Chapter 2: Knanan
Imported from SF2 with no description.
It was the first day of Tsu'mara's shore leave. The large amber furred Trianii wandered in the streets of Knanan for she was already lost. One of her fellow Trianii Ranger who was supposed to help guide her through the city, got sick. It is a modest city with about twenty-five thousand residents. A city that Tsu'mara has not been in before. The bustling streets overwhelmed most of her senses.
Tsu'mara is a large woman for Trianii standards. Due to her sheer size (slightly more than three meters tall), she towers above most of the population. She was called “The Giant" by most Trianii citizens. To her dismay, her size has limited her capacity as a Trianii Ranger. She cannot fit into a cockpit of a Kiree starfighter. Her Sinth (captain) has regulated her on the RX4 Patrol ships as part of the Marine boarding party.
The city is lively due to its annual harvest festival. Farmers and hunters from the surrounding region are celebrating its bountiful yield. The festival is scheduled to for tomorrow night, so the citizens are preparing for the occasion. Booths and stalls were set up in the center of the city. Different aromas of food assaulted Tsu'mara's nose. Her stomach, in response to her nose, growled at her. Out of the corner of her eye is a stand.
The stand itself is simple. White curtains cover the opening with a black furred Trianii holding a rather large salt shaker. She can hear the patrons inside having a good time. She pulls aside one of the curtains, ducks to avoid hitting the ceiling and goes inside. Inside the establishment she saw six seats, four of which is occupied, at a bar that covers the entire opening. Two chiefs are working hard in the kitchen to get orders together. Tsu'mara takes one of the two remaining seats.
One of them, a young human female with a modest bust, approached Tsu'mara. “Hello and welcome to The Salty Panther my name is Kya and may I take your order?"
Tsu'mara looks at the strange menu. She notices some classical Trianii cuisine in the menu along with items she never heard of before. Feeling curious and brave she said, “I would like to try the breakfast special if it is safe for Trianii consumption."
“All of our menu items are safe for consumption to both human and Trianii," said a black furred pantheress, “Name is Suraque. I'm the owner and head chef of this establishment. Are you still interested in our breakfast special?"
“The name is Tsu'mara. Yes, I am interested in this dish," she said.
“Kya one breakfast special," Suraque bellowed over the noise of the kitchen. “Are you interested in any drinks today?"
“Just water please."
Tsu'mara watched the two chefs cook in the kitchen. In a short amount of time, she noticed that there were cold looks directed at the human woman but the woman didn't care. She just kept on cooking. It was clear to Tsu'mara that the humans have a hard time living in Knanan. This was due to the fact that a human led organization, the Corporate Sector Authority, now borders Trianii space. While it is a far cry from pirates that prey on Trianii commercial shipping, they were new neighbors and most Trianii are very wary at best and intolerable at worst.
A spherical object that was beeping rolled under the curtain. With uncanny reflexes, Tsu'mara flicked the grenade like object out of the restaurant. A muffled explosion is felt throughout the stand and a putrid smell emanates from outside along with a slew of curses from someone hit by the stink bomb.
“Thank you for taking care of that for us," Kya said as she places Tsu'mara's food on the bar, “Here is your breakfast special. It is on the house."
“Keep it warm for me, I got to investigate this. I will be right back," Tsu'mara said as she exited the establishment.
It was not hard for Tsu'mara to track the potential culprit. The stench actually leads into an alleyway right next to The Salty Panther. With a stun truncheon in hand, she enters the alleyway.
The alleyway is an average alleyway. Trash cans and bins line the walls waiting for the garbage collector to come by. She hears someone is retching into a trash bin. Walking cautiously, Tsu'mara approached the induvial.
She could not identify the individual due to the brown cloak that is adoring him and that his head is currently in a previously empty trash can. The person is currently dry heaving into the can. The grey furred digitigrade feet indicated that this person is a Trianii. The clothing and fur are covered in a sticky grime. The source of the stench is radiating from him.
Against her better judgement, she places a paw on the person's shoulder. Her other paw still on the stun truncheon. “Hey are you ok?" she asked. The stench is powerful. It is taking Tsu'mara a great deal of fortitude to not gag at the putrid smell. Is he the one who threw the stink bomb at the restaurant.
The person shook his head. The hood of the cloak is covering the persons face. A weak masculine voice emanated from the hood. “Not really, got hit with a stink bomb… was going to… eat at The Salty Panther…"
“Come let's get you cleaned up. Then I will take you to the hospital," Tsu'mara said. She puts down her duffle bag and digs out a few towels. A water collection barrel is nearby and she soaks the towel with the rain water.
“The hospital would… not… be necessary…," said the cloaked figure.
Tsu'mara thought that is peculiar. Usually if one is vomiting like this person, they would be severely dehydrated and needed to go to the doctor at least. For someone to decline the service is more likely afraid of the hospital keeping a record of him. She grips the truncheon tighter.
“Now I need you to turn around and strip off all the clothes. They are beyond saving now. Don't worry I have a spare set for you," she demanded and reassured the stranger. If someone was going into custody, it is her responsibility to keep her potential subject out of harms way.
“You know… when you ask… someone to strip… at least… take him out… for dinner first," stranger said in an attempt of humor as he reluctantly discarded his cloak.
Tsu'mara's eyes widen as the figure discarded his cloak.
