Vermintide: The Duo
Daven and Skiteek are on their next mission.
Skiteek and I press ourselves into the shadows of the alleyway, staying low as a battalion of Stormvermin that march past us, chanting in unison. Wind’s been still lately, suitable for masking our scent, but Skiteek can’t sniff out the enemy from afar. We’ve been having a lot of close calls, but that’s not unusual in this line of work.
“We set trap?” Skiteek suggests, eyes gleaming with mischief. “Lure in and boom-boom ’em to oblivion!”
“Not after the last time,” I replied firmly.
Having Skiteek as my partner has been quite an adventure. Since I knew we’d be facing dangerous situations, I had to be aware of his potential strengths and weaknesses. His limitations were clear: he lacked the physical ability to wield anything other than a small dwarven crossbow. But during one perilous moment, I entrusted Skiteek with a bomb to handle flanking enemies.
To my surprise, he had a knack for fire and explosives. He not only successfully blew up a massive oncoming hoard with a firebomb I provided, but he also targeted a few powder kegs to amplify the explosion even further. After that, Skiteek began experimenting with various found materials, crafting bombs and dubious enhancement potions. He seemed to relish in the destruction and burning of corpses, delighting in the screams of his kind as they tried to extinguish the flames he ignited.
I’m unsure if this results from his mistreatment by his people or just a new aspect of his personality. Regardless, the explosion he caused was so massive that it destroyed a nearby bridge, and our troops had to be redirected. Although I claimed that the Skaven were responsible for the destruction, Skiteek still needs to exercise caution in the future.
“I’ve learned my lesson,” Skiteek says, holding up his paw. “Promise-swear not to blow up man-thing road-bridge.”
“We can’t waste your bombs,” I reply. “If something bigger arrives, we’ll need them. Don’t worry; we’ll find another way.”
Skiteek sighs but accepts my decision. I give him a quick pat on the head, and his spirits lift. In the months since he joined me, I’ve also noticed a change in myself. I used to go through the motions, killing because it was my job. But having Skiteek here has made me feel more alive. Perhaps it’s because I finally have something to fight for.
Death could be just a few feet away, but in this moment, I’m grateful to have Skiteek by my side. I peek out from the alley to see if the patrol has passed, but I quickly duck back in and grab Skiteek’s paw, pulling him along with me as we run.
“We been found?” He whispers.
“Worse. Gutter runner.”
We turn another corner and press ourselves against the wall, hiding in the shadows. I heard a soft landing sound where we stood, followed by a faint sniffing noise. The creature mutters in queekish, but I can’t understand what it’s saying. Soon after, it takes off. I wait a moment before looking at Skit.
As I begin to say, “Coast is cle-” a blur rushes towards me, and I’m suddenly slammed to the ground, feeling a searing pain in my chest and abdomen. The gutter runner pinned me so that I couldn’t reach my backup dagger. As I struggle, the rat suddenly slumps over to the side, and I catch the glint of a crossbow bolt lodged halfway through its skull.
Despite the punch daggers still buried in my flesh, I push the rat off and retrieve a healing potion, but before I can use it, Skiteek rushes to my side, concern etched on his face.
“Daven, w-what we do?”
The pain is excruciating, but I keep myself from screaming and alerting any nearby patrols.
“Listen carefully, Skit,” I say through gritted teeth, pointing to the dagger in my stomach. “On three, I want you to pull it out with all your strength, ok?”
“But... but won’t that make worse?” Skiteek asks, his tail flicking anxiously behind him.
“I have a potion, but it won’t work if I’m still impaled,” I explain. “You ready?” With one hand holding the potion and the other ready to tear out the one in my chest, he hesitantly grasps the last dagger. “Alright, quick and in one fluid motion. On three. One, two, three!”
We both yank the daggers out, and I feel my insides being sliced apart as the pain causes white spots in my vision. I quickly down the potion, feeling the pain dull as the bleeding slows. I’m so out of it that I didn’t notice the rain until it was pouring.
“Sky water will wash away your scent,” Skiteek says. “We hide so you recover.”
With a nod, I struggle to stand on my feet. The healing potion will work, but mending these wounds will take time. Skiteek does his best to support me as we head to a nearby windowless building and enter it. Perfect. I limp to a chair and collapse onto it while Skit barricades the door. Once finished, he pulls out a vial and pours a pungent liquid onto the floor.
