at Unnerve, wondering if he experienced the same thing.

"Did... Did your mentor also...?" Chief Seth asked Unnerve.

"Chief Kai did a lot of different things to me, especially with the advanced training he gave me. I don't know what Chief Drei did, but I can imagine that it hurt your pride greatly" Unnerve nodded in confirmation.

"A-After... After the training I've received, I never felt so lonely than ever before... I thought I'd make a lot of friends by joining the academy and pursuing a life that seemed interesting to me. I never believed that I'd be chief, but I guess Chief Drei saw something in me... But I never truly made friends in the academy. They all moved on to other important places. Even in my station right now, I honestly feel like no one likes me, I just didn't want to accept that. I still try to please everyone because I don't want to upset them and make their jobs a chore, so that they wouldn't consider leaving and actually be my friend one day" Chief Seth nodded to Unnerve and looked at him again.

"You must have a lot of people working with you, while you're friends at that. Just like Lieutenant Gabu, and Ace right here. Even though you and Ken always get into arguments and fights, you two at least try to talk to each other. Me? I have nobody, except maybe one..." Chief Seth asked Unnerve, sounding almost jealous of Unnerve.

"What about Chief Leo and Sorien? Do you not consider them as your friends?" Ace intervened.

"I don't talk to Leo much outside of the meetings, but I do talk with Sorien from time to time. He's the only one that understands me and talks to me, so I feel the most comfortable with him... But..." Chief Seth admitted to them.

Ace and Unnerve looked at each other.

"But?" Unnerve asked Chief Seth.

"I honestly don't feel like I can talk to Sorien about myself. My true self. I'm scared that it would make him uncomfortable and see me as someone who's pathetic and weak. So I kept it all to myself, even when he asked if there was anything I was uncomfortable about" Chief Seth admitted with a bit of pain in his voice.

"In my line of work, I have met a lot of people. Not everyone wants to be friends with me, and it's hard to please everyone, and I know that there are people that I've upset with my decisions and opinions, but that's alright" Ace tried to take over the conversation, to make Chief Seth see some good in upsetting a few people over your own well-being.

Chief Seth shook his head, cowering once more as his eyes had shown a goodra still cowering in fear.

"I don't want to upset anybody else more than I already have... I-In fact, I'm already doing it right now to you two!" Chief Seth said as he looked at the two.

Ace smiled at Chief Seth and placed an arm on his shoulder.

"I don't like to upset others as well Chief Seth, but sometimes the right thing to do is to make the decision that upsets people the most. And if they really are your friends, wouldn't they understand better than most?" Ace asked him with a gentle smile.

The goodra in Chief Seth's eyes started calming down, with a bit of determination in his eyes, standing up and staring at the shadow of the hydreigon yelling at him, starting to fight and yell back at him.

"Y-You're correct in that matter but-" Chief Seth tried to say but was interrupted by Ace before he could bring himself down again.

"There is no 'but' Chief Seth. Your true friends would stand by you, and support you no matter what you decide, like Chief Sorien would. Don't you consider him your friend? Or did you just lie to him to never reveal this to him?" Ace asked him.

Chief Seth got a bit angry at that question.

"W-Who are you to say that? What do you even know about Chief Sorien huh? You don't even know him one bit... And I... I would never lie to my own friend... I just... I just don't want him to leave me..." Chief Seth answered, on the verge of crying again.

"... Because I met with Sorien, and he told me that he was worried about you, and that you seemed like you were hiding something from him" Ace answered him back.

Chief Seth was surprised by what Ace had just told him.

"H-He's worried about me? W-What's there to even worry about?" Chief Seth asked Ace.

"He told me that you were one of his closest friends, maybe he even considers you his best friend. And you know what? I think he's telling the truth. I know he isn't the type to lie about things, and he asked me to come to you and help you with whatever your problem was. Chief Sorien isn't the type to have any ulterior motives, and he is too timid to want to take advantage of you, and wants to help others. Do you really think that you should be keeping secrets from him? You're making it hard for Sorien if you keep this up, but first Seth, you have to help yourself" Ace lectured Chief Seth.

The fight in Chief Seth's eyes started lighting up, with the goodra fighting back and tipping the odds in his favor against the hydreigon.

