"Err... Master, I wanted to talk about the letter you have sent me about a temporary partner for my mission?"

We've been commissioned to assassinate a leader of a criminal group that has been hindering the trade of gunpowder from the east to the west, because as we are basically in the center of the world, trade routes run through our continent which are easily intercepted by bandits or even pirates on the sea."

After Lin's master explained his mission for today, he brought him to the assassin guild's lobby, where his temporary partner was eating a very early dinner.

"A cat beast? Hmm... I guess cats like you are great as assassins, since they're very agile and quiet."

"Go talk to her then. You should be there at around 1 AM, when most of the guards are asleep."

"Woah, you aren't even going to tell me her name or what she's like?"

"Right! Her name is May and as you can see, she's quite pretty with orange hair and mocha brown fur. She's mute, so you're gonna have to talk with gestures or pass around a piece of paper."

"How are we supposed to pair well together if she can't even communicate vocally?!"

"She's a special ninja. You'll see why when you get to know her. Now, go get along with your partner for today."

And so, after Lin's master gave him May's brief introduction, Lin built up the courage to approach his new partner to ask more about themselves. Since Lin was an assassin, he had a very hard time looking for a girlfriend as he is obviously a knife for hire, which wouldn't be a great job for anyone's husband.

Lin was 16 when he became an assassin to feed his family who he still supports to this day now that he is 20 with him telling his family that he was actually an adventurer and not a cold blooded killer. Lin was just an above average guy with simple shadow and proficiency with concealed claws as his weapon. He did think about leaving the assassin job to become a real adventurer, but when he caught a glimpse of the kind of monsters he would need to fight, he opted to continue simple murder for his source of income.

And just like every killer, Lin had been desensitized from murder, but that didn't mean he couldn't show compassion to anyone as he still very much cared for his family and was looking to get laid. So as long as there was money on the table for him and his family, Lin would kill anyone. The two's conversation was quite straightforward, but maybe because May couldn't talk and Lin was too timid to talk further with this foreign warrior. It was still quite early in the day, so the two made their long journey to the port of the gunpowder smuggling criminals. So as they walked, Lin thought about making some small talk with May, only to remember it would be quite hard to do so as they traveled.

"Hey, do you-"

But as soon as May heard Lin talk, she immediately turned around with a curious expression.

"Do you want to try and talk for a while? We still have a lot of time before we have the perfect time to strike."

Even though it would be hard to talk with May as they walked under the setting sky, Lin still tried to do so as he really wanted to know this cat ninja even better. So as they traveled, Lin passed around a paper to May, with her passing it back without ever turning back.

"Are you an assassin too?

"Our smoke bombs as well as newly invented traps made of explosives and nails. Magic can do the same, but they expire when they run out of energy."

"Do you not use guns?"

"I hope you know that it's very loud, so we stick to bows and blowguns."

Talking to an overseas warrior really brought a fresh wave of excitement to Lin, as the only foreigners he had met were traveling merchants who knew little to nothing about fighting, which really didn't catch the interest of the young assassin. So Lin continued to converse with May as they made their way to the port, with them already halfway there since the two decided to pick up the pace to have an early preparation.

"What's your favorite food?"

"Have you heard of sushi? It's raw fish treated with freezing cold, which is then wrapped up with rice along with fruits and vegetables before being wrapped up in seaweed."

"Seaweed? Isn't that inedible?"

"We've found a way to dry it for it to become edible."

Lin didn't think that May was actually a bit sociable seeing that she was mute, so he tried to flirt with her as he was shamelessly desperate to get a girlfriend, even if she was not of the same race.

"After this, do you want to go out some time before you return to your land?"

The base was situated in one of the tallest mountains in the world, which was actually a volcano.