“What is that?” I ask.
“Smell to cover tracks. Most Skaven will ignore. Flammable too, burn-burn if try come-in”
“Check upstairs and make sure we can escape if necessary. I don’t want to burn to death here.”
He nods and scurries up to search the place. I take deep breaths and let the potion numb more of the pain. When Skit returns, we’ll move upstairs. Even if there’s no exit, we’ll be safer and can create one if needed.
“All clear, roof hatch, no windows.”
I didn’t even realize I’d passed out until I looked at Skiteek. “Good.” I force myself up as Skit rushes to my side to support me. “Let’s head up.”
“Big bed, rest safely.” He informs me.
Once we reach the room, I’m relieved to see a comfortable bed with only a few bloodstains. It reminds me of when Skit and I first met. I carefully make my way to the bed and lie down. Any movement will only prolong the healing process. So unless it’s an emergency, I’ll be bedridden for a day.
“What terrible timing to get injured,” I sigh. “The only saving grace is that we’re not further into town...Still, this is dangerous.”
“Worry not, Daven. I protect you. Rest easy.”
I smile at my companion before motioning for him to come closer. When he does, I pull him in and kiss him on the nose.
“I’m counting on you.”
His excitement is palpable, and I can see some blushing on the few bald spots around his face.
“I keep place safe. Trick-traps set, no worry. Boom ready, just in case.”
While unnerving to hear, I know he’ll only use his explosives when required.
“If anything happens, wake me up.” I close my eyes and allow myself to drift off to sleep.
Skiteek paused for a moment, casting a glance at Daven before heading towards the rooftop hatch. As he pushed the heavy lid open, the sound of rain hitting the roof grew louder, but Skiteek paid it little mind. He peered out, scanning the surrounding rooftops for any sign of Skaven guards, but the coast seemed clear to his relief. Satisfied that it was safe, he closed the hatch and descended to the first floor, searching for supplies.
“He’ll be hungry when he wakes up,” he mutters in Queekish. “I haven’t made human food before, but how different can it be?”
Skiteek scurries through the abandoned building, searching for anything edible. He enters the kitchen and spots a storage barrel. He popped it open with nimble paws and found dried meats and sealed glass jars. Curious, he picked up a jar and saw a black gelatinous fluid inside.
“What warpstone magic is this?” he asks, gnawing on the lid but noticing a latch on the side.
As Skiteek popped open the lid of the container, a tantalizing aroma filled the air, catching him off guard. He had never smelled anything like it before. The scent was foreign, unlike the food his Skaven tribe usually prepared. Curiosity got the better of him, and he flicked his tongue inside, surprised by the explosion of flavors that greeted him. The taste was thick and tingly, unlike anything he had ever tasted.
He struggled to find the right words to describe it but knew he had stumbled upon something special. As he savored the taste, he couldn’t help but think of Daven. Skiteek knew his human mate would appreciate the delicious treat as much as he did. He made a mental note to share it with him later.
Putting the jar aside, Skiteek pulls out some dried meat and takes a few bites, feeling his stomach grumble in satisfaction. Strangely, he and Daven have been moving from one fight to another and haven’t had the time to eat properly, but it’s only now that Skiteek has noticed his hunger. Perhaps it’s the constant fighting or because he’s put his trust in Daven.
Since meeting him, Skiteek has been exposed to a side of humans he wasn’t aware of before. Daven has shown genuine concern for Skiteek’s well-being, teaching him how to properly use and maintain his crossbow to keep him safe and how to mix chemicals to create weapons and potions. Skiteek is touched by this unexpected kindness and feels an unfamiliar emotion when he’s with Daven. He’s unsure what it is but knows he doesn’t want it to go away.
An urge to be with him forever. It doesn’t even have anything to do with mating! Of course, Skiteek thoroughly enjoys their mating. It’s way better than any Skaven he’s had and addicting in many ways. However, even during those times, Daven is gentle, and that urge fills Skiteek more than ever.