"From my eyes, Chief Seth, I don't know why Chief Drei chose you to be his protege, but I can clearly see that you have the potential to be a good leader. You will be making tough decisions that not everyone will be ready to agree or accept, however there will be support from your team, and the other chiefs will back you up if there ever came a time that you will need their support" Ace added, looking at Unnerve, nodding with each other.

"I have learned a lot recently, especially after the raid. After talking to my own team and making several difficult decisions, I had strong support backing me up who understand me. You can rely on me too, even though I'm a bit aggressive and scary, you can count on me to support you" Unnerve said, grunting a bit as he felt corny.

Chief Seth looked shocked, he never expected Unnerve of all the chiefs to give him any support.

"I'm... I'm surprised about this. I never knew someone like you could be this supportive of me" Chief Seth commented.

"Tch... Whatever, I learned a lot from him. Being a leader isn't as easy as I thought it was, but knowing who has my back and who supports me, I can make decisions that can benefit the whole team" Unnerve grumbled as he pointed at Ace.

"Yes,, I can see that you have the capability to be a perfect leader, and you have my support as well Chief Seth. Chief Sorien, Unnerve, and I support your decisions from now on" Ace agreed with Unnerve.

Chief Seth's smiles, the tears from his eyes were now gone and nods his head in agreement with them.

"I... I feel relieved... I never felt this way before, knowing someone will listen to me, and would willingly be my friend and support my decisions..." Chief Seth said, feeling good about himself after confessing something so traumatizing and hard to bear that he had bottled up for so long.

Ace looked at the shadow of the goodra in Chief Seth's eyes, standing proudly as the hydreigon was no longer in sight, conquering his fear and standing up for what he wanted to do for the first time.

"Thank you both for the assistance. If it wasn't for you two, I never would have stood up for myself and tried to do everyone's bidding... Even if I didn't want to. Thank you for saving me from myself. I felt so closed up and lonely, but I now feel determined by those I respect. I respect both you and Sorien, and even Unnerve now!" Chief Seth thanked both Ace and Unnerve as he shook both of their hands.

"The hell... So does that mean you didn't respect me!?" Unnerve asked, a bit ticked off by the joke.

Chief Seth and Ace laughed as Unnerve got angry.

"Relax Unnerve! This is what friends are like, where you can make jokes and banters here and there with each other" Ace laughed with Chief Seth.

"I'll need to call Chief Sorien later and talk to him, but for now, I need to ask you two if I can help you both in any way? You two helped me after all" Chief Seth asked them.

Ace and Unnerve looked at each other before nodding, confusing Seth as he tilted his head similar to what Sorien did.

"Do you consider us as your friend Chief Seth?" Ace asked him.

"Y-You helped me understand what friendship truly is, as well as understanding myself a little better too! So who am I to question it? Of course I consider you as my friend!" Chief Seth exclaimed, confused by the question as he looked at Unnerve.

"You too Unnerve... I never expected it from you but I appreciate it just as much. You, Sorien, and Ace are my most cherished friends as of now, and I wouldn't want to betray any of those that I consider like that" Chief Seth pointed out.

"Heh, thanks. But you better brace yourself from what's about to come" Unnerve smirked at Chief Seth.

"What do you-" Chief was about to react when Ace interrupted him again.

"As a friend, I also harbor a secret, a facade that I am hiding from everyone else" Ace told Chief Seth.

"Ok... I'm ready for whatever that secret is. It won't change my mind about anything I said earlier. I still consider you both and Chief Sorien as my most cherished friends. So go on, tell me this facade or secret that you're going to show me" Chief Seth slowly nodded, trying to understand what Unnerve and Ace were trying to tell him.

Ace smiled as he dropped the illusion, revealing himself to be a zoroark, or more specifically the illusionist as he showed his true identity to Chief Seth, the same one that Unnerve had always claimed to have a vendetta against.

Chief Seth's smile turned into a frown, shaking a bit in fear as he stumbled back against his chair, looking at Unnerve who didn't look the least bit shaken by this.

"W-W-Why aren't you doing anything U-Unnerve!? T-T-This is the same zoroark that you wanted to capture isn't it? D-Do something!" Chief Seth screamed at Unnerve, who still didn't do anything about it.

"At first, I wanted nothing more than to lock up this bastard. But during the police raid, he showed me the truth of my actions, that I was destroying myself over a vendetta I have had against him, a big misunderstanding of his actions...
