Mylechua Darkblade and the rest of the Redwallers have been waiting for hours for the eminent attack by Melenko the Ferret Magician.

Some of those on the ramparts have spotted movement, but nothing more.

"What are you playing, ferret? This isn't like you." Mylechua muttered under his breath.

Skipper stayed down on the grounds with his slingers. He made his way over towards Mylechua and Aurora. "I don't like this, mate. We look like fools. I say we get a small group of our best to slip out and ambush."

The grey otter shook his head, "He'd be expecting something like that. Or maybe he won't..." he looked around and took a head count, "We have roughly four score. I guarantee Melenko has at least twice that. Skipper, go find Crea, tell her to stay with those on the ground. You, me and Aurora are going out. Also get a few good beasts stood at any back entrances."

The three otters crept out the main gate. Mylechua had a feeling Melenko wouldn't be around there.

"And here I thought you were dead. What happened, Mylechua? Did these Redwallers get the best of you?"

The otter thought quickly and gave a wink to Skipper and Aurora. "Now you know me, Melenko. I brought these two with me as a gift to you. You can drag me off, but I'll come back to the water."

The ferret chuckled. "You can fool a lot of beast with your silver tongue, but not me. I see right through your lie. You have changed." He raised his paw. "This is one magic show you won't see, old friend."

"Get down!" Mylechua yelled as Melenko let his paw fall. A volley of arrows and spears flew inches past their ears. "Go! Get outta here."

Scrambling and dodging projectiles, the three made their way to cover.

"So much for you knowing his moves. What do we do now?"

"We get back into Redwall and fire back. Since he's doing the opposite of what he normally would, that means he won't attack right yet."

Once they were in Mylechua started barking orders. "Crea rearrange the troops. I want every bow and sling beast up on the wall. Spears, javelins, whatever else that can be found, down here in the grounds. I meant it when I said he'll get in. Aurora, how good are you with a bow?"

"As good as you."

"Perfect. Now do we have anything that'll make fur grey like mine? I also need vegetable oil"

Melenko had made his plan of attack simple but long and drawn out.

"How many 'disappearing' cloaks do we have, Rotnose?" Melenko addressed his second in command.

"Enough for 'alf of our original crew, sire. Wot's the plan?"

"You'll hear the plan when I decide to tell you, now get to making some camouflage for the rest of you. We're all getting in."

The entire horde, including Melenko, was well hidden beneath the trees. Or so he thought. He could hear the familiar twang of a bow being loosed and turned just in time to see an arrow stick in the tree right where he was standing. He could make out the black cloak and grey fur of Mylechua up on the ramparts. The sun was just starting to peek over the wall.

"Ha! You'll have to do better than that, Darkblade! I'm still coming for you." all of a sudden, more than half of the camp was complaining about being drenched in oil. "Oil? What are you talking about oil for?" he gasped, "Get to the river quick before-" but it was too late.

Mylechua appeared in a tree next to the oil soaked crew out of nowhere with his dagger and a flint.

"YOU! You were up there."

"I've learned a few tricks myself. Fire in the hole." He struck the flint and those that were oiled lit up.

While Melenko was recuperating, Mylechua snuck off and slipped back into Redwall.

Friar Humphrey met him at the gate. "When this is over, you owe me so much work for all that vegetable oil."

Aurora was in the Abby pond scrubbing the grey die out of her otherwise brown fur. Mylechua came over and sat down, keeping ears and eyes open. "That was a nice shot you did, Aurora."

"No it wasn't, I missed. It could've been over then."

"I never intended you to hit him. I wouldn't even have made it. I thank you for doing your best." He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead where the die was gone.

"Mmm, keep that up and we won't make it to our wedding." She said seductively.

"I would love to, but we have a war going on. Now we are about evenly matched."

"Skipper, I want them all back to their original posts. After what I did it won't be long before-"

BOOM!

Aurora stood up out of the water, finished scrubbing. "What in the name of the Dark Forrest Gates was that?"

BOOM!

"When I was traveling with Melenko, we had discovered a place where there was powder that exploded when lit by fire."

BOOM!

"He's using that to get in. Form the ranks! Get clear of that wall! All those who can't fight, get inside!"

BOOM!

With that last blast the wall crumbled like a cookie and Melenko's horde, or what was left of it, poured in the Abby grounds.

"I'm through playing around. Have some fun gents, but leave the Darkblade to me."

Chaos broke out as the horde of weasels, stoats, foxes and other creatures mercilessly attacked the Redwallers. Surprisingly, they held their own enough, though none of them had any real experience. Skipper and two of his crew were fighting a couple of foxes by the pond; Crea alone took on five weasels. All the while Melenko kept his eyes on Mylechua, steadily making his way towards him.

Mylechua and Aurora were together fighting off any beast that'd stay close. Without saying a word, the ferret magician drew a pair of long, curved and jagged swords from his belt. "Oh you don't know how long I've waited for this day, Mylechua."

Melenko swung with the right sword at Mylechua and at Aurora with the left. "What day is that?" Mylechua asked blocking the blow aimed at his throat. The otteress beside him was evenly matched with Martin's sword.

"The day I get to finally kill you, and I take over Redwall. Thanks to you, I get that all in one sweep."

"Over my dead body." Aurora and Mylechua shouted.

"That's the idea."

As one pair of sword would strike the others would counter. Neither side giving an inch. After a while, Aurora started to feel tired. Melenko noticed this and concentrated his attacks on her, but still keeping Mylechua at bay. He swung down low on her sword and knocked it out of her paws. After that he kicked her down, knocking the wind out of her.

"Now it's just you and me, otter. And you're one sword low."

Mylechua dodged a swing and rolled over Martin's sword and picked it up. "You're right about one thing, ferret. It is just you and me." With an ancient silver blade in one paw and his dark grey blade in the other, Mylechua unleashed a fury of attacks on Melenko that almost scarred him, almost.

The ferret did the same trick on Mylechua that he did on the otteress, hoping it would catch him of guard, and it did. This time it was the dark blade that went flying.

Mylechua dashed to grab his most prized possession and threw it at Melenko, but it missed.

"Ha, you'll have to do better than that."

"No need. Aurora, now."

Taken completely by surprise, the ferret magician turned to face the otteress in armor for her to run the dark blade right through his heart.

"Burn in Hell you bastard." She said twisting the sword and finally ripping it clean out.

As Melenko the Ferret Magician drew his last breath, he saw what looked like the ghost of Martin the Warrior standing above him along with the two otters.