Skiteek can feel the heat rising to his cheeks as he sets the food rations on the table. He turns to his side, realizing that Daven is not there. Skiteek’s heart sinks as he remembers that Daven is resting after being wounded only moments ago. The memory of that Gutter Runner pinning Daven down sends a shiver down Skiteek’s spine. He had never felt so terrified before, and his instincts had taken over as he fired that bolt without a second thought.
Skiteek and Daven had been in tough fights before, but Daven had always held his own. Seeing him in such a vulnerable state filled Skiteek with fear, but not for himself. He knows that Daven is sworn to his people and cannot leave, but Skiteek can’t help but wonder if they could run away together to some far-off place and not have to worry about these constant battles.
Skiteek shook his head, dismissing the thought as foolish. He knew their reality was one of constant danger and battle, and there was no time for such fantasies. He had to focus on becoming stronger and better equipped to protect Daven and himself in the chaotic world they lived in.
With a newfound sense of purpose, Skiteek pushed the food aside and rummaged through his bag, searching for something specific. He knew there were ways to improve himself and become even more powerful and skilled than he already was. As a true Skaven, he was always tinkering and inventing, and he had plenty of ideas and plans brewing in his mind.
Skiteek was determined to be the best he could be for the sake of himself and his human mate. Together, they would survive and thrive in this brutal world, even if it meant facing unimaginable challenges and enemies along the way. For Skiteek, there was nothing more important than the bond he shared with Daven, and he would do anything to protect it.
As my eyes slowly open, I am greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling. I can hear a faint noise from below, and I know exactly what it is. I chuckle to myself, knowing that Skiteek is tinkering with something again. He’s a clever guy and likely setting some elaborate trap. His constant vigilance and attention to detail put me at ease, and I’m grateful to have him as my companion.
I wince as I glance down at the numerous blade wounds in my chest caused by those damn punch daggers. I’m lucky they weren’t coated with poison, or I’d be in an even worse state now. My throat feels parched, and I reach for my water skin, only to find it empty. I curse under my breath; those potions always do this.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening catches my attention, and I gaze towards it. Skiteek walks in, a water skin in his paws, and greets me with his usual chirpy tone.
“Thirsty, yes-yes?”
“Perfect timing,” I replied as I took the water skin from Skiteek’s clawed paw.
“Man-thing have sky-water drain. Very handy. Will fill later,” Skiteek chattered.
I took a long, refreshing drink and let out a contented sigh. “Thank you, Skit,” I said gratefully. “What have you been up to?”
He crawls onto the bed beside me, his tail twitching in excitement, and pulls out jars and meat.
“Found these in man-thing barrel. What is this?” Skiteek holds out a jar, looking at it curiously.
I sit up slowly, wincing as the pain from my wounds radiates through my chest. Taking the jar from him, I can immediately tell that it’s jam. I pop the lid and inhale its sweet fragrance before responding.
“Strawberry jam,” I say, handing it back to him.
Skiteek looks confused, muttering queekish under his breath. “Straw-jam? How straw this, um...” He seems lost for words. “Mouth, tingly.”
“Sweet?” I suggest, and he nods eagerly. “Strawberry is a fruit.” His head tilts quizzically. “Do Skaven not have fruit?”
“What is fruit?” Skiteek asks, looking genuinely curious.
“It’s like a small sweet plant.”
“Never had fruit before. This a fruit?” he asks, pointing at the jar.
I shake my head. “It’s called jam. We turn the fruit into this thick liquid to store it longer.”
“I like, sweet is good,” Skiteek declares, flicking his tongue in a few times to taste the jam before offering the jar to me. “Hungry? We not eat in long while. Good for heal-strength.”
Well, it’s certainly been some time since I’ve had jam. Other than the salted meat rations and whatever we scavenge through these burned-out cities, which usually amounts to moldy cheese or stale bread, this is a luxury. I stick a finger in and pull it out before getting a taste. Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve had this.
I look over to see Skiteek dipping dried meat into the jam before eating it. I expected him to spit it out, but he chews while his little eyes shimmer in delight. I suppose to a Skaven who’s never had anything sweet; jam is a heavenly experience. I reach over and pet him as he blushes heavily.
“Plenty to eat-eat. No need to hold back.” He offers some meat.
I grit my teeth slightly as the dagger wounds make themselves known.
“A-As much as I’d like to, I think I want more rest for now.”
Skiteek looks a little sad but soon puts on a brave face.
“Rest, I continue search.”
“You need rest too, Skit. Come back when you’re tired. We’ll be fine so long as the rain holds out.”
He nods before leaving the room back downstairs. I’ll get some rest and then force him to bed. He can’t run himself ragged because that will worsen this situation if something happens. For now, at least, I’ll get some rest.
I wake up abruptly to the sound of a door being kicked in and the chaotic shouts of Queekish. Instantly, my instincts kick in, and I prepare myself for battle, but I feel something pinning me down in the room’s darkness.
“Shh... I move body down alley, they checking those nest-homes.” Skiteek whispers.
Despite the danger, his presence calms me. I steady my breaths, listening to the chaos outside. Thankfully, Skits was thinking about the Gutter Runner body we had disposed of earlier because it slipped my mind. A loud thud echoes down the alleyway, followed by heavy footsteps.
“What are you vermin chittering about?” A deep, menacing voice calls out. It was a voice that sent shivers down my spine, the voice of a Chaos Warrior.
“We find fresh kill.” A Skaven answers. “No smell or sign of humans.”
I can hear the Skaven chattering among themselves, their high-pitched voices full of fear and anxiety.
“Hmph. Probably was one of your own.” The Warrior states. “We don’t have time to waste. Get back to patrol.”
“But what if human waiting to ambush?”
“A lone human?” He chuckles. “Let them; it would prove to be entertaining.”
I sigh in relief as the heavy thuds echo away alongside the smaller splish splash of what I assume is the Skaven. Skiteek holds me tight as he whispers in my ear.
“How are wounds?” He asks.
I move a bit, and while it still hurts, the pain is more tolerable than earlier.
“Better, but anything crazy, and I’m sure they’ll open up again.”
I flinch as I feel Skiteek press his lips against mine, his whiskers tickling my face, but I return his kiss.
“Rest. I protect you, no matter what.” He states with finality.
As I feel him moving to leave, I grab where I think his arm is and drag him back.
“There’s no safer time than now for us to rest. They checked the area.”
“What if they come back?”
“You’ve set traps, right?”
“...Yes-yes.”
“I know you’re on edge, and so am I, but we must be at our best. Ok?”
“Ok.”
I close my eyes, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle over me. Skiteek’s body is warm and comforting, and I know we’ll be safe through the night.
A loud crack of thunder rumbles through the shelter we’re hunkered down in, jarring me awake while the rain hammers relentlessly outside. I glance at Skiteek, half surprised when another flash of lightning sneaks through the gaps in the wood, casting a fleeting, eerie light across the room. He must be dead tired to sleep through this racket. I stroke his fur, taking in his calm features in the brief illumination before the room plunges back into darkness. Never would I have guessed that I’d end up teaming up with a Skaven, much less falling head over heels for one.
I can’t help but chuckle quietly to myself. Here we are, smack dab in the middle of the end times, brought on by the Skaven no less, but it doesn’t change how I feel about Skiteek. Day in, day out, he’s always looking out for me. Making sure I’ve got enough to eat, potions to keep me going. But lately, I can’t shake this feeling that I’ve been letting him down.
The run-in with the Gutter Runner is still fresh in my mind, just like the wounds it left behind. I should’ve known it had picked up my scent. Those things are top-tier assassins. I messed up and put Skit in the line of fire. He wouldn’t have stood a chance if that Gutter Runner had got its claws on him. The thought makes me grind my teeth. I need to become better!
It’s just Skit and me out here, and I can’t go back to flying solo. And there’s no way I’m letting my fellow humans hunt down Skit if something happens to me. I shake off these unsettling thoughts; there’s not much I can do while I’m still healing. One thing’s for sure, I’ve got to stay sharper. Being with Skiteek is a double-edged sword. His comforting presence sometimes lulls me into forgetting the danger lurking around the corner.
A long sigh leaves me as I hear his soft breaths as he rests. He’s a great companion, always helping me in ways he may not even realize. Despite the ache of the dagger wounds, I feel the need to give him something in return, something a bit more personal. Skiteek is unapologetically a bottom, through and through. There’s no doubt in my mind about that.
However, I’ve grown curious. While I’d unlikely be able to receive, there was one aspect that I felt I was up to. Though, I have been reluctant, mainly due to having never done it before. But, considering where we are, there’s no better time than now to try. With my mind set, I gingerly move down in the darkness while Skits rests.
Using my hands to navigate, I feel his sheath and balls. Grasping lightly, I stroke him gently to coax him out a bit. With each stroke, I sense his cock grow, and before I know it, I feel something wet touch my nose. His scent isn’t as off-putting as I thought it’d be. Far more powerful and different than what his fur smells like.
I put that aside as I open my mouth and slide his cock inside. The taste is what hits me next. Again, not as bad as I thought it’d be. While I’d categorize it as tasting like cock, it oddly had a subtle sweetness to it... Or perhaps I was so horny that my mind played tricks on me.
Either way, I take it as a boon and lower myself as far as I can go and easily rest my lips on his sheath. Skits isn’t a big guy, but I’m surprised I could take his entire length on my first try. I lift my head before lowering it again, doing as I’d seen Skits do on many occasions. I could feel his body twitch as he continued to dream, but I heard him wake up on my third dip.
“What is... oooh.” The covers lift, and all I can see is the glint of his eyes in the darkness. “D-Daven, why you, mm, doing this?” He tries to speak between moans.
When I lift off him, I continue gentle strokes. “I got curious, is all. Do you not like it?”
“It different than what I’m used to.”
“Should I stop?”
“No stop but... you’re hurt, yes?”
“I’m being careful. Honestly, this is helping with the pain.”
I’m about to go back, but I feel him stop me.
“If help with pain, why not suck together?”
That’s an idea that I’m all for. “I’ll get comfortable.”
I settle on my back where I was resting before as I feel Skiteek settle over me in the darkness. A lightning strike gives me a clear view of his ass as his cock hovers over my face. Not a bad view.
“Ready?” He asks, but I don’t answer as I lean up and take his cock into my mouth. “E-Eager.”
He causes my breath to hitch as he takes my cock to his throat. While my motions are more amateur, I try to navigate the best way to please Skiteek. He’s a seasoned master. At this moment, I try to keep myself from being lost in pleasure and instead use him as a guide as I try to mimic his movement.
Sucking, twirling my tongue, it’s such an information and pleasure overload that I’m already getting close, and Skiteek knows that well as he picks up the pace. I once again try to match him, but before long, I’m already blowing my load into his veteran difficulty throat, but soon I taste a rush of fluid in my mouth as well.
I try to swallow, but the taste is so strange and different from anything I’ve ever known that I instinctively have to pull away and cough it all up. I feel Skits turn around so we’re face to face as he leans in and licks whatever little cum was left on my cheek.
I can hear him giggle. “It’s an acquired taste.”
“H-How was it?” I say, catching my breath.
“Excellent, Daven. Thank you. But if being honest, I like full body experience most.”
I asked Skiteek once what an orgasm was like for him, and he just explained how it was full body instead of just being related to his dick. I’m glad I was able to make him feel good at all.
“Good... We ought to get back to sleep. Tomorrow, I should be all patched up and ready to move on with our mission.”
He leans in again, pulling me into a kiss, one I happily return. As he breaks away, despite the darkness cloaking us, I catch the faint sparkle of his eyes shifting upward, a silent cue of a smile playing on his lips.
“What is this feeling that gnaws at my insides? Like the staw-jam, it sweet but so much more. When you away, it turns sharp-bitter and hurt. But I never want it to go; I desire to be here until the Great Horned Rat snatches me. Tell me, what sound-word do I feel that no ratkin has felt before?”
My heart skips a beat... Well, it’s not like he’s alone in that feeling.
“You love me,” I answer, my words laced with a warm smile.
“Love?” He muses, whiskers twitching in thought. “If what I feel is this ‘love,’ I want it not to flee-flee.” He lies his head on my chest, all tuckered out. “Tired.”
“Goodnight, Skiteek.”
“Sleep-well, Daven. I love you.” He chitters to himself, tail twitching with delight. “Yes-yes, that word feels right-right.”
“I love you too,” I reply, my fingers tracing soothing circles on his back.
As we both drift off into the realm of dreams, I’m left pondering over the unexpected turns our relationship might take. But for now, we have a mission to complete. We’re a duo, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
